Itinerary
Your day begins with a scenic drive through the Nevada desert to Nelson Ghost Town, a once-booming gold mining settlement set in the rugged landscape of Eldorado Canyon. Spend about an hour exploring at a relaxed pace, walking among well-preserved historic buildings, vintage vehicles, and old mining equipment that offer a glimpse into the area’s Wild West past. This atmospheric ghost town is especially popular with photographers and history enthusiasts. Guests who wish may also optionally visit the Techatticup Mine for a guided underground tour, where stories of mining life and frontier history bring the town’s past to life.
Leaving Nelson, travel south into Arizona and join a scenic stretch of the iconic Route 66, where desert landscapes and classic roadside views capture the spirit of the American road trip. Continue to Oatman, a historic mining town set in the Black Mountains and best known for its friendly wild burros — descendants of the donkeys once used by miners. Enjoy up to 90 minutes of free time to explore at a relaxed pace. Wander the wooden sidewalks, see the burros roaming through town, browse souvenir shops, and grab lunch or snacks if you wish. With its Old West charm and laid-back atmosphere, Oatman offers one of the most memorable stops along Route 66 without feeling rushed.
After Oatman, continue to Kingman, one of the most important towns along historic Route 66. Visit the Arizona Route 66 Museum, located inside the restored Powerhouse Visitor Center, for an engaging look at the road’s history and cultural impact. Spend about 30–45 minutes exploring exhibits that showcase classic cars, vintage road signs, and historic photographs, offering a nostalgic glimpse into America’s golden age of road trips. This stop provides context and storytelling that brings the Route 66 experience full circle.
Just steps from the museum, make a brief stop at Locomotive Park to see the impressive Santa Fe Steam Engine No. 3759, a fully restored 1940s-era locomotive on public display. Spend about 15–20 minutes getting up close to this iconic piece of railroad history, with time for photos and a closer look at the engine’s details. This easy, outdoor stop adds a memorable touch to the Route 66 experience without extending the day.

You visit 2 different mining locations about 90 minutes outside of Vegas as well as a Rte 66 Museum.
It was a great day. Early start. Each stop was interesting. The driver Mathew, was excellent on explaining the days agenda, and answering questions about the area. The visit to Nelson was like visiting a western movie set. The town of Oatman was the same. The burros roam the streets. We ate lunch in town at the old Hotel restaurant. The burgers were good. Would like to have had another thirty minutes to visit more shops. The Kingman stop was awesome with the local museum and the Steam Engine across the street.
We had a great time. It was a great experience overall. We learned a lot of history and saw many interesting and beautiful things.
Had fabulous day, small friendly group & Matthew our driver was a mind full of valuable information.
Matt was a great tour guide. He was very friendly, informative, and fun to tour with!! I recommend the Route 66 tour!!!
Great trip. Tour guild Matthew excellent, very much worth the money. Wasn’t too long either, Matthew was very informative
Great day had informative just get some snacks with you and drink plenty of water the tour guide was great
Long day but super informative, interesting. Guide kept us informed right up until pick up. Transport was comfortable. Mathew was a great guide
Really enjoyed the trip; if you love exploring this one is for you, communication was clear from the start, and Matthew our guide was fantastic. It was a really hot day, and he ensured we all had enough water, and the AC temp was good. He helped take pictures of us as a family, and was really informative about all the locations we visited
You see so much in this trip Nelson ghost town really good Oatman everybody was so friendly Loads of photo opportunities along the way
Sorry for the late review - Matt was an excellent guid, full of knowledge and information on our trip in February. He drove by Laughlin and was able to give me history on the town after telling him I share my name with it. Highly recommended
I used to work for a charity that worked with donkeys so this trip was right up my street. Unfortunately my first trip was cancelled due to insufficient numbers, but Matt and the organisers really helped and they managed to work around my schedule to find an alternative date. Oatman was the highlight for me, but I really enjoyed the ghost town - it is a brilliant place to get great photos. Matt, our guide was excellent. Not only did I enjoy his commentary, which was really informative but I also enjoyed talking to him about life in the USA. I would highly recommend this trip, it is fun, very interesting and Matt is a fantastic guide who went out of his way to ensure we had a great trip. Obrigado Matt
We did a road trip from Vegas with 3 of my friends last summer and made sure to drive along Route 66. Honestly, pictures don't do justice to how cute and nostalgic the whole vibe is! Seeing all the vintage neon signs, retro diners, and classic cars in person was so much better than just looking at photos online.
The company that host the Route 66, Oatman, Nelson Ghost Town SmalGroup Tour from Las Vegas cancelled both of my tours saying they did not have enough people to the tours on the days I had scheduled and paid for. They have refunded one of my tours but have NOT REFUNDED THE SECOND ONE. I will be trying to book these tours at a later day hopefully with a different company.
I would strongly advise others not to book this tour. I was given a pickup time, but no one ever came to pick me up, and an entire day of my time was wasted. Two days before the tour, I received a message saying that the trip might be canceled because there were not enough participants. I told them that I completely understood. They then reassured me not to worry and said they would try to find more people so the tour could still go ahead. On the morning of the tour, I received another message confirming that the trip was proceeding as scheduled and reminding me to be ready on time. I trusted that information, canceled a very busy workday with many patients, and waited outside my house for pickup. After the scheduled pickup time had already passed, I called to ask what was happening. Only then was I informed that the tour had been canceled. This is absolutely not a communication issue. I have clear proof that I repeatedly contacted them, yet no one responded. This is completely unacceptable. I have suffered significant losses because of this situation,
Great Tour. Great tour Guide. This tour was very good but because of what happend with our tour to area 51, I would not want to book a tour again through Viator. Disappointed with Viator, if you have a problem you can not talk to them. Very bad business
The tour was good. Wish we had a little more time at Oatman. I really enjoyed the whole trip. The tour guide really tied everything together.
