Adventurous hike on rough terrain but worth every step. Gerard, the guide was incredibly wonderful. Lots of great info and very concerned about safety. Must be fit to enjoy.

Itinerary
After we meet by the helicopter pad, we will have transport taking us to Grand Anse where we will start the actual walk towards Anse Marron beach.
Approximately in the middle of our walk we will reach Anse Marron beach which consists of a more open, bigger stretch of sand and a smaller beach with the access to a lagoon protected with the rocks. There you will be served light lunch and will have about 1-1.5 hours (depending on the tide schedule) of relaxing time.
We will reach Anse Source d'Argent beach at the end of our tour. It is one of the most famous beaches in Seychelles and one of the most photographed beaches in the world with lots of beautiful rock formations. You can spend the remaining of your available time here or walk towards the ending point with Gerard near helicopter pad where we started the tour.
Upon finishing the tour, you will be able to walk through L'Union Estate Park (admission is not included in the tour price) where you can see the giant tortoises, vanilla plantation, old plantation house which is a museum now. This is the place where we finish the tour. You can spend there as much of the remaining time as you want, or leave the park together with me towards the very end point near the helicopter pad where we started the tour.

Incredible hike! And Anse Marron — WOW! I went to La Digue from Mahe for the sole purpose of doing this hike and am so glad I did. Gerard's been guiding this hike for 8 years and it shows. Most of the hike is difficult — there are a lot of rocks to climb, jump, and squeeze/shimmy through — but he's there to literally lend a hand and help you get through the tough spots. Bring water shoes AND tennis shoes because my group and I found our water shoes to be less grippy on the rocks, and you need good grip! (Unless you're like Gerard who can do the entire hike barefoot!) Bring a small waterproof backpack for your stuff (water, sunscreen, snorkeling mask, etc.). And when Gerard tells you to secure your stuff in your pockets or bag, secure your stuff! Don't be like me and let your sunglasses fall out of your pocket as you contort your body to fit through a tiny hole. There is so much to see along the hike; I'd taken a ton of photos before we even got to Anse Marron because the beaches along the way are beautiful. We had 90 minutes at Anse Marron to swim, relax, and enjoy Gerard's creative fruit lunch, and then it was back on the trail to finish the hike. I highly recommend doing this hike with Gerard — he knows the trail inside and out and is a fantastic guide and human.
This is a long and difficult hike through the nature, sliding through rocks and sometimes through the water. Make sure to pack a lot of water, sun protection, bug spray and water shoes. Although challenging, it is so worth it! The views are never ending. You get to go to private, stunning beaches and hear all about the island’s history and wildlife. Our tour guide was excellent. It was the high light of our trip here in the Seychelles
It was the highlight in La Digue. Gerard is a very experienced and smart guide. Knows a lot about the nature and gives impressing insights. The brings a full load of humor and empathy together. Always would do the tour again with him. He was very helpful and supportive espacially when we did the not so easy part through the waves at high tide. For us as a family of 5 it was the highlight of the year. We enjoyed every minute with Gerard and his special lunch ceremony with a decorative basket out of leaves.
The tour guide had to cancel the original tour date, which was unfortunate for everyone involved. It would have been helpful if another guide had stepped in to ensure the clients could still enjoy the experience. This way, they wouldn't miss out on the tour entirely. I believe exploring these options could enhance the overall experience for future clients.
It has been such a perfect and kind of adventurous day. Gerard told us a lot about the island and its nature and did a great job guiding us all the way. Everyone able to do so should definitely do this hike!
I am frankly dissappointed. No one came. I waited for 30 min at the meeting spot. Such a shame, i was genuinely excited….
Great experience - the hike is slightly challenging - so please carry suitable water proof bags and wear water shoes. The guide Gerald is great.
Probably one of the coolest hikes I have been on. It is not easy but it is very rewarding and their is definitely an element of risk. Our guide was so cool and knowledgeable. The scenery was fantastic and we got to visit places we would have never seen on our own. If I ever go back to La Digue I would 100% do this all over again as it was such a good hike.
Gerard is a fantastic & interactive guide with a vast knowledge of the flora & fauna of the island. It is not just a hike through beautiful scenery but also a fun discovery of La Digue and it's essence. The best 👌🏽
If you are fit enough, this tour is a must to do! The trail is more beautiful than the other famous beaches in my opinion. Gerard was a fantastic guide. We went through the dungle at these tiny trails, went through the top of the costal rocks, saw the most amazing sights without any other people, Gerard told about the animals and plants and had a part of the trail the ocean. Definitely recommended!
The most amazing experience! The guide has been extremely nice and knowledgeable. We are planning to go back and repeat it again for our wedding anniversary!
