Hugo helped us plan our group of 8 people from the start of our trip to the end of our trip. We were picked up in an 8 passenger van from the airport and dropped off at our hotel. The following days we were picked up each day from our hotel for a full day private tour. We did a Lisbon tour, sintra palace Quinta tour, sesimbra tour, evora tour and then they even picked us up and dropped us off to the airport. Everything was on time and they were very flexible and catered to our schedule. The guides Alfredo & Pedro were very nice and very knowledgeable and shared all the history of each location we visited. Hugo helped me plan the trip and guided me on how to purchase tickets for places we visited. He was very communicative and responded to all my questions & requests promptly. It was an awesome trip and the entire group had an awesome time. All I have to say is…. You won’t go wrong to book with walkborder tours Portugal with Hugo. Everything went so smoothly and was reasonably priced.

The choice of what palace ( or palaces ) to visit is yours, the guide will suggest that it is best for you to visit between: “Quinta da Regaleira”a palace from the XIX. Although it seems to be older, with a decoration that impresses, rich in Masonic symbolism, Moorish Castle a testimony of the Islamic presence in the region, built between the 8th and 9th centuries and enlarged after the Reconquest or why not the Palaçio da Pena, a a fantastical and revivalist reconstruction, to the taste of nineteenth-century romanticism, which was owed to the passion and imagination of the artist D. Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg Gotha, consort of D. Maria II.
Sintra is without a doubt one of the most extraordinary places in Portugal, mainly because of its microclimate that transforms this small town situated on the slopes of the mountain range “Serra de Sintra” and next to the Atlantic into a major attraction for visitors. Admire its famous castles and palaces or simply taste the traditional food, pastries, sweets and souvenir shops selling typical local items. In it´s historic center where you will have time to try the famous “travesseiros” and “queijadas” in the Piriquita Pastry Shop and explore the narrow streets of the most romantic town in Portugal.
Belem the Lisbon district that personifies the epic of the Portuguese Discoveries, with several monuments classified Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity by Unesco. The Portuguese empire became one of the largest empires in all history, the majestic monuments that we find in Belem are a reflection of the golden era in the history of Portugal. Such as Monastery of Jerónimos, Belém Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries with the statues of the great Portuguese sailors and explorers, Pedro Alvares Cabral, Vasco da Gama among others. The must-visit will be to the famous “Pastéis de Belém”, one of Portugal´s most typical pastries/sweets.
Step into Baixa, Lisbon’s vibrant and historic downtown, where grand 18th-century architecture meets traditional Portuguese charm. Rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1755 with a magnificent neoclassical grid design, this elegant district is perfect for a relaxed stroll. As you explore, you will marvel at the majestic architecture of Rossio Square and walk through the iconic Arco da Rua Augusta to open up into the breathtaking Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio) right by the edge of the Tagus River. Filled with traditional pastry shops, boutique stores, and bustling outdoor cafés, Baixa is the lively heart of the capital and an absolute must-visit to capture the true essence of Lisbon.
Step back in time in Alfama, the oldest and most atmospheric neighborhood in Lisbon. Having miraculously survived the great earthquake of 1755, this medieval labyrinth of narrow cobblestone alleys, hidden courtyards, and whitewashed houses looks and feels like a village frozen in time. As you wind your way up the scenic hills, you will catch the haunting melodies of Fado music echoing from traditional taverns and pass by historic landmarks like the majestic Sé Cathedral and the ancient ramparts of São Jorge Castle. Offering some of the most breathtaking panoramic views over the terracotta rooftops and the Tagus River from its famous miradouros (viewpoints), Alfama is the ultimate place to experience the authentic history, soul, and romance of Lisbon.

The tour operator is very fast to respond and is flexible in what you want to see/do during your tour. We had a comfy ride and positive experience. Be very specific in what you want to do with your time and your expectations of the guide. Ask questions and enjoy the sites! Enjoy the lunch stop - must order the goat. Is not games at all and cooked perfectly. Only reason four stars is lackluster cultural and historical information/narration.
Manuel was excellent. Post tour was still giving us pointers and good advice for our extended trip.
Unfortunately our driver was sent to the wrong hotel so we waited for 30 mins outside our hotel unnecessarily and wasted 30 mins of our tour time.
