Itinerary
See how Peru's iconic historical sites like Machu Picchu and the Nazca Lines are connected to each other and its indigenous cultures with this admission ticket to Lima's Larco Museum. Founded in 1926 by Peruvian archaeologist Rafael Larco Hoyle, the museum showcases remarkable chronological galleries providing an excellent overview of 5,000 years of pre-Columbian Peruvian history. Visiting the museum is an excellent way for any visitor to Peru to frame their trip in the bigger picture of Peru's complicated and fascinating past. The museum is located in a unique 18th-century colonial mansion that was built on top of a 7th-century, pre-Columbian pyramid. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, it features the finest gold and silver collection from ancient Peru in the world. It's also home to a large collection of erotic art. Visitors wanting an even more in-depth understanding of Peruvian history can take a look at the museum's storage area, which is open to the public and is home to 45.000 classified archaeological objects.

The grounds are beautiful and stop by the restaurant for lunch or dessert.
We waited only a few minutes to get a English speaking guide for 15 sol pp extra which was well worth it. The museum was massive and amazing. We also had lunch at the restaurant. Reservation recommended
This was a great time to view the city, have a pisco tasting and explore the catacombs!
Not needed at all. There was no line. The museum is fantastic. So well set and explained yo almost need no guide at all. The premises are very beautiful, specially the entrance ramp and courtyard with its flowering bougainvillea of different colors.
We engaged an English speaking guide Karla for the visit and she was very professional and knowledgeable. We were truly impressed by the artifacts and well preserved history dating back to 3000 BC. Peru is the cradle of ancient civilizations that flourished thousands of years ago. Visit to Larco museum was an extremely humbling and educational experience
The museum is really interesting and has so much to see. We only had a couple of hours but really glad we visited. We also had lunch which was very good food and excellent service. The grounds and the flowers are beautiful. Definitely worth a visit.
This was the last planned stop on our day trip in Lima (the first stop on our 12 day tour in Peru) and it did not disappoint. The old hacienda has been perfectly restored to display this exhibition and the museum curation was informative and helpful. Quite a stunning Our family of 6 adults spent about 1.5 hours in the museum and grounds, which are beautifully maintained with unusual plants. This is certainly a world-class museum and should be on your "don't miss" list for a Lima visit.
Museum experience was great.
The museum itself is lovely, in a grand building with beautiful gardens. It’s also in a slightly weird location outside of the other tourist areas, so you will need to get a taxi or tour to get there. The exhibits are laid out in 4 languages and there are a lot of artefacts to see. I would say that the focus is very much on the artefacts and the cultural significance of them, which was really interesting. The only thing I felt was missing a bit was maybe some broad Peruvian history, so that the overall timelines and context could be better understood. The restaurant is a bit expensive but it was nice!
If you are interested in pre-Columbia civilization, this is a must see. The artifacts are amazing. I recommend the audio tour. We learned so much from it and then went back to engage in parts that we wanted to get to know in depth.
Wonderful calm setting. Beautifully presented works. Good wall descriptions. So interesting. Wonderful garden cafe.
Really enjoyed. Great. !!!!!
Immersive experience of the pre Inca and Inca history and culture with the understanding of the significance of Peru connected with the world. The museo restaurant is also an amazing gastronomy experience embedded in an enchanted garden. Recommend allowing about 3 hours for the museum and follow up with a visit to the restaurant and take your time into late evening to enjoy the ambiance. Audio tour highly recommended.
Great time - also the audio tour is worth the 15 Sol
Great display of artifacts, really impressive pottery and some VERY incredible pieces of metal work by the Chimu culture. Larco was truly a pioneer and frontiersman of Peruvian coastal archeology, finding 7 cultures unknown previously. Learned a lot about the death cults and human sacrifice, pottery, textiles, skull trepidations, and warfare. One of the only museums in Peru and one of several in the whole world that puts their non exhibit pieces on display. The erotic gallery was extra spicy if you can handle it. The gardens outside are very incredible- free storage for luggage and large bags. Professionally done and ground breaking musuem- must do! and I also recommend huaca San Mateo if you are in the area.
Give yourself lots of time to read, learn and explore this important museum and don't skip the incredible warehouse, or Erotic Museum. Exceptional opportunity and a must see for anyone who wants to learn about Peru from BC to modern times. There was no lineup and only about 14-20 people total in the whole exhibits on a Thursday afternoon in early March.
This is definitely a must visit in Lima if you like to know more about different cultures and see potery from different cultures. Very impressive collection!! The garden is very magnificent.
