They should know that you do not visit an old western town! It is mainly a collection of junk and antiques. I was expecting an old town with a saloon, bank, hotel , general store, etc. Visiting Hoover Dam and an old mine, however was very interesting and informative . I just felt the title of this excursion was misleading!

Itinerary
We will make a photo stop at the second largest Dam in the united states! Built in 1931 the Hoover Dam was the largest and most powerful Dam in the world until 1940! Hoover Dam was so large it spawned a city know was Boulder City (Largest city in Nevada). You will have an opportunity to walk on the second tallest bridge in the USA and step right over the border of Nevada and Arizona! Make sure to bring your fully charged photo device as this location is know for its beautiful picturesque views of the Hoover Dam and other scenic views!
During the late 1800’s, Nelson was extremely remote at the time with the nearest law enforcement in Hiko, NV about 200 miles away. This created lawlessness in true Wild West fashion with many prospectors being Civil War deserters with Renegade Indians hiding out in the canyons. After some time, the minors formed factions between Northern and Southern sympathizers which led to more feuding in the canyon, and killings, which at one point was everyday. There was a renegade Indian named “Queho”who was reportedly Nevada’s first serial killer near the area whose last killing was near the Techatticup Mine in 1919. Nelson was rebuilt after 50 years of inactivity with many buildings being restored to resemble the old mining town. Nelson was also used for two motion pictures, both starring Kurt Russell, Breakdown (1997) & 3000 miles to Graceland (2001). Since then, Nelson has been a destination for wedding photography, photo shoots, and a historical stop on the way to the Colorado River.
The Techatticup Mine Tour is one-hour and 0.25 miles long on gravel that is only one level. This is the oldest mine, and richest, in Southern nevada from 1861 to 1945, where you will see the quartz veins the gold and silver were mined from. The name “Techatticup” derives from the Paiute Indian word for hungry, a term often heard by early settlers from the starving Indians inhabiting the Dry Hills.

The dam tour was interesting. Was disappointed that we didn’t get a view of the downstream side. Also, did not include inside the dam. The ghost mine tour was fun and they had some awesome stuff to look at while waiting. Overall, an enjoyable day.
Definitely one of the most fun experiences we had in Vegas. The mine & ghost town were amazing. Once n a lifetime experience. Definitely would highly recommend
Our tour guide Jay was amazing and very educational about the areas we visited. He made the trip so much fun and views will last a lifetime. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour to anyone.
This experience was awesome!! Our tour guide jay was fantastic. The gold mine was so cool! The scenery was fantastic. I would beyond do this again!
Jay was absolutely amazing! He knew his stuff and we were NEVER bored. He gave us a great tour and suggested a great lunch place !! Amazing and would do it again!!
Highly recommend, our tour guide Lankun aka Mama was just amazing, she was so knowledgeable and helpful. She took heaps of great photos of us. Mama made sure we get the most out of that amazing tour. I’ll definitely recommend this to my family and friends.
Our tour guide Lunkin Weidner (mama) was the very best tour guide I’ve ever had on any tour anywhere across the world that I’ve been in …. she was superb. She was knowledgeable, very helpful, she went above and beyond taking pictures of us, etc..
Lankun was a fabulous tour guide. The best we've had. She was so fun, took care of us and was a fantastic photographer! It was our favourite day in Vegas. Plus the stops were amazing, from the mine to red rock.
We really enjoyed this trip and Lankun was a first class guide who made sure you got the most from your one day trip. We loved the Ghost Town and Gold Mine so unique and a blast from the past. Hoover Dam was a good stop and we really enjoyed the Red Canyon for sunset. Lankun took lots of photographs so we would remember this day. Thank you for the memories.