Worst trip ever taken using Viator. I have requested a full refund, because the tour operator failed to properly plan the tour around afternoon reservations at Pena Palace. The driver took is there first, not telling us where we were then got into a dispute over we should have bought tickets in advance. After wasting 90 minutes we figured out that this is where we had tickets for 13:30. The tour operator was informed of this 2 months in advance. Unfortunately, they didn’t tell the driver. This resulted is us not having enough time to visit Sintra, make stops along the way to take pictures or have lunch. By the time we finished Pena Palace we were highly irritated and done with the tour. The driver was a nice guy, but he had a dented wrecked van that was loud and uncomfortable. He also didnt have water as part of the included items. Don’t do this tour with Viator. Poor tour operator for Sintra tour.
The tour guide was incredibly nice and personable. She even spent more hours than we were booked for to get us to some cool spots around Lisbon near our hotel. Lovely day. Sintra castle and Pena castle were closed due to fire threats in the area. Would recommend checking Instagram for the latest updates. The "official" website said it was open but the Instagram for Sintra castle told the most accurate up to date info. Also another tour guide confirmed that Insta had the better info. Check before you go to not be disappointed. We had fun anyway touring around the city and she took us to some hidden outlooks because she was a local and knew the area very well. Also the surprise of Cabo do Roca was also one of the highlights of our trip. Lovely day.
Ruben was a wonderful tour guide He was well versed with history and took us to the palace and sintra He drove well and we also ate at a great place with fresh fish He went out of his way to help us I would recommend him thoroughly He also had a assistant Diego who was outstanding
Ruben was very friendly and professional. He took us to see many sights that we would not thought of to include in our vacation. We had a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it.
Four of us had a private tour around Lisbon and Sintra with Manuel. He was a terrific tour guide. He was very professional, did a lot of previous research and shared a wealth of knowledge with us all while navigating the congested traffic and narrow streets. Manuel was extremely accommodating and did his utmost to ensure we all had a wonderful day, which it was. He reached out numerous times before our tour date, asking if we had any specific requests. You would be lucky to have Manuel as your tour guide.
Ruben was a great guide. Advise people to dress warmly for Sintra as it is quite cool and breezy there. If I were to do again I would do Sintra one day and Lisbon a separate day. Such wonderful things to see and the tour went smoothly. Also for Sintea should be able to walk up hills and stairs.
All of it! Tour guide was great - Manuel was extremely informative, helpful, and generous with suggestions!
The whole tour was incredible and it was thanks to Pedro. If I had to describe him it would be "one of a kind". We went to Lisbon with my 3 kids and he was so patient, he took his time explaining everything. I would highly reccomend him and the tour.
This was one of the best private trips we took. We were a family of 7 coming off a cruise ship. Pedro picked us up with all our luggage. He took us to our hotel to drop it off and then off we went on our journey to explore Lisbon and Sintra. He was very informative and friendly. We had the best time. Thank you Pedro.
Eduardo was an amazing and knowledgeable tour guide. He tailored the tour to our interests and made sure we hit all the highlights. He provided so much history behind everything we saw and we learned so much. He made sure we tried the most amazing foods and got the best photos ops. This was an amazing way to hit the highlights if you have limited time in the area.
Our tour guide "Eduardo" was excellent. He was so knowledgeable about Portugal, the Lisbon area and its history. He customized the day for us based on our interests and timed each stop so we never felt rushed or bored. I highly recommend going with him on this trip.
The private tour through Lisbon and Cintra was fantastic with a professional and well informed drive/guide and very adaptable to whatever you wish to see. Highly recommend it!
Our guide Vito was on time, very knowledgeable, very attentive, and very relaxed. It was a great day.
This was an excellent tour, the Guide Pedro was the absolute best. Very knowledgeable and worked around our wishes. 10 stars
We really enjoyed the city tour of Lisbon, Cascais, and in particular Sinatra. Our experience was made most enjoyable by our guide, Rueben. He was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and most flexible in fulfilling our requests.
Terrific service - responsive, professional, knowledgeable guide. Manuel was very flexible with our timeline and custom requests!
If we could only give a million ⭐️ we would! Manuel, you are awesome, I can’t recommend you enough!!!! I will definitely request for you on our next visit!!! You’re like the “walking historian” of Portugal, very knowledgeable and so much fun!!! We’re so lucky to have you as our tour guide!! More blessings to you! Till next time - Paul&Didi
We had a fantastic time with Alfredo. He was very knowledgeable, loves his country, and was full of great suggestions to adapt the day to our interests. Our day started at Peña Palace, moved to the Quinta Da Regaliera and the stunning estate there. A great lunch in Cascais by the water. Finally we finished by checking out the hell’s gate and a leisurely drive back towards Lisbon along the water seeing old fortresses and learning the postwar history of the area. Make sure you ask Alfredo to show you the secret magnetic anomaly in Sintra. Blew our minds!
