Itinerary
Sintra and Cascais are small villages just outside of Lisbon, and they’re the real “must-do” tour when visiting Lisbon. Located in a beautiful protected area, the Sintra Hills are the home of some of the most beautiful Palaces and Castles.
Pena Palace is the most iconic Palace in Sintra. It is considered the most beautiful Castle in Europe, and it’s a true pleasure to walk in its Park, or just admire the views from its balconies, with Lisbon in the horizon.
Enjoy some free time to lunch and explore Sintra Village, which looks just like a postcard town. Taste the local pastries, check some souvenirs or just enjoy the ambience there.
Visit Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca), the westernmost piece of land in Europe. Free time to admire the views and take some photos!
You'll have free time to explore Cascais, its bay and the surrounding streets. The once fishing village that turned into home of kings in exile, and one of the espionage centers during World War II, Cascais is now a pleasant beach town, where people walk the streets while enjoying the sun.
Drive through the Marginal Road, always along the coast, enjoying amazing views over the ocean, first, and the Tagus River, arriving in Lisbon.

We did the all day tour, and there were 10 people in our group..we had Raphael for our tour guide and Pedro for our driver. They were both amazing at their jobs.Raphael was very knowledgeable concerning everything on the tour.He answered any questions that we had and was very personable.Pedro is definitely the driver you want to have, when it comes to navigating those narrow curvy, hilly roads.I highly recommend this tour.
Today we had a wonderful tour of Sintra! A big thank you to our amazing guide, Raphael, who made the day truly special and memorable. We had a fantastic time! Շնորհակալություն-Shnorhakalutyun!!!
Fantastic small group tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Skip the line pass to Pena Palace gardens and the Palace. A great balance between the guided part of the tour and free time in beautiful Sintra and stunning Cabo de Roca and Cascais. Would highly recommend this tour.
The tour was great and Ms Anna for 3.8.24 was all day and they took great care of us and making sure we had the full Palace experience. Then the tour to CasCais was awesome as well!
Bernardo was excellent and very accommodating. Great tour, no complaints, totally worth it! Highly recommend this tour.
This private day trip to Sintra and Cascais was fantastic. Our guide, Diego, picked us up at our airbnb on time, in a spacious comfortable car with plenty of cold water on hand. It was a hot day and we started our visit to the Peña Palace with a lovely walk through the shady gardens (an excellent choice). Diego was full of information and very fun. He has broad interests and was comfortable answering questions about just about anything. He spared us the wait on the long line and was cheerful throughout. Our lunch in town featured great food and beautiful views. Our visit to the coast (spectacular) and Cascais (worth seeing) were wonderful. All in all, lovely, interesting, and seamless day. Thanks Diego!
Ben was our guide, and he was friendly and helpful. My family appreciated his professionalism and friendliness. Very good recommendation of lunch restaurant and ice cream outlet as well 👍😃.
Our guide, John, picked us up and we drove for about 30 minutes to Sintra. He described different buildings along the way, including the Parliament Building. We stopped at a lovely look-out point where we could see Lisbon. We then went to Pena Palace and did a guided walk through the gardens with John which took about 30 minutes. John explained the royal history and the architecture – he is very knowledgeable. We did an independent tour of the Palace and skipped the long lines since we had a group booking. John met us at the end of the palace tour. The palace is quite colourful and fairy-tale like outside. John took us to some of the terraces and showed us an interesting gargoyle at the entrance to the cathedral courtyard. He then took us to the chapel with a beautiful stain glass window. We walked the walls and saw the Moorish castle from afar. John dropped us off in the historic center of Sintra so we could walk around, grab lunch and then go to Quinta da Regaleira. We walked 15 minutes to Quinta da Regaleira. We had purchased tickets on line so we did not have to wait in the long line up – we walked right up to the door and went in. In Quinta da Regaleira we saw the amazing Initiation Well and the series of caves which lead to grottos with a small waterfall. We missed our connection with John and he had to drive around the block again since he could not stop so we had time to see Regaleira Chapel. When John picked us up and we told him that we did not have time for pastries, he offered to drop us off in the historic center again to pick up pastries and use the washroom. I suggested to John that he didn’t have to do the rest of the tour since we were late but he insisted. We drove us about 20 minutes to Caba da Roca which is the westernmost point of mainland Europe. There is a lighthouse and a view point. We then drove along the coast to a town called Cascais. We saw many castles and beaches along the way. When we arrived in Cascais, John dropped us off for 45 minutes to have ice cream and walk around the beach area. John was so patient and kind - it was clear that he really cared about his tour and ensuring his guests had a great time.
Great tour, scenery and historical education about Sintra and Calcais. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the areas and the history. It was the tour of our trip thus far
The guide was very knowledgeable and personable . He made numerous interesting observations. Time was not a factor to him showing us various things not on the agenda
Loved Sintra, Cascais and seeing Boca do Cabo. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend.
Philip was our guide for the day. He was excellent at give the history of Sintra & Peña Palace. This tour is a must do while in Lisbon!
