While beautiful first half of the ride is on narrow streets with tons of traffic. Windy uphill road with lots of buses and cars. In Sintra be prepared to walk the bike up a steep hill with tons of pedestrians. If you choose to go to western most point in Europe its all downhill. Be prepared for a lofty climb out. Then you'll be cycling quite some time on a busy highway. The only cyclist i saw were a few pro- cyclist. Bike top power mode is Sport, not turbo like most Ebikes. Once in Cascais it gets better. I wouldn't consider this touristic ride. You will work, sweat and traffic can be very stressful.

Bikeiberia was great to work with and located just meters from the water front bike path. Bikes were in good order and we had no issues. We rode for 4 hours straight and never put a dent in the battery reserves.
Unsafe route! Traffic! Took half hour to get started due to bike mechanical issue. Then heading to train a challenge thru city traffic. Upon arrival at Sintra it was clearly NOT bike friendly. When we finally mounted bikes - 2 1/2 hr into journey - we felt horribly unsafe, riding on windy narrow roads with traffic buzzing by. Very unsafe. The route ended with a bike path - finally - for last 20% of ride. By then we were so frazzled by near death traffic encounters that we couldn’t enjoy it. Don’t do this unless you are ok riding on roads close to cars. This is NOT a bike path route. Bikes also not the best. We rented several southern Europe e-bikes. All good condition except these. Cannot recommend this tour. Simply did not feel safe riding this route and we are experienced bikers.
This was an amazing experience with a great ride from Sintra to Cascais through a national forest and then along the coast to Cascais. We were glad we were on e-bikes because it's quite a steep climb! The way this works is that you get the bikes at the rental location at Cais do Sodre, then catch a train to Sintra (which turned out to be pretty easy to do). Then we walked our bikes through Sintra since it was overflowing with tourists. But then we got onto the path out of town and, from then on, it was great. You catch the train again in Cascais. I recommend getting to the rental place at the first possible moment because, if you want to make any stops, there isn't a lot of extra time to make it back before the rental shop closes. Recommended stops include: Don Quixote for lunch and Cabo da Roca, the most western point of Portugal.
Fantastic day - I thoroughly enjoyed it. FYI - trains leave for Sintra on the hour and trains back from Cascais take 45 mins.
The GPS app they have you download is terrible. Ride a bike through Sintra? Walk your bike up the narrow, crowded hills? What a joke. The guy who set us up told us it wouldn’t be crowded - just get off the bikes and walk. Yeah, ok! Fairly certain he has never done the self guided tour himself. No real guidance regarding the trains we had to take. Fine. We figure it out, but it would be helpful information. Overall, a failure. After walking our bikes up part of the crowded, narrow street in Sintra we turned around. It wasn’t worth it. People (tourists and locals alike) either laughed at us or made rude comments. I promise you, it’s not worth it.
The ride was incredible. The staff was fantastic and provided everything I needed for the day, including the app that allowed me to track my path and progress. The train ride to Sintra was efficient and the town was really cute. The ride was breathtaking and peaceful. It helped to have the e bike for some of the hills. Cascais was amazing and the beaches were gorgeous. Can’t wait to go back! I encourage this particular tour guide group and they were so helpful and reassuring. I was traveling solo and it can be intimidating to do a day trip alone in a foreign land. They made it very accommodating.
Very nice, reliable and helpful staff. Punctual, patient and faultless service. Worth the price. Thank you for your true kindness guys.
You have to be a confident cyclist to enjoy this trip. The Sat Nav is something you have to trust your intuition with. I arrived at 9.30, and the instructions I was given were very clear. Arrive early to get away early. You catch the train from Lisbon with the bike - you need to be strong enough to lift the bike - it’s heavy. The route is absolutely stunning - I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys scenic cycling, you certainly need an e bike unless you are super fit!
We had issues with the GPS. It was not a turn-by-turn modern apparatus, but a map with a colored outline that was very hard to read.