My husband and I got so much more then we expected! After reading all the reviews it still didn't describe how wonderful our experience would be. The hike is well paced, it is not hard and the terrain often changes, so it keeps beeing interesting. The beach Anse Marron was gorgeous! Even snorkeling was fruitful and full of exotic fish. Gerrard is a master of knowledge and passionate about nature, but also very friendly and kind. The lunch on the beach was delicious, just what we needed. If there were 10 stars, I would give them gladly!
Friendly and nice guide guy. Good experience. Logical price. Only for adventure people. Hard trail..
THIS IS NOT A TRAIL FOR EVERYONE. - there are tight spaces to squeeze through, and you must be able to bend over, climb over rocks, duck for low clearances and have good stamina - parts of this trail are dangerous/technical and would not recommend for kids <8 or adults who have joint problems/pain or are not in good physical condition For us it was a good experience—girard was knowledgeable and the food for lunch was good. But I was super surprised at how dangerous this was.
One of the best tour I ever had. The journey was amazing and worth all the challenges. If you’re fit and able to go to this hiking tour it’s so worth it. Anse Marron is worth the visit. It’s a paradise one must see. My local tour guide Gerard is awesome! Thankful for this amazing experience :)
This was one heck of a spectacular adventure. This 5+ hours hike took us on so many terrains...deep into the tropical forest, on open fields, on sand, thigh deep in water (I'm short), in between and high on the giant granite boulders. The views were amazing the whole way through....and the forest was beautiful as well. I'm a hiker and this is one of my all-time favorite hikes, and a very challenging one for me. We are ages 64 and 68.. Navigating through the boulders was not a walk in the park and Gerard got us through safely. At the end of the hike, with the sun beating down on us half the time, I was very tired but was so thrilled that I finished. We had an hour to play or relax on the beach while Gerard prepared a light lunch of various fruits (papaya, pineapple, banana, apples, oranges) and a bit of fish samosa. Everything was delicious, and much needed as we were quite tired by then and needed some good energy food Gerard is a cool, health conscious, man of nature. He knows and cares a lot about all living things in the forest and on the beach. Gerard is a wealth of knowledge and if you are fortunate to get him as your guide, you will have a great time going through all that La Digue has to offer with him.
Our guide didn’t think we would be able to complete the tour. He recommended we not proceed. We saw a father and son the next day and he said he made the right choice. We appreciate his decision and expertise! Thank you!!!
It was a really great experience, Gerard is soooo friendly and funny and caring... He tells you a lot of stories about the nature and the culture of the island. And he will take you by the hand and lead through all the difficult parts of the trail. We felt very safe and welcomed all the time. I strongly recommend against trying to do this trail by yourself. Most likely you'll be fine but if something really happens it can go sooo much wrong. The odds do not worth it. And what is most important - you'll miss all the information about this place, you aon't be able to meet all those creatures, to watch the birds feeding their babies in the middle of the jungle. The trip with Gerard worths every penny you pay for it, trust me
even though your hike is adventurous walking in nature, sea water, on the rocks, and so on, every moment worth it! especially the guide, gerard's tremendous knowledge and story telling are unforgettable!
Great Experience! We enjoyed the trip. Gerard was a great guide with a fantastic knowledge about the island and especially the nature. Prepared a great fruit basket for lunch. He was kind and a very good guide! Highly recommend the tour as the beach anse marron is one of the most stunning beaches we have ever seen! But keep in mind you need to be physically in good shape as it is a little tough!
Great experience, fantastic nature, indeed it is phyiscally challenging - mostly due to the temperature and humidity. „Never walk alone“ - do not hike this trail without an experienced guide. Gerrad - fantastic explanation of nature and history.
Excellent tour in La Digue with a very nice tour guide (Gerard). Amazing scenery. Bring plenty of water, good running/hiking shoes and water shoes.
Gerard is super friendly, attentive and strives to ensure the safety of the whole group. He explains a lot about the background of the island, the food and naming culture and has answers to every question. The lunch basket was handmade with love. You can feel that he’s a proud local who is eager to show you the best what La Digue has to offer! I strongly recommend going on this tour with him! Thank you Gerard!!
Gerard is such a beautiful human ! So knowledgeable, humble, fun, helpful and charismatic - it was an honor and a pleasure to have spent this time and do this tour with him. Definitely it is a memory which will last a lifetime ! Highly recommended ! Please pay attention to the details in the description - water shoes are a must and not optional, as parts of the tour are going to be thru the water shoreline, you’ll be deep in the water till your waist walking on underwater rocks and corals. I recommend long leggings as you’ll have to pass thru narrow boulders / rocks paths or slide on it which might cause grazings of skin. Sunscreen, mosquito repellent - if you know that they love your blood type, and a cap are highly recommended, same as a good pair of trainers or trekking shoes. The light lunch is actually pretty fulfilling - lots of fruits, banana bread and samosas beautifully served in a handmade green palm basket. Thank you Gerald for one of the best times i had in my entire life 🙏🏻🙏🏻.
