Rui our guide was wonderful! He provided clear instructions on meeting location in advance which made it super easy. He is incredibly knowledgeable and we learned tons! I highly recommend Rui and this tour.

The tour was great. Our guide, Riu, was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend him and the tour.
Rui was an excellent guide, a great human, and extremely knowledgeable on both Portuguese history and all things Belém. He prepared our small group ahead of the tour with great communication and was very flexible with what we wanted to spend time on. The detailed info and sights at Pastéis de Belém was a welcome surprise also. Honestly, I feel more knowledgeable just listening to Rui's insights. This was one of the highlights of our trip and I would be thrilled to take another tour with Rui. If you have Rui as your guide, you can be 100% confident that you will have a great time.
Viator cancelled with us the night before. At this point all tickets to the Jernomis Monastery were sold out. We had a tight schedule and no option to book for another day. After making our way here to Lisbon very dissatisfied
This is a must see…one of the wonders of the world. Our guide w we as incredibly knowledgeable and had a great (dry) sense of humor.
Great experience with a very knowledgeable tour guide, Miguel, who was also funny and personal. Highly recommend guided tour in order to learn as much as one could. Very few signs within the monastery so a guide was invaluable
Rui was phenomenal! He was so informative. I learned so much from him. He knew about all sorts of history. I loved him being able to talk about the architectural styles and describe the portraits and the statues.
Rui was both friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a lot and saw many things that we would not be aware of on our own.
Highly recommend this tour. Our tour guide Rui was the definition of a professional tour guide who has obviously studied and practiced his craft over many years. He knew the history of every location we visited in great depth and shared stories that made the history of Lisbon come alive. There was no question he couldn’t answer in great detail. He looked after our tour group carefully and ensured we had enough time to rest and to be kept safe while crossing streets or over rough surfaces. Highly recommend this tour.
This is a very smooth and informative experience that showcased several attractions over some distance. By far, the most in knowledgeable guide we've had on Viator. I wouldn't recommend for kids under twelve, anyone with physical limitations or not actually interested in understanding the detailed history from an expert. Thank you Rui, one of Lisboa's finest.
Excellent informative tour. Small group allowed us to ask lots of questions which Rui was happy to answer.
The monastery does not have any informational placards or references for the historical significance of the artifacts and architecture inside, such as you would see in a traditional museum. This is intentional to preserve the interior. Thus, a tour like this is absolutely critical to understanding the significance and context of what you’re viewing. I would highly recommend it, and our guide Rui was an extremely well informed and articulate guide.
Spectacular building and lovely architecture whether you have any religious belief or not you must go
Rui was very informative, planned a great route for us, and answered all of our questions! None of the sites have any educational signs, so we would not have been able to really understand any of the sites/area without the tour and Rui's knowledge. I would highly recommend to get a full understanding of the sights! There was a little more walking than we originally expected, but is needed to cover all of the sites in the area (and was well worth it)
Although the line to enter Jeronimos was quite long, the visit was well worth it. Luis was a fantastic guide and gave us great background information and numerous insights. Highly recommended!
We could tell our guide, Rui, had deep knowledge of the subject matter. We learned a great deal about Portuguese history during the tour. It was a very small group and well worth the cost.
A worthwhile excursion to Belem with Rui as our guide. He was great with communication beforehand to insure the group found him and had the appropriate ticket for the Monastery. Even though we ended up in quite a long line despite our timed tickets, the cloisters was worth it. There are no informational signs inside so having a guide is essential and Rui was so knowledgeable and interesting. It's an extraordinary place. After the Monastery there is quite a bit of additional walking to get to Belem Tower and the Monument of the Discoveries. Again, Rui knew everything!!
Rui was an amazing guide very informative!!! Highly recommend, our guide was so knowledgeable and was able to answer any and all questions!
Rui was a fantastic guide! There wasn’t a question that he didn’t know the answer to! So much history was shared and so much of it involved or was represented at the Monastery - a great start to our visit to Lisbon and Portugal. And he was very attentive to potential missteps on the uneven pavement and street crossings. Extremely knowledgeable not only in the history of Portugal and Lisbon of the past, but also current events. Highly recommended.
We did this tour in February 2026. I visited Jeronimos Monastery 50 years ago and just walked around. This time I took this tour and it was so worth it. This is a very small group tour. Our guide Rui was a walking encyclopedia. He gave us so much information on the Belem tower and the Jeronimos Monastery but also on the history of Portugal and their adventures of exploring the world. I could have read 100 books and still not have learned as much. I found Rui to be very professional, i really loved the fact he didn't have to make jokes to fill in the gaps. Thank you
We had an excellent tour with Rui! He started the tour with a skip-the-line to Pasteis de Belém, which really are worth the hype. He then took us through the Jerónimos Church and Monastery. He provided a wealth of information about all the sites. We learned about the former colonies of Portugal and the Age of the Discoveries as well. His love of history really shines through. My partner is also a tour guide in his former-Spanish-colony home country, and the two of them together were able to compare and contrast their historical and cultural knowledge, as well as their experiences as guides. His tour completely made our day in the Belém district worth so much more than had we just explored on our own. Obrigada, Rui!
