Itinerary
We meet at 7:30am to begin our once in a lifetime journey. We hop aboard our private transport en route to La Cumbre at 4700m. Once there, we get all our gear (helmets, gloves, knee/elbow pads, pants/jacket) and our top of the line bikes (Kona Full Suspension bikes with hydraulic disk brakes). Our bikes are maintained after every ride and we have over 100 bikes in our shop, ensuring you will get a bike that has been serviced and is adequate to your height. Also, the brakes are on the side you want them (different countries use different sides for the front/rear brake and you wouldn't want to grab the wrong brake because it's not set for your country). Our guides have an average of 10 years experience guiding on this incredible road. They give you detailed instructions before we start the ride to help keep you safe and comfortable on our descent. After our safety induction, we begin our ride. The first 24km of the ride are on the tarmac, this is a great chance for you to get a feel for your bike and the brakes and if you're up for it get some speed. The incredible andes show their splendor as we wind our way through this spectacular valley, taking small stops to catch the views and so the guides can explain upcoming sections. Eventually we arrive at Unduavi where every rider has to pay a road tax. Here we load up our bikes and do a big uphill on the bus. The bus arrives to the top of the old road, known as Death Road. Your guides will give you a safety briefing and check all the bikes. The barren snow capped mountains we have passed by are long gone and we are now in the incredible cloud forest. We literally start above the clouds, then ride through and out of them into the lush jungle. The last 40km of our ride are out of this world, as we curve our way down an incredible road carved out of the side of the andes, passing through waterfalls, rivers, small communities, down, down, down to the steaming jungle. The views of the valley are breathtaking and the rush of adrenaline and pure fun are incomparable. We have several stops along the way to take in the views and for our safety briefings. This is important so that you know about any corners or tricky sections of the road before you arrive and so that the guides can answer any questions, tell some jokes and give you some of the fascinating history of this road. We stop twice to refresh ourselves with a well earned snack and there is unlimited water provided during the ride. We end the ride at our jungle refuge where we enjoy a delicious buffet, a dip in the pool and relaxation. There are also hot showers and soap/shampoo/towels for you. After relaxing and celebrating our amazing ride, we hop in the bus for our 3.5 hour ride back to La Paz, where we will be dropped off near our hotels. Many people say this is the best experience of their south America trip, make sure you do it safely with a reputable company who focuses on giving you an amazing ride.

What a fun and thrilling experience! The quality of the bikes were amazing. There was a perfect amount of stops. We received clear and easy to follow instructions. And lastly, the guides - Remi and Mauricio were excellent! 10/10 experience!
We booked our Death Road bike tour with Barracuda and had an amazing day with our guides, Remy and Claudio! The bikes were in excellent condition, and Claudio regularly checked them during our breaks to make sure everything was working properly. Remy gave us great safety instructions and made sure everyone felt safe while having fun. The snacks and water along the way were great, and afterwards, it was lovely to enjoy a hot shower and a delicious lunch. It was an amazing experience, and we would definitely recommend Barracuda to anyone wanting to do the Death Road tour!
