We had a wonderful trip exploring the southwest of Mauritius, with its breathtaking scenery, beautiful coastline, and lush landscapes. Our guide made the day especially enjoyable, sharing interesting information while giving us plenty of time to experience each stop without feeling rushed. The views and natural beauty of this part of the island were truly unforgettable. It was a fantastic experience and definitely one of the highlights of our holiday in Mauritius!

Itinerary
Enjoy the 360 degree views from the top of the Trou aux Cerfs volcano while taking a stroll around the crater. This dormant volcano stands at around 600 m above sea level, and on clear days offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the island.
Drive by the Mare-aux-Vacoas, Mauritius’ largest reservoir, on the way to Grand Bassin, a tranquil and serene crater lake considered sacred by the Hindu population. Discover the Hindu culture by visiting the temples around the lake and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings. You will also be amazed by the tall statue of Shiva and the view from the highest temple. Be sure to watch out for the monkeys and wildlife. Note: It may not be possible to make this stop in the month of February or March as the area is also a pilgrimage site during the festival of Mahashivaratree.
Nature lovers will enjoy the incredible views of the Black River Gorges, the largest national park in Mauritius. Covering an area of 6754 hectares, the park is home to numerous endemic flora and fauna and provides visitors with beautiful hikes, with varying levels of difficulty. During your drive through the park and Plaine des Champagnes, you will also get to stop and admire Alexandra falls and viewpoint, and if they’re in season, like the locals, you’ll want to pick a few goyaves de chine!
Visit the popular Chamarel, the coloured earth site, where in addition to the geological wonders of the seven coloured dunes, you can view the Chamarel Falls, the most famous waterfall in Mauritius! And, make sure you stop by the giant tortoise pens before leaving the park!
View Chamarel Falls from the seven coloured earth site.

Lots of walking over cobblestone pathways and uphill. The views were worth the walk. I would love to spend more time in Mauritius.
We've spent a pleasant day with our guide San. He arrived on time with a comfortable clean car which already made a very positive first impression. Very polite, knowledgeable fluent English speaker. He was able to answer all our questions and we've felt secure in capable hands. Very much advised for anyone who lm are considering taking this day trip.
Waterfalls Alexandra and Trou aux Cerfs. Lac Sacré was allo an intéressant place. But no comment of the driver guide.
Had a fun time with ease of transportation covered. Guide was very knowledgeable and shared a lot about Mauritian culture.
Before I go into the detail (which I suggest you read if you're going to take this tour) I should say that, yes, we enjoyed the tour and yes, it was decent value for money. The driver was great, although he didn't accompany us to the sights, he was able to answer our questions and his driving on the steep, winding roads was safe and sensible. So this is billed as a 4 stop tour, 2 hours each at: Trou aux cerfs The grand bassin crater (lake) Black river national park 7 coloured earth park We first stopped at what was billed as 'tea tasting'. It was actually a shop full of extremely expensive gifts. In and out quickly, the next shop was a 'local factory' (another expensive gift shop) followed by a 'rum tasting'. Yes, another very expensive gift shop. After a chat with the driver we declined the 'diamond jewellery maker' and I think another rum tasting. Trou aux cerfs is a volcano rim with some nice views, if you walk all the way round it takes about 20 minutes. We stopped to see the giant Hindu statues on the way to the lake (I'm assuming it was Grand Bassin?). There are numerous Hindu temples there at the lakeside. we were 10 minutes at the statues and another 10 at the lake. Then we went to the Black River National Park, well what I assume is the best viewpoint, job done in 10 minutes. There were clearly some hiking trails but with no information to hand we couldn't really get more adventurous. There were also some market stalls between the car park and the viewpoint that offered gifts at the best prices we saw during our stay in Mauritius. Then lunch, we drove past a dozen or so empty looking restaurants but had a good lunch, with other tourists at what was clearly the chosen place. We weren't paying local prices! The earlier shananigans made me suspicious of how the restaurant was selected. Before the 7 coloured earth park (right opposite the entrance in fact) we were bundled without explanation into 'Curious Chamaral'. It's a hotch potch of curiosities and optical illusions, for £10 a head. This might be OK if you had children with you but was a waste of time for us. This took the review from 4 stars to 3. Finally 7 coloured earth, including the waterfall, all very good but again only 30-40 mins although we could have hiked the short walk to the ebony plantation. So you could realistically do the whole lot in a morning and skip the lunch; if you avoided the gift shops and scams. Have a chat with the driver, give him a few hours off and the trip is worth the money.
We booked this trip at about 40 hours notice, yet, bonjour mauritius were able to accommodate us with a private guide Kesavan who picked us up at our hotel and gave us some info about the country whilst we drove to our stops. His car had extra umbrellas which were very welcome on this very wet day. We'd definitely recommend.
The trip was amazing. San, the driver and guide, told me everything about the island, it’s culture, food, nature, religion… You get to see all the amazing sites of the southwest within a few hours, definitely recommend this trip.
