This was by far the best tour we had while in Lisbon. Our tour guide we amazing. Had the best custard we have ever had in our lives. Can't say the pork sandwich was great but it was a super experience. If visiting Lisbon you must take a food excursion to top off your trip!

Unfortunately we went on the weekend and many of the restaurants we were to go to were closed, so we only went to one. We did get all six dishes to try but I feel we missed some of the tour this way. Also there were political protests which kept us from some other parts of the city. Alpha was fantastic and made our tour worthwhile. We laughed and told stories and saw some beautiful places.
Excellent !! Food was delicious and our guide very knowledgeable! Loved walking around the little shops.
The food was exceptional and Joao was an excellent guide that provided excellent local knowledge of both the food and history. The afternoon felt like just hanging out with a friend and eating great food.
Our tour guide never showed. After 30 minute wait I contacted Viator who told me the tour guide had a family emergency so we would not be able to have the tour. I know these thing can happen but it would have been nice to have been notified instead of me notifying them. Viator was excellent at refunding our money quickly.
Great tour and Andre was an excellent tour guide. He made the tour an interesting and fun experience and was able to give us recommendations to continue our evening in a local bar.
Sonia was awesome! The food and drink she picked were perfect and the added history of the city made it truly unforgettable! Would highly recommend especially if you can have her as your guide .
Our tour guide, Sonia, was wonderful! She was very informative, easy to talk to and took us on the best food tour! Great food at wonderful local restaurants. Highly recommend her!
Ana was great! The food was great-she took us to places that were local, small and delicious. The time was perfect-4ish hours-the amount of food was plentiful the variety was great.
Great tour! Knowledgable guide. This is the best way to get the best food and have an amazing experience.
Pedro was an amazing guide!!! He took us on a tantalizing tour that not only taught us some history of this beautiful city, but we also enjoyed some local hidden culinary gems! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. Pedro you are the best!!
This should have been so much better, although glad we booked and would use Local People again. We met our guide, who was very knowledgable and interesting. He probably spent more time with us than was booked and took us to a couple of unusual places that we were unlikely to have found on our own, but with extremely modest food and a couple of drinks. When considering the evening we were expecting more than these two stop-offs for the price we paid. At £73 per-head we did not feel we got value for money.
I did the 10 tastings and everything was delicious. I even tried codfish for the very first time. At first I thought it was going to be a problem because the host, Peter, was not at our meeting point. After speaking with Peter, he mentioned that I was not on the schedule even though I had received a confirmation. However, Peter was able to run the tour regardless. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Lisbon and took us to some great places to eat and drink. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon. If you want to experience authentic local food while learning about the city's rich history, this is an experience you won't want to miss.
Angelo was excellent!!! We truly appreciated his passion for and knowledge of Portugal history and culture! My teenage boys who are not easily impressed said he was Amazing and the best tour guide they ever had! We travel a lot so this is not based on a small sample!!! If you want someone who truly cares about the local culture and knows their history, book Angelo!
An excellent evening with Padro. Our family of 5 met (kids 17, 13, and 13) had no problem meeting up with him. He was funny, knowledgeable and knew amazing spots for our 6 food stops. One of us was allergic to shellfish and we had a picky kid however this did not hinder the experience! This was our first day in Lisbon and was a great way to start our trip!
This was a great activity to visit local restaurants and sample authentic Portuguese food. Our guide, Andy was fantastic and shared history of the various dishes and Portugal! I would highly recommend this tour.
Great food stops that we would have never found on our own. The tour guide was helpful and went above and beyond just a food tour of the city. Would recommend the 10 item choice. The Clams were my favorite.
Fantastic guide and tour! Sonia was very knowledgeable and nice to work with, and she took us to the coolest spots that we would not have found otherwise.
Elisa was an amazing guide for our 6 tastings foodie tour! She reached out to me several days ahead of time to introduce herself and to make a specific meeting plan. She was very personable and likable, and knowledgeable about the foods and beverages we tasted during the tour. She also added so much to the tour by giving us some history and background of the area as we walked to the different restaurants. And, importantly, the foods were so delicious! I would recommend Elisa and this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon!
If you are considering a tour in Lisbon stop looking and book with Angelo. You will have no regrets. We started with the hidden gems tour and were so impressed that we immediately booked a food tasting tour as well. His wealth is knowledge about Lisbjns’s history is truly remarkable, but what makes him exceptional is the way he brings that history to life. His love for Portugal shines through every story he shares, and he has a unique gift for presenting information in a way that is engaging and easy to follow. Angelo is funny, personable and incredibly congenial. Rather than delivering a standard scripted tour, he took the time to learn about our interests and personalized our experiences. If you want an authentic informative and enjoyable experience hire Angelo. It will. Terribly be one of the highlights of your trip!