Incredible views, challenging, adrenaline-pumping ride, but questionable tour approach. The main guide stressed how invested he was in ensuring everyone had a great experience. He advised about specific places to take caution with, was thorough in explaining the expectations upfront: ride single file with enough space between us to anticipate rough spots, go at our own pace, etc...but then disregarded his own instructions as a group of front runners immediately crowded right behind him as he sped down, leaving everyone else behind to fend for themselves. The other guide was primarily tasked with capturing photos when he could have been taking up the back to ensure everyone proceeded safely. Recurring joke that if you fell you owed everyone a beer. I was keeping pace, but didn't feel like jockeying for position, so fell back...then was hurried along soon as I arrived at the next checkpoint, shamed for going too slow. "Ready to go?" he asked the group. "Just a moment" I replied, as I frantically tried to change out of a sweat-drenched layer...and he took off without me! We later waited for one guest to run back for his swimsuit, another to use the restroom...so not sure why my need for an extra few seconds was ignored. The whole thing felt unnecessarily rushed, except when we took an exceptionally long time for posed photos. Seemed like the guide felt pressured by the few who wanted maximum intensity, and the photos for proof, but a prevalent "you're on your own" attitude if you weren't at the very front. When I noticed my bike making a terrible sound, he checked it and determined it was fine...I wasn't assured, and indeed skidded out in one spot. If I fell off the cliff, no one would have noticed until miles later. Back on the bus, during the extended pitch for tips, he called me out obliquely in front of the group for requesting a vegan meal, like it was an inconvenience...though I requested it months before, and in the end it was just what everyone else ate minus the meat and dairy. I don't doubt that the guides and driver worked hard, and know the road very well. Just seems like this tour has a sort of assembly line approach, and if you don't conform to every aspect at every moment, they treat you like a problem. It's clear they're under pressure from the company, overly concerned with reviews, as the main guide passed around his phone so we could all provide our review before the tour even ended, and were additionally asked to leave another 5-star review. I can appreciate the hustle, just seems 14 people is too many to safely execute the operation. Other tour groups we encountered were much smaller. As someone who's led bike tours (albeit informal, on flat terrain, and for free), there's an obvious need for a third guide taking up the rear for a group of this size...but that would cut into profits. I enjoy rough travel, fully accept that we're in Bolivia and all that comes with it, but repeatedly stressing that other tours are less safe didn't exactly inspire confidence, when ours felt like a race to the finish. Nor did showing videos of riders wiping out on previous tours of theirs. They verbally condemn reckless riding, but actually encourage it, and then mock customers who experience accidents. I'd recommend biking Death Road, but with a smaller group and more flexible attitude, even if it costs a bit more.
It was an amazing adventure! Good guides that really wanted us to have a fantastic day! Also so good planned day with good photo stop, good eating breaks and good information about every section of the tour. We were five people and that was a very comfortable group size.
It was an amasing experience. Very fun but also scary. We got lucky and had very few in our group. The guide Ruben was excellent at explaining everything. We got snacks at the exact right time also
Great day of biking! The guides where fluent in English, made us feel safe and took time to explain both the road and the history at multiple stops along the way. Would definitely recommend!
Really good trip on death road with barracuda! Everything was really well done and explained and our guide Gus was top quality 🚴
Great experience our favorite so far in Bolivia! Remy and Cesar were both amazing and sid such a great job. Great safety, service and a good time! The bikes were great, no problems with them and amazing suspension for the rocky parts of the route. I would recommend Barracuda to anyone and ask for Remy if you want a safe experienced guide who also shows you a good time.
What a unique experience! The tour was just perfect and the most important thing was we always felt safe. Remi and Claudio made a great job. I have some MTB experience and so riding wasn’t very difficult for me but going down from the this high altitude surrounded by this beautiful mountains down to the jungle was just awesome. But also for MTB beginners I think it was fun and the guides were always there to help and give very good support. Thanks to Remi and his team.
Great guides, great experience. Bikes are full suspension and helmets full face. They are 1/2 price of Gravity and deliver a high quality experience
Excellent tour operator, I'd recommend to all considering a Death Road biking tour. The ride itself was a complete blast and one of the best things we did in the La Paz area. Our guides Christian and Cesar were excellent. I went on the trip as an experienced rider and my fiance as a beginner and we both had a blast. Most importantly the guides made us feel comfortable and safe at all parts of the trip. They took time to get to know all of our names, where we were from, and took a ton of awesome pictures and videos of our trip.
Great adventure with our fantadtic tourguides Remy and Mauricio!
Great equiptment and great staff. Had a fantastic experience.
This is the best biking experience I've got. We started from a hotel restaurant and ended at the downtown, during this period the guild Remy and Claudio kept the atmosphere easy and happy all the time. They know how to cheer people up, how to take the good pictures and most important they do care the safety of each participant by notifying each risky factor in advance so that we can enjoy the tour.
We had a fantastic day with Barracuda biking. Onze guides Cristian and Ruben guided us well and were super nice. We felt safe all day!
Very well organized and best guide ( Gus) we had so far in Bolivia!
One of the best organised tours we have done as a family. Extremely professional and safe but not at the expense of the fun and excitement - a perfectly balanced day. Totally loved it!
