We had an absolutely fantastic 3-day, 2-night trip with Cat Ba Ventures and can wholeheartedly recommend it! The tour offered a wonderful combination of kayaking, swimming, cycling, trekking and exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba Island, away from the main tourist crowds. Travelling in a small group of around 14 people made the experience relaxed, personal and truly special. Our boat was a little older but comfortable, and the crew took excellent care of us throughout the trip. A special thank you to our guides Tony and Hang! Both were fantastic: friendly, funny, knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. They shared fascinating insights into local life and made every activity enjoyable. Their little magic tricks were the perfect finishing touch! Our third guide, who showed us around Viet Hai village, was also excellent – unfortunately, we cannot remember his name. As a vegan family, we were particularly impressed by how thoughtfully the team accommodated our dietary needs. They prepared delicious plant-based alternatives for us throughout the trip. We only had to bring our own plant-based milk. This made us feel genuinely welcome and well looked after. One unforgettable highlight was jumping straight into the water from our cabin window! All in all, a fantastic experience combining beautiful nature, adventure, genuine hospitality and a wonderful team. If you want to discover Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba beyond the usual tourist routes, we highly recommend Cat Ba Ventures. Five stars from our family – thank you for three unforgettable days!

We had an exciting 3 days of adventures with Cat Ba Ventures. Hank was our guide on the boat for day 1, Viet took us on the hike up Navy Peak and Tony was on the boat for night 2 and day 3 - they were all fantastic and so knowledgeable, able to give us information on Vietnamese life & traditions and answer all of our questions (Hank is also an amazing magician). Every activity is well planned and on time, you have to think of nothing. The crew on board were super friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. Thank you to all involved!

We had a great private hiking tour with Viet, a very social, knowledgeable and funny guide. He showed us around the cat Ba national park with extraordinary views.

We had a wonderful private tour with our excellent guide Cong and the boat crew for our honeymoon trip. Waking up in the morning to a dream-like landscape with very few other boats around, learning a lot about the local culture and nature from our guide, and enjoying some true adventures on the kayak (hiding in a small cave while watching a storm and listening to stories about the four sacred animals of Vietnam will be forever unforgettable!), bouldering, and trekking up monkey Island (although we weren’t lucky enough to see the monkeys)…Cong was very knowledgeable and the promise to show us less touristy areas was definitely kept - with just one quick stop in the more crowded Ha Long Bay to see the bat cave (which we loved!). But even there, Cong managed to show us some smaller bays and secret spots with no other people around. Really amazing experience!! Also the service from pickup to drop off was absolutely flawless. Big thanks to the whole team of Cat Ba Ventures!

Like dream, ninh the guide was excellent great english and good sense of humour , we all had good good time. Going back to reality will be difficult. Nine cares about the environment and had a great understanding of the terrain.

We have booked a private tour for the 7 of us and the trip was absolutely amazing. They handled the transport to and from cat ba making it super convenient and easy, and were able to accommodate shellfish allergy while providing amazing and delicious food. Our guide Ninh was absolutely fantastic and made sure that everyone did what they wanted and had a fantastic time. He was shifting things as required to make the trip better for us. We had an absolute blast and would definitely recommend taking a trip with them. The kayaking, swimming and cycling was lots of fun and the views were to die for.

We had an incredible private boat tour in Ha Long Bay with our family and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Cat Ba Ventures did an amazing job from the beginning to the end, transfers to and from the cable car were seamless. The activities were fantastic, with excellent kayaking and biking opportunities that allowed us to explore the stunning scenery up close with no crowds. The food was outstanding throughout the trip—fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. The crew and our guide were wonderful: friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile to make our trip special. The boat itself was heavenly to stay on, with breathtaking views from every angle, comfortable and well-appointed rooms, and a lovely dining area where we enjoyed each meal. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, creating a relaxing and memorable experience. This cruise was nothing short of perfection. I did it with my whole family and girlfriend and we had the time of our lives, with amazing views, always entertaining activities and one of the best crews we could’ve asked for, Tu the captain, Dai the chef and Duoi the housekeeper. And our guide for the whole trip, Ninh, was just amazing, he did every activity with us and talked us through every step of each day and he became a very good friend by the end. I would book this tour again

We really enjoyed our two night three day Cat Ba adventure. The hosts, Guides, and accommodations were excellent. As well the food was first rate. We biked, swam, kayaked, hiked, saw a fish farm, and paddled through rock tunnels. Our activity guides were really interesting and informative and fun when we ventured out. I learned a lot about the area and culture. As well the area is beautiful. Some of the activities require a certain level of fitness to ensure you’re able to fully enjoy your self. For example the hike is a bit difficult but definitely a rewarding challenge. We also really enjoyed meeting other guests on the boat. There are some great people out there. Lots of fun.