Carlos was wonderful. He shared his extensive knowledge on Lisbon as well as historical information on Portugal 🇵🇹. The food was delicious and he was able to tailor for no beef or pork. Thank you, Carlos.
Alphe (our guide) was very knowledgeable about Portuguese history, culture, food & wine. He was also a lovely person. I liked the fresh sardines we tried as it was something I had wanted to try. However, I wish that we would’ve visited more places (we only went to two restaurants + one bakery to have paste de nada, which we’d already had), and the food we had was just average (& wasn’t enough!).
The tour was AMAZING. We walked from the hotel, UPHILL a considerable amount to get to the meeting point. The benefit of starting at one of the highest points in the city is that the entire tour was walking downhill!! Our guide was engaging, enthusiastic and personable. She took us to local places with less than 10 tables each, exactly the local feel we were hoping for. Each stop included wines and foods local to the area, again perfect for our group of 8 world travelers. We had plenty of time at each stop to enjoy the location, foods and beverages, and relax a bit before a leisurely stroll to the next stop. While the total tour was several hours, the vast majority of the time is spend in local places enjoying the wines and foods. Overall, this was a fantastic experience that was well worth the investment.
Joao, our guide was fantastic. We took the tour on Independence Day, so most of the restaurants he usually took travelers to were too full so the second tier restaurants were open but meh. Joao gave us a great tour of the city which introduced to Lisbon.
It was a great introduction to food in Lisbon and the guide was very nice! The food was delicious I enjoyed it.
The food was delicious, Sonia was lovely, and it was a very enjoyable walking tour of downtown. Perfect introduction to Lisbon!
Wonderful evening with Alphé, he was a magnificent host and a great person. We went with four of us, with two girls 14 and 17. The food was great, and everyone in the family tried a few things they had never tried before. One was a small establishment down an alley that seemed tremendously popular with locals, maybe a dozen tables and when we left there was a very long line to get in, not expensive but very good. Then we went to a gorgeous building in a stye similar to a riad with another great meal. We would not have found the places on our own, nor would we have ordered the dishes Alphé selected for us, so was a great experience. Alphé himself was more memorable than the food, and we learned a lot about the city, culture, and cuisine, and also had some great discussions -- regardless of the situation, tour, if you ran into him you'd love to hang out and chat with him. Also recommend this personal tour over small group tours, since can be more responsive to individual tastes, and easer to get into restaurants with just the five of us.
This was one of the best tours. Advise…..go with an empty stomach. We had the opportunity to taste so many different foods and all of them were absolutely delicious. I would do this again if I could. Our guide Elisa was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. She has an amazing energy!!!!
We were in the beautiful town of Ericeira for 4 days during March, and my husband booked a tour with Angelo, from Withlocals. It was 3 and a half hours of walking through the beautifully preserved, blue and white tiled town, stopping at local bakeries, coffee shops, restaurants, fish markets, and sandwich shops along the way. We had wine. We learned about Ericeira's history. We walked into a tiny all-tiled church, all the way being guided by Angelo, who's knowledge, authenticity, and passion for sharing his knowledge with us came through clearly. It was one of my favorite experiences of our two week trip in Europe, and I cannot recommend him highly enough!
Our tour with Elisa was wonderful. She was very fun to talk to and knew the best places for great food.
Ricardo is very knowledgeable. He has a great personality and very welcoming. We really enjoyed the tour. The custard tarts were amazing. Thanks from Gabrielle and Aidan
Antonio was an excellent guide through Lisbon. The tour was perfectly paced, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed visiting with him during the entire two hours. We parted ways knowing so much more about Portuguese food and felt like we had made a friend in Antonio. Highly recommended. Bonus - we were enjoying a Bifana at a little joint when he told us that Anthony Bourdain had eaten there many years ago. Tracked down a photo from the episode and one of the kids recreated it.
Cecilia was amazing! Knowledgeable about the food and history of Lisbon, she provided a wonderfully contextual experience. Can’t wait to tour with her again!