My husband planned a Birthday getaway for us to Vegas. He knew I loved gold mining and found a day trip to several locations that went to Hoover Dam, Elderado Gold Mine and Red Rocks Park. We were promptly picked up by Lankun Weidner AKA “Momma” She made us feel so comfortable in her vehicle and provided us with waters and tons of Information about the history of Vegas as we drove to our first destination. When we got there she filled us with knowledge and laughter. She even loved taking our pictures. Which she informed us that she is a photographer and loves taking pictures and if we would like that. And of course we said yes. Second stop was gold mine tour and along the way to gold mine tour she filled us with much more information and facts about certain cities and about the roads and wild life. She even knew the family that runs Elderado. By the way great tour. Next we went to lunch and we took her advice to eat BBQ in Boulder City. Absolutely delicious. Take advice from her she knows her stuff. Next we went to Red Rock and hiked back into the the rocks and took more pictures and of course more information about the rocks and the park. Momma made sure we were safe at all times and that we could do the hike. She even provided us with more water. We the. Went down around the park some more and hiked back on to a large rock formation and watched the sunset. She knew all the great spots to go. Our tour was approximately 10 hours long and a lot of fun. The van was comfy and we had controls for our own air conditioning roll down windows and plenty of leg room. She made this trip feel like she was part of our family. We can’t wait to come back and book another trip with her. I highly recommend you choose her. Thanks Momma you made this trip awesome.
Book this trip if you like history with a bit of adventure. Loved every part of this tour but our tour guid was AMAZING the best part of our tour was getting to know Lankun Weidner aka "momma" She was the best!!
Lankun did a great job of explaining everything we saw. She went the extra mail by helping us through the rocky ground and positioned us for the best pictures.
The good mine was our favorite part but we really enjoyed it all. Having the family member Shauna as the tour guide just added incredible depth to the tour. The goats in Boulder City should be added to the tour as the park we stopped in to see them was awesome. Our tour guide Mama was fantastic. She really took good care of us and could have a second career as a photographer. Incredible pictures all day long. We saw lots of great things and will have photographs forever to remind us. Highly recommend.
We had a great time. Our driver Jay was very informative and took his time to show us everyone on the tour and explain it to us. There were only 4 of us and it was very nice to have a one and one. The ghost town had a lot of old things Cars Buses planes and old signs and just a lot of old things. The mine was very interesting and the guide was also very informative. It was very interesting to see how they actually mine gold back then. I can't believe how they made these mines it had to be very hard work. Don't know if that would happen today. If you want to learn things and enjoy a day out without the hassle of big crowds this tour is the one.
Our tour Guide was absolutely GREAT, AMAZING, ONE OF A KIND, VERY KNOWLEGABLE! We learned so much on our tour. So many beautiful sites! The next time we go to Vegas we are definitely going to book this tour again and not at the end of our trip when we are already wore out!!! hahaha
We had "Momma" for a tour guide. She was fantastic!! So accommidating of our needs or wants and so friendly. She was so knowledgeable about the history and geography of the Las Vegas/Lake Mead area. If you are thinking of taking one of these tours ask for "Momma', she was awesome and a great driver!! 🙂The Gold Mine tour guide Bruce was hilarious, he was also very knowledgeable about the history of that area and the people who lived there in the old days. Lots of very interesting things to look at inside the store and outside . We enjoyed the upclose and personal walking tour of the Hoover Dam. Such a massive project and so wonerous,, a must see!! The color of the water in Lake Mead was a beautiful blue!! Great tour, we would highly recommend it!!