We booked a trip for 2 nights and 3 days and it was one of the most amazing experiences we’ve had so far in Vietnam!! What an amazing company “Cat Ba Ventures” is. Everything, from the pickup in Hanoi, to the trip itself and everything included, was just amazing. On our first day we stayed with a guide called “Ben”. What an amazing person he is. He knows so much about the country and shared so many interesting things with us. He also has such a positive vibe and made the whole first day even more special. Because we were the only ones who booked 2N 3D on our boat, after the first day, full of beautiful experiences, we got picked up the next day after breakfast by a different guide from Cat Ba Ventures called “Viet”! He had planned a trip to a nearby town called “Viet Hai” and it was incredible! We had a whole day with a private tour guide who showed us around by bicycle. He even showed us hidden spots we would have never seen without him! It was such an incredible experience!!! Viet was also such a positive guy who taught us a lot about the country, heritage and so on!! After our private tour with Viet, we got transported back to the boat, where we met new people because the group we had spent time with on our first day had already left the boat. Then we also met our last guide called Hang. Wow, so much energy and such positive vibes as well. I very quickly realised it’s the company and the crew themselves — they hire people you immediately love! Every tour guide had his own jokes, tricks etc. that they were willing to share! To come to an end: I highly recommend “Cat Ba Ventures” for a tour in Cat Ba! For me, it was one of the best organized tours I have ever had! From transport, to food, to vibes, to views, to guides etc. If I ever come to Vietnam again, I would probably book 2 nights and 3 days again.

We had a blast, great tour with our guides Ninh, Ben and Winny. The kayaking and swimming were our favorite activities, the view from navy peak was also amazing!

We did a private 2n/3d tour on the Dai Duong 06 junk and it was fabulous. Our guide, Windy, was very kind and helpful to our two sons and it was such a special experience. We did lots of kayaking, swimming, deep water soloing (our elder son climbs), visited hidden lagoons and the bat cave and saw the highly endangered Cat Ba langurs twice! We also climbed to Navy Peak, cycled to Viet Hai, visited a fish farm, did some squid fishing and saw the bioluminescence in the water, visited a small beach and had some of the most amazing food we’ve eaten since arriving. The food was a very pleasant surprise as we didn’t really expect much and it was phenomenal. Thank you very much Cat Ba Ventures and all of the staff we encountered.

We booked a 3 day / 2 night trip to mainly deep water solo and do other activities. Our crew was amazing, especially our guide Ninh. Knowledgeable, friendly, and up for anything we wanted to do. I also have to give a shoutout to the cook. Our meals were INCREDIBLE.

Overall, we had a great experience with Cat Ba Ventures. The crew were excellent, and our guide, Ninh, was particularly fantastic. On the first night he helped us go squid fishing and shared some wonderful stories about the area and his previous experiences, which really added to the trip. He truly is an asset to your team and made the experience even more memorable. The three days two nights was definitely worth it. Our only criticism is the showers need renovations, it’s not matching the other great elements of the trip. The showers are so bad they let down the rest of the trip, fix them and make them modern and functional this will be a huge improvement. The other thing is there could be a really nice angle for the business to become more ecologically conscious by letting the tourists clean up the rubbish when they go kayaking, make this part of the trip. It makes us feel good and protects your beautiful surroundings for others to enjoy too.