Our driver was super nice and friendly. Juan was very knowledgeable and interesting as well. His car was clean and comfortable. The drive was beautiful, and he told us interesting facts about the places we drove through. We stopped at Cabo de Roca. This place was beautiful. He gave a us a small tour of it and we had great time. Our photos came out beautiful because Juan knew where to get great shots! We enjoyed our drive to Sintra. Juan was great at explaining the history of Sintra, as well as pointing out the artistic facts about the it as well. He made our trip very enjoyable and we highly recommend this tour.
We had a great tour with our guide Nuno. He showed up on time, picked us up at our hotel. Nuno was VERY knowledgeable. He gave us tons of information and interesting stories. He was very flexible with the tour. There was a long line for the Castle and he went out of his way to contact the office and get us tickets so we didn’t have to wait. The castle was not part of the tour but my son wanted to see the castle and Nuno made it happen. I highly recommend booking a tour with Nuno. You won’t be disappointed.
We absolutely enjoyed this tour! Our driver/tour guide Gustavo was very good and knowledgeable. He was funny and engaging. He showed us points of interests on our way to Cascais. We had a stop at Estoril and heard about the inspiration for the James Bond movies. Cabo da Roca was beautiful. Our guide made some suggestions on where we can have lunch but it was completely up to us. We did not feel forced to go with the suggestions. We enjoyed our time in Sintra and the Pena Palace. I highly recommend this tour. Be prepared and wear good walking shoes. You will not be disappointed
We had 15.5 hours layover in Lisbon, so we decided to use our time wisely. We bought our tix online. The company responded to all our emailed questions super quickly! Our tour guide was Anna, and she did an excellent job of executing the wonders of Lisbon and was fun to be around1 The tickets to the Pena Palace were included with the price of the tour as well! We highly recommend this tour, and we will definitely consider on touring with this company again!
I highly recommend visiting Sintra and Cascais while in Lisbon. They offered a nice alternative to the hustle of Lisbon's city feel. The private tour was great and our guide was wonderful!
Thank you Rita for a terrific first day in Lisbon. We enjoyed Sintra, and Cashish. Beautiful coastline, and your knowledge and friendliness are a perfect combination.
Rota was our guide and she was so friendly sweet and knowledgeable Took us to some beautiful sights, and made our day very enjoyable. This was a great private tour, And the best way to see Sintra and Cascais. Don’t miss this beauty!
I’m so glad I booked this tour. My tour guide was a lovely young lady named Rita. Excellent guide, very informative and friendly. We saw some beautiful sights and learned a lot on our excursion.
First things first - wear good shoes/trainers for walking (wouldn't recommend sandals!) Our trip was booked via Expedia just 2 days in advance and we managed to get the last 2 spaces of an 8-person tour. Our guide Rita met us outside our Hotel at 9am as advertised, and we headed towards Cascais (lots of good commentary and history from Rita along the way). Cascais is a lovely fishing port (city) with beautiful beaches and pretty boutiques and streets. The Citadel Art District itself is lovely to just wander around. Next stop Cabo da Roca - good pics of the rugged coastline, lighthouse, and monument, following which we went to Sintra City for lunch (go further up the steep hill to Tascantiga for delicious Portuguese tapas in a rustic setting). Traffic up to the Palace was extremely busy however Rita knew the best spots for parking! From the main entrance its a good 15min walk up the garden paths (steep steps), however, there's a bus available for those with mobility challenges (with long queue). Some spectacular views from the Palace to Sintra and the Moorish Castle. The £49 each we paid covered the 14Euro entrance into the Palace, so overall this trip was really good value for a full day out and for visiting places we would not have otherwise seen. Rita was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and looked after us well (inc a passenger with knee pain). Our schedule would have had us returning to Lisbon from 16.15 however with the traffic delays etc Rita kindly gave us more time at the Palace and we were back in Central Lisbon by 18.00. Great day out - highly recommended, and thank you to Rita for making it all the more enjoyable!
In our family trip (adults only), we stayed in Alfama-Lisbon. Our driver-guide guy Paulo was on time for our pickup. he was very friendly, got us engage in our early morning by giving us feedback of lisbon city and what to expect. We headed to our first stop and decided to make it quick since we wanted to have plenty of time in Sintra. Best decision made! Sintra is an enchanting place, Pena Palace is a must visit place, Quinta da Regaleira dont miss on that! We had lunch in a cafe bistro inside Sintra and walked around in the small town (paulo gave us a few recommendations of where to have lunch and DESSERT!). We headed to Cascais, passed by Cabo da Roca and Estoril. Paulo was a great help at all times and reachable by phone, he gave himself a plus when we wanted in our way back to visit Belem and he dropped us there! Great guy.
Our private group/family tour was excellent from start to finish. Communication and planning with Gil and execution of the tour by our driver/guide Phillip all exceeded expectations. Special needs of group members and changing circumstances on the day of the tour were dealt with in the most pleasant and professional manner. Apart from the safe and secure driving Phillip provided us with loads of interesting cultural and historical facts and fun options and suggestions throughout the day. Entire family from toddler to 70+ year had a wonderful experience getting to know Sintra and Cascais this way and we would highly recommend this company in the future.