Friday, December 9, 2022: If you have been to Las Vegas and would like to expand your entertainment options, you need to look "off the strip". One of the great adventures you can consume is a Gold Mine and outside Hoover Dam Tour with the team at iTravel USA in Las Vegas. On December 9, 2022 I participated in the Gold Mine and Hoover Dam tour with iTravel. The tour started with a pickup at the hotel in well maintained GMC Yukon. The GMC Yukon is usually reserved for private Tours, but we were the beneficiary of a schedule change. The iTravel Team sent this car for us. Jay, our Tour guide has a lot of knowledge about Las Vegas. Although we were there for a Gold Mine and Hoover Dam tour, I took advantage to discuss the Lake Mead water situation and the community development called Summerlin financed by Howard Hughes Investment corp. Your travel in the vehicle is approximately 40 minutes were you land at the site of the El Dorado Canyon, reportedly one of the largest mining sites back in the day for the state of Nevada. This property is a private residence. Do not show up without a plan and definitely follow directions! Once you arrive, there is a waiver to sign and then it is off the the tour. A former National Park Service Ranger that has a great command on the history of the mine, plenty of anecdotes and lots of comedy in the routine, delivered our tour. During the tour, you walk through the actual mine. In your journey, you need to use your imagination to think of the working conditions in the mine and the difficult conditions. The tour also covers how the new owners restored the mine to offer this great experience! While you are at the property, you will see a piece of Hollywood. This site has been used for filming the movie titled: 3000 Miles to Graceland. Furthermore, the property has an eclectic collection of vehicles that the owners have in various state of restoration. Once you have completed the Gold Mine tour, it is on to the Hoover Dam. This is another comfortable ride in the GMC Yukon for about 30 minutes. Upon arrival, you will be on the bridge that looks down at the Hoover Dam and you can take the iconic picture where you are in 2 states at the same time. If you are looking for an inside tour of the Hoover Dam, make sure you book that separately and confirm that activity with your iTravel planner. I highly recommend the tour of the Gold Mine and Hoover Dam. It was a great experience off the strip and provides a lot of great content! Jay our Tour guide was great. Please note, the iTravel team has a number of Tour Options. Based on the professional nature of this tour, I would be inclined to book other tours with this operation. If you have mobility challenges, talk to the team at iTravel to understand your options. The Gold Mine tour is on varied terrain and you will want to know your options prior to the adventure.
We had the Ghost town, Hoover Dam and Red Rock sunset park visit extension tour and it was the highlight of our trip. The tour was excellent, our tour guide Jay was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The tour was a whole day, we got to see and experience a lot. There was a little bit of walking involved, but the tour was organized in such a way that we stayed inside during the hottest time of day. Overall very satisfied with the tour and would recommend anyone who wants to get out of Las Vegas and enjoy some nature.
Our tour was a very nice addition to our Vegas stay. Our driver "Jay" was awesome, he was very informative and entertaining during the whole tour. We will recommend the tour to all of our friends and for them to request Jay for their driver and guide.
We went on the Hoover Dam, Goldmine/ Ghost town tour with Lankun as our guide. We received a text the day before letting us know our pickup time at our hotel. We were the only family on the tour, and it definitely felt like VIP treatment. Lankun is an experienced and knowledgeable guide. She knows the history of the sites, and is outgoing and friendly. She is very attentive to the well-being of the tour passengers, making sure we drank plenty of ice cold water which she provided. Lankun took special care to make sure I was comfortable with the amount of walking we did (I have a bad hip) and provided opportunities for me to rest while my husband had a chance to do more exploring. She took great pictures of us during the tour, too. We loved all the sites we visited. The Hoover Dam is just amazing. The Goldmine/ Ghost Town stop was really fun. The goldmine dates from the late 1800’s, and was abandoned in the 1940’s. The family that owns the goldmine property has constructed a town of sorts on the property with a chapel, houses, many vintage vehicles, and artifacts from the time period that the goldmine was in operation. It is not a ghost town of original abandoned buildings from a time when a town existed there, but it is an interesting stop nonetheless which we enjoyed very much. I highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guide Alex was THE BEST! He gave us a Vegas history lesson that was very insightful. He took us to the best places to take memorable photos. Also, our guide at the Gold Mine, Bruce, was very funny. In sum this was an excellent tour & I would recommend it to anyone.
Comfortable ride.offe best part was the ghost mine tour. The ghost town guides were amazing. Trip guide is a good hardworking fellow who will answer any questions you have. Lived here for long enough to have a deep knowledge of the area. Think inflation and housing prices are getting to us all. But we all feel that pain.
We were vacationing, looking for something to do off the strip, searching on line found the ghost town tour with the mines to explore, with a Hoover dam stop. Was a great day not to long (6hrs) Best part is having Jay for our guide he is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, he connected with everyone in our group of 6 ! When our day ended , we knew we were lucky to have Jay ! He was fantastic making our day perfect !! Ask for Jay!