We had a slight issue with TripAdvisor not sending the code to present to the museum. But the staff helped with the issue and with time we were able to enter. They were very kind and understanding. I really appreciate that. Museum was very interesting. Lots of information and artifacts to view. I enjoyed the experience.
This is definitely a must visit when in Lima. Both the venue and the collection are awe-inspiring. Located inside the most enchanting gardens, the museum hosts the private collection of Rafael Larco Hoyle on Ancient Peruvian findings. It's a very very rich collection giving in depth understanding of Peru's past civilizations. I recommend to allocate at least half a day to this wonderful place.
A fascinating exhibition of ancient Peruvian artifacts pre Inka mostly. Take a guide to show you around to give a proper understanding of the enormous collection in all its glory.
This was a beautiful museum. There were so many artifacts of the Incas. We also ate at the restaurant on site for dinner and it was excellent.
The collection is extensive and well curated. Be sure to walk through the Visible Storage to appreciate the extent of the collection. All the galleries are well labeled and flow through beautifully. The Erotica Gallery is separate from the main collection. We arrived at 11:00 AM and there was no line and no need for advanced tickets.
This was one of the best museums I have seen anywhere. Compact, well organized with easy layout, English explanations, perfect lighting, all to display a rich history of Peru culture and arts. The items on display look like they were freshly minted! It is set in a beautiful colonial building with entrance and coirtyard bursting with colorful bougainvillea. Do not miss the detached erotic gallery which is part of the entrance. There is a fine dining restaurant / cafe on the grounds with a beautiful setting. However, the main menu is available only after 12 noon. This is one of the only museums open on Mondays. Do not miss it.
Larco Museum Restaurant was very lovely! The food and ambience was a 10/10. The museum itself umm...
Didn’t not receive my tickets after purchasing on this app. TripAdvisor is a scam. Never buy anything through this website again.
A visit to the museum gives you a great understanding of Peruvian civilizations. The garden and entrance to the museum are lovely.
I am so glad I visited this museum while in Lima. First, the grounds are stunning with many colorful flowers. Second, the building is gorgeous and third, the collection is unparalleled. The sheer volume of ceramics was impressive and they cleverly have a visual storage area. There is also a separate erotic ceramics section. The gift shop was great too! I highly recommend a visit if you are in Lima.
Mussolini Larco is a great introduction to Peru history. The collections are large & nicely organized. It’s a nice 2 hr visit. The property has love my gardens.
Housed in a beautifully restored 18th-century vice-royal mansion built on a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid, the Larco Museum in Pueblo Libre offers a captivating journey through over 4,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. Its extensive collection includes stunning ceramics, intricate textiles, and dazzling gold and silver artifacts. Don't miss the unique erotic pottery gallery! After your visit, take a stroll through the museum's lovely gardens and consider dining at its on-site café.
This museum has possibly the best assemblage of pre-Inka vessels. Nearly 100 years old it boasts numberless pieces that are veritable chefs d’oeuvre. Particularly remarkable are the pots coming from the Mochica region (N Perú) among them quite a few world known. It’s a pity that most of the artefacts come from the looting of sites and, therefore, more detailed information about them is lacking.
Larco musuem has well-organized exhibition of a good collection of artifacts dated thousands years ago. It provides a good introduction of pre-Inca Peruvian civilizations
Outstanding museum with extensive archeological artifacts, multi-lingual guides with additional text description adjacent to each item on display, indicating the historic and cultural significance of each. I spent 2.5-3 hours touring the displays and gardens. Well worth the visit!!
Fascinating exhibits, wonderful, knowledgeable guide for an extra fee. We’ll worth the time and trip!
This is a must see attraction, and if possible before going to other location such as ruins. It gives a visual history of Perú. The museum is loaded with artifacts. While you are there enjoy a meal at the museum redtsurant.
Incredible outdoor space filled with bougainvillaea. Spectacular, well presented, english- spanish-french-german-italian explanations. The collection emphasises the coastal cultures. Very good way, as most museums are, to learn about the culture and history of the area. The open storage is 'wow.'
This is one if not the one better museum in precolombian art I have visited in Latin America. It is privately owned. However, the entrance fee is moderate - about 30-40 soles- which relatively cheap to access a 5000 art pieces masterly displaced using museum glass, perfect lighting, description in about 5 languages. The display takes the visitor through the history of the ancient pre Inca history making one to fall in love with the culture and learning to admire such a richness. The erotica salle is as marvelous as the rest of the museum. The gardens are amazing and do the restaurant which has a limited selection of dishes but properly selected to provided visitors with a sample of the AMAZING peruvian gastronomy. I just want to go back again, today and tomorrow..
