The tour was a great way to cover a lot of ground. Our guide, Ejji, was polite, well informed and a lot of fun.

Fun e-bike tour around the city stopping at highlight spots. Spent 3 hours seeing the city and cultural spots
This was the highlight of our Kyoto trip. Sebastian was so kind and helpful with so much information to share. He also accommodated our big group and was very patient with our delays. We cycled through the streets of Kyoto with stops for pictures and information then ended with a beautiful long stretch by the river. Thank you!
We loved biking through Kyoto’s back streets and exploring different neighborhoods. The guide was great, very friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.
Naoki took us around the east side of Kyoto and did a great job of explaining the different temples, the background of bridges and the river. I had mistakenly booked the excursion for a day we had another tour, but he was extremely accommodating. He moved our tour to a time the next day and where he was available and when we could come. He easily could have told us we would be unable to be scheduled, but he really worked with me to find a time. My two boys (10 & 14 years old) loved it as did we.
Excellent bike tour of Kyoto. Our guide Noaki was knowledgeable, friendly, spoke EXCELLENT English and tailored our tour to our requests. The cycling was easy, Noaki accommodated our requests for e-bikes, but they were not necessary. His knowledge of Japan is vast, he is delightful and really fun to spend the afternoon with. You will enjoy this tour and love this guide!!
Our guide was very down to earth and accommodated my request to see philosophers path. he is great at navigating everywhere around Kyoto. we saw some really special areas off the beaten path. This tour may be best for adults for safety reasons due to traffic but my kids did fine
This was a phenomenal tour, covering three types of areas: historic areas, then wealthy residential areas, and finally slice of life areas. Our tour guide, Sebastian, was excellent. His English was perfect and had deep insight into not only history, culture, and geography but also what makes living in Kyoto unique from both the perspective of locals and that of foreigners. Importantly, this was an e-bike tour, so even though we covered large swathes of the city, there was no real physical exertion. If, like us, you take this tour in winter, dress warmly.
Eiji was an excellent guide and provided a great tour of Kyoto. He very knowledgeable and helpful. We did this tour on the first day of our stay in Kyoto which was a great way to see the city & get our bearings. Thank you for looking after my family Eiji.
Sebastian was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and found some quiet out of the way places away from the crowds.
We had a wonderful time biking through the streets of Kyoto. Eiji was our tour guide and he was fantastic! Lots of great information but made the experience even better with his humor. Kids enjoyed this so much! This is a must do activity.
Thank you Eiji for an amazing tour today. We had so much fun! You were very good at looking after an inexperienced and nervous cyclist We saw lots of Kyoto and learnt some useful and interesting background from you. You were so kind to take all the photographs as well. We will look back on them as a reminder of a wonderful morning spent with you in your beautiful and historic city.
Eiji was a great tour guide. He was kind, knew a lot and showed us a lot of interesting places. Seeing Kyoto on a bike is the best way.
Our group of three had a wonderful experience with Eiji. Eiji made the entire excursion very fun and comfortable. We saw some beautiful views and got to learn more about the culture and history of Kyoto. We were pleased with the number of local/non-touristy areas we were able to visit. Eiji also incorporated the most delicious snack during the tour; we love supporting local vendors and this treat was one of our favorites! Eiji also made sure to bike at a pace that was enjoyable - with plenty of rests in beautiful spots. As an added bonus - Eiji took 60+ photos (without us having to ask) of us on the tour which are fun memories to look back on. Would recommend!!
Great overview of the vast amount of great places to see and visit in Kyoto. The electric bike made it really easy in the warm weather.
We had a really nice tour with Eiji and enjoyed the 2,5 hours beyond the touristy paths - he was very kind and took a lot of photos from us which he provided afterwards. Nevertheless the price level for this tour is beyond expensive and insane (for 2 people € 240!!). Retrospectively I would not recommend it for this price.
We booked this tour with Sebastian and had the BEST time!!! He showed us so much of Kyoto, while sharing interesting historic and cultural facts. It was so great just to follow someone who knew where they were going and how to ride bikes around the city!
Great bike tour! Knowledgeable guide, pleasant to have conversation with. Was on time, kept tour even longer than promised. Really well done!!!
Eiji was an amazing tour guide! He got me set up on my bike quickly and we were off! I was able to see the city from a totally different perspective from the bike and we went to bigger spots (e.g., the park near the Imperial Palace) and then through streets and spots for locals I'd never have found myself. Eiji took pics the whole time so I had a great record of the experience, too. What a fantastic way to see Kyoto!