Our whole experience was wonderful from the time Jay picked us up till he dropped us off. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and caring. He was very attentive to our safety and comfort. His driving was excellent. I can’t say enough good about Jay. You are very fortunate to have him represent your company Because of Jay our Las Vegas trip will be a sweet memory. Mary Lou Saucier
This was an excellent day out, made even better by our guide, Jay he was great fun and very knowledgeable, I would definitely recommend this trip and you should definitely ask for Jay!!
My tour guide was Lankun, she gave us relevant information about the places we were visiting. My favorite part of the trip was hiking up to Guano Point. Lankun took time to take pictures for everyone in the group. She was thoughtful to identify the perfect background sceneries for the tour members, and actively involved to help them take pictures.
Our tour guide Jay/Lakun picked us up at our hotel in Vegas for a five hour trip to the Hoover Dam and ghost town mine. We stopped at a park on the way with amazing views and inhabited by Longhorn sheep. We had an amazing time Jay was knowledgeable attentive and friendly and made us feel like VIPs, Jenn and I absolutely recommend him and his tour company to anyone looking for an exceptional trip while in Vegas thanks again Jay for a wonderful time.
This tour was very interesting and I really enjoyed the mine tour and ghost town part. All of it was great and so was our tour guide Jay. He was very knowledgeable and led us on a great tour! I would highly recommend this tour!
This trip was the ultimate VIP. Picked up from our hotel, and provided with water. Jay was the best and made our trip extra personal. He made sure we got all the pictures and had a great time!
No ghost on this tour, my fault for reading too quick but we throughly enjoyed the tour. Takes you to hoover dam, ghost town with a mine, and then red rock. It was very customizable. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about everything. She took great photos and made sure we were comfortable at all times. Our tour guide was Lankun. I felt like she went above and beyond.
The experience was very personalized and our guide, Jay, put a lot of attention to detail and was extremely kind. We enjoyed seeing the Hoover dam very much as well as a very interesting experience at the ghost town / mine tour. Lots of history and interesting facts. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something unique outside the strip!
Overall great tour! Funny tour guide, and full of interesting history. It was neat to see into the old gold mine. I would have liked to go a little further in but not sure if that was possible. Our shuttle driver Reuben was great! Very nice guy and knowledgeable about the Hoover Dam history. He even took us to see the Colorado river!
Amazing tour guide made the trip so much fun and interesting facts My family found the guide to make the experience so much better
Amazing day. Lorenzo was fantastic. Beautiful scenery. Red rock was incredible Would highly recommend
I had an amazing experience on this tour. Our tour guide Lankun aka Mama was amazing, informative, and funny. She says that she isn’t a professional photographer but I would pay for the awesome pictures she took of us. She is great with teens as well. She was kind an attentive. SHE WILL MAKE YOU DRINK PLENTY OF WATER! She took us to see the most beautiful views. It was breath taking. She was also very patient with an older couple that went on the tour with us younger and more able bodied tourist. 13 year old Godson: “Mama was cool.”
Momma!! Oh my goodness it's been nearly a week since our tour and we've talked about it everyday! Lankun our tour guide also known as Momma, was fantastic and by the end of the day felt more like family! She was amazing, and knew so much about everywhere we went. Not only did she tell us about the history of the areas we were driving through, she was sending us links so that we could do some research of our own. I definitely recommend taking any tour that she can guide you on. She is both an incredible person, and tour guide! I am looking forward to booking another tour with her soon!
Starting with the positives, our tour guide, Lankun, was timely, efficient, and always concerned for our safety and comfort. She certainly knows her information! We also appreciated the photos she took frequently, and went the extra mile to send to us. The Hoover Dam is phenomenal, and it's disturbing to see how low the water levels of Lake Mead have gotten....very scary, and actually seeing it really drives home the concern. One major complaint, however: Upon ending the tour, we wondered why we had not visited a ghost town, and inquired about it. It was at that point that we were informed that the mine is TWO parts of the tour - the gold mine and the ghost town. At no point was that indicated, either by Lankun or the tour description on this site. If one looks at the title of the tour, the way it is written (with commas separating items), it appears that there are three different stops. Even the itinerary breakdown on the site indicates different stops, unless one opens each bullet point. We were under the mistaken impression that we would see an old gold mine, and then visit an old-time ghost town (one abandoned by gold prospectors, NOT one with ghost and spirits), and end with a visit to Hoover Dam. Although I communicated this to the tour company manager (owner?) and suggested a monetary compensation for the misleading title and itinerary, he declined. We are, needless to say, unsatisfied and disappointed.
