An iconic catholic place in the heart of the historic center of Lima. Has 14 side chapels inside. The main has the remains of the spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro.
The historic chapter house of the Basilica of Santo Domingo was the place where the University of San Marcos, the oldest university in the Americas. One of the most worthy places to visit is the library that has around 25,000 books, some printed on XV century, among them several bibliographical collections of great value.
After the founding of Lima on January 18th, 1535, Captain Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez received a colonial house in the elegant area near the house of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish Conqueror, (today the Government Palace). Ever since then the Aliaga family and their descendants have lived in the house, thus making it the oldest dwelling in the Americas that has been home to the same family for 17 generations.
The Church and Convent of Saint Francis (Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco) is a spectacular example of Moorish-inspired Spanish baroque colonial grandeur, but the real highlight is the spooky labyrinth of catacombs underground. One of the best preserved churches in Lima, the Convent of San Francis of Assisi also has a remarkable library of antique texts and a tranquil cloistered garden.

We thoroughly enjoyed our personalized tour of Lima’s Old City. Our guide, Mayrol, was outstanding—knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the history, architecture, and culture of Lima. He brought the city to life with fascinating stories and insights that we would never have discovered on our own. Our driver, Fernando, was equally impressive. Navigating Lima’s busy and often crowded streets is no small task, but Fernando handled it with skill, patience, and professionalism, allowing us to relax and enjoy the experience. Together, Mayrol and Fernando made a terrific team. Their expertise, friendliness, and attention to detail made this one of the highlights of our visit to Peru. We highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a deeper understanding of Lima and its rich heritage.
Our guide Gabriel was very knowledgeable about the sites and Peru more generally. We were originally going to visit the historic town centre on our own, but we’re so glad we took this tour instead because Gabriel’s insights really enhanced the experience. Very highly recommended!
Lovely informative tour of old central Lima. Our guide Sonja was great, and answered any questions we had. The driver Benjamin was an expert at dealing with crazy Peruvian drivers. Highly recommended.
Very enjoyable and informative tour that had to be squeezed into our tight schedule.
Excellent experience . The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly as well as accommodating. The private transportation was very comfortable and make the tour a wonderful time.
All sites and areas in this tour are very impressive and we can’t imagine coming to Lima for the first time without experiencing it. Our guide was exceptional in his knowledge, demeanor and command of English!
This tour was originally planned to start at 8:30am, we then received a message two days before our tour saying the tour would begin at 9:00am. Our guide did not arrive until 9:36am, and she had no idea what sites we had on the schedule. She tried to act like we were only seeing two sites, when we had four confirmed and paid for in full on this tour. I had to convince her to give us the full tour we had paid for in full and she complained that we wouldn’t have enough time for all four stops even though she was the one who was late, we only saw three of the four. She had the audacity to say that we should have started earlier if we wanted to see all four sites, we should have started earlier, and I responded that wasn’t our fault. Our tour was subpar, my husband and I had to ask her to explain sites frequently and she was disorganized in her tour. My husband isn’t bilingual so I had to give him an overview of the tour since her command of the English language wasn’t as strong as advertised. The only good thing about this tour was that the Casa de Aliaga was beautiful. This was one of the worst tours we’ve ever been on.
The walking with Mairo’s (the guide) explanation was very good. There was a parade in the streets and it was amazing.
Great service from the guides, we had no problems
The entire operation, punctuality, and attention during the whole trip and at all its stages have been excellent. One of the best experiences I have had in all the trips I have taken.

Amazing walk! Comfortable vehicle, experienced driver and very attentive and kind guide. Walking and listening to the explanations of the guide during the tour made the experience very rich!
Our guide, Mayrol, introduced us to the historic center of Lima with a great contribution of data and good sense of humor. Despite the Plaza Mayor being closed, he negotiated with the police and we were able to access it. Highly recommended.
Excellent everything contracted with the Agency. I did several tours all the airport treaties.. train.. bus. All impeccable and very professional. I would definitely choose them again.