From first connection, all was great! Arrangements were easy. They picked us up at our home stay on Cat Ba, brought us to the delightful boat that felt “very authentic” but was comfortable. It is an old boat which might be described as “held together by paint” so don’t expect some glitzy, luxe experience. It all added to the charm. Lunch was fantastic; the chef prepared every meal, each of which had multiple courses, with care in his impossibly tiny kitchen. Food was definitely a highlight of this trip, as nearly everywhere in Vietnam. Our guide, Ninh, was a great facilitator of understanding of the area. And politics, economy, culture of Vietnam. We kayaked, swam, cycled, explored remote caves and beaches, saw skies full of stars. We hiked up to the top of Navy Peak: tough but totally worthwhile. Fished for squid, which we then ate. Beds were comfortable and rooms were cozy. We were two couples, in our sixties, had lots of laughs, really enjoyed our time. Book with these guys if you have a taste for something cool. You won’t regret it!

It was a very well organised tour. The activities we did were great, especially the hike to the peak. The view was amazing. The boat was a little bit outdated and could do with a refit. The food on the boat was decent, but nothing special. We had 3 different guides during our tour (Ben, Jack and Tony), all of whom were very nice and spoke good English.

We did a 2 day, one night cruise in the bays around Cat Ba. We went kayaking through caves to a beautiful lagoon and swam on a beach. Benmitto was our guide and had *lots* of interesting information. Not only about the nature, but also the history and culture. The boat was very comfortable. Booking and transportation were well organized, everyone spoke excellent English as well. The only thing that could have been better was the food. They ingredients were good, but it was made bland for tourists. Some people like that, but it would have been nice if there were one or two dishes made the traditional Vietnamese way with spices!

Very beautiful stay on the cruise. Cat Ba Ventures was really able to bring us to the more secluded areas with less other tourists! The food was delicious and the guides Kong, Ninh and Viet were really friendly and sharing interesting cultural insights!

Cat Ba Ventures were excellent! We were picked up in Hanoi and taken via the superb new gondola to Cat Ba where we enjoyed 3 wonderful days in the Ha Long Bay area. The boat was clean , the food was good and plentiful and we enjoyed the company of our guides. Ben has excellent English and even managed to find the Langur monkeys for us. Tony was also a good guide looking after us in the caves. Loved the trip! The transfer to our hotel in Haiphong was also very well organised

Me and my friends enjoyed a lovely tour on Cat Ba island, Lan Ha bay and Ha Long bay. On the first night guide Jack explained us about the island’s history and nature and about the Vietnam. Very interesting! On the second day we had a lovely trekking guide who comes from a fisherman family. He told us so much about the island and helped us hiking the hill in the most kind and helpful way. When we came back on the boat there was guide Hang who entertained us by doing magic trics and playing the flute. This cruise was a wonderful, adventurous and educating experience.

We did the 3-days/2-nights boat tour with CatBa Ventures and were overall very happy with the experience. The itinerary was well designed, taking us to beautiful, less touristy places with stunning landscapes all around. It truly felt like an authentic and unique way to explore the region. However, the quality of the tour can vary depending on the guide you get. We had two different guides across the two nights, and the difference was noticeable. The first night was average. The second night, however, absolutely exceeded all expectations — thanks to our guide Hang. Hang was exceptional. From the very beginning, he made a warm and friendly impression. He was always smiling, relaxed, and incredibly attentive. He created a genuinely welcoming atmosphere and made everyone feel comfortable and cared for. On top of that, he went above and beyond what was included in the official program: he organized his own magic show in the evening, which was such a fun and unexpected highlight. Because of Hang, our overall experience went from “average” to a true 5 out of 5 stars. He is an outstanding guide, and we can’t recommend him highly enough. This was the best experience of our lives! The private boat exceeded our expectations! Our tour guide Kong was so knowledgeable, funny and kind, he explained everything so well and shared a quieter side of vietnam with us. The activity locations were all away from the crowds and such breathtaking views! The food was so so incredible, we ate like kings and queens and then lounged around having beer in the sun. We even had hotpot cooked in front of us and taught to make spring rolls by one of the chefs Ti! All the crew were so kind and made us all smile. Getting to and from the boat we booked the private travel with the same company and it was seamless experience which made the trip even better. I would reccomended this tour to anyone and everyone! 10/10 best experience of my life.

