Our trip was amazing! Joao what’s the best? He was an amazing teacher, safe driver and an incredible guide for our wine tour. We sampled wines from a small (handpicked grapes)winery and then a larger winery with a factory production. Both wineries were excellent. We got a great tour in both areas and sampled 12 different wines along the way! Joao took us to a local restaurant that served the freshest fish we’ve had in a very long time grilled to perfection and we sampled the green wine of the region, which was also very very tasty.! We learned about the countryside, the country of Portugal and about Lisbon from Joao and the wine makers. Highly recommend the tour if you want a great sample of the wines of the region.

Beginning the tour with a visit to the beautiful vineyards and learn about the different wine varieties spreading along the hills and it's individual characteristics. Afterwards you are going to learn about the process of making the wine and the magic happens in the Temple room, where the wine rests in wood barrels. Last but not least you are going to taste four wines (Two red and Two white) and be inebriated with it's characteristics.
After the first wine experience at the magnificent Adega Mae, and because is lunch time we will lunch in a nearby typical restaurant, specialized in grilled sea food, for sure, it will be one fof the best food experiences of your whole trip. (Prices betwen 10-20 €/pp)
After lunch, we have a 30 min ride to the little village of Cheleiros, where we are going to visit our second winery of the day. Starting the visit with the history of the village and the importance of this wine project in this small comunity, after we continue with the wine process and finish at the barrels room (an ancient reconverted school). We finish with the tasting of 6 wines (3 reds and 3 whites) including the single variety Jampal, a unique grape in Portugal and in the world. The tasting is paired with home made bread and olive oil. We finish the visit with a little walk around the village and visiting the medieval bridge of Cheleiros, built upon an old roman bridge.
The biggest and more impressive baroque palace in Portugal, built by D. João V in the 18th century. An impressive sight, out of the touristic mainstream.

This private tour with João was hands down the highlight of our entire Portugal trip! From the moment he picked us up at our hotel, we knew we were in for something special. João’s knowledge of Portuguese history and culture and Sintra’s particularly unique history and architecture was incredible, but what really set him apart was his genuine passion and patience for our questions and wide range of family interests. He didn’t just recite facts, he brought every story to life. Quinta da Regaleira was like stepping into a fairy tale. The mystical gardens, the enigmatic Initiation Well, and the hidden tunnels were absolutely mesmerizing. João knew all the best spots for photos and gave us plenty of time to explore. Having the entrance fees already sorted meant we could just relax and enjoy without any hassle. Monserrate Palace was equally stunning and those exotic gardens and Moorish architecture took our breath away. It was less crowded than some of the other palaces, which made the experience feel even more intimate and special. The lunch stop in Cascais followed by ice cream and the beach was the perfect way to wind down. The seaside setting was gorgeous, and João recommended a fantastic local restaurant where we had the freshest seafood. It was wonderful to relax by the ocean after a morning of exploration. This tour felt perfectly paced, wonderfully personal, and utterly unforgettable. If you’re visiting Lisbon, do yourself a favor and book this tour with João. You won’t regret it!
This is a must do Lisbon experience for anyone interested in learning about the history of Lisbon and the process of wine making. The host is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and provided great advice for the remainder of our time visiting Lisbon. The wine was excellent also!
This is the second time I’ve used Joao for a private tour. Having just finished the Camino de Santiago in Spain, we came to Portugal to recover. One of my friends wanted to see Nazare so we left Lisbon and headed north. Had a fabulous private wine tasting on the way to Nazare. Nazare was breathtaking…wandered around to see all the surfing spots from the top then drove down to the beach for a delicious lunch. If you want a great guide…he’s your man! Make sure you reach out to him ASAP as he books up fast! Thanks for another amazing day Joao ❤️
The tour was awesome, and Joao made the experience so much better. He was great to talk to and shared lots of interesting facts about the wineries we went to and wine production in general. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested. You not only get amazing wine and views, but also food and conversation!