We had an absolutely fantastic time with the guided tour of Belem and the Jeronimos monastery. Rui, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and made the whole experience a delight. We would recommend it to anyone wanting to explore Belem and learn about the history as you do so.
Although the tour was on one of the coldest and wettest day my sisters and I had a lot of fun. Our guide Andriy was so knowledgeable and very sweet indeed. Not only that the support customer service was very prompt in replying to my queries.
This tour covers the Belém district extremely well and is a great way to understand its history and significance. One tip for future travelers: I wish I had planned extra time before the tour to visit MAAT and possibly the Coach Museum, since they’re right there and worth it. Our guide, Andriy Voyevoda, was absolutely phenomenal. His knowledge of Portuguese, Lisbon, and broader European history was exceptional, and what really stood out was how unpretentious, gracious, and engaging he was. Several of us commented afterward on just how impressive he was. There were a few moments with challenging “customers,” and Andriy handled them with remarkable diplomacy and professionalism—calm, respectful, and effective. I would happily take any tour led by him. And by association, the company clearly does an excellent job training their guides. Strongly recommended.
Andriy was our tour guide for the Jeronimos monastery and he made the tour very informative & enjoyable due to his deep knowledge of Portuguese history & his storytelling ability. He was also very passionate & wanted to make sure that we were keeping up with him. I will highly recommend Andriy as a tour guide.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and his English was excellent. Easy meet up directions. There were only 4 of us in the group so it was a very personal experience.
Our tour with Andre through the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower was one of the best we’ve experienced. Having visited many monasteries before, this one easily ranks in our top three — not only for its beauty and history, but also because of the way Andre brought it to life. He has a gift for storytelling. Starting from the very foundation, he built the narrative piece by piece, adding fascinating and unusual details that kept us engaged the entire time. It felt less like a lecture and more like a journey, with each layer of history unfolding naturally. Andre also made sure we experienced more of Lisbon’s treasures, including a stop at the oldest bakery in the city — a delicious and authentic treat — and a visit to the impressive Maritime Monument, which added even more depth to the day. His knowledge, passion, and thoughtful pacing made the experience unforgettable. We walked away not only impressed by the monastery and tower themselves, but also with a deeper appreciation for the stories and culture behind them. If you want a guide who can transform incredible landmarks into living history while weaving in local gems, Andre is the perfect choice.
This tour is a must on your trip to Lisboa. Be ready to walk, but our guide was so knowledgeable about every aspect of the tour.
Excellent experience! Andriy did a wonderful job explaining the history and details of everything in this itinerary! One of my favorite tour guides on this trip!!
Fabulous. Guide was very knowledgeable. Tour was organized & a lot of fun. Jeronomis Monastery is beautiful & the waterfront astounding. Belem is a wonderful area to explore. And, the original Monk recipe pastries were delicious.
Tour was excellent. Our guide Rui did a great job. He was very knowledgeable and provided great insight about all the sites visited. The monastery is a must see.
Good all around history. Tour guide Andriy was very informative. He was also patient and wanted us to ask any questions we had.
Tour guide is very organized and provides a lot of information. It was a shame that the Belfast tower was under restoration.
My Lisbon walking tour was highly informative, providing a comprehensive overview of the city’s rich history. The guide’s passion for Lisbon and its historical significance was evident throughout the tour.
Wonderful tour, andrey was a wealth of information! Extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend taking this tour
Thank you Andriy, for a fun informative tour! We enjoyed the original pastel de nata followed by the most beautiful monastery in the world! Highly recommend this site for everyone in Lisbon!
We had a fabulous time with Andrej our guide who is knowledgeable about the area. You have to buy your own tickets for the monastery but once in there Andrej explained everything. We had a local pastry from the famous bakery too, which was delicious. From there we went to the monument to the discoveries and also had a look at the Belém tower. It was a full on morning but a really good way to see the major sites.
