Itinerary
Kick off Lisbon's greatest hits outside the church of São Roque in Bairro Alto, where your guide lays out the plan for the two hours ahead, before heading downhill together into the neighborhood's back streets.
Duck into a family-run tasca, a Portuguese tavern, at the edge of the neighborhood for grilled peri-peri chicken served with rice, fries, and salad, paired with a glass of Portuguese wine or beer while your guide explains what makes this fiery classic so beloved.
Pause at Praça Luís de Camões, the square where Bairro Alto's late-night bar crowd spills into Chiado's polished streets, and feel the city shift gears from lived-in nightlife to elegant downtown before your next stop.
Stop for two of the city's favorite savory bites, a crisp cod fish cake and a beef croquette, both classics of the Portuguese tasca counter, best eaten standing outside with the neighborhood buzzing around you.
Cross into Rossio Square, admiring its wave-patterned pavement, twin baroque fountains, and grand facades from the open plaza as your guide points out landmarks worth a longer look on your own after the tour wraps up.
Enjoy a bifana sandwich at a place that's served the same recipe since 1932, paired with a beer, wine, or soda of your choice, a century-old ritual you're now part of.
Wrap up the greatest-hits list at a counter famous for its custard tart, warm from the oven with a shatter-crisp caramelized top and a soft center, the sweet finish to two hours that never once felt rushed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our walking food tour with Amanda. She was very friendly, easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about Lisbon and the food scene. She explained the traditional foods, the neighborhoods we walked through and their impact on the food. We highly recommend giving this tour a try if you want to experience the foods here like a local.

The shorter 2 hour version was perfect with teens. We all appreciated David's knowledge and sense of humor. All the food was delicious. A fabulous, convivial way to lunch!
We had a fantastic food tour of Lisbon! It was really informative, with a great mix of delicious food and interesting insights into the local cuisine and culture. We visited some excellent places that we probably wouldn’t have discovered or tried on our own, which made the experience even better. A brilliant way to explore Lisbon through its food. David was absolute. Highly recommend!
It was banging. David was a clm geez and I highly recommend him. He was helpful and a solid boy
David was a good lad, toured us very well
Amazing experience with Amanda! The food was great and she gave recommendations for things to do/places to eat along the way. Highly recommend.
Leonor made this food tour exceptional! Viator Tours are always the best and you are ensured that your guide is local and well versed so you feel immersed in the culture of the country you are visiting! This tour had some climbing involved but it brought you to those “hidden gems” true to its word! Food and drink was generous and we mingled with fellow travelers from all over the world! We learned a lot about Portugal’s wine which was helpful for the trip and Leonor gave us a great digital handout to top restaurants. Recommend this tour for your first days visit. It will put you on the perfect path for food and more!
Amanda was wonderful….very knowledgeable, exposed us to a nice variety of food
Leo is a nice guide in my food walk tour. She explained a lot of back ground(and fun)stories of foods I enjoyed. Even lacking food vocab. I enjoyed her talk a lot.
Leonor was an excellent guide on our food tour of Lisbon - engaging, interesting and informative. She was very personable and knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. We really felt that we understood Portuguese food and culture much better by the end of the tour. Would highly recommend.
Gabi was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable and fun. Highly recommended mmm.

My husband and I had a wonderful 3 hours with Melissa who was passionate and enthusiastic about the traditional foods available in Lisbon and the people who cooked/ produced them. We parted with satisfied stomachs and some knowledge of local foods and life in Lisbon. A real treat and a joy to spend time with Melissa!

Fantastic. Carlos was the ultimate guide. Very knowledgeable about the city history and the food was amazing. Would definitely recommend this tour - highly.
Exceptional! The journey, the stops, and the guide were very enjoyable. I ate dishes at restaurants I otherwise wouldn’t have - and I so happy I did!
Nice tour - awesome guide. The church stop was so-so - ok soup but sandwich was inedible. Last stop involved eating outside while standing; not great. Everything else was fab.
We had an excellent time on this tour, with our lovely guide Leo! We were able to visit places we would have NEVER found on our own, while also learning about the culture and history of Lisbon. There were lots of options for the vegetarians in our group. Highly recommend!
The many restaurants on Via Augusta are all well and good, and many are very good, but this tour takes you off the beaten path to little nooks and crannies you’d probably not get to by yourself, on holiday. Go early in your stay - then go back to the ones you liked. Oh, and Leonor(?) was lovely.
Leo was fun, knowledgeable and charming. All the food was new to us and a delightful experience. Highly recommend.
Leo was delightful and knowledgeable. The food was amazing. We had a great time. Would definitely recommend!
Our tour guide Leo was amazing and so knowledgeable. We had an amazing time on the food tour and all the stops were spectacular.
We (a couple) were joined by 3 others on this tour, with our amiable guide, Gabriel. It was a good thing that we started at the highest point of the tour and could navigate down the narrow and sometimes steep streets. Gabriel provided a great overview of Portuguese history and the wide-ranging influences on current modern Portuguese food (I guess that’s what happens when you’ve dominated the world centuries ago). He made sure we were well-fed and not thirsty. We finished off with pasteis de nata and his recommendation to sprinkle a little cinnamon on them was a revelation to all of us. And after that, he gave us some recommendations for local dining spots that we followed. Overall, a great tour.
This was our family's first food tour, and our first time in Lisbon. We did the Heart of Lisbon food tour with Amanda, and everything about the food and her direction was fantastic! The tour lasted around 3 hours with the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 children). We never felt rushed, and the entire experience felt so comfortable and natural, as well as interesting for everyone. We felt as if we were truly getting to see special spots we would not have found otherwise, with fascinating tidbits of history and culture as well. After the tour, we chatted a bit, and we're provided a list of reccomended bars, restaurants, venues, museums, and really anything we could possibly be looking for regarding the rest of our trip. We will remember this fondly!
This trip was amazing. Great food options, wonderful drinks, and Gabi was a wealth of information!! I couldn’t recommended it more!
Had a fabulous tour with Gabi- he was so knowledgeable and friendly and would highly recommend this tour
Amanda was great! Friendly, made everyone comfortable and expanded all the origins for the food.
We had our tour with Amanda and she was lovely and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend for good food and a cultural introduction to the city! Pastel de Natas are delicious 🤤
Truly one of my most memorable tours in all my travels. Miguel was an extraordinary human being who was passionate about making travel experiences authentic, meaningful, and loving. We had such a wonderful experience and highly recommend this tour with Miguel. Tchim-tchim querido amigo. A nossa! Hasta siempre 🙏🏼♥️🔥👑
Great experience. Good info shared. Interesting food. Carlos was personal. Only suggestion is that some of the dining settings were tight sitting and it was very warm.
Kriszti was fantastic! At the beginning of our food tour, a few of us mentioned a few local things we were interested in trying that wasnt on the route, so she made sure to point out the best places to try them or provide recommendations. Kriszti was knowledgeable and kind . Simply lovely!!!
Kriszti, is fabulous! Wonderful locations, food, and she is an amazing person!
Great local food tour with Ricardo. He explained all the food and beverage selections (including the background of vinho verde) and was very engaging on the tour highlighting local sites. Perfect way to start my trip to Lisbon!