We had such a great experience on this tour! The entire day was incredibly fun, adventurous, and well organized. Our guide did an amazing job making sure everyone felt comfortable and safe throughout the ride while still keeping the experience exciting. One of the biggest bonuses was how many great photos he took throughout the day. He captured some amazing shots of us biking and at the different stops then sent all of the photos to us afterward through Google Drive. It was so nice being able to enjoy the experience without constantly worrying about taking our own pictures. The scenery was absolutely incredible, and this was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Bolivia. It’s a long day, but completely worth doing. My only feedback would be regarding the food stop at the pool on the drive back to La Paz. I think around 30 minutes there would have been plenty. We ended up staying for approximately an hour and a half because the food wasn’t ready when we arrived. I also got absolutely eaten alive by mosquitoes while we were waiting. Because of the longer stop, we didn’t get back to the city until close to 9 PM. After such a long and active day, it would have been really nice to arrive back in La Paz a little earlier. Aside from that, we had an amazing experience and would absolutely recommend the tour!
Everything was incredibly well organized, and Remy was the best guide we’ve had in South America so far. Safety was always a top priority, while there was still plenty of fun! Everyone could ride at their own pace and according to their ability, without ever feeling rushed or pressured. The bikes were excellent and regularly checked throughout the tour to make sure everything was working properly. Remy, César, and our driver Oscar made a brilliant team and all did an outstanding job. We felt very well looked after and had an unforgettable day. Highly recommended!
Absolutely amazing Death Road experience with Barracuda Biking! We can 100% recommend them. Safety was clearly the number one priority throughout the entire day. Remy was an excellent guide — very professional, super funny, and his English was fantastic. Before every section, he explained everything in detail: what to expect, where the dangerous parts were, what to watch out for, and how to ride each section safely. Because everything was explained so well, we always felt safe and could fully enjoy the ride and have a lot of fun. The whole team was great. The driver did an excellent job, and Cesar took care of the photos, videos, and bike management. The bikes were checked after every section, so you could really see how seriously they take safety and equipment maintenance. The route itself was incredible, with amazing views and a lot of fun riding. Everything was very well organized from start to finish. At the end of the tour, you arrive at a really nice place with a swimming pool, showers, and a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet — the perfect way to finish the day. Another big plus: the photos and videos they take during the tour are really high quality and make for great memories. They also genuinely care about their guests even after the tour. If you accidentally leave something behind in the bus or during the trip, they help you recover it and you can easily pick it up later at their office in La Paz. Overall, an awesome experience, a great team, excellent organization, and the perfect combination of safety and fun. Special thanks to Remy and Cesar — we had an unforgettable day!
We had a fantastic day with Barracuda (guides Christian & Ruben). The day was very professionally organized and truly good value for the money.
I was honestly quite scared before doing the Death Road but thanks to Remy’s clear instructions throughout the whole ride I felt safe the entire time. A special thank you to Cesar who checked the condition of our bikes during every break and was also taking great photos! It was an unforgettable experience:)
Our guide, Chelo, was an absolute delight! As a former professional racer for the Bolivia national team, he was an invaluable asset, providing us with insights and ensuring our safety throughout the ride. His attentiveness and humor kept us entertained, making the experience truly memorable. Chelo and his partner, Ruben, were incredibly knowledgeable about the terrain, guiding us through the twists and turns with precision. They provided clear instructions, allowing us to safely navigate to each subsequent stop. We had the chance to pause at scenic spots, enjoy snacks, and capture stunning photos and videos. Ruben even took action videos of the paleton, adding an extra layer of excitement to the ride. The entire experience was well-organized, and we felt safe and excited throughout. It was a day filled with fun and adventure that we will cherish forever. After the ride, we encountered a hiccup with a completely different tour operator in a different city. Out of desperation, we reached out Chelo for recommendations. He went above and beyond to assist us; worked late to pull his personal connections to help us resolve the issue. This level of customer focus is truly unparalleled. We highly recommend the Baracuda team!
The death road with Barracuda Biking was amazing. Cristian and Mauricio are very supportive and attentive guides. They inspired confidene during our whole journey. Thanks for your professionalism, guys.
I really enjoyed the Death Road experience! Remy and Cesar were both very professional, friendly, and made the whole experience feel safe and fun. The equipment was also very high quality, especially the bikes and brakes, which worked perfectly throughout the ride. Overall, an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend it!