This was a great tour. Our guide was extremely fluent in English so we did not have any problem communicating and understanding. He even recommended us great pastries to buy in Sintra. The tour is well planned, giving you time to see the locations without any hurry.

We were a group of 11 people. We had Mike and Phillipe as our guides. Both spoke fluent English and had great knowledge about the places we visited. Did not dwell too much on history so that kids don't get bored. But told wonderful stories to engage the kids so that kids enjoyed their day. Also were open to answering questions about Lisbon and Portugese cultures and cuisines. They helped in locating and took a small de-tour to McDonalds for the kids. Told us about best pastry and cakes shops around the place. Had a wonderful experience at Cascais and Sintra.
We arranged for two full day, private tours with Around Lisbon. Both were just what we'd hoped they'd be. This review will focus primarily on the day at Sintra, but note that the other tour was a full day at Evora. First, I just wanted to praise Around Lisbon, especially Claudia, for excellent pre-trip communications. She always replied promptly and thoroughly. Each day, the guides showed up on time, in nice, clean, comfy vehicles which were equipped with wifi hot spots and cold bottles of water. For Sintra, our guide was Filipe, who was great with us. My mom is not much of a walker, and has a tough time on hills, so Filipe was able to find creative ways to reduce the walking she had to do. He took us to the 4 spots we requested: Pena Palace, Sintra Palace (Village Palace), Quinta de Regaleira, and the cork convent. It's a lot for one day, but we managed to do them all. Though unfortunately for Filipe, it meant we didn't get back to Lisbon til almost 8pm. He never complained! All four of our visits were quite interesting and unique in their own ways, glad we did them all in lieu of the usual stops at Cascais or other coastal spots. Since a few of the places are not part of the normal tours, Filipe had arranged for site specific tours by staff from both the Quinta Regaleira and Sintra Palace. That worked out really well. The next day, Rita was our guide for a day at Evora. My mom was pretty tired from the very long Sintra day, so we opted to do a slightly shortened tour. We enjoyed walking through Evora, had a nice lunch at a place called The Bakery, then explored the Cromlech and cork forest. The wildflowers were in full bloom and simply gorgeous. Rita was great, though she was a bit new to this particular tour so relied a bit more on the GPS than I would have expected. If you want to explore Lisbon and beyond, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Around Lisbon. Book in advance, though!
This tour was the highlight of our few days in Lisbon before departing on a cruise. We were able to customize an additional stop and add a couple hours onto a standard package and it enriched our overall exploration. Our guide was Joanna. She was prompt, engaging, spoke English well and very easy to spend the day with. She relayed historical information so it was understandable and presented herself as a true professional. I would highly recommend this organization and their private and small tours with an array of service oriented and enthusiastic guides!