Our guide is very personable & knowledgeable. There is water on the car ride. Both vineyard are special in their own way. We could not have had a better lunch stop - our first time to have grilled whole sea bass and sardines with sea salt & olive oil - wow- so incredibly delicious. Would recommend this tour 100%.
We had an incredible experience with Joao! He was so friendly & informative and took us to the best spots to eat (and drink). I would absolutely take a tour with him again and would highly recommend him as a guide to anyone visiting Portugal!
Joao was quite knowledgeable and tried to introduce us to the wineries as well as the communities surrounding them. It was a pleasure to visit his Portugal. We were especially pleased with the small boutique winery that he showed us. The winery staff was it was very knowledgeable and very accommodating. they were flexible and changed the wines in the tasting based upon our stated preference. All in all it was a delightful experience, and the wine was good too. Lunch was also a treat. Instead of taking us to a touristy luncheon, João It took us to a wonderful fish restaurants favored by the locals. It was out of this world! All in all cannot recommend this tour and tour guide too much.
We were fortunate enough to do both a 1/2 day Lisbon tour and a Full day wine tour with João while we were in Lisbon. We were not sure we would enjoy Lisbon as we are more nature / island lovers, but spending time with João we fell in love with Lisbon and it's surrounding areas. First, he happily changed our schedule when the airline switched our times. Second, he is so attentive to what you are interested in and creates the tour accordingly. Third, his love and passion for his city and country really make the tour special. He showed us countless places we NEVER would have found on our own, got us away from the crowds, and made us feel like friends. His connections in Lisbon were REAL obvious when we had access to places most do not. I won't give away the secrets... book a tour to find out. He even learned enough about us to find the perfect spot for us to have dinner. Literally could not have chosen a better spot. If you want to see the city or the countryside in a way that feels personal and educational, João is your guy!
I had an excellent day trip to visit the wineries Manzwine and Adegamae with the wonderful guide Joao Guadalpi. The wines were great, the tours were very interesting and I learned a lot about Portuguese wines. The food was also fantastic and they easily made dietary accommodations for me. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon who would like to learn more about local wine and culture.
Had a great day. Guide was excellent and we learned a lot about the area and the history of Portugal. Very interesting experience.
Joao is such a professional, knowledgeable, friendly and personable tour guide. We started the day with Adega Mae, a family owned winery about 40 minutes away from Lisbon city center. It’s an insanely beautiful winery with amazing architecture and state-of-the-art facility. Joao is so Knowledgeable about the wine making process and the history of the winery. He provided so much helpful information in an interesting and engaging way. After Adega Mae, we had lunch at a local Portuguese restaurant. He was very good at explaining the local cuisine and got us trying very delicious local dishes that we otherwise wouldn’t have known in the first place. We also visited a local palace after the meal and got to walk around the beautiful Mafra town. In the afternoon, we visited the second winery called Manzwine. Again, it was a very informative visit. A big shoutout to the manager (Raoul) at the Manzwine. He was so amiable and generous in offering his time and knowledge about the winery and characteristics that different Manzwine. We will for sure be ordering the wines when we get back to the States! Overall it was a very magical day. My boyfriend and I had an amazing time with Joao. He is clearly passionate about what he does and it makes a huge difference in the overall experience! We highly recommend this tour. You will not be disappointed! We can’t wait to go back to Lisbon at some point and book another tour with Joao.
We had a great day with Joao! He picked us up as scheduled, and we had an interesting and informative journey to the vineyards. When we arrived, we had a private tour and were given private access to the entire winery, and then had a fine tasting with snacks and information about the wines. We had a most delightful and delicious lunch (with wine) at a wonderful authentic local restaurant that was just great! We then when to a second winery that was very impressive as well! In addition, we had time to stop at a small town called Mafra and visited a baroque palace. Our group was only the two of us, but this was a memorable experience that we found quite enjoyable and well worth the time and expense. Good times!
Fantastic day out with João, a highlight of our trip. Had a lovely drive out through the country to a local winery, followed by a walk through the vineyards, some tasting. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Can definitely recommend it and we plan to come back again!
