We had a great experience with our tour guide Ruiz. He was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with.

Our guide, John, was absolutely the best. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, a fantastic driver, and so much fun to spend the day with. As a local, he took us to spots off the usual tourist track, shared great stories, and gave us so much history. Lunch was at a fantastic restaurant, and they even showed us their wine cellar and some of the behind‑the‑scenes areas. An unforgettable experience.
We had a great time with João. Very friendly and went out of his way to be sure we saw the best sights. He was punctual, knowledgeable and informative. Highly recommend him to anyone.
Rui was wonderful, helpful and friendly. He did a good job explaining the sites we were visiting. He was prompt.
An excellent private tour. Rui, our guide, was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We learned so much about the Alentajo region and about the sites we visited.
We had a really great tour with Gui to Evora and Monsaraz. Gui has done a lot of reading on Portuguese history and so was able to share lots of anecdotes about everything we saw. He was willing to entertain our questions on culture and the drive really went quickly because we had good conversations with him on a wide range of topics.
Miguel, gave a very informative and personal tour including calling ahead to reserve for lunch. He is a great guide and we had a wonderful time
This was a great tour of two beautiful towns full of history and wonderful things to explore. Évora is lovely and extremely walkable, the chaple of bones is a must see. Monsaraz was so unique and beautiful. Also walkable but not level ground so can be steep and slippery. Our guide Gui was great and made the tour lots of fun. Highly recommend.
Joao was exceptional! He tailored the tour around us as people and really took into account our personalities and interests. He was super knowledgeable and entertaining. We really enjoyed everything about our tour. And the recommendations he made for our post tour activities were amazing as well. Would highly recommend.
Great trip - Miguel was fabulous guide - very knowledgable - lots of great history which we loved - both towns are so beautiful. If you want to visit two unique historical towns, we would recommend this trip.
Joao was an outstanding guide! We loved his energy and personality. You can tell he really enjoys his job. He was full of recommendations and fun facts. He really listened to us and let us set the pace of our tour. It was such a wonderful experience. I highly recommend taking a tour with him.
We had a great trip with Rui to Evora and Monsaraz. Great beautiful, historical, unique places with very knowledgeable, friendly Rui. Rui arranged delicious lunch in a very unique restaurant. Great memories. Highly recommended.
Our private tour for 4 was quite nice. Joao did a great job giving us details about the area, the buildings we were seeing, and even about the local agriculture. I would definitely book another tour with him. Beyond his knowledge, he was also courteous, picking us up from our hotel, getting the car ready for us during the hot temperatures and sending a written guide for the rest of our time in Portugal. (Tour was in English).
We had an absolutely fantastic tour to Monsaraz and Évora today, and it exceeded all of our expectations. Rui was an amazing guide—punctual, incredibly knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to talk to throughout the day. He shared so much interesting history and local insight while keeping the tour engaging and enjoyable. I wasn’t feeling my best because of the current intense heat wave in Portugal, and Rui was exceptionally thoughtful and attentive. He made sure we took plenty of breaks, helped us stay in the shade whenever possible, checked in regularly to see how I was doing, and made sure I always had enough water. His kindness and consideration made a huge difference and allowed me to enjoy the day despite the heat. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better experience exploring the beautiful towns of Monsaraz and Évora. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Portugal. Thank you, Rui, for making it such a memorable day!
Beautiful views and relaxing experience not far from Lisbon as a day trip from Lisbon. Our guide Rui was amazing. Very polite, courteous and professional. If you want an amazing experience request for Rui.
Joao is an excellent tour guide. We really had a marvelous time in this tour. Joao is very knowledgeable about Portugal History, and we shared family talking. Thank you very much for your help Joao. Sincerely: Alberto and Maria.
Gui was our driver and guide. We had great conversations and learned a lot of Portugese history during the drive. We had enough time at each place that we didn't feel rushed, and it was a good way for us to see a bit of the country beyond Lisbon. The views from Monsaraz are spectacular.
Visited the beautiful town of Evora. Really enjoyed the Chapel of Bones. Monsaraz was gorgeous with stunning views. Fabulous lunch. Great day all round.
This was a wonderful tour. I especially enjoyed the town of Monsaraz. My guide, Rui, was fantastic. He was very accommodating with my interests and was knowledgeable in all aspects of the tour. I would definitely book another tour with Rui.
Evora and Monsaraz is a travel back in time centuries to imagine and experience if only a bit of life then. It's amazing to see how these villages have existed for so many centuries. Our tour guide Rui was very knowledgeable of the area and was able to tell us of its history and how residents live nowadays. My mother uses a walker and Rui was very helpful in making the experience as easy as possible for her.