We had a fantastic trip to Sintra/Cascais area. Our driver/guide Nuno Rebelo was fluent in English, very knowledgeable and definitely gave us a great day. We were able to drive up to the very top at Pena Palace and then back into Sintra to minimize the walking and crowds. Entrance to the Pena Palace was expidited which which was a plus. Nuno also was able to accommodate some areas we wished to see along the way. We all agreed it was a great day. Take this tour with Nuno!!!

We cannot imagine doing this on our own or with a large group. Our guide, David, was laid back and very knowledgeable. He made sure that we arrived at Pena Palace when it first opened. And he was right. By the time we left, it was very crowded, and the line snaked forever. After the castle, we spent time in the enormous gardens, then had lunch at a tiny restaurant that was superb. We would never have found this on our own. Then on to Cabo da Roca, the western-most point on the European continent, and finally a long stop in the lovely resort town of Cascais, where we had free time to explore on our own, before returning to Lisbon. This was a highlight of our 2-week trip to Portugal. Thank you, David!

Our time visiting Sintra and Cascais with Racquel was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire day and felt that we maximised our time by doing this private tour. Racquel was vibrant, passionate and informative during the entire tour. The Pena Palace is a must see attraction and one of the most beautiful palaces we visited and with ourstanding views to the Atlantic and Lisbon. Cascais was also fabulous to visit and explore. Racquel's passion and knowledge meant the day was filled with fascinating information on King Fernando ll and the political times which we found extremely interesting. The whole tour was easy with hotel pick up, drop off and clear communication pre the tour. Racquel recomended an outstanding seafood restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for an amazing day Racquel.

A fantastic day with Sintra and Cascais. The guide was nice and very knowledgeable. I would love to go on more excursions!
The guide was punctual and kind Although I liked the tour I thought we would have more time in Sintra, for visiting in other Castles and not only in the Palace of Pena, although it is the most important
Very nice tour, exploring places of Cintra and Cascais. Very attentive guide, and correct with schedules and stops. A super recommended tour for photos.
It's worth going and visiting! Some of the surveillance people are a little too "square" and unpleasant but even that could not really spoil our pleasure. If you're around, don't miss it! It's kind of like in fairy tales. Enchanting!
Journée très bien organisée avec une guide de qualité...Rita maîtrise parfaitement le français et a tout fait pour nous faire découvrir le maximum de choses tout au long de notre journée d'excursion toujours avec le sourire Merci
A special and impressive place to climb to the entrance a mini bus exists (additional charge to be included in your ticket!) but it is possible to walk the way to the top in about 30min. but it climbs!. A breathtaking view upstairs! a steep paved road! special sculptures in stone! there are many azulejos visible. You don't know how to see it because it's big! many beautiful perspectives! It is possible to use toilets at the bottom of the castle and at the top! It is also possible to drink coffee and eat a sandwich! There is an outdoor terrace and 2-3 tables inside then it is possible to take 1 elevator to get off and we arrive directly in the souvenir shop of the castle and exit we find the mini bus stop to get off again. There are enough stairs but overall it's okay!
It's like being screened in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" movies. Colourful castle, completely surreal, directly inspired by a fairy tale, with spectacular views... Must see absolutely

Très belle excursion avec un guide très sympa. Seul bémol, le soleil n'était pas au rv

the palate is beautiful it is very easy to go lively from Lisbon Beautiful view the vegetation is very different almost lush the charming village and the chocolate gina to do ...