We enjoyed our trip, driver was polite and soft spoken and the car was comfortable as well. Driver help out us out by taking us to an amazing local restaurant for lunch as well. Only issue was that our driver did not seem to know much about the places we visited, and did not come in with us as other tourists drivers were.
We had a beautiful trip and saw more of this beautiful island. Thanks to Kesaven, our friendly driver we learned a lot over the country. Highly recommended to do such a trip!
Situated in the south west of Mauritius, one has to experience this amazing phenomenon on a sunny day.
We booked the tour couple of days in advance. On the day a taxi driver came to pick us up and then we found out that he is also the tour guide which could have been fine if he would actually speak English or have any knowledge about the attraction (or maybe he has the knowledge but can’t deliver it in English). Basically it was nothing more then a taxi ride. Disappointing!!! I don’t recommend it at all.
in worse weather was still nice, our driver was very attentive and very nice but weather did not play along - abert was very nice
De beaux sites à visiter mais je trouve le tarif d'entrée du site " Terre aux 7 couleurs " Trop cher.
After clarifying that we want to see sights and not go shopping in tourist shops, we were shown everything as described. If our driver's English had been a little better and he had talked a little more, we could have learned more about Mauritius. From a private tour we had expected a little more.
Tourist catch The land is not such a must-see place Useless deer hole Interesting temple to see this is unmissable with both statuses Lunch and visit to the rum shop are interesting Very long day because very school to do only bus
Superb guided tour of the south of Mauritius by our driver Kesaven 👌🏼 We ended with the beautiful site of Chamarel 😍
Unfortunately we were not too convinced when we came back from this trip. Booked and experienced things differed a little and you were mainly driven to the places where the organization could benefit most. It started with the fact that we were first taken to a glass museum, this was not agreed, but was nice and rather inexpensive in nature. Afterwards we were driven to "shopping centers", so a few sweater stores and after we waved off, we still wanted to go to jewelry stores, which we also braked immediately. We assume that the organization will receive a commission here... Then it was the Grand Bassin, we imagined this a little differently, but the driver can't help it. But now came the biggest rip-off of the tour. Instead of the promised 7 colored earths we went to the Ealley of Couleur where you can see 23 colored earths... We should have waved it off from the start and insisted on the national park that was actually planned! This was a tourist temple with the worst food of the whole holiday and extremely overpriced buggy and quad rides. I suppose the whole thing earned the organization a hefty commission, but we would have preferred to see the original! Relevant testimonials can be found on Tripadvisor, although I wonder why it has so many positives, as this is really a tourist trap. In the end, I can unfortunately rather advise against this tour, because you are only carted around as a good to make as much profit as possible and this also becomes correspondingly aware on the ride, which leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. However, if you book them, please insist on heading for the booked things and not be persuaded to carry out the other activities. The viewpoints were nice and offered a good view over Mauritius, in the end we especially liked the monkeys at the last viewpoint. We will probably take a separate taxi again to examine the original 7 colored Earths and the associated national park. Somewhat exaggerated you could say, you have wasted a precious tah of the holidays with unscheduled and are annoyed about it. What a shame!
The earth of 7 colors is surprising: colors change according to the time and the temperature! The Chamarel waterfall is magnificent and beautiful photos can be taken. Do not miss in front of the entrance of the earth of 7 colors "Curious Corner" the house with fun and incomprehensible optical effects. Children and adults will love it. The deer hole is worth the trip for the panorama like the Black River Gorge but many tourists.
very nice excursion with in addition to beautiful landscapes, not to be missed also the museum of models of the navy located in Curepipe (superb and exceptional work of the workers).
Very nice discoveries: to make... You are free to visit each site at your own pace and your boiler room is attentive to any specific requests
A nice outing with a driver & private guide of the best level (Mr Soopaya). Many places visited, including the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden (Grapefruit). Extraordinary, but a guide is really essential!
I highly recommend this Enterprise. The driver sent Mr. Ken is a specialist, very professional, smiling, pleasant, patient. Excellent day. Thank you very much.
I liked it in general and it was a positive experience. The hours were respected to the second and we had time to see everything. However, it was only a taxi ride, in which the driver left us at the entrance of the attractions and said where he would be waiting for us. Besides, it went very well and I recommend visiting the places that are very beautiful.
Definitely worth a trip! Very impressive natural spectacle. Everyone recognizes different colors. Mosquito repellent recommended. Duration on site: approx. 45 minutes incl. Turtle-peeking absout sufficient
Today We made the south west of the island, chamarel, rum (attention, entrance fee and machines do not turn in winter...) the 7 colors earth, waterfalls, we could see the sacred lake, but with the rain, we could not enjoy taking beautiful photos .. Avoid the winter period (which is from May to September)!! Finally, we have eat in a local Mauritian restaurant 🇲🇺, served in a banana leaf and eat with hands, really to do, the restaurant is called eboni.