Tour was excellent. We were a group of 11 ranging in age from 13 to 60’s. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we saw lots of great sights. Ghost town and gold mine tour was a neat combination of history and Hollywood. Hoover Dam is a modern day marvel. Red Rocks was absolutely gorgeous with lots of opportunities for everyone to climb, hike and just enjoy the scenery. Our tour guide, Lankun, did a great job throughout. Knowledgeable, professional and made sure everyone in our party had a good day. Highly Recommend!!
The mine tour is the perfect get away from the strip because it’s nice and cool inside the mine and away from all that dry heat!!Bruce the mine guide called himself the rarest gem and I agree!! He needs a raise because he is absolutely awesome!! He was hilarious and knowledgeable. Rueben our driver and Hoover dam guide was amazing as well. Very knowledgeable and sweet. He helped us get the best photos at the dam and of lake Meade!!! The bus was clean and at the perfect temperature!! We had the bus to ourselves which made our tour feel more personable! My only tip for this tour is make sure you wear walking shoes and make sure you have plenty of space on your phones for pictures because you will take a million of them!! It’s so much to take pictures of and take in!! Make sure you read the signs around the property’s the mine, they are funny!! My best friend and I are still talking about this adventure because it was legit fun!!
Definitely a fun day trip. Gold Mine was very educational, as well as Hoover Dam. Red Rock tour was amazing. Had a wonderful tour guide.
Lorenzo was the perfect tour guide. He loves his job which made the day most enjoyable. He put his all into making our day the best it can be! Highly recommend.
Excellent tour, excellent tour guide! Lorenzo was awesome, he even became our personal photographer for the day. It was just our group so we took a van (but there’s bathrooms at every stop don’t worry). We were also given plenty of water! All of the stops were great and we even made a few small extra scenic stops for more views and photos. Red rock canyon is so beautiful it’s a must visit! We went on a few little trails around the park. I highly highly highly recommend this tour! Lorenzo also took us to in-n-out for lunch because we’re from the east coast and had never been lol (but of course you can go wherever you’d like). Thank you so much for a great tour we’d definitely want to book from this group again next time!
Excellent tour! Lorenzo is an awesome guide and is very knowledgeable. Worth it for sure and highly recommend :)
What a cute little place! You can see the old mining entry on the side of the hill. Because the owners of the town actually live on site in some of the buildings, jerks from the past have messed things up a bit so you must check in at the 'store' and donate $1/person to walk around taking pictures - which is no big deal. We did this instead of a tour. Lots of cool buildings to check out. Can see some desert critters if you look close enough :) Talked with the owner a little, too - nice family! Best of luck to them on continuing their business without some people's foolishness!
Lorenzo was amazing. He is very knowledgeable. He even took pictures for us. We would love to have him on another tour
The mine was super interesting and unique. The location was a quirky mix of education and fun. My son and I loved it. Seeing the Hoover dam was cool, but the views at Red Rock were stunning. There were so many different, beautiful settings that my son tackled for the perfect picture. Our guide Lorenzo knew more than I could even think to ask. We chatted all day long and I learned so much. It was truly a great experience.
This was a great side trip from Vegas. We got to go inside the goldmine and see just how hard extracting the gold was. The tour guide was extremely friendly and informative. He modified our tour to fit the groups desires. Awesome.
The van driver was very professional and polite. However, even after I confirmed that my planned tour was sill ok, a few days in advance. Once on the van, then I found out the Hoover Dam was closed. So, thst part of the trip was missing. Why they would confirm the trip was ok, even advertising it, if the Hoover Dam was closed, and they knew that, when I checked if the tour was operating and ok , in advance of going?
Adam was a great guide for the day! He brought a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm. The trip itself was a perfect blend of a tour (looking) and a chance to do a little light hiking.