We did the private tour, on Junk 6. There is a chef, a captain and a porter on board - all very friendly and attentive. The guide, Viet, stayed with us the whole time and was very knowledgeable and tailored each day around what we wanted to do. Would recommend!

Highly recommend doing the 3D/2N cruise with Cat Ba Ventures!!! The extra time allowed us to really fully experience Cat Ba, the Lan Ha, and Ha Long Bays. The tour was very well organized and the guides were all very kind, passionate, and informative. The extended 3 day tour had a lot more variety in activities, including kayaking, swimming, cycling and trekking in Cat Ba national park, and visiting historical sites in the village, along with time just for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. We were joined with two different groups doing the 2D/1N cruise, which was nice because it let us meet more new people and have different vibes each night. On the second night, our guide Hang was amazing and provided us with so much interesting information about the area. He also performed an amazing magic show for the evening entertainment which was an unexpected highlight of the trip, so I would definitely hope you get him! For the cycling and trekking activity our guide was Viet and we ended up having a private tour which was a great experience. He made sure we were safe and respecting our limits during the challenging trek. Cat Ba Ventures also had excellent communication and allowed us to reschedule our cruise last minute and also helped us organize transportation to and from Hanoi. Overall, super happy with my experience with Cat Ba Ventures!

We had a great hike through the jungle. Up to the top of the mountain in The Cat Ba National park. The view was incredible. The caves were incredible. And I’m very thankful to Viet for explaining the history and the culture in Vietnam

I loved my three-day, two-night tour with Cat Ba Ventures. We visited beautiful places and lagoons, with great opportunities for swimming and kayaking. I enjoyed it so much that I added an extra day! I had four different guides. The first was Tuang (Tony), who was energetic and funny, he kept us entertained during dinner. On the second day, I went on a hike in Cat Ba National Park. Unfortunately, it had rained the day before, and the trail was very muddy and slippery. That made it hard to enjoy the hike, as I was mostly worried about falling and hurting myself, which I did. In my opinion, this hike shouldn't be offered during the rainy season. Viet Hai Village was very lovely, and the fish massage in the pond was a fun experience. My guide Ninh was patient and helpful, especially when I was struggling on the hike. My third day, my favorite so far—included swimming and kayaking in Ha Long Bay. What a breathtaking and unbelievable experience! Bing, my guide, was sweet, lovely, extremely patient, and accommodating. He even spotted langurs in the trees, which made the trip even more magical. On my fourth day (the one I added), the experience was just as beautiful, with more swimming and langur sightings. This time, my guide was Hang, who was clever, funny, and enthusiastic. He was especially good at entertaining the children on the boat with his magic tricks and engaging personality. Overall, I had a truly magical experience with Cat Ba Ventures discovering both Lan Ha Bay and Ha Long Bay. The staff at the office were also helpful and pleasant. I highly recommend Cat Ba Ventures for exploring this paradise!

We had an amazing time with Cat Ba ventures! The activities were well planned, the food was good, the boat was clean, the crew was really nice. Special mention to our guides : Hang who has so much knowledge about the bay (and has a lot of magic tricks), Kai who kindly gave us fans when we were hiking and distracting us from the heat with his stories, and Tony who gave us history lessons (very interesting ones!!) on the tide and the vietnamese culture. I think what they all had in common is their love for nature and their love for sharing!

We were incredibly lucky to join a two-day boat trip around Cat Bar with our amazing guide Nimh. As a family, together with a few other guests, we had such a wonderful time on board. The stunning scenery, the crystal-clear water, and the breathtaking surroundings completely amazed us. We went kayaking and swam to a nearby island, and created unforgettable memories along the way. The food on board was absolutely delicious—freshly prepared and full of flavor. Nimh and the entire crew took such great care of us, making sure we felt comfortable and well looked after throughout the trip. This was truly one of the best experiences of our entire holiday, and we can wholeheartedly recommend this trip to everyone!

