My husband and I have done this trip twice before and I can say that it was disappointing. Spencer, the tour guide, was good, even though I didn't know the speed limit at times went up to 80mph. I am so glad we got to see the Hoover Dam in past adventures because that was one of the things that changed. You had to walk up steps to get to the bridge, (which with my disability I couldn't do). I guess I didn't read the fine print. Companies used to take you to the top and you could look out at the Dam. There used to be a little store that you could visit. On to Chloride, which was great, but missed some of the shops we used to visit. It was still great. Oatman never disappoints. The donkeys are always friendly. Nelson was our last stop and that was great as well. Overall the trip was good. I just didn't care for some of the changes, but unfortunately probably necessary.

Itinerary
After pickup from your Las Vegas hotel, take a short drive by comfortable van to the Hoover Dam for a brief photo stop. This 726-foot (221-meter) dam holds back the mighty Colorado River, behind which you’ll find Lake Mead, a beautiful man-made reservoir contained within the Black Canyon walls. Take all the ‘dam’ photos you want!
Next, head to the small mining town of Chloride, a community that has survived the harsh desert environment since the 1860s. Silver and other minerals were mined here for decades, and after the mining boom was over, Chloride nearly became a ghost town. Today, Chloride is home to about 250 residents who are very proud of their mining history. Browse the antique shops; admire the various artistic sculptures; and chat with the locals before enjoying lunch.
Next, drive along the Historic Route 66 highway to the small ghost town of Oatman.
The present-day population of this ghost town is 150 people and one poltergeist who goes by the name of ‘Oatie the Ghost.’ He’s believed to be the poor spirit of William Ray Flour, an Irish miner who died behind the Oatman Hotel. Enjoy views of the Black Mountains and the tumbleweeds and wild burros that freely roam through the town. Have your picture taken alongside modern-day cowboys and bandits while posing in front of an authentic Route 66 sign. You'll also have a chance to take part in a Western shootout. Held in the middle of the street, this Western-style event features cowboys in costume standing face-to-face, ready to draw. Enjoy a drink at a local saloon (at own expense) before traveling through the Mojave Desert along the Veterans Memorial Highway, a road that cuts straight through empty desert landscape. Your last stop before returning to the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas will be in El Dorado, which was named by the Spaniards who discovered gold in the area. This town served as the backdrop for many famous western movies and also housed the famous Techatticup Mine, where millions of dollars worth of gold and silver have been unearthed.
Your tour will conclude with drop-off at your original departure point.

It was a beautiful tour, our guide was professional, full of knowledge and stories which we enjoyed listening to on route. He took us to beautiful settings with a lovely lunch and plenty of water. The car was beautiful and spacious and we have nothing but positive memories. Thank you
Dylan was knowledgeable and had great energy. His music playlist was on point. Oatman was the best of all three. The last stop had really cool artifacts.
Chris was really knowledgeable able the area. Was a good day out. Saw the Hoover dam, and ghost towns , all different, but good
Loved the time spent in Oatman AZ…our guide Adrian was EXCELLENT! I would liked to of had more time in Oatman…a minimum of 2 hours!
Joel was a fantastic guild, full of knowledge and historical information. The tour didn't feel rushed and we have plenty of free time to wonder round the 3 ghost towns visited. Joel was engaged and made the tour very much enjoyable. Lunch was provided which was delicious. Would highly recommend and would definitely book again if in Vegas.
Las Vegas 4 day stay at the Mirage & tips My wife and I had a good time in Vegas, we stayed at the mirage, which we found to be in the center of Las Vegas Blvd. making it easy to get to just about anywhere, plus access to the free tram. ( there are two trams one is free the other you pay for) a cab from the airport to the hotel $30.00 about a 20 minute ride. Check in at the hotels are around 4pm, so if you get there earlier, you won’t be able to check in, so check your bags with the bell men. Since we arrived early we had a 4 hour wait, so we used the time to scope out the hotel and we’re the pool was located and it’s hours of operation. At the Mirage the pool opened at 9am but people got on line 1/2 hour earlier,in order to get a free chair before everyone rushes to get one, otherwise your stuck having to pay for one. You’ll also will fine that some people just put their towels down on the chairs and then walkway not to be seen for hours. Best times for the pool and chairs early morning or after 230 pm. Another tip bring a small collapsing cooler, to bring to the pool ( no glass allowed) Once our room was ready, we just called down to the bell men and our luggage was brought up very quickly. Once we unpacked, we went across the street to Walgreens and purchased waters and other drinks, snacks,to keep in our room in ice buckets, otherwise things can get expensive. If you’re looking for reasonable food cost, I would recommend going to the miracle mile shopping mall it’s about a 20 minute walk from the mirage. Breakfast at the hotels for two can run from 60 to $80. At the miracle mile we got, two eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, for $5.00 at la Salas which opens at 8am across from there is Blondies, also good deals on breakfast and lunch, there is also a place in the miracle mile we’re anything on the lunch menu is $5.00 we saw it and there was a line for it,so we ate at earl of sandwiches, two small hero’s and free refills for two cost us $21.00, wear comfortable shoes there’s a lot of walking.,hotels seem close to each other but believe me there not, my wife and I were doing about 20 to 25000 steps per day that’s 10 plus mile’s per day Suggestion bring or buy at cvs or Walgreens, liquid I.v. Great for exhaustion and hang overs, it works quick you mix it with your water. Also be careful of individual trying to sell you VIP concert passes, it’s a scam, only a promotor can give out VIP passes, and thief usually free. Hope I’ve given you some insight, Enjoy Vegas. I found the best time was Labor Day ( Sunday to Thursday) we found it less crowded.