Such an interesting museum. I loved the expositions and we ate at the restaurant, it was quite expensive for the peruvian standard but such a nice experience
The museum is beautiful, and the storage area is incredible. I've never been to a museum with an accessible storage. I shopped in their gift shop and had a delicious lunch while watching the humming birds.
There wasn't a line to skip in end of february. These might be good for peak season. There's a lot to read but a map is given to you so you can explore & guide yourself properly, i would probably opt for a guide next time because i 'm lazy.
LARCO MUSEUM is a gem. The staff is very knowledgeable and everyone there wants you to have a good experience. The displays are well organized and explained in several languages. I will return on my next visit to Lima.
The setting of the Larco is devine. The restaurant is charming and the food is delicious. All staff are professional & helpful. The exhibits are displayed in a beautiful arrangement & explanations posted in several languages. Do not miss the Erotic gallery on ground level for a fascinating exhibition of pre-Inca culture. Larco Museum is a must see in Lima! Come early to avoid tour bus crowds.
One of our highlights of visiting the city of Lima was viewing the Larco Museum and later having a delicious meal at their café. We were staying in the Hilton in Miraflores and took a 30-minute Uber ride across town—every minute was well worth the effort and monies. Specializing in Peruvian pre-Columbian artifacts that date back to 5000 years ago, there is much to see, ponder and enjoy. We loved seeing the intricate necklaces, earrings and other jewelry worn by various cultures that inhabited this area long ago. Don’t miss the Erotic Pottery which is actually in a different section of the complex. You will have to go down a large ramp and there is a separate door by the restaurant. The building complex is of the 18th century. Today, it is decorated in various colors of Bougainvillea. Through various collections, this private museum was made public in 1926. There is a sister museum in Cusco. Across the street is a small, but beautiful park. If you found this review helpful in any way, please click the icon “thumbs-up” to let me know.
Skipping the line is definitely worth your while as the museum can get busy pretty early on. I manged to get there first before they opened and anyone else and it still made getting in as easy as possible.
The Larco Museum in Lima, Peru, is a must-visit for history and art enthusiasts. Housed in an 18th-century vice-royal building, it offers a fascinating journey through 5,000 years of pre-Columbian history with its extensive collection of artifacts, including ceramics, textiles, and gold and silver pieces. One of the museum's highlights is its renowned collection of erotic pottery, providing a rare glimpse into the intimate aspects of ancient Peruvian life. The museum also features a well-preserved mummy and a vast array of ceremonial vessels, illustrating the rich cultural heritage of the region. The lush gardens and charming café add to the overall experience, making it a perfect spot to relax and reflect. The museum is located in a secure area, with friendly security and staff to help you find the entrance. At the entrance, the staff member who assisted me was not familiar with Viator e-tickets, so another person had to jump in to assist. Also, I had a small backpack that they wouldn’t allow me to take in, so I had to remove a few things to keep on my person during the tour. They secured my bag in a room and gave me a claim number to retrieve it after my self-guided tour. The erotic section of the museum is located on the first floor, next to the courtyard and underneath the restaurant. I wouldn’t have known about this area of the museum complex had I not wandered around checking out the grounds. It would be helpful in the future if the museum staff would point this out to tourists as they check into the main museum. Overall, my Larco Museum experience was definitely near the top of my favorites list for my 9-day stay in Lima. It needs to be a must-see if you’re in town.
This ticket never was sent nor was it available on the app. When I arrived, I paid regular price for entry. The museum, however, was incredible! Fascinating history of Peruvian ancient civilization, and an enormous collection of artifacts. A must see—but just pay for your ticket when you arrive.
Gorgeous intimate museum. The buy ticket ahead didn’t win us anything, still had to do a line. Line was short at the time we were there. Beautiful restaurant with pretty good food.
Best museum we went to in Peru. A goldmine (literally) of incredible artefacts, well displayed and in a beautiful setting. The huge collection of pots in their archives is almost overwhelmingly amazing. The cafe was also great, with delicious high quality food. The Coca Sour cocktail in particular was ace and worth a try. Museum shop also excellent, we got some fun things from there.
You must visit this museum if you’re interested in the history of Peru and its people. Everything was payed out nicely and the artifact room was an eye opener! We learned so much!
An excellent collection of pre columbian artifacts! So much interesting history and a really beautiful representation of culture. We especially loved the room of extra artifacts, and the erotic collection was a fun bonus!