My family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids ages 10, 13, 15) did a 3D2N cruise and we enjoyed it very much. The 2-bedroom boat was clean and adequate and each bedroom had a toilet, sink and shower that were all in good shape. The food on the boat was AMAZING, and our chef (Grung) kept us well fed. So delicious! Our boat captain (also named Grung) was very friendly and happy. They were a good crew. Our guide Kai was full of good information and advice, and took us kayaking to many neat places, including a place to see wildlife like birds and primates. Very neat. The kids enjoyed swimming and jumping off the top of the boat, as well as lounging on the top deck as we motored to new places. The area was very beautiful, although there is a lot of garbage around the shore lines. The boat was in good shape, and the bedrooms had A/C. We really enjoyed this 3-day tour, and would recommend it for sure.

Today we visited the beautiful Cat Ba national park and two caves there with our tour guide Viet :) it was an interesting tour which we enjoyed :)

We had an incredible 3 day, 2 night Ha Long Bay cruise with our guide Hien. Communication with Cat Ba Ventures when booking the trip and prior to pick up from our hotel in Hanoi was very quick and responsive. Hien took us kayaking to beautiful lagoons and caves, pointing out all the wildlife along the way. We were able to get away from the crowds for most of the trip and really got to enjoy our time in the picturesque landscapes. The crew were all very friendly and accommodating. The meals were all delicious with large portions. On the last day, we visit a fish farm, biked to Viet Hai village, and had a nice lunch at a local restaurant. This cruise was one of the highlights of our trip to Vietnam.

We booked online from Australia after watching many YouTube of HaLong Bay Cat Ba Ventures have a tour of Han La Bay for 3 days and 2 nights which was perfect. We had 3 guides Ben , Viet and Hien . All fantastic people with good English and knowledge of the place. Our group of 7 (including our family of 4 plus our kids' 3 friends) had an amazing 3-day/2-night trip to the Cat Ba area thanks to Cat Ba Ventures. Note: I rarely write reviews (this is my first TA review!), but CBV really made this portion of our trip a highlight during our 2-week Vietnam visit. We also very rarely arrange travel with a tour group, as we're pretty comfortable planning our own activities abroad and like the freedom in doing so, but we had wanted to explore the Cat Ba area, including an overnight on a Vietnamese "junk" boat and found that it'd be much easier through a tour group. Cat Ba Ventures was so very easy to work with for advance planning (we had last-minute changes in numbers of guests which they accommodated nimbly, as well as dietary restrictions for a few of us), and they took care of everything for us, including all transport needs, from the Haiphong airport pickup to the ferry and then the island taxi to Cat Ba Town. Upon arrival to the island, they booked us at the Moon Hotel, which was a nice stay. The construction in Cat Ba Town is startling (be sure to do advance research to prepare yourself for this!), but the Moon Hotel was a nice respite after a long travel day. The next day, we packed up just what we needed for the overnight boat trip and left our luggage with the hotel, which made it much easier. CBV shuttled us to the harbor where we boarded our boat (we rented a "family" boat with 3 en-suite bedrooms that fit the 7 of us just fine). Our tour guide, Ninh, was a major highlight of our trip. He was so knowledgeable about the history, culture and geography of this unique and scenic area, and helped us take advantage of all the activities that come with the overnight boat trip. We first anchored off an island beach so that we all could jump in and swim to the beach. Lunch was prepared for us upon our return. Then, we had a fun kayak adventure through a couple cave/tunnels into private lagoons, followed by some challenging rock climbs (for a few of our crew) and an amazing dinner aboard. In the evening came another kayak for a bioluminescence adventure along with squid fishing. The sleeping accommodations were plenty spacious and comfortable. More climbing the following morning, then breakfast, followed by a visit to a floating fish farm before being dropped off for a bike ride to the tiny village of Viet Hai, where we had lunch and time to explore. We were then picked back up by a smaller boat which quickly brought us back to the main harbor, where we were shuttled back to Cat Ba Town. CBV had also arranged our transport back to the airport. Ninh was with us the entire time, taking plenty of photos for us, and answering all of our many questions, teaching us so much about the area, the culture, the language, not to mention sharing witty jokes and wild stories. He was also very respective of our family time, too, giving us plenty of time as a group, during chill times on the boat and at all meal times, though we enjoyed his joining us for conversation after meals. We noticed that he had been filming footage of our activities here and there, but we were surprised to receive a professional-quality compiled video of our trip just hours after we left the island! It's a great capture of our Cat Ba trip and we're grateful for Ninh and Cat Ba Ventures for making this last portion of our Vietnam trip so memorable.

