Visit the Knights Templar headquarter in Portugal, the Convent of Christ in Tomar. Here you will discover the centuries-old link between the Knights Templar and the Kingdom of Portugal. Visit it's original round church (Charola), built at the end of the 12th century by the first great Master of the Templars.
We made a stop in Tomar to see the Convent of Christ on our way from Porto to Lisbon and are so glad we did! It is a UNESCO world heritage site and former headquarters of the knights Templar. The building is stunning and in very good shape. Parts are under renovation but it is still worth the visit. Every bit as stunning as the monastery in Lisbon. Be sure to stop and visit
We had a fantastic time going on the Tomar, Batalha, and Alcobaca monastery tour. Our tour guide, Sandra, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of each monastery and could explain all the small details of the architecture and artwork we saw that day. She was such a wonderful person, very engaging with us, and made our experience truly fun and memorable.
We booked 3 separate tours, our guides were Sandra and Luis. Sandra for the Tomar, Batalha and Obidos tour and the Lisbon tour as well. Luis was our guide for Sintra. Both were really fun and extremely knowledgeable. We saw and learned so much more than we could have on our own. I HIGHLY recommend No Map Tours.

Sandra is a very knowledgeable guide. We learned a lot about Portuguese history. The castles and monasteries are spectacular! The trip was very well organised, in a comfortable car, with all needed breaks. She picked us up at our hotel and returned us back.
We had a great time on this trip. Our guide Sandra spoke excellent English, was knowledgeable, engaging and funny. She accommodated our request for a specific lunch stop while we’re in Tomar. All the stops were beautiful, and having a guide really helped us understand what we were seeing. We came for the art history. Sandra showed us many details in the tombs and architecture that we probably would have overlooked visiting on our own. I highly recommend.

The Monasteries Tour with Sandra was amazing. She paid attention to every detail and was such a good tour guide. My favorite part of this tour was SANDRA, our guide who was as informative as a historian who had researched these sacred places and their many facets. I am descended from a number of monarchs whose sarcophagi lie at Batalaha and Alcobaca. Sandra’s tour was peppered with interesting facts and fascinating back stories that I would never have heard. She answered all of my questions and shed light on both dark and memorable events in Portuguese history. I highly recommend Sandra to anyone looking for an outstanding tour guide.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our day touring the 3 Monasteries with Sandra. We thought it would be a small group tour but since we were the only people that signed up we had a wonderful private tour (it is good to know No Map Tours does not cancel). Sandra is very knowledgeable about the locales and stories of each monastery. Most importantly, she has the rare ability to convey the information in an informal, casual, and sometimes humorous manner so we could absorb the fascinating history and architecture of each site. It was a lot to grasp in one day (nine hours), But the pace was relaxed and we never felt rushed, although one could take pictures at each place forever. After our visit to the Batalha, we had a nice lunch with a great view of the monastery across the street. Five stars for Sandra and No Map Tours.

It was very interesting tour and our guide has a lot of knowledge about places we have visited and history. Special thanks for letting us to see aqueduct near Tomar which is not in the schedule but is very close to our way.

Our family of five adults (two seniors and three adult children) went with Sandra on a private tour of the Convento di Cristo, Batalha and Alcobaca. We were really impressed and would book with No Map Tours again in a heartbeat! The private, clean and comfortable air conditioned van made for a comfortable journey. Sandra was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. Her presentations had the perfect mix of humor and interesting facts about history and art/architecture.