Guide was extremely knowledgeable about both Evora and Monsaraz. He gave us detailed explanations of the history as well as interesting fun facts and cultural highlights. We highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for the uniquely Portuguese perspective.
Well-organized, smooth day trip. Joao was knowledgeable, pace felt right, and Monsaraz views were a highlight. Went with friends—definitely worth it if you want an easy trip from Lisbon.
Great tour of 2 beautiful towns. Our guide Gui was very knowledgeable and fun to spend a day with. It s long day and drive but worth it
My husband and I went on a private tour and our host was Joao. He was very personable and we enjoyed the experience very much! We never felt rushed and he explained everything very well. He gave us a lot of information but also gave us great conversation not even related to the tour during the car ride. I had injured my knee the night before and the pharmacies around us were closed at the time our ride started. Joao was so kind to find a pharmacy on the way to our first stop so that I could buy a knee sleeve/brace. It made a world of difference! The tour itself was exactly as described and we had a lot of fun taking pictures and learning about the history. We highly recommend this tour!!
Loved this excursion! Rui was a fabulous guide. We spent the perfect amount of time in both cities. We had a lovely lunch in Monseraz and free time to explore the charming walled city and then enjoyed the multiple features of Evora including the ruins and the various churches (with a stop for yummy gelato along the way). Definitely 5 stars - highly recommend both the tour and Rui!
Gui was a great guide and provided a lot of information on the sites visited. Lunch recommendation in Monsaraz was delicious. Even though it was a long day (9 hours) Gui kept it interesting.
Momsaraz is worth the two hours to get there. Our driver, Rui, picked up at our Airbnb which was great. He gave us a lot of interesting historical information which we like. We saw beautiful vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards and cork forests. We felt we had the place to ourselves. No one was there. The sun was shining. We climbed the castle walls and saw an amazing view. We had a fantastic lunch at Taverna Os Templarios. The view and the food were amazing! Then we drove to Évora which is a world heritage site. It is beautiful. However, it was raining and cold and some in our group were tired so we didn’t get to enjoy much. Probably if the weather had been nice it would have been a different story. Rui dropped us off at our Airbnb which was great!
Evora was nice, but Monsaraz has breathtaking views. It is a far way from Lisbon, just to keep in mind, views amazing just being so far and enjoying other small cities more that Evora is why the 4 stars. The tour was seamless, picked up and dropped off at our hotel was great. Drive kind and friendly.
João was our tour guide and he absolutely killed it. Got picked up on time and as we drove out of the city toward Évora and Monsaraz, he told us about the history, agriculture, and significance of each place we stopped. He thought up more about cork, almonds, and castles, as well as traditions of old, showed us important significant landmarks, and gave us time to reflect. Also, thanks for providing us with great weather. Couldn’t ask for a better guide.
Joao our guide was wonderful and made our trip a really excellent experience. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing with us. We were traveling with two very small kids and everything went smoothly. Our older two kids had a great time and learned a lot. Would highly recommend!
It is a all day trip but the countryside is just amazing. If you are in medieval history, don’t miss this. The cherry on top was João - he is extremely knowledgeable and told us everything that made this trip complete. If you book this trip, ask for João and thank me later.
We had a fabulous day with Rui at the medieval hilltop town of Monsaraz with its cobblestone roads, ancient fortification walls, watchtower and beautifully restored church. Rui explained everything to us - even the Portuguese bullfighting technique that takes place in the castle bullring once a year. There are great views across the lake to the Spanish border. Then on to Evora (Rui is an excellent driver) to explore the ancient Roman temple, nearby massive Gothic cathedral and the interesting but creepy Chapel of Bones. Rui selected a fabulous restaurant for us where we enjoyed a tasty lunch of traditional oxtail stew with local wines and finished with a decadent chocolate cake. All in all, we highly recommend this full day tour and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get Rui as your guide - he’s informative, patient, friendly and very considerate.
