This was a fantastic class and one of our favorite experiences while in Japan. Nao was a superb teacher and we really enjoyed learning about both Japanese cooking and travel throughout the class. The meal was delicious and we can't wait to try it out at home with all of Nao's tips. Highly recommend don't miss it!
I really enjoyed Nao’s cooking class! Ramen was delicious as well as the side dishes. Nao adjusted the recipes so that we can easily find the ingredients to cook it at home, and that is definitely what I am going to do. :)
It has been almost a year since our cooking class and I still think it was my favorite part about travelling to Japan. Aya was so sweet and made the experience so fun! We loved every minute.
I had such a good time learning how to cook ramen with Aya. She was so friendly and made the learning process very easy.
Me and my honey had such a good time in this class! Ended up being just the two of us and our lovely instructor Aya. She keeps the class short and sweet which is nice since you can whip up a batch of ramen at home in no time! This class was much more homey than some of the other ones we have taken. We had great conversation and lots of laughs, she even took the time to write down some of the Japanese curries that were asking about. She also took us outside to take a beautiful photo in front of a tall temple. We definitely recommend taking this class if you are in town and want something fun and light hearted to do. Thanks so much for showing us how to to kneed ramen Japanese style!! Also she showed us a technique with cutting cucumber that we can surely impress our friends with!!! Simple and fun!!!
We spent a lovely afternoon making Ramen, chicken and cucumber salad with Aya. We happened to be the only two who were booked for this class so it was awesome having such a personal experience. I love that Aya gave us so much background on the traditional ways ramen is made. It definitely deepened my respect for this cuisine in which I already love. Aya was also so generous to share tips on other restaurants and sights to see in Kyoto which was very helpful. I would definitely book another course if I came back to Kyoto!
It was raining on the day I went to learn the secrets to fresh ramen noodles, and spending the grey afternoon holed up in a cozy kitchen making warm, delicious things was the perfect accompaniment to the weather. In addition to being fun, full of friendly people (some of the best people take cooking classes), and led by a very dynamic ramen expert, I learned to make ramen! I am very excited to cook for my friends.
They were flexible and let us start a bit late to accommodate for our train schedule. We made delicious pork ramen, lemon fried chicken, and cucumber salad. The portions were plenty for my partner and me, both with considerable appetites. Ten out of ten would recommend to a friend.
The cooking experience was really great fun and very informative, it was carried out in a relaxed manner and there was no pressure. Aya certainly knows her stuff, and I have now been inspired to cook Japanese food, making my own noodles and trying other adventurous recipes. I would thoroughly recommend this experience!
It was an ok night and an ok way to spend a little over 2 hrs.... With not good food. I do not recommend going. When I signed up to make ramen from scratch I was thinking we would make things in a bit more of a traditional fashion. Like, from scratch. I had dreams of making dashi broth with kombu and bonito flakes. I hoped to truly learn how to make delicious ramen at home. Short cuts and what felt like Kraft Easy Monday Night recipes followed. Yes, I realize that most home cooks in Japan don't make their own dashi. I was just expecting something where I would learn how to cook a high quality traditional dish and what I got was easy tips and tricks with short cuts. It made the food not good. The food was as follows: Cucumber salad was mild and tasty. It had some buillion in it and was a simple recipe to marinate cucumbers. Karaage was terrible/disgusting to be honest. The coating was super soggy and gelatinous. Maybe look into a new recipe? Chashu was surprisingly ok for being a glorified bacon wrap. But if we are comparing this with actual restaurant chashu then no, it was bland and tasted like soggy wrapped bacon. Onsen Tamago was fine. Ramen noodles were pretty dang good. They were fun to make! They were truly made from scratch. Broth: Boring, Bland. It truly lacked flavor, richness and any of the good qualities that a nice, made from scratch broth has. It was sweetened brown water.
I opted not for the Ramen Factory hoping that the Ramen Workshop in Gion would be better. The reviews were great and the reviews were spot on. Aya made our trip in Kyoto. The cooking class was interactive and informative. The meal was delicious!! Aya's positive energy and was able to share lots of her knowledge around the Japanese culture and spoke great English. Highly recommend!
We had such a great time here and loved every minute of the Ramen class. Our host was lovely and really made it even more enjoyable. From our welcome drink to the expert instruction, fresh ingredients and delicious food... Go hungry and prepared to have fun😊
Wow - what an awesome experience - instructor has her act together - personable amazing individual with many talents- generous, caring and amazing instructor. Dinner we made was delicious and looked professional and most of all we had a blast!
We had a fantastic experience overall. I requested a slight change to the start time since we were coming from Tokyo, and we were accommodated immediately with our request. Day of, we prepared our entire meal consisting of a seasoned cucumber, karaage and chiasu miso ramen. It was a pleasant surprise that we also made our own ramen noodles from scratch! Everything we made was delicious. Make sure to come hungry if you take the class. Highly recommend, especially if you enjoy ramen or want a different Japanese experience.
