Death Road, Bolivia: Mountain Bike Tour On The World's Most Dangerous Road

We had an amazing day with gravity bikes on the death road😈. Everything was perfect : top-quality bikes, amazing guides, great food. Our guide Noel was super nice, super skilled and gave us great explanations on what to expect on the road. We recommend 100 percent!

Amazing bucket list activity. Day was made even better by the guides who made every effort to accommodate every request and tailor the ride to all abilities and riding speed - Noel and Mauricio....Special mention to Mauricio's photography. The whole day was really well organised and felt very safe, noticeably more than some of the other operators on death road that day. The finish point at the animal sanctuary was a great bonus too. Whilst they're not the cheapest operator, the service provided by the guides and their extra safety precaution are 100% worth the price!

Great guides, quality equipment, good breakfast to start the day. They balance the excitement and safety just right. I would say reasonable experience on a MTB will give you a better day, the road is rough & loose, so knowing how to let a full suss bike do it's magic gives you confidence.

Really amazing experience, and we were incredibly well looked after. I liked the high spec bikes, the guide at the front, the guide at the back to check everyone was ok, and the bus following so that we could leave kit on there as needed. Many thanks to Noel and team.

This is a great day out. All very well organised and a nice emphasis on safety. You meet up at the comfortable Cafe del Mundo for a decent breakfast amd meet your guides. Then into the bus and grind up the streets of La Paz to reach the pass marking the edge of the altiplano. Kit up....jacket amd leggings provided along with helmet and gloves. Then down the road, with stops to check everyone doing well. There is a short uphill section...so they lift you past it in the bus! You're dropped off at the junction where the old, bumpy, unsurfaced 'Death Road' leaves the new tarmac. And down you go....wild scenery, the big drop off to one side. Lots of room for bikes....and the support van follows behind, along with spare bikes. Pouring with rain when we went, but it didn't matter. Photo stops....one of the crew taking shots and you get a link to all of them at the end. Finally, wrists sore from gripping the handlebars, you cycle into the lovely Senda Verde reserve, a haven for rescued animals. Showers...bring clean clothes and shoes! Do the optional felines amd bears tour ($10). Great lunch. And back into the bus for the long drive (3h) back to town...where they will drop you near your hotel. A long day and best if you have some experience riding a bike, but you don't need to be an expert. You choose your own pace, and everyone regroups frequently. If you're going to be in La Paz, book this adventure.

Excellent experience but I will say terrifying! Albeit my nerves, the actual day and organisation was fantastic - could not fault. Damian went through every bit of detail, made sure there were snacks and breaks throughout the ride, and even photo/ video shoots as we passed certain corners and backdrops. The team, attention to detail and size of group was spot on - well worth it for what we paid, and definitely a day I will be gushing about and taking to my grave (mind the pun). Plus bonus to get a shower and ice cold beer at the end of it.

Kenneth and his colleagues were all very professional. They all took excellent care of us. Kenneth's english was perfect and he also explained all the insctructions very clearly, which was very important for our security. The pictures and videos they all made for us, were fascinating. We really recommend their services ! It was an unforgetable trip !

I had a great time riding death road with the mountainbike with Gravity Bolivia. Miguel, Noel and Mauricio were experienced and gave great explanations & are of course experts in mountainbiking and fixing the bike.

Can’t say enough good things about Gravity Bolivia. We did the death road bike ride and it exceeded our expectations in every aspect. The guides were so cool and friendly but also super professional and made sure we were safe at all times. They brought plenty of snacks and water and the ticket also included breakfast lunch and dinner. All were great! But honestly the best part of the experience were the guides. Noel was top notch and I wish I could remember the names of the other two because they were awesome and took amazing photos for us. It was nice not having to worry about taking photos while biking- they had it taken care of. I also give major props to the bus driver who followed us the entire way. The bike mechanic fixed someone’s flat tire in a matter of minutes. They even drop you back off at your hotel which was unexpected and greatly appreciated. Oh and we got to stop at an animal reservation at the end which just the cherry on top of an unforgettable day. Thanks Gravity! We’ll be back!!

Amazing experience. Descending 12000 vertical feet in the Andes on a bike was incredible. Very well operated with great guides and made as safe as possible. Not for the feint hearted, but one in our group hadn't rode a bike in 30 years and still made it. Wish we knew at the end where they take you to lunch is where that new species of cat found just a few weeks ago was being rehabilitated so we would have seen it but the biking is 100% worth it if you love breathtaking scenery and aren't afraid of heights and can handle a bike reasonably well. Best experience in Bolivia.

The trip was perfectly organised from start to finish. The guides were great and really helpful with the equipment and tips for each part of the track, so that even inexperienced participants could get the best out of it. For me for example it was the first time on a mountain bike but I felt safe at all times, and everyone could go on their own pace anyway. Would definitely recommend this tour, as the whole day was so much fun, and the goodies handed out during the day were great to take home as a reminder of an amazing experience.

I had a great time. It was challenging, but doable for me at 68 years old. The trip was well planned and we were kept informed of everything in a timely manner. The protective gear and bikes were in great shape… no worries there. The food was good and the showers at the end are a godsend. Everyone really enjoyed the animal sanctuary at the end of the ride too. It’s a long day, but well worth it!

I’ve always wanted to ride this one, and I read online that Gravity Bolivia is well-regarded for its organisation, equipment and safety. My entire Peru/Bolivia itinerary was planned by the Peruvian agency Dos Manos but for this ride, I specified that I wanted it done with Gravity Bolivia, and I’m glad it lived up to its reputation. The ride was well-structured with breaks in between so you don’t mentally tire out riding on such a cliffhanger road. Lead Guide Noel and his assistant displayed great leadership, and speedy hands-on help fixing the likes of tyre blow-outs were all in the day’s work. The support vehicle driver was tops too - a safe driver who navigated heavy fog well & his driving was patient (a bit of a rare breed there). If you’re looking to ride this one, you want to do it with an operator who’s tops in this. All the riders in my group had a great time and nice memories to bring home. Thanks Gravity Bolivia !

