What an experience this was! Atsuki was very charismatic and provided history of onsens beforehand. He provided a guide on what order to do in the bath. I had an amazing time and really appreciated Atsuki's expertise and professionalism!
My first time at an Onsen and I was a bit nervous. Atsuki our guide was helpful, informative and very friendly. He explained the process and everything was relaxing and great. Atsuki even bought us coffee in a cafe beforehand and drove us to a shopping plaza after! I would DEFINITELY book this again. Also the cold bath was my favorite and I’m not fond of cold water! Thank you!
Beautiful experience getting a local history and perspective of bathing culture. Loved the before tour at a historical bath house. Our guide did a wonderful job explaining the ins and outs ahead of time before we had our bath experience, and making sure we were well prepared. Perfect amount of time, and the bath house we enjoyed ourselves. My friend did have a tattoo, no issues there.
Our guide was so informative explaining the culture of bathhouses in Japan. He was friendly and interesting. Big thums up!
I learned a lot and my bath experience was great, the guide gave me really good advice, answered all of my questions, and was very kind. I recommend at 100% ! 😊
Very nice experience. Atsuki was an excellent guide. Highly recommended.
It was a memorable experience and a great way to connect to a local. I enjoyed the experience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very informative on an aspect of Japanese history and culture. This particular Onsen has an interesting history of how it came to be and how the founders competed with traditional geothermal Onsen. Important to know the it requires nude bathing but is segregated by gender, so may not be for everyone and couples will be separated.
The Family and I wanted an onsen experience but really had no clue where to begin so we booked this guided tour with Atsuki. We were about 30 minutes early and walked the neighborhood, filled mostly with residential dwellings. We met our guide, Atsuki, about 15 minutes before our start time. We were walked to a local cafe that it turns out was a converted onsen (technically a sento, but I’m not qualified to list the nuances!) and given a brief, but very informative history on bathing culture and bathing etiquette. We were also given (humorous) warnings about locals policing said etiquette. We were each given a bathing kit with two towels, shampoo and bath gel to use. Atsuki walked us in to Funaoka Onsen and we separated, males around the blue curtain and females around the red one. The overall experience was relaxed and light and Atsuki was a great communicator even given his limited English. Top notch and I would recommend this experience to anyone who is even remotely interested in giving it a try.
Learning about the history of onsens in Japan as well as the best practices for visitors was super helpful for my first visit especially since I was travelling alone. My guide gave me an overview of the history and let me know how well known Funaoka Onsen is. Such a great guide of the bath house experience in Kyoto.
A relaxing evening at the onsen. Our guide was Atsuki. In a small former onsen that is now a café, we were taught the rules of etiquette. Atsuki also provided us with lots of additional information about onsen. Afterwards, we went to the bathhouse together. We didn't have to prepare anything ourselves. Atsuki took care of everything, providing towels, money for the hair dryer, etc. It was a very informative and relaxing experience. Everyone should visit an onsen at least once. Arigatou gozaimasu
This was a very relaxing experience of the Japanese bathing culture after all the shrine visits etc, thank you Atsuki!
What an amazing experience! I really appreciated receiving an explanation of the rituals and practices before entering. The bathing process was delightful. Atsuki was a wonderful and very helpful guide. Thank you!
Incredible onsen experience lead by a great guide! Atsuki gave me the background info of onsen, the steps, and was there throughout to guide the process along. It was even more relaxing — helping me get over any anxieties about doing it wrong and instead just enjoying the delight of Japanese bath. 5 stars, highly recommend!
The Onsen experience was one of a kind! Coming from the US where a public bathhouse isn’t common, our tour guide Atsuki, made it a very friendly and informative tour. Started with a beverage, information, and history of the onsen. He answered all of our questions with a very friendly demeanor and kindness, and showed us what to do with illustrations. He then gave us a bag for the soap and shampoo, towels, and walked us to the onsen. For my male friend, he was happy to have Atsuki with the him to show him what to do in the onsen, he felt it was great to be shown everything to do. All in all a wonderful time!
Good explanation from enthusiastic guide about the onsen tradition in Japan. After the explanation paid a visit and took a bath in a relaxed way. Recommended!
Atsuki Nakagawa prepared us really very sweet for the bathhouse and had great background information. Thank you very much we had a very nice evening.
At a fashionable cafe in a former sento, they received a detailed lecture on the history of hot springs in Japan and the effects of hot springs. Funaoka Onsen is a very retro, wide and lovely hot spring and I was excited. The open-air cypress bath was the best. Atsuki-san, our guide, showed us around the baths with great care, so we could have a sento experience with peace of mind.
He explained in detail the effects of Japanese sento and bathing culture. The building was also lovely and I felt history. Atsuki was also very knowledgeable and answered various questions. Funaoka Onsen also has a variety of hot water, and the open-air bath was particularly pleasant. Thank you very much.
The sento culture in Kyoto was interesting, and I learned manners, proper bathing methods, and how to take a bath to relieve fatigue. When you wash your body before entering the tub, you should also be careful not to hit other people with water halfway up, or put a Kyoto-style towel on your head. According to the staff, soaking in the bath tub is better for your health and refreshment than taking a shower. I'm glad to know that the sento culture is so deep.