We had an incredible day with our guide, Rui. He arrived right on time—actually a few minutes early—and from the start, he was professional, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. It was just me and my wife in a very comfortable van, and Rui’s driving and conversation made the trip smooth and enjoyable. Our first stop was the medieval hilltop village of Monsaraz, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The village sits high above the Alentejo plains, with 360-degree views that stretch all the way into Spain. The cobblestone streets, whitewashed homes, and quiet atmosphere made it feel like we’d stepped back in time. We were lucky to visit when it wasn’t crowded—just a local school group exploring the village. Inside the fortress, we could see where they hold the running of the bulls and the bullfights at the end of the festival. Standing on the castle walls, looking out over vineyards, olive groves, and cork trees, was the highlight of the day. After Monsaraz, Rui took us to Évora for lunch. He recommended a local restaurant that turned out to be fantastic. We tried the oxtail and the famous black pork cheeks. Rui explained how the black Iberian pigs eat acorns from cork trees, which gives the meat its rich, nutty flavor. It was one of the best meals we’ve had in Portugal. In Évora, we explored the Roman Temple, which is nearly 2,000 years old, and the Cathedral, where you can climb to the rooftop for incredible views of the city. We also visited the Chapel of Bones, which was fascinating, eerie, and deeply moving. Rui shared the stories and history behind each site, and his knowledge made the experience come alive. It is a long drive—about an hour and a half each way—but it’s a beautiful one, passing through vineyards, olive trees, almond trees, and cork oak forests. Getting out of Lisbon and seeing the Alentejo countryside was well worth the time. Overall, this was one of the best days of our entire trip. The private tour was comfortable, informative, and perfectly paced. Rui was an amazing guide, and we can’t recommend him highly enough. If you’re considering a day trip from Lisbon, this one should be at the top of your list.
Évora, wine tasting, Monseraz and Chapel of Bones private tour was spectacular. We almost missed doing this and we were so glad we didn’t, our guide was awesome as well!
A wonderful day out of Lisbon to see the very impressive destinations of Evora and Monsaraz. Rui was an amazing guide, and we enjoyed the day immensely.
Rui was an exceptional guide with a wealth of knowledge in history, food and culture. He answered our many questions, accommodated our stop for ceramic shopping and his attention to detail was fantastic (even having the ac prepared for us in the car during a hot day). This tour with Rui was the highlight of our trip to Portugal.
João was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was an excellent tour guide and we enjoyed spending the day with him. He went beyond the call of duty.
Great day out exploring these two places. It was a bit of a long drive to Monsaraz but our guide Rui was very accommodating and flexible to our needs. He was very informative and made sure we had a great time. 5 stars!
Excellent! Both the tour and the tour guide were great. Definitely recommend it. All stops were amazing.
This is a little far from Lisbon but worth the trip. Wandering the medieval streets was like being in another world. Very glad that we took this tour.
This was an outstanding tour that we would highly recommend. Gui was extremely knowledgeable with a contagious passion for Portuguese history. Not only did he come with a wealth of background and stories, he was open to answering any questions we had.
Wonderful experience with Joao touring Monsaraz and Evora. We enjoyed the drive through the countryside and learning about the history of the region and the agriculture (cork, olives, almonds, wheat). Monsaraz is a charming little walled village overlooking the lake with shops selling local products. Joao recommended a fabulous restaurant in Evora and guided us through the town pointing out details that we would have otherwise missed. It is worthwhile to climb the steps to the roof of the cathedral and to visit all levels of the chapel of bones museum to view the nativity sets and artwork.
We had a fantastic tour of Monsaraz and Evora with Joao and Rudi. Do to the number of people in our tour, they provided two vans so that we could travel comfortably. They picked us up right on time and dropped us off later at restaurant where we had reservations. Joao was particularly helpful in his descriptions of the history and agriculture of eastern Portugal. Much more than your average guide. Rudi explained the history of the Capela dos Osso in Evora. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see more of Portugal.
Juan was very knowledgeable of EVERYTHING! All questions were promptly answered; from nature to history. Never in a rush.
We had a wonderful private tour to Evora and Monsaraz with Rui as our driver. He was very knowledgeable of the cities and their history. We were never rushed and he always made sure we drank plenty of water since it was a very hot day. It was very impressive to see the Chapel of bones! The city of Evora is beautiful and there Rui reserved for a us a delicious authentic Portuguese lunch. Delicious!!! The medieval town of Monsaraz was outstanding also!! We highly recommend this tour and if you have Rui as your guide you will definitely learn a lot!!!
GUI was a very knowledgeable in the history of the sites we saw, went out of his way to show us cork and almond trees. I would highly recommend him if you want to take this tour.
We had a wonderful trip to Evora and Monsaraz! Gui was a fabulous guide and felt like a family member by the end of the day. We highly recommend this tour with Gui. We learned a lot and laughed so much throughout the day. It was a perfect day!
Very enjoyable non rushed tour of Évora and Monsaraz. Saw the church of bones. was expecting a terror show but it turned out to be quite a contemplating moment and not a horror after all. Saw the Temple of Dianna. Saw the site of Monsaraz. Our guide and driver Gui was knowledgeable and personable.
This tour goes to some of the most beautiful places in Portugal. We saw and learned about historical places that were very interesting. However, the views from these sites was drop dead gorgeous. We loved our tour guides Alejandro and Miguel. They were fun to tour with.
João made our trip to Evora and Monsaraz an unforgettable one. He was so nice and useful. He gave us excellent recommendations and his knowledge of the history of these places made our experience a great one.