We were very happy to get Eiji as our tour guide. He found some great spots for us and we had a cozy time. We had nice conversations and Eiji is very easy to communicate with. We would definitely recommend Eiji as an amazing Kyoto bike tour guide.
Eiji was a wonderful host. We got a chance to ride through the city and see other beautiful sections we would have otherwise missed. We all felt this was a highlight of trip in Kyoto!
We had yesterday a cycling tour with Eiji. He is a thoughtful, nice guide . We cycled 2 and a half hours, it was pretty cold , but the tour was excellent. We cycled as a family and everyone was perfectly satisfied. Thanks to Eiji
Eiji was a fantastic tour guide. We were able to cover a lot of territory biking instead of walking, allowing us to see a lot in just 3 hrs. Eiji tailored the tour to our family based upon what we had already seen and even took us to a shop to buy matcha cups as it was our last day in Kyoto and we specifically wanted a matcha cup as a souvenir. The best part of the tour was talking to Eiji and hearing his perspective on the history of Japan and Japanese culture as well as seeing picturesque neighborhoods that we would have otherwise missed.
We absolutely loved the Kyoto bike tour with Eiji. He was so knowledgeable and took us to areas we would never have discovered. Definitely a highlight of our visit to Kyoto & highly recommend. Thanks Eiji!
This was one of our best experiences in Japan! Eiji was a fantastic guide who took us on a beautiful ride through Kyoto with stops and opportunities to immerse ourselves in nature, culture and traditions along the way. We really felt a connection with the city, more than just sightseeing. We highly recommend Eiji and this tour!
We spent the most amazing day in Kyoto with Ray and Kyoto Bike Tours. We were able to see the highlights of Kyoto while also experiencing all the side streets, gardens and river parks. Ray was kind, helpful, knowledgable and fun! I really think that this is the only way to truly experience Kyoto! Do yourself a favor and book your trip with Kyoto Bike Tours now!
We met Eiji-san at the Imperial Palace to start our bike trip. He was polite and he planned our itinerary very well. Because of a unannounced closure of the palace, Eiji was able to plan another route to take us to see the beautiful red leafs. He is very kind to give us space when biking to enjoy the scenery and experience by ourselves and he is also there to explain everything about the sites and customs of Kyoto culture. We had a very enjoyable time with Eiji.
This tour covers so much ground and takes you to an abundance of sights. The tour guide is such a lovely guy and loves sharing stories and hearing about yours. He also takes so many photos for free. Top quality bike tour.
Host was amazing with our family of 5. Shouted us to a mochi during the tour. Very knowledgeable and ensured the safety of our 7yo, 11yo and 13yo. Difficult riding conditions but our kids are experienced riders. Great way to explore. Highly recommended!
What a wonderful glimpse into the local side of Kyoto that we would not otherwise have experienced. Our guide, Eiji, was kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and witty. He added a bonus highlight of seeing floats being prepared for an upcoming festival parade. Our entire family enjoyed every minute of this experience!
Amazing. Highly recommend. Friendly guy, great sights and good conversation. Definitely a must, and a great way to see the city.
Eiji San was lovely and informative. We had a great Bike tour in a beautiful location. Lots of photos of our little group were taken by Eiji and sent to us post tour. Highly recommend.
Eiji was an amazing tour guide and got to show around Kyoto. He even bought my friend and I some mochi and we got to eat it right by a river
Was surprised to find I'd booked a tour for just two of us, explains the price! Great to get along the river more than we would have walked. We arrived late but our guide was waiting for us, means we may have missed one site but still pleased with the route.
We enjoyed Eiji's bike tour so much last year, that we went with him again this year with our son and daughter-in-law. A really nice way to see Kyoto!
I cannot speak to the tour itself, as our tour was cancelled - without notice - after the confirmed and scheduled start time and after we had been waiting at the designated starting point for 15 minutes. Moreover, the operator made no effort to remedy the circumstances. When I asked about rescheduling or discounts for other experiences, the operator curtly responded that there was no availability to reschedule and that “no promotions are available at this time.” We planned our afternoon around this tour and some level of respect for our time would have gone a long way. Would not recommend any tour or experience offered by this operator.
Eiji is the perfect guide for a bike tour because he’s a passionate resident of Kyoto, a safe and skilled cyclist and an enthusiastic communicator of all Kyoto has to offer. We had a spectacular day with him gliding through cherry blossom tunnels, strolling through beautiful gardens and even enjoying a delicious treat along the way. If you enjoy biking, Kyoto is a great city to take in a leisurely ride with Eiji!
