We really enjoyed this tour and our guide, Tania, really was enjoyable. We went all over the town and got to see some nice sites, and learn about the city and its history. Even though we were with Tania for a long time her charm made it seem short. And she had a comfy van. I highly recommend this tour

Largo do Carmo is one of the most beautiful squares in Lisbon. Here, you can learn about the 1755 earthquake, as the Carmo Church has remained a ruin since that time. You can also explore the aqueduct system, as well as the many fountains and galleries throughout the city. Additionally, this square is significant for the 1974 democratic revolution, where the last Portuguese dictator was arrested. Don’t miss the chance to visit the neo-gothic Elevador de Santa Justa, built in 1902, and enjoy the stunning views it offers.
The neo-Gothic Santa Justa Elevator is the most popular viewpoint in downtown Lisbon. It is the only vertical street lift in the city, built in 1902. Designed by Raul Mésnier, an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel, it showcases stunning architecture.
The Chiado district is the most popular and expensive area in old town Lisbon. Here, you can find not only nice viewpoints, but also old cafés, bookstores, boutiques, grand theaters, and much more.
The Baixa district was completely destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. It was then rebuilt in a grid layout featuring beautiful squares by the Marquis of Pombal, who was the prime minister at the time. Today, Baixa serves as the commercial center of the city and is the only flat district in Lisbon's old town.
Alfama is the soul of Lisbon, the oldest neighborhood, a magical place filled with narrow streets, hidden courtyards, pitched rooftops, and labyrinthine alleyways.
This lookout point is the perfect place to relax and take in one of the best panoramic views of Lisbon. From here, you can see Sao Jorge Castle, the Tagus River, and charming neighborhoods such as Mouraria, Baixa, and Chiado, among others.
You will cross the April 25th Bridge, which resembles the Golden Gate Bridge. This large and scenic suspension bridge connects the northern and southern sides of Lisbon. It was renamed in honor of the day of the revolution—April 25th—which brought an end to the Salazar dictatorship in 1974.
The site of the Christ the King Statue (Cristo Rei) offers the best viewpoint of Lisbon. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the city and the Tagus River. Inspired by the statue in Brazil, this monument was erected in 1959 to express gratitude to God for sparing Portugal from the horrors of World War II. There is an entrance fee to go up to the statue, but the view from the bottom is quite similar.
It’s not possible to visit Lisbon without tasting one of the best-kept secrets of Portuguese pastries: the Pasteis de Belem. This delightful treat originated in a small bakery in 1837, and you'll have the opportunity to try one, as it’s included in the price of your visit. We will also share with you the local ritual for enjoying these delicious pastries.
The Mosteiro dos Jeronimos is the most famous monument in Portugal. It serves as a tribute from King Manuel to the great explorers of the 15th century, including Vasco da Gama, who discovered a sea route to India in 1498. During your visit, you will learn about the Portuguese maritime discoveries and have the opportunity to see the church where Vasco da Gama is buried. Please note that while you'll be visiting the church, you won't be going inside the monastery.
The Torre de Belém (Belem Tower) is a 500-year-old fortification located on a small island in the Tagus River. It was built as part of a defense system at the river's mouth and served as a ceremonial gateway into Lisbon. The tower is classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Please note that you will not be allowed to enter the monument.
The Padrao dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoverers) was constructed to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Henry the Navigator's death. It features representations of all the significant figures who contributed to Portugal's major achievements during the Age of Exploration, including Vasco da Gama, Bartolomeu Dias, Pedro Alvares Cabral, Ferdinand Magellan, and others.

We had a family of seven, ranging from ages 25 to 88. The entire family enjoyed this tour, we got to see the most important highlights of Lisbon in a few hours, stopping at the most important places. Lily our tour guide was extremely Knowledgeable and she was amazing!
We had an amazing tour. Miguel was very friendly and very knowledgable about history, architecture, etc. We had a really good time. Door-to -door pickup was a hit with our kids LOL
We had a fabulous private tour of Lisbon with our incredibly knowledgeable guide Tania. She was an excellent story teller and truly showed off Lisboa and the surrounding area with love. She showed us all the highlights and even took great photos of us as we explored the beautiful city. One of the highlights was the Pastrais de Belem tour and pastries with the secret recipe handed down through the centuries from the nearby monastery. Delicious and a taste of Lisboa!