Great communication and seamless organization. Great bikes and an amazing route. Goo meals, including a group breakfast in the morning, snacks throughout the day, and lunch after the ride . Very friendly and dedicated guides. They even achieved to fix a technical issue with the bus and ensure we got home on time. I highly recommend this tour operator!
We loved our Death Road Bike trip, Remy and Álvaro were great and really looked after us. We were well informed on the day and any harder parts of the course which made the day much more fun. It was well organised and good value for money.
I came back to Bolivia especially for riding the death road. And Barracuda and our guides Maruicio and Cristian made it 100% worth it. It was such a nice experience! The bikes were great and the route was beautiful. Everything was well organised: the snacks and lunch, the great photo's and videos, the t-shirt and the best end of the day: the swimmingpool! I truly loved it and I would 100% recommend Barracuda for the death road.
We had a fabulous day with Cristian & Claudio - we were slightly nervous before but the reviews say it all! We were made to feel safe at every stage. We started off with 20 miles downhill on the new tarmac road which gave us a chance to get used to our bikes. The Death Road itself is pretty bumpy and single lane at many points, but the suspension on the mountain bikes eased the journey. We made multiple stops and were offered lots of advice about the upcoming section at each stop and had numerous photos taken (all shared afterwards). We were provided with breakfast at the initial briefing, a sandwich midway and then buffet lunch and swim at the hotel at the end. Scenery and views were spectacular. It was a long day, with 7am meet and 9pm return to La Paz. All credit to the driver of our bus for his safe driving and for accompanying us down the road with all our gear. We were a family of 4 and all really enjoyed.
Amazing experience from beginning to end! Knowledge guides an definitely recommended!!
I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Barracuda Biking in Bolivia. From beginning to end, the entire trip was extremely well organized, professional, and genuinely fun. My guides, Marcelo and Claudio, were both fantastic. They spoke great English, were incredibly knowledgeable, and did an excellent job explaining what to expect throughout the ride. They were easygoing, fun to be around, and clearly very experienced. Most importantly, at no point did I ever feel rushed or unsafe. They allowed everyone to ride at a comfortable pace while still keeping the group moving, and they always seemed to know exactly when to stop, regroup, check equipment, or give us a heads-up about what was coming next. Jose, our driver, was also excellent and was a big part of making the entire day run smoothly. Between the guides and support vehicle, you always felt like the team had everything under control. Riding Death Road was one of the main reasons I traveled to Bolivia, so I had pretty high expectations going into it. Barracuda absolutely delivered. The scenery was incredible, the bikes and equipment were well maintained, and the transition from the cold, high-altitude start to the warm, tropical environment near the bottom made the experience even more memorable. What I appreciated most was that the day never felt like they were simply trying to get us through the route and move on to the next group. Marcelo and Claudio gave us time to enjoy the scenery, take photos, ask questions, and actually experience where we were. If you’re considering biking Death Road while in Bolivia, I would have absolutely no hesitation recommending Barracuda Biking. Marcelo, Claudio, and Jose made an already incredible experience even better. Easily one of the highlights of my trip to Bolivia and something I’ll remember for a very long time. Five stars without question.
We had an amazing experience with our guide Rémi in barracuda! A huge thank you to the whole team, who were absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Everything was very well organized, and we felt safe throughout the entire expedition while still having so much fun. The perfect balance between adventure, safety, and good vibes. Highly recommended!
The guides were great, keeping the atmosphere light so that people would not get nervous. They were very clear about what we needed to do and what they expected. The company's communications before the trip were clear and they were fast to respond to any questions. I can definitely recommend this tour company for the Death Road experience.
I had a really great experience at Death Road with Barracuda Biking. Marchelo and the other guides are really professional and made me feel very comfortable. The bikes are in perfect condition and it's really fun to ride with them. I can recommend this agency to 100%.
Remy, Claudio, and the driver were great! Remy kept us apprised of what was around every corner, keeping us very safe throughout the ride. He was very professional and constantly gave us very clear instructions. Remy is the best!
The tour was well organised and professionally run. The guides Remy and Claudio provided plenty of good instruction and fun discourse. The tour met my expectations.
The tour was very well organised and professionally run with guides Remy and Claudio providing plenty of instruction ad good natured chat. It was a great day out and met all expectations.