Our family had an amazing sunny day Kyoto bike tour with Eiji. He was an attentive guide and an amazing photographer who really documented the whole tour for us which was wonderful. From photos with the first blooming cherry blossoms and a visit to a local market to a introduction to a local shrine and eating fresh mochi on the river bank, it was a morning to remember. Thank you Eiji!!
It’s always fun to see a new city by bike and Kyoto is a perfect place for sight seeing by bike as it is pretty flat. Our guide Eiji was very friendly, knowledgeable, and showed us many of the beautiful spots of Kyoto. He also shared recommendations for after our tour.
My friend and I were able to see the city as a local would. Our guide Eiji was so informative about the culture of the city. We had a great time and recommended this to anyone who wants to get an in depth view of Kyoto.
This was the unexpected highlight of our trip to Kyoto! Ollie was an awesome guide, showing us spots we wouldn't have known to stop at and taking us along a really beautiful bike route. We started with a really peaceful ride along the river, headed to a couple shrines we didn't know existed, made it up to Ginkakuji (which was beautiful!), and headed back along the Philosopher's path. Highly recommend!
We booked the bike tour to see Kyoto from a different perspective and it was totally worth it! Jonathan is a great guide, he informed us beforehand and made sure we came prepared. During the tour he told us a lot about Kyoto and some historical backgrounds as well. Besides, he gave us some practical tips and recommendations to spend our time in Kyoto. He didn't hurry and took all the time we needed to stop at certain places to give more information or to take some photos. Would definitely recommend him to guide you through Kyoto if you have the chance!
XJ was so well informed and crafted the most fabulous tour. Kyoto is an easy place to bike around, but having an e-bike gave it that extra edge of easy & freedom. We learnt so many quirky new facts about Kyoto & it really enjoyed the 'water' theme of the tour... We really appreciated all the knowledge & fun had along the way. A must do in Kyoto!
Robin was an excellent guide. She has a thorough knowledge of Kyoto & it's history & was excellent at answering all our questions. She showed us many interesting areas & informed us about Japanese custom & lifestyle. The 3,5 hours by bike was just a perfect introduction to Kyoto. I would highly recommend Robin as your guide if you are visiting Kyoto.
My wife and I booked Jonathan for an easy overview tour of Kyoto on 30 October. We met Jonathan at the bike rental shop and were guided around town mainly on backstreets for just over 3 hours seeing some of the key sites. Jonathan was informative, easy going, patient and careful with regard to traffic. We really enjoyed his company and the outing. Highly recommended.
We loved this trip from start to end. travelled as a group of 6 with XJ taking the lead and providing insights and taking pictures. The e Biked were great taking the effort out so we could concentrate on the stories and background of fascinating Kyoto. We particularly enjoyed the Philosophers Walk but all aspects were highlyenjoyable to all in our family of 5 from us young at heart 60 year olds to the boys of 31, 28 and 25. Would recommend this trip any day if the week and will do MLB it again in a heart beat.
We had an amazing tour with Ollie! He knows nice places and the stories behind them...very interesting and pleasant for as well adults as children (we did the bike tour with our 4 boys (between 11 and 16 years old)). If you want to visit Kyoto: be sure to book a visit with Ollie - you won't regret it!
Ollie was absolutely fantastic and was all we could have asked for in a guide and more! He showed a genuine love and respect for Japanese culture and had clearly spent a great deal of time exploring and getting to know Kyoto. All of the places that he showed us were thoughtfully chosen and were beautiful gems we likely would never have found on our own. He was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions no matter how silly! We would highly recommend Ollie as a guide to anyone looking for a great way to see Kyoto - you will enjoy it immensely!
We had a lovely morning with Ollie, exploring the quiet yet still beautiful parts of Kyoto. Cycling along riverbanks and quiet alleys, it was a great way to get oriented with the city, and get recommendations from Ollie on where to go later in the afternoon and evening to enjoy the city more. As well as passing many of the major sites, the stop at a shrine where we revealed our fortune by placing our O-mijuki paper in the little stream was a real highlight.
The tour was exciting. Going through the back alleys of Kyoto streets gave us a much better and exciting experience of the city, away from the tourist crowds and typical touristy spots. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing for this tour though! The guide got us 3-speed bikes, which were sufficient, but there're electric versions at extra cost.
