The Original Small-group Sushi Making Class In Kyoto

This class was very enjoyable! Would be a great experience for first-time sushi makers and/or first time visitors to Kyoto. I’m sure repeat visitors would enjoy this as well. The ladies running the experience were very welcoming and friendly. My husband and I attended this class along with another couple we had never met, but quickly became friendly with. We learned how to make sushi rice, how to form nigiri and a sushi roll, and what to say in Japanese before a meal. Questions were encouraged and answered well. Thankfully the ladies spoke very good English, making the whole experience easier and more comfortable for my husband and me. There were both alcohol and non-alcohol beverages available once it came time to eat. At the end we even got a gift bag!

Very knowledgeable and kind chef and sous chef. In addition to teaching us to make delicious sushi and nori, they also told us many things about local food scene and regional specialties. It was a wonderful family activity- highly recommend!

Ayumi was an amazing teacher and made sushi making easier than we thought we would be! The workshop is very clean and very nice. Quality is great! We had a wonderful time!!

Kana, the owner, is a wonderful, patient teacher! Always gracious and happy as she shares her sushi skills and stories! There were only 6 others in our class, so it was very personalized. My son-in-law, Cedric, and I had a great time learning how to make nigiri and mako (roll) sushi. Can't wait to try at home! Thank you Kana-san!

This class was definitely a trip highlight for my husband and me! We had an incredible time with Kana and Ayumi. Kana explained every step of the sushi making process so well, made it fun, and also provided so much insight to Japanese culture along the way. She answered all of our questions not only about sushi making but Japanese culture in general, as well as provided some recs around the area for pottery shopping. She was a delight to spend our lunch with! The sushi was absolutely delicious and provided a lot of food- we both left happy and full. Located in a very cute area and easy to find. We felt very well taken care of and appreciated Kana and Ayumi’s hospitality. Thank you!

Such a lovely, educational experience! We learned a lot about both sushi making and Japanese culture. Our instructors also made the sushi making process very approachable for beginners. We made both nigiri and maki - both were delicious. I would recommend this activity for anyone who is looking for a fun, immersive experience in Kyoto!

This sushi making class was an absolute highlight of our trip. Under the expert guidance of Ayumi and Kana - who were amazing- friendly , patient and informative. All set in a beautiful space . Definitely come hungry - the class provides plenty to eat and we even took some sushi away with us.

This is a can’t miss experience! The atelier is lovely and Aya and Ayumi are gracious teachers. The sushi is fun to make and very fresh. Making sushi is not difficult but you learn a lot of important techniques. Enjoying the sushi at the end of class with sake was the best!

It was an amazing experience and they were able to accommodate for my celiac disease. Very good English and clear instructions. Kind and helpful instructors who help you to succeed every step of the way. Would 100% recommend!

Absolutely outstanding experience! We learned a lot beyond the two types of sushi we made. The ladies were as nice as could be and the instructions were clear and easy to follow - we needed a lot of coaching! LOL You better come hungry though!

Ayumi and Nobu were AMAZING teachers. They were very kind, detailed and spoke great English. We enjoyed visiting with them after eating and learning more about Japanese culture. 10/10 experience.

INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE! Our instructors were incredibly kind and educational. We loved getting to know them and more about Japanese culture! I believe it was ~100 USD or so for the 1.5 hour event. We were given a goodie bag with sushi mats and chopsticks!

We loved this sushi making workshop that we did while on honeymoon in Kyoto. We happened to be the only two in the class & the experience was amazing. We learned how to make sushi & about Japanese culture. They were so generous with the portions, we couldn’t finish it, but the sushi was delicious. They also gave us a lovely gift set of souvenir set to prepare sushi at home. We also got some great recommendations from Kevin who was assisting the class on different things to do around Kyoto & went to purchase some great local japanese knives afterwards. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience!

Definitely a highlight of our trip to Kyoto! My husband and I did this sushi-making class, our first one, and we had such a wonderful experience. Ayumi and Nobu, were so friendly and welcoming. They made us feel comfortable right away, and it was so lovely chatting with them throughout the class. It was our first time making sushi, and the atmosphere was great. The ingredients were also really high quality, and we got to make and eat so much sushi! They even gave us a little gift at the end with sushi-making tools, including bamboo, and a recipe to take home. Can’t recommend this experience enough! Amazing sushi making course with both a lovely ambiance and very kind and knowledgeable people!

Absolutely perfect sushi-making workshop experience. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed—everything was perfect. It’s a private experience that I highly recommend. It will remain one of the best memories of our trip. A big thank you to the owner, who does everything to perfection.

Definitely the highlight of our Japan trip! It was a fantastic experience and we were so warmly welcomed! We received some fabulous recommendations of things we would not have done, unless recommend by a local. This class is a must when visiting Kyoto! Wonderful experience! I did a lot of research on different Sushi making classes in this one seem to stand out. I definitely made the right choice. The couple who ran this were friendly, knowledgeable, just overall wonderful! Not only did we make sushi we learned Japanese history and got tips for the rest of our trip!

Fun experience with the family, our teacher Ayumi was very nice and helpful. Each person made 6 ngiri and a maki roll and got to eat it afterwards.

We were very warmly welcomed by our hosts! Kana was an excellent teacher whose expertise was evident. Our kids (17,12and 12) loved it and so did we! We made many types of sashimi and maki as well. We were able to gain confidence in our skills and look forward to trying Kana’s recipe and method at home. Not to mention a delicious sushi lunch after the class. We were even given a gift by our hosts before we left. We loved every minute and highly recommend this experience! The sushi atelier is a lovely space. A beautiful way to experience Japanese culture when in Kyoto! ❤️

The experience of learning how to make Sushi with Kana as an expert was both educational and tasty at the same time. While preparing our own meal we also learned something about the culture of Japan. Really recommendable to follow this workshop!
