Bike Down The Road Of Death

What a great and memorable day riding the Death Road. We were picked up on time (appx 730am) at our hotel in downtown La Paz and after being provided with good quality kit (full helmet, gloves, jacket, trousers and pads) and selecting a bike (we chose to be upgraded to full suspension which I recommend) we ascended to our start point in the mountains at some 4800 metres. We were also provided with a simple breakfast. We were briefed fully by our fabulous English speaking guide Thomas (half Belgian and half Bolivian) and given safety instructions. We then started our descent, firstly on the main tarmac road (appx 20kms) before reaching the start of the actual death road. Thomas was very patient and he stopped regularly to explain the route and explain the next stage of the descent. He was also the camera and video guy and regularly took individual and group pictures and videos to capture the tour. The death road itself is not technical and is easily navigable by mountain bike although having a good quality guide was important. We were followed by our mini bus who kept our bags safe and provided back up support if needed as well as helping with snacks and lunch stops etc. It took a few hours to make the full descent to the bottom of the trail road to appx 1200 meters and dropping off the bikes with Thomas and the driver ! We were then taken to a small hotel which had warm showers, a swimming pool and provided buffet lunch before being transported back to our hotel in La Paz for around 7pm. I highly recommended tour for those seeking a great day adventure from La Paz!…..

We had a great time, and the best guide Thomas. He was super friendly, explained everything and took many photos and videos. Also the driver Franco was very nice too. We got good bikes and all the gear we needed, Always enough to eat and drink, and at the end the chance to hop into a pool or take a shower. Plus points because we were just two persons, and they still did the tour.

We had such a great time today! The guides are really friendly and made sure i was okay after I slipped with my bike, the pickup and dropoff service is great and the bikes had double suspension with made our trip really pleasent. Would definitly recommend, you are in good hands with these people!

Faultless experience from start to finish. Julio was a brilliant tour guide who really respected everyone’s different abilities and comfort levels, and our driver Cesar was equally lovely and incredibly friendly. The tour group was small, just five of us, which made a huge difference. It felt far more personal and well looked after compared with some of the other companies we saw with ten or fifteen people to one guide. The quality of the bikes was outstanding, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I couldn’t recommend Evolution enough for the Death Road Tour. I was genuinely impressed, and both the tour and the team were fantastic.

Great tour, great organization. Everything is done to ensure safety; the equipment and bikes are impeccable, as is the organization. Thomas is a great guide, French-speaking in case you don't speak Spanish, and he adapts to the group's abilities. Little bonus: the pool to relax in after the descent.

An exceptional day spent with Thomas, our French-speaking guide, who is passionate about his country and punctuated the trip with anecdotes during stops at strategic locations. This day was perfectly organized: punctuality, professionalism, clear safety instructions with all the necessary equipment provided, snacks, lunch... with a minibus following us to provide support. Thomas took care of the photos and videos for our greatest pleasure, thus leaving us focused on our bikes. This will remain a highlight of our trip!

José and Thomas (our guides) and Finko (our driver) were really great. The whole course was safe thanks to their instructions on the road and the techniques to have. Everyone can go at their own pace (fast or slow). We loved knowing the whole story of this road and its anecdotes! The equipment is also of super quality, the bikes recent and with good suspensions and brakes, which is not necessarily obvious when passing through other companies (return of other travelers). We recommend without hesitation!

The trip to the Dead Road was absolutely excellent, even if I had a fall (all my fault, I say!). My guide, Thomas, was exceptional from A to Z. After my fall, he reacted perfectly: he took care of me immediately and took me to a clinic for me to be treated. Really a caring and reassuring professional. I recommend this experience with my eyes closed, especially Thomas, who is an outstanding guide. Thanks again to him!

We made the road to death with Thomas and Fico. Super qualitative and pleasant material, they have everything planned! (Really better material than other crusader groups on the road) Thomas promotes safety and makes everyone super comfortable! It makes you want to do it again, but enough emotions for this time! One of the most beautiful experiences of our lives, where you can see was a dream landscape, Ficu the very quiet driver and our Guide Julio gave us a very pleasant route and at our pace, attentive to take some pictures of this spectacular experience, and the hotel was also very jungle a good place to rest!