The Anse Marron tour was amazing! Gerard knows very much about the flora and fauna on la Digue and will show you different plants and animals. The fruit basket for lunch with some pasteries was delicous. Would highly recomend!
Brilliant. Tour.. Guided by a. Conscientious and. Patient young man called Staina... Truly great guide... Scenery was amazing and the journey was an adventure... Stopped. For. Lunch at a amazing location Anse Marron. Beach which was paradise... Little. Tropical.fish swam. Around you as you. Swam. In the water... Brilliant day... Thank you. For the memories.
This tour deffently is not for older peaple, specially if not in good condition. The guide was fantastic and thanks to him we finished this tour. The nature is very nice, walking but climbing over the stones and going under the rocks was little hard for us, we are over 60s. In any case very kind guides, the light lunch served was good and Nature pool on Anse Maron is beautiful.. I am very glad to be on this tour and sugest to every young people to go. Only it must be notice that big and fat people can not go becouse of very nerrow part in rocks.
One of the best beaches in the world, probably our #2 in Seychelles, only Anse Cocos gave us a more positive impression. Absolutely stunning, and the trail is even more amazing than the beach itself! But please consider hiring a guide if you are not a professional hiker - some paths are not obvious and the rocks might get really slippery after just a short drizzle. My wife was quite scared of some parts of the road – thankfully, Ted from Sunny Trail assisted her when needed.
This was the perfect tour! Not a simple walk in the park, but instead small challenges and great awards to what the nature can offer! Absolutely fantastic with beautiful hidden beaches. Highly recommended with the best guide! Greetings from Norway! 👍😊
The tour with Gerard was one of the highlights of our trip. Gerard is extremely knowledgeable and shared so much interesting information about the Seychelles and its nature. His daughter also joined the tour and it was a delight to be a tiny part in a day of the life of an island child, which is so different from our own. In summary, the tour is visual and also culinary highlight, as Gerard let us taste various plants along the way. He also provided a delicious snack at Anse Marron. While the tour is challenging, we always felt safe with Gerard as our guide. We cannot recommend the trip enough. It’s also a very fair price and we want to recommend to tip Gerard for his great work. P.S.: bring strong sunscreen. The sun surrounding the equator is merciless.
This full-day excursion was the highlight of our multi-island visit to Seychelles. It met our expectations and more. Our guide, Gerard, was amazing. He led us through an exhilarating and physically challenging adventure through beaches and the forest. We also did a good amount of boulder climbing. Along the way, Gerard described the local flora and fauna, which was spectacular. Once we arrived in Anse Marron, we relaxed for more than an hour on the beautiful beach. Gerard also treated us to a delicious lunch of fresh fruits and baked fish turnovers. This is a must-do excursion when visiting La Digue if you can handle the physical activity and bring the recommended supplies/gear (i.e., bottled water, water shoes, sunglasses, etc.).
Amazing tour with Gerard. His knowledge & his connection with the nature is amazing. Absolutely reccommended guide.
The tour and the guide were simply amazing. Access to beautiful remote beaches while learning about the natural wonders of La Digue island. I forget the guide's name, but he made the experience even more special. Very friendly and knowledgeable.
We had a really great day doing this hike and Gerard was a great guide - very helpful, funny und with a lot of wisdom about flora and fauna. The weather was tricky when we did the hike, but we always felt save, even with our 5 year old son. The hike is not easy, but definitely worth doing it. Thanks Gerard for making it happen!
Gerard did an awesome job! He explained so much about nature and its inhabitants, we learned so much. Besides that, stunning views and great beaches! We are highly recommending him! Thanks again for this great day!
The most beautiful beaches in the world!!! Thank you Gerrard for guidance and support! Unforgettable experience!!!
I loved the guide! He makes many stops to enjoy a nice view, explains a lot about the nature in the Seychelles and teaches you all sort of things. The trail is some kind of a challenge for sure, but you do not need to be super fit to make it. My girlfriend does not love sport at all and she mastered it, though she was very exhausted afterwards haha. If you are overweight or have problems with your joints/back, then I would advise to reconsider to maybe reconsider doing this tour. The included light lunch is good too by the way.