The Hoover Dam, Oatman Ghost Town, the beautiful landscapes, and the amazing history our tour guide provided! Our tour guide was Chris Urban and he was impressive. His knowledge and the historical information he provided made the tour unforgettable for my husband and me. Thanks Chris!
Communication with the booking office was excellent. We cancelled and re-booked, hassle free. Thank you ladies for your great service and understanding. This was a great adventure for all 10 of us. Indy is a great historian and provided us with the background and history of each town we visited. He is very informative, patient and personable. The scenery along route 66 were amazing. We enjoyed the lunch too. I would definitely recommend Bindlestiff Tours to friend who are going to venture in this part of the US in the future.
A great day trip if you want a break from Vegas strip ! Indy our tour guide was very personable and knowledgeable. Enjoyed beautiful scenic drive and even drove on parts of RT 66 . Visited 3 “ ghost” towns though Chloride wasn’t interesting but really enjoyed oatman. The wild burros were definitely a highlight
Our tour guide Joel was exceptional. We enjoyed the historical stories of the past. His knowledge of this area is very informative. He was very accommodating and all the stops were well planned.
The trip was really good. The ghost towns are really out there and not very populated. Loved the town of Oatman with the burros and the shootout. Great time by my wife and I. El Dorado was kinda of not so hot to visit. Perhaps replace that with more time in Oatman or some other place in future.
We took this trip on a Saturday, with our guide Joel. The whole day was very interesting, Joel being a mine of information. He clearly does a lot of research and reading, and is more than willing to pass all of this on. The ghost towns are absolutely fascinating, and a total contrast to the madness that is the Las Vegas strip. The only reason I've given it 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is a lot of driving in between each town, although the amount of time spent in each one is about right. A really enjoyable day out.
We did this day trip this month and I would recommend it to anyone that would like get out of Vegas for the day and see some small mining towns. Our driver Alex was a wealth of information regarding the history of these towns. Being only a small group it was personal and comfortable. Thanks for a great day guys!
We really enjoyed the Ghost Town Tour Day, Blindlestiff Tours with Evan. He was very polite, and professional. He explained every Ghost Town sites very precise.
Overall a good experience. Lots of countryside seen tour guide was very informative and the small group made the journey very pleasant. The site visits were ok however I was disappointed with the towns for some reason I was just expecting more. The information provided by the tour guide was more interesting. Overall a good day if you are looking at experiencing a trip on Route 66.
Get away from the noisy city and explore the small quiet cities of the ghost towns. Our guide was very knowledgeable and he kept us very entertained.
This trip took in four stops. The bridge overlooking Hoover Dam, Chloride, Oatman and Nelson. The stop at Hoover Dam was 20 minutes. The stop at Chloride was 40 minutes but really was just some people’s houses and a shop.Oatman however was fab, yet we only had one hour. This meant time to look at the small jail, have a very quick drink in the saloon, watch the gunfight (which was done for charity, maybe because it was out of season but it was a fight between two men and a teenage boy who was the sheriff. They were good and I did enjoy it but it is a stretch to call it professional, as I say it could be because it is out of season). We had a quick walk down the street and then we had to leave. It would have been nice if the company had booked a table for lunch in the saloon. The final stop of Nelson was somebodies house filled with Knick knacks and a garden full of cars and machinery. There were certain areas only tour groups could go. I think that the company should have included a tour, again we had 45 minutes but it wasn’t very big. A tour may have bought it to life a bit.Overall one star for Oatman the star of the day, one star for the guide who was knowledgeable. But it was far too expensive, not enough time in the one place with things to look at, too much time in places that wern’t worth it (not in winter at any rate), a tour would have been nice in Nelson.
