Reviews
Our guide was excellent. He managed to get us into the Monastery earlier than we could book online, which we were so happy about. He gave a great explanation and was very friendly.
Easy to book same day. Skipped the line. Nice overview of the history before admission into the monument. Met in the garden beforehand.
Great introduction to the monastery by our guide. Got us the tickets we needed!
This experience only includes the purchase of tickets and a short introduction from a guide before you enter the Monastery. That was all we needed. Our guide Anik did a great job of communicating, and he gave us a good tip to avoid standing in long lines as well as some history about the site. The monastery itself was beautiful and well worth seeing.
Very nice host, great experience
Very informative!! Lots of information and details!! Highly recommended to do this tour!
Anik was super helpful and knowledgeable about the Monastery. Anik was polite and answered our questions about the site.
Our guide Anik was very informative and knowledgeable and also advised us to meet slightly later than ticket time to avoid the queues which was very helpful. The church was closed until 3pm for tours on a Sunday which was a bit disappointing but the monastery itself was nice
I only booked through tripadvisor to get the earliest entry time of 9:30. Night before monastery, guide emails me to meet 23 minutes from spot at 9:50. By the time I would get back at 10:15, wait in line, I wouldn’t enter until closer to 11:00. At this point, I could’ve bought cheaper tickets direct for 10:30. After I messaged back that this was unacceptable, she sent me tickets electronically and I entered at 9:30 when the monastery is empty. So, worked out in end, but you have to undergo some stress with correspondence. You’re only going through tripadvisor to get earlier time and don’t need them to hold your hand.
Its self guided with no audio, difficult to meet tour guide. Alot of groups and single tourists. difficult finding tour guide who simply walked us across street, left us in line and departed.
The monastery is breathtaking, but we only saw the inner perimeter and associated rooms. We did not find pathways to get to either end. We passed a cathedral on the exit but they said we needed to go outside to the line to get back in. The line at that time was very long. In general, things are very poorly marked. We used Viator to be able to skip the long lines which was a complete waste of money as there was no line when we arrived for our morning time slot and he was gone immediately after so no help for the later line. The Viator guide also tried to rearrange our schedule and was quite persistent and then was late when we adjusted to accommodate him.
Via a savvy knowledge of the system, you can bypass the line. Monastery is lovely, but access to certain areas is highly restricted. Please note bathrooms are stacked, Mens on Second Floor - Women’s on First Floor, necessitating walking all around the perimeter (for some unknown reason), so plan accordingly if you need to drop that deuce in short order. As with most of Portugal, effective signage is not available at the Monastery; thankfully the staff is super nice and happy to provide directions.
We got to the event a little late and our guide could not have been more gracious to wait on us and help us get in without hassle.
It was nice to have someone to navigate us through the ticket line and provide a bit of history on the Monastery. I definitely recommend purchasing these in advance as they were sold out that day by the time met up with our host. Had we waited, we would not have been able to see this beautiful place.
Totally worthless. You are better off booking direct instead of using this service. I thought I was getting a fast pass entry instead guide gave us the tickets when we met him and made us stand in the regular entrance line where we waited along with the rest of the crowd. He told us 10 min about the Monastery which you can read up online and not useful and then was gone! Don’t waste your money or time here.
Bianca was fantastic! I learned so much about the food, history and culture. She was a wealth of knowledge and her passion for supporting the locally owned restaurants was even more endearing.
We had a wonderful time and would certainly recommend!
Anik was THE BEST !! I had traffic & Bolt issues getting to our meeting point; Anik was fabulous about staying in touch. He explained alternatives, and kept in constant contact with me. In the end, he even waited for me, even though his next meetup was going to be very close timing. He gave me a nice history of what I was about to see, directed me to the spot for me to enter ( with no wait ) and made this experience wonderful.
Total rip off. I paid $29 and all i got was a 9Euro entry ticket. I never saw the guide, i called him, he said he didnt show up at meeting point because he texted me my entry ticket. He said i could walk right in passing the line. No, one cant do that. It was a total rip off
Exceptional service. All tickets sold out at Counter, but found for same day/ today entry tickets. Not only that to save our time as we were already at the meeting place, Anik helped us to get in earlier than our reservation time..That saved us lot of time. Helpful, curious & prompt service. Highly recommended.
Our start time on our reservation voucher stated 1pm. We showed up at the meeting location at 12:45pm. Our reservation states that our guide would have a flag indicating the tour operator name and we should look for that. We spent a few minutes walking around looking for a tour guide with a flag. We found no one. I looked at our voucher for the contact number and called our guide, Anik. I told him we’ve been looking for him but see no flag or signs for the tour. Anik then complained (!) that he’s been trying to reach me. After a description of our attire, he found us. He had no flag and nothing distinguished him from any other person in the area. He told me he sent emails trying to tell me that he would be gone if we didn’t show up. This was at 12:50pm and our voucher time was 1pm. I then looked at my emails and saw ONE email he sent me at 12:50pm (just before I called him). It stated that our meeting time was 12:50 (not 1pm as on our voucher) and he had another appointment in 15 minutes so we need to meet him now as he is waiting for us. If that wasn’t enough, once we met, he told us the church would be open at 2pm. We waited until 2:25pm and the church was not open, so we left. In a nutshell, Anik was making us the scapegoat for his lack of time management and planning with his clients, AND misinformed us regarding church hours. We were left with the impression that he had better things to do than what we paid for (which was clearly stated on our voucher,) and just didn’t care about our experience, and misinformed us. We felt scammed. Skip this “skip-the-line” tour!