Gerard was our guide for the hike to Anse Marron and D'Argent. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the wildlife and nature of La Digue. We had a delicious lunch and long rest at Anse Marron with no one else nearby. 10/10 experience! Definately a hike worth doing but it's not a leisurely walk--we climbed granite boulders, squeezed through small spaces between them and waded in waist deep water. If you are someone who can walk 4-5 miles including uphill, several times a week and are reasonably flexible with good balance, you can do this hike. If you are significantly overweight or >70, you may want an easier hike.
We really enjoyed the tour with Gerrard he was informative , fun and Interesting so passionate about the islands and its nature history. It was challenging hike but we are both fit but so rewarding and worth it for the stunning views of the coral sea & granite coastline & forests. We hiked through 🌴 mangrove forests - highlights meeting the creatures centipede, hermit crabs, lizards spider and learning lots about Seychelles flora fauna and birds. We Scrambled through caves squatting squeezing in tight caves helps to be of slight build if you are big bones don’t go lol 😂 we hiked over massive granite boulders and waded in chest high warm sea with bags on our heads …. along the coastline -the views were amazing like something out of Jurassic park and we had a great laugh too 😂 Gerard’s steady hand was a bonus helping me especially over rocks and his calm guidance was reassuring Great Tour leader
Gerard was the guide, I really don't recommend doing the tour with him. I booked through viator the day before, I arrived at the meeting point and he told me I had no reservation, I showed him the voucher and in a bad way he joined me. The tour is still high impact and not so easy so in some parts it was complicated to move forward and he was very annoyed with me. I think that when you take a tour where there are several people some have greater skills than others and I think that the less benefited like me instead of getting angry with you you could support them, clearly the guide I hated him for the way he was with me.
Beautiful tour and this is only thanks to Gerrard, our guide. So fun and friendly guy that will explain everything during the trekking! Great lunch with fresh fruits at the beach. I would suggest to underline in the description the difficult of the tour, this is definitely not for everyone. There are some technical parts that are quite difficult and you need a good training and elasticity of your body. There was for example a very narrow passage between the rocks to pass that you couldn't in case you are too big!!
Amazing tour with Gerard, he shared with us a lot of knowledge about the island, etc. even charming the fly catchers to allow us to take pictures For the most difficult parts (you need to be in good shape), Gerard was very helpful, sometimes not letting participants think of whether they were anxious 😅😅 Light lunch was great, especially compared to the other groups Keep in mind to book at least 24 hours in advance (not like us) or the tour might start without you
WOW! The best hiking experience ever! Gerard was able to transmit all his love for the nature and his island. You won`t be only doing a hiking with amazing viewpoints and beaches. You will learn a bit about the islands history, names, plants , birds and have a few laughs as an extra. Highly recommend it
Wonderful experience with breathtaking views and educational remarks from the guide along the path - he really enjoys it himself and spreads positive attitude even on a rainy day!
Great tour really enjoyed it Gerard was very good and knowledgeable and trustworthy. I trusted him when moving over the rocks over big gaps (I'm afraid of heights but did it). You do need to wear proper shoes and water shoes if you can't walk barefoot on dead coral.
The hike itself was spectacular, but also challenging, with a number of passages that involve scrambling / balancing on granite boulders. It's worth it if you can manage it as you get to Anse Marron, a small but beautiful beach that is otherwise impossible to reach. One of the main plusses is the guide, Gérard, who is a real character with a lot of information and stories to tell. He is also very aware of where help is required traversing some of the trickier sections.
BEST Guide… Some areas are difficult Gerard knows exactly how to assist you in navigating the rocks, we were completely comfortable in his hands, he is a true experienced professional… if you are fit do not hesitate to go; if you are out of shape and a lot overweight, I do not suggest it. MOST beautiful beaches in Seychelles… TRULY CAPTIVATING!!!
We had a great trip with Gerard, he provided a relaxed and authentic experience. We loved walking through nature and learning about native plants and animals. Then arriving at a stunning beach with little natural pools to cool off in. He prepared a yummy fruit platter for us and served it on a woven basket made from leaves! The attention to detail was so special. Thanks again!!
So the tourguide we originally booked with had to cancel - BUT: they immediately called someone else who could take us on instead. The tour to the Anse Marron and back up to Anse Source d'Argent was full of breathtakingly beautiful views, and completely worth the time and effort. We found the most beautiful little natural swimming pool - and the best thing: we had it all to ourselves <3 Alix, our guide, was really nice and knowledgeable, and explained a lot about the forest, the plants and animals that we saw. 100% recommend taking this tour, was one of our absolute highlights during our honeymoon! Worth knowing: we had to climb about the rocks in the forest and the beach, so the hike was really strenuous at times