Interaction with Lisbon Riders Since we were going to have a very short stay in Lisbon, we were looking for a reliable and knowledgeable local tour operator who can help us cover the most of Lisbon and Sintra. After reading positive reviews from Google and Rick Steve’s blog, we decided to go with Lisbon Riders and booked a private tour for both Lisbon and Sintra. Initial communication with them was via email and Manuel was very quick with response. Their Lisbon private tour usually starts in the morning but because of our flight timings, Manual accommodated us for an afternoon tour. At any point during our email communications, there was never any pressure from them regarding payment and they were flexible enough with our needs. Interaction with Ricardo (our tour guide) Our tour guide Ricardo arrived promptly at our hotel for pickup. After initial introductions and greeting each other in Portuguese (with help from our guide), we started our Lisbon tour. Within an hour we could see that he was very informative, knowledgeable based on the historical facts that he was providing and all the unique photo spots along the way making sure all-important landmarks are covered as described in the tour itinerary. We never felt rushed. Safety was always his top priority based the way he was navigating the roads (including narrow alleys). In fact, all the members in our group liked him so much that we requested Lisbon Riders to have Ricardo as our tour guide for Sintra as well. Weather was not a little cooperative and boy he was prepared with umbrellas for all of us during the entire trip. He also recommended us local shops in Lisbon and Sintra well known for their pastries. He pointed out a common and popular Lisbon souvenir made from bark of the cork oak tree which is a prominent local resource in Portugal and helped us with a price estimate when buying from local vendors making sure we are getting our money's worth. We were all vegetarians and his food/restaurant recommendations (Timeout square marketplace, Honest Greens and few in Chiado area etc.) really help us a lot. Thank You Lisbon Riders and Ricardo for making our Portugal tip a memorable one. Patel family - Jitendra, Hetal, Ved Shah family - Jigar, Dimple, Jash, Jiya
Wonderful tour. Kat showed us the many highlights of Lisboa. Also saves a lot of climbing the hills to see the major sites!
Thank you for an amazing tour of your beautiful city. Your knowledge of history and ability to answer all our questions made the day a pure joy. Thank you for your flexibility. It made it possible for us to see and do everything we had hoped to do. It also helped us to stay dry 😁.
Ricardo, our guide, was knowledgeable with a great sense of humour. He was determined to show us everything that is great about Lisbon and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. We would not hesitate to book with Lisbon Riders on our next visit and ask for Ricardo as our guide! Thank you so much
We had an amazing day with Tania & Miguel. They were so friendly and a lot of fun. It was great to learn about the history behind the beautiful sights we got to see.
The perfect way to see Lisbon thanks to our very knowledgable driver Fernando. Well organised for stops and photos and minimal crowds. The rich history of Lisbon told by Fernando enabled us to experience a real appreciation of Lisbon.
Wonderful day exploring with Tanya. She’s passionate about her city and a wealth of information! The van was very comfortable and the stops were perfect for what we were looking for! Only had a short period of time and this fit the bill to introduce us to a fascinating city. We will be back!
Tania was our tour guide for a private tour of Lisbon for my husband and I. She was absolutely outstanding! Would highly recommend this tour company!
The trip was great because of the English speaking guide Carolina. She added so much history and was entertaining.
Carolina gave our family a tour of Lisbon our first full day there on December 28th. Carolina was such a joy! We had such a wonderfal time with her, and seeing the beautiful city of Lisbon, we invited her to lunch. She picked one of her favorite places - Zé da Mouraria 2 - where we had a traditional and delicious Portuguese meal and wine. We hated when our time with Carolina came to an end. We chose Lisbon Riders because it was highly recommended by a friend, and we weren't disappointed. Thank you Lisbon Riders, and thank you Carolina!!
We had a great day with Tania, who was outstanding in sharing the charm and history of Lisbon. She had as much energy and enthusiasm at the end as she did when she met us. We had 4 couples for a 5 hour tour on a beautiful day. It was a great way to get an overview of this beautiful city. Thanks to Manuel for coordinating the booking. Very impressed with this travel company.
Tonya was TERRIFIC! We learned so much from her. She made sure she accommodated our walking limitations while seeing all of the sites listed on the tour. This is the only tour group you need to use!
Thank you for the AMAZING private tour in Lisbon! Our group of four had a great time and Tania was incredible. The area was super busy preparing for the Pope's visit but she maneuvered us around like a champ even when parking was scarce! We learned SO many interesting facts and we had such a great time that I would even book this exact tour again. I think the value for the money for the day was fantastic! Truly top notch tour!
Our guide, Tania, was incredible! She toured us all around Lisbon teaching us so much history. I could tell how much she loves Lisbon, which made us love Lisbon too!! We had a great combination of walking and driving, and we saw so much. She even gave me tips on driving and my tour of Peña Palace. I’m so grateful to Lisbon Riders for an incredible experience we will never forget!
