About Activity
Discover Lisbon through its food on a private half-day tour that pairs an on-foot exploration of the city's most characterful neighbourhoods with a leisurely Tuk Tuk ride past its iconic sights. Guided by a local expert who knows the city's kitchens as well as its history, you'll taste your way through Lisbon's culinary heritage while gaining insight into how its diverse food culture has evolved across the centuries.
On your private food tour, you will:
- Experience Lisbon’s wonderful food scene with a local guide;
- Explore on foot and on wheels with a scenic 1-hour Tuk Tuk ride through the city of Seven Hills;
- Taste truly authentic Lisbon staples such as succulent Bifana sandwiches and Bacalhau (codfish);
- Visit the charming historic neighbourhoods of Baixa, Alfama and Mouraria;
- See some of Lisbon’s famous landmarks and hear how the city’s culinary culture has evolved across the centuries;
- Try lesser-known seasonal dishes and find out more about Lisbon’s dynamic restaurant scene;
- Sip Portuguese beer and regional wines carefully selected to pair with the tastings;
- Finish with a delectable dessert at one of Lisbon’s oldest bakeries.
Your adventure begins in Baixa, where you'll meet your guide and settle into the rhythm of the tour with a classic bifana pork sandwich and a cold Portuguese beer, the quintessential Lisbon street food pairing enjoyed by locals for generations. It is the perfect introduction to a city where simple ingredients create unforgettable flavours.
After your first taste of the Portuguese capital, you'll board a private Tuk Tuk for a relaxed one-hour ride weaving through the elegant streets of Baixa and up into Alfama, Lisbon's oldest quarter. On a carefully chosen route, you’ll pass beneath the walls of São Jorge Castle, catch glimpses of the Tagus River, and roll past the Lisbon Cathedral, all while your guide shares stories that bring the passing streets to life. It is an ideal way to take in the city's dramatic hillside geography and discover some of its most spectacular viewpoints.
The tour continues on foot through Mouraria, one of Lisbon’s most captivating neighbourhoods, known for being the birthplace of fado. Wandering its narrow streets, you'll learn about the layers of history and culture that have shaped this part of the city while sampling more of its culinary treasures. Depending on the season and time of day, tastings might include Portuguese cheeses, a comforting plate of bacalhau à brás (the famous cod dish that is one of Portugal’s most beloved recipes), or other seasonal specialities that showcase the depth and creativity of Lisbon's food scene, accompanied by regional wines and beer.
Of course, no exploration of Lisbon’s food culture is complete without a pastel de nata, so the afternoon draws to a sweet close at one of Lisbon's oldest bakeries, where you can enjoy this perfectly flaky custard tart in all its glory.
Once it is time to say goodbye to your guide, you’ll have gotten a comprehensive introduction to the city and some of its most emblematic flavours, along with plenty of recommendations for what to see, do and eat next.