Biking down the Death Road was an absolutely thrilling experience! 🚵♂️ Remy and Cesar made sure that safety always came first. They were incredibly professional, kind, and funny, and took care of absolutely everything from start to finish. The bikes, gear, and apparel were all in top condition, which made the whole experience even better. You can really tell that the team cares about what they do and about their guests. Highly recommended! 😊 If you’re looking for an exciting, safe, and unforgettable Death Road biking experience, Barracuda is the way to go!
I had a great time on this one. There were incredible views along the way. It was my first time riding and the guide, Remy, taught us all the fundamentals to keep us safe the whole time. He also adjusted his guidance to us according to our skill level which was awesome.
Very well organized, fun and definitely worth doing. Our guide Remy did a great job and took safety seriously. Bikes where downhill Kona’s in perfect working condition. Awesome pictures, plenty of snacks, and lunch was also good. Our tour started from “El Centro” at 7:00am and we got back around 7:30pm.
We had the best day with our guides Christian and Claudio. They made sure that we felt super safe all the time. The equipment was verry good and the day was sooooo much fun! No notes :) You won’t regret going with Barracuda.
Super experience with Remy and Cesar, they made sure we were perfectly safe and knew how to navigate the road. They also made it ridiculously fun and took some of the best photos I’ve seen for the Death Road 10/10
Remy and Cesar were excellent, i felt safe at all times without the trip being in any way boring. Remy is full of excellent knowledge too. The price is very reasonable for the quality of service and bikes. Could be slightly longer as a trip as a whole, but the sections were very enjoyable. Very good group size.
The Mountain bike Trip down Death Road with Barracuda Biking was so amazing! Eventhough I’m Not an experienced biker, i learned how to Navigate the bike safely very quickly, because the instructions were very clear. The tour guides were really experienced and informed and I felt like I was in safe hands. Remy Conde was our tour guide, who gave us instructions and guided us down the road safely. He was also very funny and a very kind person. He really made our trip even more memorable and fun. The level of care Remy and also his college Cesare had for our group is something not many companies can give you. The way they always checked on everybody and everybody’s bikes was the reason our trip went without accidents. Barracuda Biking gives you one of the best bikes and Equipment for Death Road, so you don’t have to worry. Paying a Little Bit more Money on this trip will Secure you great Equipment and will Decide if you make it down the road Alive and well! If you‘re thinking about riding Death Road, definetly choose Barracuda Biking!
An absolute recommendation for the Death Road tour with Barracuda Bike in La Paz! From the gear to the final kilometer, everything was top-notch, which is largely thanks to their fantastic team. Alex gave us complete peace of mind the entire ride as an exceptionally safe and confident driver. Caesar was a reliable sweep rider who always kept watch at the back, meticulously checked every single bike at every stop, and even captured amazing photos and videos of us along the way. Remy brought endless laughs with his great sense of humor, professionally patched up minor scrapes on the spot, and ensured that everyone could fully focus on the downhill adventure without a single worry. Anyone wanting to tackle the infamous Death Road with a competent, fun, and safety-first team should definitely book with Barracuda Bike. 5 out of 5 stars!
Remy and Alvaro are the best. Simply the best guides we could have: fun, careful, attentive, no words to describe those guys.
We really enjoyed the ride. Remy and Alvador were great guides and made us feel really safe. The only thing the company could improve is the quality of the videos and pictures that they take during the tour. Im really sad that the fottage is in such a low quality.
Amazing experience with the team of Remi and Cesar. One of the best of my life. The bikes were ok! Good food at the end and the pool was fantastic after the tough ride!
★★★★★ We had an absolutely incredible day on the Death Road tour, and a huge part of that was thanks to our amazing guides, Remy and Claudio. From start to finish, they prioritised our safety while still making sure we had an unforgettable and genuinely fun experience. Their communication was exceptional throughout the day, and we always felt safe, informed and well looked after. They were knowledgeable, professional and clearly passionate about what they do, while also creating a really relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The food provided was great, and there was plenty to keep us going throughout the day. One small tip: if you’re someone who needs a bigger breakfast, you may want to have something extra beforehand, as the sandwich provided might not be quite enough. Another great touch was being dropped off very close to our accommodation at the end of the day, which was especially appreciated after a full day of riding! Highly recommend!!