Nao was amazing! She is very friendly and gave some great tips and tricks for us to repeat the cooking at home. We had a great time!
Wonderful cooking class and an amazing experience. Aya was an exceptional teacher and ran a engaging class. This class was one of the highlights of our trip.
What a wonderful experience provided in a beautiful part of Kyoto. Aya took us through an informative and fun cooking class covering off ramen, cucumber salad and hand (foot) made noodles! This was a fantastic chance to learn some Japanese cooking and presentation techniques as well as making the recipe easy to understand and gave us the confidence to take what we learnt back home to our friends and family. Wonderful value for money with plenty of food made per person for a filling lunch + drinks to round off the day! Aya was able to answer all our questions and provided a interesting insight into Japanese food, culture and fun! She was also proactive in taking photos of the group which she emailed around after the experience! Thanks Aya + Eat Kyoto
Took this class with my sister. learnt some new skills and tips for making the noodles for the ramen. Aya was a great host and didn't mind explaining things if we had more questions about technique and such. A true highlight of my trip
Aya was a wonderful teacher and a gracious host. She has the class laid out perfectly with certain ingredients done ahead of time and explains the shortcuts we used to make ramen in an hour. She had very clear instructions for each step and helped make a perfect balance of learning and fun.
We arrived at Eat Kyoto after a week of traveling and eating out for dinner. The home environment and Nao's gracious hospitality created a comfortable setting for our Ramen cooking class experience. Nao went to school in the USA and has perfect English, so instructions were clear and the conversation was interesting. Our meal of Ramen, chicken and cucumber salad will definitely be one we recreate back home.
What a great hands on experience. Aya was great fun and very knowledgeable. I'm a chef and she showed us methods that I'd never seen before. If you are doing the lunch, don't eat too much Brekky. Thanks again Aya for a great day.
Lots of fun and great food. You get the recipe and lots of great cooking tips. Highly recommend this cooking class!!
I would highly recommend this cooking experience! Nao was the perfect hostess proving guidance with patience and good humour. This is a course that caters for all skill levels and enables you to create your own Ramen entirely from scratch (yes, including the noodles!). The end result was delicious. Just have to recreate this at home...
We had the most amazing time with Aya at Eat Kyoto. She is very patient and kind and works with you every step of the way. We made so much food and it was all delicious. It was one of the highlights of our trip! The cooking class also happened to be right next to a beautiful pagoda so we got a bonus "sightseeing" opportunity.
My son and I had the BEST time. So fun and delicious. Making everything from scratch was such a wonderful experience. Highly recommend. Great memories!
We had a most enjoyable cooking experience with Aya explaining how and why we were preparing ramen in this way. The cooking area is light and airy with plenty of room for food preparation. She explains the cultural way of doing things, is patient and has a sense of humour. We prepared a delicious meal which we ate for lunch. We have the recipes to prepare at home if we wish. I would thoroughly recommend the course, it was money well spent in a lovely environment. She provided photos of the day to our email addresses when we arrived home.
Worth every penny. Had a great time with my son learning and cooking. The chef and her husband were absolutely wonderful. We can't wait to cook her delicious recipes for our family. I highly recommend this class.
Loved this cooking class! It is a quick walk away from Kiyomizu-dera Temple, so we planned our day accordingly. It was really awesome to walk through the streets down from seeing such an amazing temple. The class is located above a very unique shop called "Happy Bicycle" and we made wonderful conversation with its owner while waiting for the class to start. We even bought his unique handmade bicycle crafts to commemorate our time in Kyoto. As for the class, it was fun, interactive, and we made everything from scratch. My boyfriend LOVES Ramen, so this class was a big hit. We discovered our new favorite Japanese condiment (Yuzu paste) during this class. And Aya was wonderful. I would definitely recommend it!
Would completely recommend signing up for a class to anyone travelling in Kyoto who wants to learn more about Japanese food as well as learning to make some amazing food yourself. I left feeling confident that with a bit of practice I'd be able to successfully recreate the meal at home.
We spent 3 hours with Aya and a lovely group as we knocked up some fantastic ramen. Seriously satisfying noods from scratch, sumptuously soft boiled egg, stock to die for and a cucumber salad that has instantly become a staple in our household. This course is super and Aya is the perfect host.
Do this! What a way to immerse yourself in culture/cuisine and great taste. Really good instruction, easy to follow and tasty to boot!! Don't have a full belly beforehand and you can't go wrong.
The cooking workshop was amazing. A fun, wonderful and enjoyable experience. The guide was very attentive, patient and pleasant.