We loved our wine tasting tour with João! He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the Lisbon area and its wineries. He chose excellent wineries and we loved the place he took us for lunch! We did the tour on our last day in Lisbon and it was the perfect way to spend our day.
João was very personable and this tour was incredibly unique and interesting! The tour provided a mix of new and old style wine making as well as a traditional Portuguese lunch (note that lunch is not included). The wines were great and we were able to taste a few wines exclusively grown in Portugal. Overall the experience was excellent!
Joao rearranged plans to ensure we did repeat anything from a different wine tour we took and added some special touches like a worker's lunch in a small town in between our wineries. Both wineries were both historically significant and produced delicious wines. The lunch wasn't included in the tour, but at 7.50 euros for a full meal (including all the wine, coffee, etc. you can drink) there was nothing to complain about. The tour would have stood on its own merits, but Joao was a joy to be around and went the extra mile to make sure we had a good time. We even got to celebrate the local holiday with roasted chestnuts, which was a first for me.
You can enjoy not only the tastings that content you very well, but also the beautiful scenery and delicious seafoods lunch:) It was a great experience to meet nice people and to know more about wine and Portugal.
My sister and I both enjoy wine and visiting wineries, and this tour did not disappoint! Lucky for us, we were the only ones booked so we had a private tasting and tour at both AdegaMãe and Manzwine, both of which were excellent. Our day with João couldn't have been better. He was very knowledgeable about wine and the wineries visited, and was very accommodating whenever we wanted to take photos of the area. Lunch was superb! He took us to a fabulous local restaurant where we had the best grilled octopus I have ever had! Thank you João for a wonderful time. We enjoyed so much!
I can not recommend this tour enough. I went with my fiancé and we had a fabulous time. John is such an incredible tour guide as well. He’s very personable and extraordinarily knowledgeable about Portugal. You will have a blast on his tour. It’s also a small tour group, so it gives you more of a chance to get to know everyone and ask questions. Both of the wineries we visited were very interesting, although different from one another. They are very generous with the tastings they give you, as well. The restaurant John takes you to for lunch is also excellent and very reasonably priced. If you’re in Lisbon and want to book a fun day trip, definitely consider this one!!
What a great day trip!! Pick up location was easy, lunch was fabulous, the drive was beautiful through small towns and villages and the wineries and tastings were everything and more. You tour the wineries and the tastings were plentiful. Our private guide Joao, was fun, entertaining and a pleasure to spend the day with. This wine experience is a winner
During my staying in Lisbon I booked a wine tour with the visit of the Adegamae winery. João, the guide, is a very kindly and interesting person and he knows how to feel good the guests during the way and the visit of the winery. The landscape from Adegamoe is incredible, immersed in the green of the vineyard and the wines are good. Wonderful tour, wonderful people!
Would highly recommend this tour/trip, we had a fantastic day, visiting two winerys/vineyards and sampling the wine, with a stop off in a lovely little rustic Portuguese restaurant in a small village for lunch. The tour guide João is incredibly nice and was very knowledgeable about the area/wines also. Cannot recommend enough!!
During our stay in Lisbon we booked this wine tasting to understand better the world of wines in Portugal. The host Guadalpi came to Lisbon to pick up us and we went to AdegaMae winery. There we found a very good guide who showed us the company and the process to produce wine, then we tasted 5 different delicious wines. The experience was really interesting and useful, Guadalpi is a really kind talkative men passionate for his job! With him you feel safe and you can really taste the taste of portuguese culture!
João is as good a tour guide as could ever be found. He’s fun, accommodating, genuine, and just plain friendly. You won’t go wrong if you choose João as you tour guide!!!
We took a tour of Arrábida where we saw dolphins, visited the Serra da Arrábida, Forte de S. Filipe, had lunch at the gate of Arrábida and with all the access limitations, João was unbeatable to provide us with comfort and support, having left us in his comfortable carriage at the door of the restaurant. We ended the day with a visit and wine tasting at José Maria da Fonseca! Aligned with all this we have the fantastic João, which makes this experience unique!