Lovely trip on a smallish boat , looks much more chill and personal than the bigger boats we saw. We did 2n/3 day trip with lots of swimming, kayaking, cycling and a bit of trekking. Great for the teen kids and also plenty time to relax on boat. Great food really excellent and very good guides. Bathrooms a little shabby and tired but ok.

We did the 3D2N cruise and had the best time. It was so relaxing sailing through the bays. The room was spacious and comfortable. Our tour guides Ninh, Hien and Tony were all fabulous. Ninh was hilarious and cracked great jokes. Hien ably lead us up Navy Peak - which was not for the faint of heart. Tony was so generous sharing his vast knowledge of the Lunar calendar and tides, and some history of Vietnam including his own family history. Would recommend doing this tour, everyone one says one night is not enough and we were sad to leave the boat after two nights. Pick ups and drops offs were also very smooth, direct from our hostel and they even arranged transport to Ha Long City for us to catch our bus to Ha Giang.

Highly recommended!! The tour was very well planned and exciting, good balance between active time and relaxing. All the tour guides were well spoken and fun, especially Tony! And there were barely any other tourists groups. Skip Ha long bay and come here!! Totally worth it!

This was my favorite tour and overall experience from the Vietnam trip. Absolutely beautiful sceneries, well planned itineraries and the most lovely tour guides. Really fun trip, my friends and I really enjoyed all the activities and we learned a lot of very interesting facts from our tour guide Tony. It was entertaining and active, we saw so much but also had just enough time to chill and relax.

Very well organised tour in the beautiful Lan Ha and Ha Long bays. Had 2 tour guides, Tony and Ben, who were both excellent with lots of information and friendly support. We went swimming and kayaking and went to Cat Ba national park for a gentle bike ride and a brutal walk up Navy Peak!

This was the highlight of our tour to Vietnam and Cambodia, we had a private boat for the four of us, and I would highly recommend that. Our guide was magnificent and full of knowledge and information as we went. Cat Ba team were very responsive when organising our trip, and also organised private transport from Hanoi. The great thing about this company is that we go to the less busy areas, so at times when kayaking, we were the only people in the lagoon, quite magical. The good thing with having a private boat is that you can tweak the itinerary to suit what the group wants to do. The crew on the boat made our trip special as well with many little touches which I won't mention as it will spoil the surprise. I would highly recommend this tour operator.

This cruise was the highlight of our honeymoon in Vietnam! We spent three days taking in the natural beauty of Lan Ha Bay and Halong Bay from different angles - from a kayak, swimming in the sea, biking in the countryside and hiking to the top of a peak. Every activity was perfectly organized and let us explore peaceful parts of this amazing landscape. We also had time to relax on the boat, and we had amazing meals, both seafood-based and vegetarian. Our guides were all super knowledgeable, helpful and a lot of fun to be around - thanks to Hien, Tom and Hang!! Because we stayed two nights, our group changed after the first day, and both times it was really nice to get to meet other nature-loving people from all over the world. If you enjoy being active in nature while also relaxing and having a good time, we can’t recommend this trip with Catba Ventures enough!

We did a 2 night private boat cruise at Lan Ha and Halong bays from Cat Ba island. Thoroughly recommended. I booked direct with the company from the UK and the process was very efficient, the company was really helpful, offering transfers to the island and to their offices and keeping in touch regularly re our arrival in the days beforehand and making sure we were back in time for our airport transfer in ample time. Boat was perfect for myself, my husband and our 20 year old son: 2 cabins with showers, nice deck above for eating meals and relaxing. The crew were great - captain, cook and guide. Meals were local dishes, plenty of fish but also meat and vegetables and very generous. This is a great way to see the area, we were able to go into narrow inlets that the bigger boats could not and moor in little harbours with just the lights of fishing boats nearby. Our guide knew the area well so we arrived at popular kayaking spots early before the arrival of bigger boats from the mainland and then retreated to quiet swimming spots to enjoy fabulous sunsets. A truly great experience and it felt like we were priviledged to see an authentic part of Vietnam through its fishing villages, as well as stunning scenery. Thoroughly recomment Cat Ba ventures.