We had a wonderful time on this tour with Matthew as our tour guide and driver. The places we visited were all wonderful and we loved having free time in Oatman to wander. The icing on the cake for us though was driving on the historic route 66, and Matthew was awesome at taking pictures for our group. He also played great music to go with the nature of the tour.
This was a an Amazing experience that took us to Nelson that started our great time traveling and the Oatman motel was very enjoyable and to finish at the Kingsman museum. Highly recommend and Matthew was very informative and an excellent Host.
Excellent trip, great views of Nevada and Arizona. Mathew was very informative and gave great insight throughout the day. A very enjoyable trip.
My Route 66 tour with Matthew was truly unforgettable. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. Along the way, he shared fascinating stories and local insights that brought the history of Route 66 to life. The tour was well organized, relaxed, and full of memorable stops. Matthew’s enthusiasm and passion made a real difference and turned a great trip into an amazing experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Las Vegas and looking for a unique and memorable day. Thank you, Matthew, for an unforgettable adventure on Route 66!
The Route 66 Ghost Town tour was everything and then some. Matthew, our Forventura guide was quite pleasant and extremely knowledgeable on history of the Nelson and Oatman Mines. The ride along Route 66 to Kingman, AZ was quite an experience. He was very accommodating to everyone in our group making necessary and scenic stops along the way. If you’ve already visited the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and the Vegas strip, I highly recommend this tour.
Matthew has been a amazing tour guide today, if you take a tour with him you definitely won't regret it
This was a great day trip lead by driver/guide Matthew. We visited Nelson ghost town and had an eerie walk round, then Oatman on Route 66 and saw the burros wandering through the town. A real old western friendly town and then onto Kingman on Route 66 and spent time in the amazing Route 66 museum. A highly recommended day trip out of Las Vegas!.
If you have the chance to travel with the Brazilian dude, let me tell you that his conversation about " Origins" is stressful. More than 1 people including me have felt not very please after listening to his "cliche" point of view of nationalities and facial features a person should have.
Excellent trip. Matthew our guide was very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this activity. The burrows in oatman are so cute, and you can feed them.
It was cancelled twice, so we lost 2 days of our holiday, where we could of planned something else instead.
We had a great day, we were picked up at the Golden Nugget and were waiting at the wrong entrance but Mathew rang us and was very good and just said don't rush and off we went, another 2 pick-ups on the way, stopped at Nelson first after a bit of history from Mathew on the way and it was a cool place, then on to Oatman and again some good info given along the way, honestly it would have been nice to have an extra 30min here as there was the gunfight show when we arrived and once that finished and then had a bite to eat we found ourselves rushing which was a shame, from there was another cool drive along route 66 and quick stop at Cool Springs which we thought was great, being from the UK everything we looked at was cool 😂, then on to Kingman which again was nice to see, the museum was ok but we would have exchanged our time in there for some extra at Oatman if I'm being honest, The Santa Fe locomotive was also nice to see, would I ever do that trip again? Yes I would, and another thank you to Mathew for a good day trip
This was a very enjoyable day. Our guide Matthew was very informative. We made several stops along this your and was very accommodating if you needed to make a stop

Matthew, thank you for an amazing day. You showed us a wonderful part of America. You gave us a lot of valuable information about the history, customs, and traditions of the places we visited. We spent time with you in a nice, cheerful atmosphere. I don't think we could have had a better guide. I hope we will meet again. Best Regards Ela, Andrzej from Ireland
Nice trip Mathew was a pleasant guide and took everyone's photos which was nice,it was nice to get of the strip and see part of route66,and stopping off a different places was nice as it breaks up the travelling.
This trip was amazing from start to finish, Matthew our tour guide was brilliant, giving us all the detailed information about each stop and even between travelling to each stop, he also stopped for great photos and took loads for us also, such an amazing trip you have to book this.
Most important tidbit -our tour guide Matthew was PHENOMINAL! His love of outdoor adventure and deep knowledge shines through on this tour. Stop 1 - Nelson Landing, NV. Original gold mine was destroyed, but a family bought it and is trying to restore it back to its original state. Stop 2 - Oatman AZ - a quaint mining village with shops and a gun fight! check out all tve dollar bills wallpapered in one of the shops. Stop 3 - Kingman, AZ - Route 66 museum and a huge steam engine.
Great experience- staring with Nelson Ghost town, then heading to Oatman, AZ, onto Route 66, and seeing Lake Mead overlook. Incredible guide who was very impressive by explaining and the knowledge and passion for the travel and sightseeing. Thank you! Cannot recommend enough!
Incredible experience! Matthew was an amazing tour guide, taking his time explaining, giving insights and overall taking great care of us! Matthew showed incredible care and passion for what he’s doing! Thank you for the great experience!
We did Route 66 Tour on Jan 03 2026 and it was super! Mathew was a fantastic guide, very friendly, accommodative and informative. If we are back to Vegas, we will explore other tours with this company.
Loved the Route 66 tour with Matthew! It felt like a real road trip with friends. The guide was fun, easygoing, and knew all the best stops and stories. One of the best experiences I had in Vegas.
The excursion was excellent! Our guide Mathew was very personable and very knowledgeable! The travel arrangements were very good as we were picked up and dropped off at our hotel. If you like to see what the old west was like and a little history about Route 66 then this is a good trip to take.
Absolutely amazing Route 66 tour! Our guide was knowledgeable and fun, showing us the best spots in Oatman, Kingman, and the Cool Springs stop. Great stories, beautiful views, and real Route 66 spirit. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting the true historic experience!