This was an excellent trip. Our driver, Alex was informative, warm and flexible. He was happy to take us where we wanted to go. The trip was tailored to our needs perfectly. We ended up seeing three palaces and having a nice lunch. Perfect day. I highly recommend this company. I went with my husband and kids and we were all very happy with it.
Great experience. I enjoyed it a lot Driver was very professional and knowledgeable. Excellent service.
Tour operator had an off day and only part of the tour completed. To their credit, the operator promptly addressed the situation and made things right, although our time was done and we could not see things that were omitted. Tours always somewhat dependent on the individual tour guide and, in this case, not the optimal person. Scenery and history was interesting.
the guide was very knowledgeable and professional. the car was comfortable and he gave me lots of opportunities to take pictures. The main reason i booked the tour was to go to the castle in Sintra but no one told us we needed tickets in advance. i could have done the same tour for less on the ship.
We had a great day with Manuel - we had a customized tour from Lisbon ending in Nazare. The tour company was wonderful - Hugo the CEO/manager was excellent at communicating and organizing everything in advance, and Manual did a great job driving and touring us around exactly where we wanted to go. He was able to accompany us into towns and give us information about what we were seeing, as well as restaurant recommendation for lunch. We had a van for 4 of us and our luggage, so we were very comfortable all day, with great driving. I would 100% recommend this company, we had a great day!
We had a fantastic time with Ricardo on our tour. He was entertaining, professional, and we had a lot of fun on our visits of Óbidos and Sintra. They were able to fit us in last minute and we’ll certainly set up another tour when we’re in Portugal.
Our guide Thomas was amazing. Took us to Sintra and surrounding beach areas. Really nice day with a knowledgeable guide.
We took the Sintra/Cascais tour from our Cruise ship in Lisbon with Bruno from Walkborder tours today. He was amazing. He was fully knowledgeable of the region and history during our 7 hours together. He was accommodating and fun to be around. The Mercedes M class the two of were toured in was a very comfortable way to enjoy a very good day. Ask for Bruno!
Our guide Bruno was fantastic! He shared so much information along the drive and with each room of the castle. He was always right where he said he would be after a snack or lunch break. The tour was just the right amount of touring and free time. He was an excellent driver, the car was very comfortable, and he got us back to our ship at the time we requested. I highly recommend him for any tour.
We chose this tour because we only had one day and we wanted to see as much as possible in both Lisbon and Sintra. Our tour guide, Manuel, certainly delivered. He was a walking and driving encyclopedia. We chatted the day before re: what our priorities were, and he customized the tour to those. He knew what was possible (and what was not) in the time allotted, and was very helpful in determining alternatives when necessary.
We had a wonderful visit to Sintra with Manuel who picked us up from our hotel right on time. He was extremely accommodating with the changes we made to the itinerary including a visit to the somewhat out of the way but fantastic Capuchin Convent hidden away in a forest. We were able to hit everything on our extensive itinerary (we skipped the crazy crowded Peña Palace). Manuel’s knowledge of everything we saw was both extensive and entertaining. He was a great driver who knew all the ins and out of getting us places quickly and finding some sneaky parking spots! He also calculated the best times to go to each site with fewer crowds. I would highly recommend Walkborder Tours and Manuel.
Jorge is knowledgable tour guide and made the trip a memorable experience for our family. The drive to Sintra is amazing and the village and palace are awesome.
Manuel was gracious, most accommodating and knowledgeable spoke perfect English. We truly enjoyed our day with him
What a beautiful city and wonderful experience my wife and I had yesterday. Panoramic views, great food, rich history and our driver and guide made it a trip we will remember always…. Thank you.
Manuel, our guide, was exceptionally knowledgeable. He was also very flexible on the tour, making sure we saw exactly what we wanted. Highly recommended.
This was our first trip to Portugal and we only had a few days so we squeezed in a one day Lisbon and Sintra private tour but honestly, it should have been a three days trip because there are so much to see in this beautiful country. Our guide Manuel was incredibly enthusiastic and passionate in showing us the best of what Lisbon and Sintra has to offer in all its cultural and architectural grandeur ! Our most favorite and memorable places , besides the absolutely stunning Palace of Queluz which is truly a hidden gem amongst the many more famous palaces, he also took us to Praia das Macas (Apple Beach) a charming town situated on the Sintra coastline. We spent a relaxing afternoon gazing at the vast ocean and waiting each moment to see the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean hitting against the concrete frame of the vast ocean pool to make giant splashes coming right at us. With the warm ocean winds blowing in our faces, we could really have easily spent the whole day there ! We have a lot to thank our guide for, Manuel has an immense ability to connect with people and he is so passionate to share his knowledge of his beautiful country, not only its natural beauty, it’s history and culture, but also it’s music ! We ended our day sitting in his car listening to some beautiful Portuguese music ! For one day, we were absolutely spoilt !
