We were met on time by our guide, Joao, who was unfailingly attentive, courteous and knowledgeable and surpassed all of our expectations in providing us with a marvellous experience, traversing the beautiful country and all of the fascinating and historic towns and landmarks to the south of Lisbon. First class - and highly recommended.

I did this private tour with my sisters and it was a nice option with some new experiences outside of Lisbon. Our tour guide, Joao, was very knowledgeable and kind, and his car was large and comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the market and trying some fresh pastries there, as well as seeing a couple smaller towns outside the city that were less touristy. The cathedral was beautiful and we also enjoyed the short winery tour and tasting. One small thing: we booked the tour through TripAdvisor a few weeks in advance, but were then told we needed to change our date because they no longer had availability for the day we booked. They had sent many messages but unfortunately I didn’t see them until the day before, so we had to rearrange some other plans last minute. I’d just recommend confirming your date and time with them right after booking.

Full day tour. Riding, lots of stops. Get to see alot of different areas, learn portugals history & culture. Visit to winery and tile factory very neat. Very interesting to learn about those crafts.

This tour was a wonderful full-day experience! Our guide, Anastacia, is delightful and so knowledgeable -- she really made it a informative and very fun day. Our guide, Joao, put us at ease immediately and continued to offer lots of information. The day passed too quickly but memories remain. The views in the national park were worth the photos and lunch was superb: Joao organized window seats upstairs. Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

This is another must see day trips out of Lisbon with an incredible variety of historical sights and landscapes! It’s a quieter region but food for the soul & spirit! From the natural park, to the local Marketplace, castle, monastery, & shrine offering incredible 360 views and a coastal fishing village and beaches! Really informative, polite and chatty guide. Fluent English. He selected a great seafood restaurant for lunch (my wife and I selected different octopus dishes) and arranged a great table. Good photo stops, nice breaks and a very pleasant day.

This was the first of several private tours we took with Kitzel and it did not disappoint. Joao (John) was a terrific tour guide as we explored the Natural Park of Arrabida and the surrounding area. We started with a stop in Palmela at a site of a former convent. The views were breathtaking and gave us a good orientation of the Arrabida national park. From there we made a stop in Setubal to visit a farmer's market, a lively market with fresh fish, fruit/vegetables, and other local delicacies. This lead to a scenic drive through the Natural Park of Arrabida before stopping for lunch in Sesimbra that offered a beautiful view of the beach/ocean while we were eating. We had a little bit of time before wine tasting, and Joao took us to a tile making manufacturer, where we received a free private tour. It was interesting to learn about the tile making process. Our tour ended with wine tasting in Azeitão at the José Maria da Fonseca wineries. There was a brief tour of the facility before we got to sample two types of wine. Joao was a fantastic guide throughout the day, never making us feel rushed. It was like a friend showing you around the area. He was a wealth of information no matter where we went and gave us plenty of time to walk around and explore at our own pace. This tour provided a beautiful view of the area about an hour southeast of Lisbon - from beaches to cliff views it was time well spent. We had a wonderful full day with Joao! He was so informative, and energetic and took us to places we would never have had an opportunity to visit ourselves. Our family enjoyed the day thoroughly. I highly recommend booking this tour with him.

Jaoa was very informative and kind as he took my adult daughter and me on a lovely tour of the countryside and small towns. The scenery was spectacular and he gave us some time to absorb it. We loved visiting the large indoor market, taking in breathtaking views while in the park and at the Cabo, the visit to a tile making workshop, and the wine tasting. We enjoyed a delicious lunch - got the cod special. Jaoa is a very safe driver and shared his wealth of knowledge and love of his country with us.

We booked this tour and Joao was our tour guide he is extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and sets priorities for his tour members. We arrived just a day before our tour and did not have any euros and the store would not take my credit card he offered to take care of it until I could pay him back.

Joao was very professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. He took us back to Arrabida on the way back home because the weather was not permissible in the morning. The tour is private hence everything is following your pace, very recommended! Even added a short stop to a tile factory because we loved it. Arrabida is a very beautiful destination perfect if you want to seek out pretty landscapes.

Our guide Joao was exceptional. He was extremely knowledgeable and we enjoyed many pleasant conversations about the sites we were visiting as well as Lisbon in general. We booked another tour with him to see Lisbon.

This has been one of the greatest tours we have been on. Our guide was fantastic. Besides picking us up from our hotel in a private vehicle, he explained in detail the history and important facts of the places we visited. Being very fluent in English we could understand all the information and this contributed to a much more seamless experience. Joao is very kind, respectful and down to earth. He was in contact with us before the tour even started and he was very accommodating when we asked to include certain stops during our day. Being a private tour, we could benefit from a personalized experience which was made even more special with memorable photos which Joao generously took of us. If I could give a higher rating for this excursion I definitely would! Besides from having a very reasonable price for a private experience, one gets to see the beautiful Arrabida from a local’s perspective. Joao (John) is amazing. If you want a suit and tie with a mercedes guy--he is not the one. Everything was very casual, changes or additions were "No problem", He is personable, fun, and so very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed talking with him on the ride and especially at lunch for the 2 days we were with him. He knew all the best spots for views and ocean and eating and gave us so much information about living in and enjoying Lisbon. We have no plans to be back but we would tour with him in a heartbeat if we came back. He is a gem and we encourage anyone but the most formal visitors. he was kind to us "old folk" and made it easy for us to take in the scenery we most wanted while accommodating our pains and other minor infirmities. Wow, where do I start. Probably the best 3 days we have spent touring, anywhere. We just returned from a 4 day visit to Lisbon. Since we had been to Lisbon previously, we decided to spend 3 of our 4 days this time doing day trips outside of Lisbon. I had reached out to Joao at Kitzel Tours back in July and this is when I knew this was the right company and person to use. Joao was always timely with his email replies and very thorough in making sure what he was offering was matched up well to what we were looking for. Fast forward to November and on day 1, I knew it was right. We spent 3 full days with Joao. He is extremely knowledgeable, considerate and fun. He planned every detail of our 3 days and we covered so much. Day 1 was Evora and Aljento including Cork Factory, Day 2 was Arrabida, Seisambra, Setubal and Palmelo…a beautiful drive along the coast, and Day 3 was Sintra, Cabo Roca and Cascais. I cannot recommend him highly enough. We travel the world, and have toured hundreds of cities. We do a lot of touring on our own, and have used countless other tour providers. NONE come even close to what Joao provided us on this tour.

João was an excellent host, friendly knowledgable and good sense of humour. He has created a superb tour allowing you to see Lisbon and the southern city mountainous landscape. You will see many beautiful vistas, get great photos and learn a little history on the way. In all this was the perfect get away for me and my fiancé and would happily go on another tour with João.

The trip was just the ticket for my wife and me on my birthday This trip is, as João says, more about the countryside and the beautiful oceanside than this history of Portugal, and that's what made it just right for the occasion. Jôão is knowledgeable and friendly, attentive and courteous. As this is a private tour, he only leaves your side for specific moments to allow some privacy to enjoy the views, but quickly rejoins and guides you again. For older participants concerned with mobility, there is not much walking and not many stairs to speak of.

The tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. He explained things as we go along with our tour. The views are spectacular. The photos we took are priceless .

The other activities in Portugal paled by comparison to João. He was informative, attentive, accommodating, helpful, friendly, patient, and - well - simply awesome. Using TripAdvisor as a guide which tours to choose is always a good choice. If I could give more than a 5 rating, I would. There's no reason to look elsewhere. Our only regret was not hiring João for other tours. After him, even good guides seemed so-so.