TERRIBLE! Done many food tours all over world and this one is by far the worst. Entire family left hungry and went to restaurant to eat after. Unacceptable for paying almost $100/ person Here is what we received: Restaurant 1 - 1 wine, olives, bread, cheese, salad, cold cut meat plate. Kitchen was closed at place but after we complained we did get 1 cooked sausage to split between the 4 of us Location 2- stopped at pastry shop for small dessert Location 3- 1 shot of Jinja. That’s it. 10 courses were really at best 8 of nothing but appetizers. I called to complain with Viator and they did nothing for us and acted like this was normal. Even after I told them about all the other food tours we have done SO don’t do this tour unless you want to leave hungry
Great time, hidden gems, learned so much about the city at the same time. our guide Jaoa was perfect!
What an awesome experience with Rodrigo! He was very hospital, a great person to chat with, answered every question , and showed us some amazing meals. Would highly recommend him to anyone coming to Lisbon.
Ana’s food tour was a highlight of our time in Lisbon. She blended history, culture, and incredible local flavors in a way that felt both authentic and fun. Every stop was thoughtful, the tastings were generous, and Ana made the whole experience feel personal and welcoming. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to truly experience Lisbon through its food
Tour was cancelled by the guide and clearly not communicated to Viator and therefore, not to us. We waited in the cold breeze for 35 minutes for our tour guide to appear and finally received a text stating she was not available from her, not from viator. I did use the text option to ask customer service about the status and no one got back to me in a timely manner. Would I use Viator as a tour aggregator again? I'm not sure. I think there are benefits to having a platform for small groups to use for managing tours, but perhaps it is better to go straight to the source/tour company. Our time in Lisbon was short, and this was planned as a highlight to learn more about the food and get to know the city better, so it is extra disappointing.
Our guide Peter took us on a culinary and historical journey through Lisbon. We enjoyed the restaurants he took us to and also other favorite food spots that were near where we went. The tour was very interesting and informative.
Tour guide Lucia had a delightful personality. She explained each food clearly. Walked us around Lisbon to out of the way places. I would take this tour again.
Our food tour with Alfredo was just perfect. His attention to detail and desire to deliver a great service was genuine and much appreciated.
Great historical informative walk and lots of tasty food. Wished we’d done it at the start of our trip. Angelo very knowledgable and highly recommend.
Angelo from With Locals gave us what was hands-down the best part of our entire trip to Lisbon. We simply cannot recommend him highly enough! From the moment he met us right at our hotel, Angelo was warm, engaging, and genuinely fantastic. He didn't just give us a tour; he gave us a deep, authentic journey into the flavors, history, and culture of Lisbon. The tour itself was spectacular—a perfectly curated selection of must-try local foods mixed with fascinating historical insights. Angelo was amazing and I’d tell any friend going to Lisbon to do a tour with him. I wish I could find an Angelo in every city!
Ann was the most friendly and informative host for our walking food tour of Lisbon. Be ready to get some steps in and eat some of the best food in Lisbon. We’ll definitely book with Ann when we return!
For $320 or $80 per person, you too can partake in this fine “food tasting” tour: 4 cold appetizers from Ponto de Encontro, a chorizo from Casa Do Alentejo, and a custard tart from Manteigaria. Talk about a complete and total rip-off. I’ve never been so let down by a Tripadvisor tour, especially one boasting a baffling 4.8 rating with over 700 reviews, and we’ve participated in many across different countries. And it’s not like we booked this at the last minute to justify a higher cost, it was booked at least 2 months before our trip. I expected six proper stops featuring must-try Portuguese classics like a bifana, francesinha, or even the country’s famous hot dog. Instead, we got 4 cold, mediocre appetizers at the first stop that soured the rest of the tour once we realized we only had 2 more stops left. We do not recommend this tour. Out of all the experiences we booked, this was the only one that disappointed us.
Brought some friends to Lisbon for food tour on our day off the boat from our european cruise. Angelo , our guide , was very accommodating by adjusting start time and location to work with our shore excursion schedule for the boat. Angelo was eager to share history portugal and the local cuisine. The Pastéis de Nata , Ginjinha cherry brandy and pork sandwiches (befinas) and Afonso where amazing and best I've ever had in Lisbon. Highly recommend a food tour when you get to Lisbon
Our guide, Alfredo, was very knowledgeable about Portuguese history and was very enthusiastic about sharing Lisbon with us. The 6 tastings tour was 2 hours and included 2 stops.
Great experience. Andre was an amazing tour guide, who gave us interesting insights from the history of Portugal and traditional culinary culture.
Although the tour was enjoyable, we felt it was a bit disorganised for the cost. We got lots of information about food, but when we arrived to try, it was closed. This happened a few times.
Great way to sample fabulous local genuine food that has a history about it. Antonio was enthusiastic and very friendly