The experience was fun and interesting from the beginning to the end. Tania was lively, informative and funny. She took us to different parts of the city where we were able to see and learn about the history of Lisbon and Portugal.
One of the best tours which we ever had. Tatyana - the guide is the best! Very knowledgeable, friendly, proactive person. Wish all our tours were with her guidance. Thank you!!! Konstantin and Larissa.
Wonderful tour. Tanya is a very informative guide. She is professional, interactive, friendly and full of knowledge about Lisbon and history of Portugal. We visited the most important sites just as mentioned in tour description. Admiring Largo do Carmo and Elevador de Santa Justa, pass by Chiado-Lisbon Baixa-Alfama, enjoying the magnificent view in Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, cross the "Golden Gate" 25 de Abril Bridge and Enjoying gorgeous view of the city and the Tagus River from Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei, then we taste the famous Pastéis de Belém before visiting wonderful architecture of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, we took some time in Torre de Belem, and finally learn history of dicovers in Padrao dos Descobrimentos. I highly recommend Lisbon Riders as your choice to wander around Lisbon! Thanks!
A fantastic tour of Lisbon with our amazing tour guide Carolina. She was extremely knowledgeable and a charming host!!
We did the Sintra and Pena palace small group tour and our driver/guide was Tania. She was brilliant. She took time to speak with everyone in our small group. We had 4 nationalities in our group and I can say no one was left out. She made it so easy and was always helpful and happy to engage and answer any questions. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. The palace of Pena was amazing, the views were unbelievable and have to be seen. No photos can really do justice. Well worth the cost and I
Excellent tour. Tonya was super. Professional, interactive, friendly and full of knowledge about her beautiful city, Lisbon. Saw the most important sites. Learned about Portugal’s and especially Lisbons history. My wife and I had been to Lisbon before and we found this to be our best tour! Thanks. Will return.
We had the best time with Tania. Her knowledge of historical events was extremely helpful. She took her time and was very patient with our questions. Her enthusiasm and love of Lisboa made for a fun day. Highly recommend any tour with Tania.
Carolina, our guide was amazing, our tour was so enlightening, thanks Viator! We learned a lot, saw and lot and were able to plan the rest of our visit.
Fabulous 5 hour tour. Guide was very informative and a great driver as well. Would recommend to all if you have the time. The "golden view", Cristo Rei, Golden Gate Bridge, were just a few of the many highlights
Our tour guide Tanya was the best tour guide for getting acclimated to Lisbon. She even gave us additional advise as where to places to shop and eat. I highly recommend this tour for first travelers to Lisbon. Dr. Luisa Bowman
Carolina is a great tour guide, very knowledgeable, and generous in sharing her cultural and historical knowledge of Lisbon, the city she calls home. My son & I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and appreciated her dedication and kindness.. We highly recommend Lisbon Small Group Tour.
Carolina was an awesome tour guide, very informative. We started near Carmo and the Santa Justa lift, and learned a lot about the history in the area. Then we got to cross the 25th of April bridge to see the statue of Christ, which was fascinating! But my favorite part was going to Belèm after than for the best Pastel de Nata I’ve had. The tower and monument are cool too! I highly recommend this tour.
Wonderful tour. Great tour guide. I highly recommend this small group tour. Small and intimate with a guide that really knows the history, customs and all related information. Loved this tour, great value!!
The trip was well worth time Pick up location was easy to find Tania is a very knowledgeable guide and shared a lot of tips about the city, things to do and local customs We saw all the important sites and learned about them and other places we should see on our own
Our guide, Tania, was wonderful, knowledgeable and lotS of fun. She had so much enthusiasm, historical knowledge and a great story teller. Perfect amount of time to get an overview on our first day. Would highly recommend.
The most comprehensive 5 hour tour of Lisboa sites and neighborhoods. Carolina provided historical and social background of all areas and frequently added stories as she is from Lisboa. Great driving and conversing while getting from stop to stop. Open to all questions. Great bringing all 8 guests into the adventure. Allowed us to see the big Lisboa picture so we could plan the next few days itineraries. Carolina is at the top of the list for our private or group tours over 30 years of international travel!
My tour guide was Carolina and she was excellent. She is knowledgeable about the culture and history while also being engaging. She answered any questions I had and also gave tips about dining options in the city. The itinerary was followed as published and it was very good as it covered almost all parts of Lisbon. I loved the pastries at Belem shop, the view from Graca and the stroll through Chiado. I think the tour went very well given the traffic situation and also one group didn't bother turning up. Many thanks to Lisbon Riders for not cancelling the booking and also making changes to drop me off at the railway station. This tour is very highly recommended for any first timers to Lisbon.