Damien and Claudia were the best guides we’ve experienced a tour with. I initially wasn’t going to do death road but gave in after reading reviews and my partner wanting to go. We’ve been in LA for 1 month now and this is the funnest, best organised activity we’ve done since being here. They made us feel really safe while also just enjoying the day. Worth every $$$$. They also take all your photos and vids for you which means less risk of an accident 👌🏽

My experience with Gravity Bolivia was second to none. The bikes were high end full suspension Kona, well serviced & maintained, the suspension set up on my bike was perfect for me, possibly a fluke, possibly because height and weight were taken pre-ride. Our guides Damian and Claudio did an amazing job balancing a the delivery of a safe experience against ensuring both beginners and experienced riders were all able to enjoy the descent. I punctured twice, Claudio was rapid in replacing a new inner tube & I was back on the trail within a matter of minutes. The beer, dinner and shower at the end of the ride were a nice way to round off the day, separate male and female facilities with 6 showers each, all in a clean condition. Before the day was over the Gravity team shared a link to all the photo' s and videos they had taken throughout the day. Yes there are cheaper options out there, but the free breakfast at Cafe del Mundo, the buff and t-shirt, the comfortable transportation and overall experience made it value for money. Gravity Bolivia also offer a range of other rides with varying experiences.

Damian and Claudio were amazing from start to finish… Although Gravity were on the expensive side compared to other tours, the bikes, safety, knowledge and guidance was worth every penny! Don’t skimp out, go with the best and you won’t regret it!

This tour is a no-brainer when in Bolivia and was a highlight of my trip - a fantastic experience with stunning scenery. Damian & Team did everything they could to ensure we had a great time during the tour. Unfortunately, we had a very last-minute cancellation due to a medical emergency, but they provided us with a full refund despite the short notice, which was greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend booking the Death Road tour with Gravity!

Loved the day, the bikes (despite a few scratches!) performed flawlessly, the gear was clean and comfortable and the food provided was just right. Loved that Kenneth and Cesar were willing to ride flat out for those of us that wanted to hit the mountain hard, while they also ensured those less comfortable were looked after. Highlight of the day was the animal rescue sanctuary at the end…. Take the tour (100 Bolivianos extra). Thanks team.

Went on a trip led by Damian down the death road- I was super excited but also a bit nervous, being an inexperienced mountain biker and never having done something on this scale this before. But Damian was absolutely brilliant and we started off slowly while we got used to the bike and terrain. We travelled short sections before stopping and preparing for the next leg which made it a lot easier to get through the tricky bits. I was a bit worried about fitness but being 99% downhill meant this wasn't an issue! Overall this was one of the most exhilarating things I've ever done- the scenery, the adrenaline and the sense of accomplishment gave me such a buzz and I'm so glad I did it. Gracias Damian!

My family (wife and two children, 8 and 11 years old) and I are traveling by motorhome. We had an incredible experience, biking down the Death Road. The agency provided two exclusive guides, one for each of them, ensuring safety and peace of mind on this great adventure. The success of the descent for all four of us, the quality of the equipment, and the professionalism of the guides gave us the feeling that the high investment was worthwhile.

Amazing experience starting high above the treeline and descending through cloud forest to the jungle. Was excellent to visit the wildlife refuge at the end of the tour. One of the best tours I’ve ever been on. I felt safe and well looked after the entire time. The guides (Noel and Ruben) were excellent at supporting both more experienced and less experienced bikers and we got lots of great pictures too, so we didn’t need to worry at all about taking our own. Expert driving in the minivan and loved that they support a small animal rehabilitation centre also.

I don't often review company and experience but this one worth it. Gravity Bolivia is on top, all was perfectly organized and the bikes in perfect conditions. Our guides lead by Damian were always around us to be sure everything is fine, we made several stops on the way for incredible pictures and unbelievable stories shared by the team. I did this with my son aged 13 years old and a guide stayed permanently with him. He just loved that day. I definitely highly receommend this company for an unforgettable experience if you stay around La Paz.

This is the best tour you can do in La Paz, and gravity is the best team to do it with. Noel and the crew were incredibly professional and safe, and speak great English. The gear they provide is also top notch. Not to mention you end at an animal sanctuary! Such an amazing day, will definitely book with gravity next time I come to La Paz.

I had a brilliant day with Gravity from start to finish. The included breakfast meeting point was good quality & a good way to start the tour to make sure we had energy. The bikes & equipment (most importantly) were great quality and I felt safe and well looked after at all times. They provide trousers, jacket, full head helmet, gloves & knee/elbow pads if you want them. They ensure they brought extra on the bus in case you had requested the wrong size. Before we began they fitted out the bikes for each of us to make sure they were comfortable and gave us all test rides to get familiar. We stopped at regular points along the route to check in and the team checked over our bikes at each point too. I always felt safe in their hands despite being on death road! At the regular stops they provided snacks, water & lunch all of which felt perfectly timed. There were toilet stops on route to which I wasn’t expecting! About 45 mins to the end you stop at a great viewpoint where you can choose to zipline for less than 100B or just cool with the view. Our final stop was the animal sanctuary where we were able to have hot showers and a delicious dinner before heading back on the bus. All in all I had a great day and I was happy I went with Gravity. Although more expensive than others, I was glad I chose them and don’t regret having paid that little bit extra. Original is best! Thanks team!