Handled very professionally, very punctual and made the experience very complete. He had us ready to enter our Jeronimos Monastery experience well prepared
This is a must ! What an incredibly beautiful and important place. Get your tickets early because it sells out fast .
Simply fabulous. Reasonable pricing too!
Would do again. Do not need a guide to show you where to stand. Buy tickets online to avoid the line
We had lot of confusion on this, when we booked we assumed that it was a guided tour . But when we bought the tickets only we realized it was only 10 min introduction getting the tickets and enter the monastery. When we came out from monastery we had to wait in a long line to enter the Church . We would have appreciated if that was told to us before . Anik was explained about the history of the monastery very well . If any one wants a better experience I would say to buy the tickets with guide inside the monastery and enter the chapel without waiting in the lines .
It was very confusing communication. I didn’t get the text until I arrived. We just met at the entrance for 10 minutes, it didn’t skip the line. We felt extremely disappointed.
Communication was great and all expectations were met, smooth and convenient access. The monastery is absolutely gorgeous worth visiting!
Anik went above and beyond i getting us into the Monastery on a very busy Sunday when we were running behind and missed our entrance time. I greatly appreciate how accommodating and helpful he was. He saved the day for us. THANK YOU!
A truly stunning site. The stone work is incredible and being able to photograph the detail of the Monastery was wonderful Anik was our guide at the beginning of the tour and he was the best! Very informative and friendly
The host was professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. He met us on time before the tour, gave us an excellent description of the Jeronimos Monastery and Church. Although a guided tour was not a part of our tour, I would strongly recommend the host.
It was great having Anik as a host, we were able to skip to the front of a very long line and we received a great history of the Jeronimos Monastery before entering!
Anik met us prior to entry and provided a very detailed and informative history of the monastery and church. He was friendly. Highly recommended Anik.
I was looking for a ticket for today, but there weren't any left anywhere. Then I found this option and used it—it was more expensive, but it was for the same day and helped avoid the lines. I’m happy with it; everything was fine.
While Jerónimos Monastery itself is absolutely stunning, this marketed “tour” is honestly a joke. The listing isn’t technically misleading—it does provide a “host” who meets you outside the monastery and gets you started, but then they simply leave you to explore on your own. In other words, you’re paying extra for something you don’t need. We booked this option because it was cancellable, but in hindsight, we would have been much better off purchasing tickets directly through the monastery’s website. Save yourself the extra money and skip this “host.” I wouldn’t recommend it.
It was worth the extra cost to skip the very long queue for entrance to the monastery. Anik messaged us beforehand to share the meeting point, gave us our tickets and a brief history of the monastery before showing us where to enter.
Although I had a 930 entry, he contacted me and asked if I could come at 9:50 which was fine with me but when I got there, he was still with another client and we were delayed getting in. Do not book this tour because you can buy the tickets for $12 or buy them online and save yourself what is being charged by this Huxter. We only had five minutes with him when he gave a very brief tour and then took us to the front of the line. We would’ve been at the front of the line either way.
First of all, the tickets are not timed they are wide range of time. We did not get the tickets in advance as we opted to listen to the infor session about the monastery with the guide. The guide gave a vague location and despite seeing us did not walk over to meet us. He did not have our tickets readily able to send through WhatsApp/gmail due to not having them on him in the sent tickets. I feel the guide should have waited for us in line. Not across the street under a random tree. Additionally, our tickets that we were sent were for 3:30pm as opposed to what we assumed was the 4:00 tour we picked. We waited in line for 45 min when we finally entered it felt rushed since the monastery closed at 5:00pm. The monastery itself is very nice but an audio tour would have been better than just walking through
Easy and fast. I just ask for my tickets in what’s app and in the next minute I got them
I wish I could give this a good review but our experience was not a positive one. Our ticket entry time was for 9:30 am but we didn’t enter until 10:17 am and our ticket was only good until 10:20 am. Our guide Anik was late due to transportation and so was the other guest he was waiting on. He quickly gave us a brief history, told us a few things to look for, sent us our tickets and showed us the line where we entered the monastery. We weren’t expecting a guided tour, but due to him being late, and waiting for the other guest it felt very rushed. The monastery was beautiful but also quick, we never saw the library he mentioned and the church was a separate and very long line. I have used Viator many times and have always been pleased with selection of tours, the Guides, the Reserve Now Pay Later feature and their customer service but this really missed the mark. All in all it was disappointing and not worth the price.
The guide Anik was informative and friendly giving us a debrief of the Belem tower!
Anik was very knowledgeable and helpful
Anik was great. We arrived late do to transportation but he found us and got us to the check in with no problem. Gave us some great tips and we really appreciated that.
Anika our guide was fantastic. We were running late but he got us into the Monastery with out any issues! I really appreciate his help.
Very highly recommended! My tour guide very patient , also I come little bit late he still wait for me , thank you very much !
Our guide Anik met us on time, was very friendly and helpful. Quick intro about the monastery was nice to get context before entering!
Amazing host had a lot of knowledge on the history
The meeting point was a huge fountain. It was not easy to find our guide and he was late. Otherwise, it was okay once he called me to narrow down a spot to meet.
Anik was great at explaining about the monastery and what we should look for. We highly recommend his services to beat the lines!