This was an amazing and comprehensive insight into Lisbon and Portugal's history. Our guide, Tania, was charming, intelligent, knowledgeable and great fun. Her enthusiasm and historical knowledge meant that we really began to understand Portugal and Lisbon. I believe she went beyond what would normally be expected of a guide to give us a memorable six hours. I would highly recommend this tour it is worth every Euro of the cost
This was the best way to get an introduction to Lisbon and dip our toes into Portuguese history. Our guide, Tania, was charming, intelligent, knowledgeable and great fun. Her enthusiasm and historical knowledge meant that we really began to understand Portugal and Lisbon. I believe she went beyond what would normally be expected of a guide. This tour is essential foe first time visitors to Lisbon, Highly reccommended
I really enjoyed this tour with Tania - it was more like being shown around by a friend. Learnt lots about the history of Lisbon and Portugal. Tania is very knowledgeable. Would really recommend this tour.
We loved it. Lisbon is beautiful, the tour was amasing. The tour guide was great, learned a lot. Recomend!!!!
We did the sesimbra and arribada wine tasting tour. We did s private tour so 1/2 our group could do kayaking, while the other half explored the castle snd church in sesimbra. We then all went and enjoyed the scenery and wine tasting. We arranged the the kayaking through "our roots". We had a great day, snd communication with both companies was superb
Great trip of Lisbon, our tour guide Tania was amazing - so knowledgable of the city and personable. And during Covid, the tour was organised really well - social distancing and masks were mandatory. I would highly recommend this tour if you’ve never been to Lisbon before!
This was our first tour we took when we got to Portugal, and it gave us a basis for knowing the in and outs of Lisbon. Our guide Nuno was very knowledgeable and friendly, and we went around to so many of the highlights as well as the hidden gems of the city. The several places we stopped with various views overlooking Lisbon were amazing, as well as the trip to Pasteis de Belem. This tour is a must for anyone arriving to Lisbon!
Theresa was a superb guide. I think we saw everything that had to be seen in Lisbon on this tour. I would highly recommend it.
By far one of the best tours we ever had! We had the chance to be the only couple to this tour with our wonderful guide Rita! We had an unforgettable « private » tour experience to discover the wonders of Lisbon with such a nice, energetic and full of knowledge guide and to taste the so delicious and famous pasteis de Belem ( included in the tour price!) Thank you do much Rita for such a wonderful experience of Lisbon with you!!!
Rita was excellent. Me my wife and daughter were picked up on time and had a wonderful time going to all the spots on the tour. Did I say that Rita was excellent!! She took the time to fully explain all the point of interest and made sure all our questions were answered. We never felt rushed during the tour. Rita's knowledge and enthusiasm of Lisbon and Portugal was really evident. It's hard to say what our favorite portion of the tour was because each stop was different and unique. The views of Lisbon were dramatic. Did I say that Rita was awesome!!!!!! We could not have found a better way to get a great perspective of Lisbon and after the tour knew other places we needed to visit.
Wonderful day! We were the only two people on the tour (it was the off season and early in the week). Carolina was such a nice, fun person. We learned so much, and laughed all day long. Definitely a highlight of the trip!
Excellent tour with a lovely guide. Carolina was knowledgeable, accommodating, and so warm and friendly that the tour felt more like a visit with a friend than a "service". Could not have asked for a better introduction to the city!
We were very lucky to end up getting basically a private tour for our group. Our tour guide Carolina was absolutely delightful! She was knowledgeable, accommodating, incredibly warm and friendly, and seeing the city with her felt like visiting a dear friend! Wonderful tour gave an overview of the city and made for many opportunities of lovely panoramas.
We took a Lisbon tour with Nuno a very kind & professional guide. Also the car was very comfortable , A wonderful day in Lisbon!!
Our 1/2 day tour started with a pick up direct from our hotel - a definite plus. Our driver/guide, Ricardo, was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his city and its history and spoke excellent English. The pace of the tour was a little slow at times, and this was subsequently explained by the fact that the tour duration was planned to be 6 hours rather than the four advertised. Ordinarily, this would have been a bonus, but we had to leave by 2pm and as a result, ended up taxiing back to collect our car. Definitely worth checking the plans early in the tour! Our fellow travellers also sat out some of the walking elements of which there were more than expected. We highly recommend this tour as a first orientation of the city - it takes in all the main areas and viewing points. Just ensure that the timings are as advertised early in the programme.