Elvira gave us a wonderful tour of the highlights of Lisbon. Her knowledge of the different styles of architecture and history of Portugal was enlightening. The highlight was the pomp and circumstances of the President welcoming the envoy from Nigeria in Belem. Sinatra was charming but very crowded due to cruise ship visitors. Timing is everything!
My expectations were to visit the Jerónimos monastery which is describe in the booking part of the trip, however I did get to tour it. Instead we went to Sintra. Our guide did not come in the castle, but other guides did and we were able to catch pieces of the castle stories. Carlos our guide was charismatic but the booking was received by Hugo Goncalvez. Carlos is a subcontractor for Hugo. Hugo forgot to noticed us that the planned attractions In Lisbon (monastery) was closed on Mondays. How would I know coming from another country that the items that I booked where not available? If informed I would have chance the date. I wasted my day without achieving my expectations, although the subcontractor Carlos made us have a good time with what we have. It is a shame that the booking site take advantage of tourist unaware of the cultural differences. What was described was not delivered
We had a one day tour of Sintra with Manuel. Manuel is passionate about his job. He was responsive and responsible, called and checked in with us the day before. He suggested to leave earlier than scheduled to skip a long line at the Palace which was a great suggestion. If we had gone with the original plan, we have to stay inline for hours to get in to the palace. He is very knowledgeable and flexible and planned the day perfectly. We highly recommend him.
We enjoyed our tour with Bruno so very much. He was very informative and very friendly. He gives us the best tour in Both places. We were so happy to have him as a guide. Very professional and again give us some great information about Portugal that we felt part of the family. Thank you Bruno. We will definitely recommend you to all those that will come visit Portugal because you were great.
Bruno was incredible! He took us on a tour two days: first to Fátima and Óbidos and then to Sintra and Cascais. He is such a kind man and so very knowledgable about all the history of Portugal. He is very patient and let’s you enjoy your experience and doesn’t rush you. When we were done, we felt like friends with Bruno! When we come back, we will DEFINITELY be reaching out again and will ask for Bruno. Thank you for making our trip so enjoyable. I can’t say enough great things about the experience.
Peter brought it all to life. We love are in love with Portugal and ready to move here! Peter also brought us out to the tip of the nose, Cabo de Rocca. That was a treat and was extraordinary. Also he preplanned our lunch with a view.
the driver, Pedro, was the best part of the trip, engaging and informative but he also know when to back off and provide quiet time. I had altitude sickness from the trip to the castle and he was very solicitous of my health and then provided quiet time in the car afterward. He also went above and beyond the duty of a tour guide by providing a remedy for my wife's stomach ailment(he stopped at his home and picked up boldo leaves for her to make tea).
I lead small group tours around the world, and when I decided to stopover in Portugal before my tour in Moroccco, I started researched for tour operators. I stumbled upon Hugo’s company, and contacted him directly. It was such a pleasure to work with him, and he gave us the best tour guide -Pedro for five days! Pedro went above and beyond his service to please us and always anticipate ahead of our daily plans and itinerary! He recommended only the best restaurants in town. When new restrictions were in place, he was quick to act and took us all to get our covid test done while Al the pharmacies were all booked up. All my clients in the group were extremely pleased and happy! Thank you so much Hugo and Pedro for making our Portugal trip memorable!
Sinatra was beautiful! The tour of Lisbon was very informative. We saw so much more than if we were on our own. Pedro is the best!
What a lovely day with Carlos! Carlos is an experienced guide who is both attentive to our needs and very informative about his country and his culture. We hired him for a private day tour in Lisbon. He was patient and kind. He was extremely informative and we especially liked his knowledge of fun places to stop for a photo or a coffee! Thank. you Carlos for making our day with you both memorable and professional.
We had a wonderful time with Carlos. From our tour of the Pena Palace to lunch in Sintra and driving all over Lisbon to see the different neighborhoods and attractions. We learned a lot about the history of Lisbon and Portugal. It was a perfect introduction to the city.
We reached out to Hugo in advance of our trip to arrange transfer and tours for our few days in Lisbon. Great experience with great service. No issues upon arrival with Manuel waiting for us and taking care of our transfer. We were extremely lucky to have Carlos as our tour guide. He took great care of us, extremely knowledgeable and made our visit so memorable. Highly recommend this tour and Carlos as your guide. This was one of our favorite parts of our holiday.