This tour was amazing. We went to Chloride, Oatman and El Dorado. My favorite was Oatman when we had lunch with the burros. It was a lot of fun and our guide was great.
This was a great day full of wonderful information on the history tour guide Chris was the best it was a great day from start to finish Chris made sure everyone on the tour was ok would highly recommend this tour
Bindlestiff Tours out of Vegas are a superb way to see much more of the fabulous area without all the aggravation of car rental and this Ghost Town tour was a great example of seeing the most wonderful old west towns that are just stunning and the photo's are memorable . Early pick up at your Hotel followed by a great photo stop at Hoover Dam then on through CHLORIDE , OATMAN and EL DORADO ( yes it really does exist !!). Just wonderful including Clark Gables honeymoon suite in Oatman ! The advantage of these tours is the fantastic superb guides and Mike was a great example of this . Soooo knowledgable friendly helpful funny and an all round good guy who you can't help but like , just sets the right tone , the genuine artivle , no smulch required . This tour is sooo good i'd do it again tomorrow .Highly recommended .
From start to finish Mike made the day amazing. Want to get out of Las Vegas and see some amazing sites then this one day tour is for you!
<p>We had a great time on this tour! Our guide, Mike was very informative and very friendly. He was top-notch to say the least. If you want to get away and take a break from the gambling and the smoke filled casinos, this is a great excursion.</p>
<p>Excellent great trip, had the tour guide all to ourselves and it turned out to be one of the best trips we have done. Was such fun and we where made to feel at ease with the tour guide Michael who was entertaining and fun</p>
I joined this one day tour and I have really enjoyed each and every moment of it. Mike, the tour guide, was absolutely outstanding
<p>We had a thoroughly enjoyable day exploring the ghost towns and Mike our guide was extremely knowledgeable and kept us amused and interested with his stories and detailed history of Chloride,Oatman and Nelson Arizona. We would highly recommend this tour and if you are lucky enough to get Mike as your guide you will be in for a very entertaining day.</p>
<p>This tour was the highlight of our short trip to Vegas. Mike our guide was so good he was informative all the way and answered all our questions and we were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour on the day so really was a special experience a great varied trip that exceeded our expectations</p>
<p>There were only 4 of us on this trip so we had the personal services of guide Joel who had the most amazing knowledge about the desert and the history of the area. If the bus had been full it would have been a bit of an uncomfortable journey though. It was a fantastic day - the only criticism would be that the lunch was disappointing - wet rolls, crisps and a del monte fruit pot!</p>
<p>Great host. Wish we had a little more time in some of the places especially Oakham. Towns we visited not quiet due to numerous fellow toutists and bikers, however this did not detract from visits which were still very enjoyable and informative.</p>
<p>Oatman excellent. Not impressed with El Dorado. Waste of time.</p>
<p>Amazing and very interesting tour. Our tour guide Khriss did a great job! Gave us a lot of information about this tour. From Hoover Dam up to Chloride, Oatman and El Dorado. Best part of it was the St Patrick's day parade in Chloride.</p>
<p>What a great day we had. There were only 4 of us on this trip, so we had almost one on one attention from Michael our driver and guide. First stop Chloride and a meeting with 'Digger Dave'. This has to be one of the most bizarre and fascinating places I have ever visited. Not for what this town offers just how the people live and function on a day by day basis.</p> <p>Next stop Oatman. Another great experience and given it was on Route 66 just added to the fascination of this town. Seeing Donkeys Burro's simply wandering around this one street town was an experience on its own. Oatman calls itself the 'town which refuses to die' - and I certainly hope they are right because I would love to visit it again.</p> <p>Last stop El Dorado. Now this really is a ghost town, albeit during the time of our visit, a photographic shoot complete with scantilly clad ladies descended on the town. Very enjoyable !!</p> <p>Michael our bus driver and guide was superb and would thoroughly recommend this tour. Excellent value for money.</p>
<p>Excellent all round trip, driver/tour guide was extremely personable and knowledgeable, great day all round, the real USA</p>
<p>Fantastic trip! Our guide was very imformative and seemed to know alot about the history of Vegas and the towns that we visited. Oatmen was really enjoyable, i cant believe people love out there! Long time travelling to each place in the minibus, but it was fully air-coned and the other guests on the tour were good company! The lunches were great, more than i thought we were going to get. Would definatley recommend to get away from the hustle of vegas for the day!</p>