Communication regarding the meeting instructions was clear and the location was easy to find. I took the tour with my mother. Andriy was our tour guide. He started by remembering all of our names and making introductions. He was impressive from the start. Andriy was extremely thorough and knowledgeable. The day started with a short walk to the famous pastry shop. We learned about its history and each received a pastry. Delicious and he began spilling the beans tying its history in directly to the monks that inhabited the monastery which was our next stop. Entry was quick and facilitated by Andriy. Learned about the order and the buildings history. Gorgeous architecture. He really engaged with us and was eager for questions. We then walked to the Monument to the Discovery after a quick stop to refuel at a museum cafe along the way. We learned all about Portuguese discovery and the statues carved into the monument. Then we walked along the riverfront to the Tower of Belem and learned about its use and significance. Again Andriy was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. In full disclosure, the only downside of the day .. which had nothing to do with the tour or Andriy .. was that my mother who is 80 .. had a hard time with the amount of standing and the distance we covered on foot. So if you have an older person with you, with any mobility issues, you might want to reconsider. My mother is in great shape for 80 but has issues with one of her knees and had a hard time afterwards.
Comprehensive tour with Andriy. He was very knowledgable about Belém Tower and Jeronimos Monastery. A most pleasant young man who made our experience most enjoyable. Best of all were the pastel de nata from the original Belém bakery. We ate them all over Portugal and those were the best! Thank you Andriy!
Learned about this tour in the forum and cannot recommend it highly enough! Our guide was Rui and he was exceptional. He gave communication before the tour with clear instructions where to meet, and made the whole experience more meaningful with his knowledge of the history. The time was well spent and went quickly. Quite an enjoyable experience, with the added bonus of avoiding the long lines at this attraction!
The highlight of this tour was definitely our guide, who was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. He had a deep understanding of the history and architecture of the monastery, which was impressive. That said, I felt the presentation could have been more lively and engaging, as the delivery was a bit monotonous. The monastery itself is beautiful and has the potential to be an amazing experience, but the tour felt somewhat boring. In the monastery We didn’t have any free time to explore on our own or take pictures. 20 minutes of free time would have enhanced the visit. Additionally, the Belém tower part of the tour was affected by ongoing reconstruction, so much of the site could only be seen from the outside. It would have been helpful if the tour operator had mentioned this beforehand. Finally, a small logistical note: we had to meet the guide in Belém and purchase our own tickets. Our advice is: Save your money and go the Monastery yourself.
Rui was a great guide. Knew how to hit the high points in the Monastery, so you could see it in a reasonable amount of time. He did a great job of communicating, was easy to understand, great knowledge, and a genuinely nice person. He is what you wish all guides were. Great tour at a great price. Do this if you are in Lisbon!
Our guide was so knowledgeable!!!! It was also great to have priority tickets and not spend extra time standing in line.
Was Free to view. A nice walk to and not many people around on the day we went. It was a beautiful day.
We had a wonderful experience on the Belém and Jerónimos Monastery Guided Small Group Walking Tour. Our guide, Andriy, was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating history and details that really brought the sites to life. He had an easy-going and friendly style that made the tour relaxed and enjoyable while still being very informative. We never felt rushed and appreciated how he took the time to answer questions and highlight details we might have otherwise missed. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants both depth and a fun, engaging experience in Belém!
Andriy was great with explaining everything and checking in with all. I left our tour leaving with so much more knowledge and appreciation for Portuguese history/ culture. It was an excellently done and balanced tour. I was disappointed that we couldn’t tour the Belém Tower due to construction but that was the only downside. Nothing Viator and or Andriy could do about it. I highly recommend and would definitely do again! Well worth the money spent.
Spent a wonderful 3 hours on a tour of Jeronimos Monastery and Torre de Belém (with a stop for a Pasteis de Belem). Our tour guide Rui was very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions the group asked. The tour was a group of 6, which was perfect size for walking and listening. Highly recommend!
We took two tours today with Andriy - Belem and the Jeronimos Monastery and Alfama and St. George Castle. Andriy was absolutely fantastic! Such a delightful guide and so knowledgeable. Our family could not stop talking about his wealth of knowledge and how much it enhanced our experience. The Jeronimos Monastery is an amazingly beautiful building and learning about Portugal's rich history in navigation was a plus. Alfama and St. George's Castle were equally interesting. By the end of the day we had seen the city from the bottom to the top! I highly recommend both tours and make sure to ask for Andriy!
By booking this tour, we saved about 2 hours of waiting in the general admission line and rather waited less than 10 minutes with our group to enter the monastery. Our guide was absolutely incredible and gave us such an amazing comprehensive history of all of the sites we saw and gave a great tour and context of the monastery. Would definitely recommend if you want to be able to go in to the monastery. He perfectly timed stops and rests during the tour.
Andre was a fantastic tour guide! He was incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour exciting and interactive. It would have been a completely different experience visiting the monastery without Andre! He was amazing - would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to visit the monastery.