Excellent service and good advise on our bike trip to Cascais. We used E-bikes, they worked well and charging remained in a good level also after some 50 km cycling.
Bikes was in good technical condition. Very friendly staff. Excelent expirence. This is a great way to see Lisbon.
A cool way to see the sites! Get a little exercise while you it! Nice people to deal with, very accommodating even when we arrived late.
Great place to hire bikes i Lisbon . We hired E Bikes , our first taste a E Bikes . As experienced cyclist we had great fun and covered many more miles and "hills" then if on a normal bike.
This is a great way to see Lisbon and Sintra. For the slightly adventurous. Well maintained bikes. Very friendly and helpful staff
What a GREAT day! The Bikeiberia team did everything but hold our hands on this adventure. Anyone with a bit of GPS knowledge can make this one happen. Now......if they include a voice tape with a little history or adventure options....wow! It was better then I expected just as it is. Great Job TEAM BIKEIBERIA!!
Rented bikes from bike iberia for a three day cycle trip. Not very helpful in suggesting routes. When I asked the girl to recommend suitable cycle routes, she sighed and said she would need two hours to set out a route and that they dont really provide tht service to people who are just renting bikes and not getting the self guided tour. She then reluctantly suggested some routes which turned out to be for the most part traffic heavy main roads. My friend rented her bike from the other place in Sintra, and they were far better providing us with free maps and recommending quiet secondary roads to cycle on for our last day. Also bike iberia didn't screw the handle bars of my bike in properly so for the first day, I couldn't control my bike properly, very scary experience and when I complained about this they just shrugged and said oh yeah it's a new bike. Other then that the bikes were fine.
Friendly uncomplicated staff, good advice, tips for interesting tours. Bicycles are in good condition
This is not a private tour, but a self-guided tour by satellite GPS. The bikes are great, but work great! The tour could be done from your phone (Google map) We highly recommend doing sintra cascais by bike! This is the most beautiful bike ride you've ever made. Electrical assistance is really appreciated when climbing to pena Don't include entries. Included train ticket (less than 5 EUR). If you have the opportunity to only rent bikes from lisbonne, this is the ideal day of adventure
We rented two bikes and a children's cart for 4 hours and we were able to enjoy a superb ride along the Tagus to Belem Prices are reasonable The bikes work great We had two normal non-electric bikes A big thank you to the person who welcomed us and advised us with great professionalism and kindness. I recommend this rental company for your walks with or without children
In the good parts, the walk is fantastic! The landscapes, the smells, etc.... but this was the walk that I had the most things to worry about. First of all the quality of the bicycles, of all I've rented for tours these were the best. During the road the current fell at least eight times, the bike was stabbing when pedaling and the bike itself had the appearance of someone who had already suffered a lot. I already rented bicycles in Switzerland, Canada, the Netherlands, and it didn't look like a serious Service bike... In addition the route has 2 stretches that I found quite risky (mainly of you intends to make the way just as I did) the exit in Sintra, many very inclined streets, both to go up and down, even being with an electric bike I had to get off the bike and walk with it pq the chance of falling with the bike was very big. Especially the day I rented the bike was raining, I would never walk those streets if the GPS wasn't indicating them. Further forward, closer to arrival, we have a coastal road, of relatively intense traffic with strong windstorms, again I felt in danger that a windstorm would overthrow me or throw me over some car. I do not recommend this trip beginners.
It was our first experience in electric bike, we loved it! 45km between Sintra and Cascais, and not a curve! The landscapes crossed are beautiful, the bike path along the ocean, is a pure wonder... a very good memory! Thanks to the whole team, you are on top! Valerie and Thierry
No sales pitches to talk into a guided tour. Less good explanation about use of bicycle; short and concise. In case of problems always reachable by phone: flat tire after stop for lunch, after several attempts to inflate still have to stick on the ferry towards drop-off point. Harder cycling from the start with this bike... Only driven on paved roads... Was unclear where tire could have been blown. Initially thought of joke of kids who had let go of band...