<p>guide very good<br/> great day out<br/> lunch could be better</p>
<p>The heat was just so bad. It was the Aujgust day that Vegas reached one degree under the all-time heat record. I enjoyed the scenery, especially around Oatman . The guide was pleasant, but I feel that the company should have checked in that morning to find out the times of the gunfight and kept in touch with our guide. Because of sickness the gunfight times were changed. To be told at 1 pm that the next fight was at 2.15, and that we would have to wait around in that phenomenal heat for another hour, was too much. We voted to leave. .... And I got bitten on the arm by a burro!</p>
<p>Tour guide was informative, polite, and knowledgeable. Pick up and drop off went very smooth. Van was brand new and very nice. Box lunches were good as well! Would recommend.</p>
<p>A well paced day trip, starting with a half hour stop to view The Hoover Dam and continuing on to three very different cowboy ghost towns - Chloride in the old silver mining region, Oatman, a real feel of the old West, and Eldorado, tiny but compelling. The guide, Chris, was extremely informative with a relaxed sense of humour, always approachable and tolerant of numerous requests for photo stops.</p>
<p>Great Tour and a lot of fun well worth doing, the day went very quickly and our tour guide was informative and made things interesting.</p>
<p>This was by far the best trip we have had so far. The mini bus was very comfy and pick up was on tine. The guide Kriss was outstanding and kept us entertained the whole day with his stories. The scenery is outstanding and the ghost towns gave us plenty to think about. If you only have time for 1 trip, then this is it.</p>
<p>Excellent tour guide who knew so much about the places visited ( thanks Mike!). It was so good to see the wonderful areas surrounding Vegas along with some incredible scenery. Well worth doing.</p>
<p>Brilliant trip, Great driver and guide, we had a great day. Would do this trip again if we were in Las Vegas. Would recommend to anyone going to Las Vegas. Can't believe we have gone to Vegas for ten years and never found this trip. Done every other but this was so different and good loved it.</p>
<p>My husband and I are so happy we selected the Wild West Day Tour to be a part of our Las Vegas Vacation. It truly was an amazing adventure!! The Hoover Dam was beautiful. Our tour guide Mike was wonderful. He was so Informative and had lots of positive energy. We definitely will be doing another tour with Viator.</p>
<p>This tour was a bit to much driving for tha amount of time we were allowed to stay in the ghost towns the driver lovely and entertained us on way to towns ,the towns excellent just would of liked to spend more time in them but can't fault the driver she was lovely .</p>
<p>Really good trip chris the tour guide was brilliant loads of info, because there was only four of us on the tour made it even better 7 sweater . Met some lovely people at the small towns</p>
<p>really enjoyed this tour. our guide jd was good. the little towns and the people are so friendly, just dont eat your dinner where the donkeys are, or do as it is sooo funny</p>
<p>We had a blast! Khriss our tour guide was amazing. He was very knowledgable of everything we did and even drove by. A 10 hour tour went by quickly. The towns were great. The desert landscape was a new picture with every turn. I kept Khriss' card and will definitely use your company again and recommend it to everyone. Only under the condition we can have Khriss as our tour guide again. </p> <p>Sincerely,<br/> Amy, Joe, Victoria and Joey Rozzi</p>
<p>I enjoyed it very much our tour guide Chris was great very informative gave good history of all locations even knew the plants. He keep us comfortable and hydrated and everyone on the tour was friendly. I was able to get wonderful pictures of every place we went. It was great.</p>
<p>This was a great tour! We were the only people booked on so we got our own personal tour for the day. Our tour guide Mike was very knowledgeable and funny, he even helped us plan our drive to LA later in the week. The towns we visited were all pretty varied and interesting in different ways.</p>
<p>This is an excellent tour! A real insight in to real America for us Brits staying in Las Vegas! A wander around the abandoned buildings of Chloride, the old Jail, the gas station and the friendly folk at the bar was great. Then on to Oatman via Route 66 for a gun fight in the street was good fun. We posed with guns at Jimmy Hornfeathers store.<br/> Then on to the spooky town of El Dorado for the ghastly sights in the guest room! Move over Norman Bates. Youll have to take the tour to know what im on about!<br/> But best of all was our tour guide Mick, nothing was too much trouble, he was knowlegeable and friendly he made sure we took all the dam pictures we wanted. (Hoover Dam) We hope hes having fun with his genuine Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet!</p> <p>Tony and Brenda Rudd</p>