Nao was a great instructor and we had a lot of fun in the class. It’s great for people of all skill levels and is a fun way to learn how to make ramen. They take pictures and take care of just about everything for you so that you can enjoy the experience. Would definitely go again
Our class was taught by Nao. She was very organized, friendly, and patient. It was very easy to follow and all the food was so tasty! You get to take home the recipes and try using a handcrafted Japanese knife. Bonus - when the class was finished, we got to see the beautiful 5 story pagoda lit up at night. Thanks, Nao!
We learnt to made our own noodles for ramen and also the tasty eggs with soy. It was an easy and delicious menu, our instructor answered our questions about japanese culture (not only food-related) and we had a lot of fun. Totally recommend!
We had a fantastic experience cooking and enjoying ramen with Eat Kyoto. We went with one other couple and were lucky enough to have the class to ourselves. Nao was a great teacher and it was the perfect balance of learning about the food and Japan and enjoying time with friends. The combination of cucumber salad, chicken, and of course the ramen made for a very filling dinner and now we have the recipes to replicate these dishes at home. We can not recommend this activity enough. Not only was the food and instructor amazing but it’s set in an incredible part of Kyoto so we had a lovely evening walking around before/ after the class.
We not only learned about the actual preparing of the ramen but also about the ingredients, what they're made of, how they taste when they're cooked and more! Our instructor was fun, engaging, and full of great tips about traveling in Kyoto. I'd highly recommend a class with Eat Kyoto.
Aya was so welcoming and friendly, we had such a good time. Great cooking class with excellent instruction throughout and to top it off we then ate our delicious home-made Japanese food..best food we have had in Japan so far! Aya shared stories and chatted throughout the day which was great to ask questions about other Japanese traditions and culture. She also have great tips for food, shopping, tours etc. If only she ran more classes! Highly recommended. Don’t miss out. Beautiful location as well :) thank you!!
My wife and I attended the Eat Kyoto Ramen cooking class recently and it was truly an amazing experience! The entire class was so interactive and fun to participate in, from kneading your own noodles to making your own broth. Props to Aya, who was a great & funny teacher that really enhanced the experience! Would definitely recommend it if you are in Kyoto!
I joined the ramen cooking class and it was a wonderful experience. The instructor, Nao, was amazing and I had a wonderful evening. We made ramen from scratch, cucumber salad and chicken and it all tasted lovely. I will definitely make it again at home.
Nao is really nice and it was a great experience ! All the family had a lot of pleasure...we recommend it ! It’s an activity to do.
Best food that we’ve had on our trip in japan so far! Such a fun class to take and very satisfying to make your own ramen noodles from scratch! From the interesting kneading of the noodle dough, to the fancy cutting of the cucumber, this class was an experience. Aya is a great person to have lead the class and her husband’s shop downstairs is like nothing I had seen before. Can not recommend enough! Worth a stop!
Excellent cooking class, best food we’ve had on our trip so far! The teacher was amazing and a wonderful hostess
We had such a great time with Nao making ramen from scratch (something that a lot of Japanese locals don’t even do!), karaage chicken and a beautifully sliced cucumber salad. Loved how informative yet easy going the class was, you each did everything yourself so it was very interactive. Thank you Nao for such a fantastic way to end our time in Kyoto!
Great fun and learnt some interesting cooking techniques. Our last minute request for a booking was met and we happened to be the only 2 people in the class which was nice. One of the most enjoyable parts of our trip. Would return again
Thank you so much Aya, the food and atmosphere was fantastic, we appreciated the cooking lesson and an amazing lunch as well as the great conversation. Really enjoyed cooking together, you’re a wonderful host! We can’t wait to cook this meal for our family and friends when we get home.
The Ramen cooking class was great! Aya was so welcoming and created a very enjoyable atmosphere. She provided all the ingredients and took into account, to only use these which are available in our home country so it would be easy for us to prepare the Ramen dish at home. The instructions she gave us were very direct and easy to follow. She made us all look like professionals. I really enjoyed the course and much more the food itself. The Recipe is just delicious and I am looking forward to cook it at home :)
I got a recommendation from friend to visit Aya's Ramen Workshop and I am so happy about it! Aya is an a amazing cook and such a heartwarming host. We had plenty of time and never got the feeling of a need to hurry. The workshop started with a chat and beer while we talked about the delicious menu she creates with us. The best of is that she offered us to modify the ingredients and the recipe for every individual in our group. So vegetarians got as happy as meat eaters :) All of us were more then satisfied on the end. The food tastes so delicious!!
Aya provided us a wonderful evening - it was just the two of us so we were able to pick her brain about all things food, Japan and Kyoto! She is a very knowledgeable person, great cook and clear facilitator. We felt very warmly welcomed and were so happy with the delicious food we had cooked at the end. Learned some new skills that we can't wait to try at home.
