They made us feel comfortable throughout the entire experience. The photoshoot was so much fun, and the pictures turned out beautifully! We had a wonderful experience at Haogoromoya, The kimono selection was beautiful, and the entire experience made us feel like we were truly immersed in traditional Japanese culture. The staff were friendly, accommodating, very good at english and helpful throughout the session, making us feel comfortable in front of the camera. I had such a fun time-the staff really took the time to personalize the photo shoot for us, from the kimonos we wore, the hair and makeup and the photos we took. They made the whole experience fun, relaxing and just amazing. I loved the kimonos-they were all beautiful and so intricate! You could tell that they really wanted us to wear them properly and have both the kimonos and us look good in the pictures! Highly recommend this place!!

Our Hagoromoya kimono photoshoot was one of our favorite things we did during our two weeks in Japan! We absolutely love our photos, and the entire process was so much fun! Satsuki is a very talented photographer. We had a group of 6 including 2 grandparents and 3 preteen/teen boys. Getting dressed in the many layers of a beautiful kimono is an experience in itself. While we were in Kyoto i could not resist but book a photo shoot with my partner to get photographed in Geisha and Samourai outfits. One of the pictures will be used for our wedding invitation ! What a fabulous experience that i can only recommend. It is not cheap but such good value for money. The service and the team led by Satsuki was exceptional! The Samourai armour and my kimono absolutely exquisite… and the pictures… amazing! And wr had a fabulous time. Satsuki puts you at ease in front of the camera and gives you tips.. don’t wait any further :-)

Had an amazing experience at Hagoromoya! The staff were incredibly friendly and professional — both the photographer and the person who did my hair, makeup, and dressed me in the kimono were welcoming and helpful throughout the whole process. It was such a great memory to make while in Kyoto. They also offer wonderful extra services, like filming the entire process and taking additional photos, which is honestly worth so much more than what you pay. Another huge plus: since there is an indoor option, you don't have to worry about weather or being jostled by crowds outdoors while taking photos in your kimono — it was super hot the day I went, but the studio made it a comfortable, stress-free experience. I'd recommend this place to everyone — families, couples, and individuals of all ages and genders!

This photoshoot in Kyoto became one of the most special memories of our trip. We truly loved everything — the beautiful kimono outfits, the studio atmosphere, and the outdoor session during cherry blossom season. The entire team was incredibly kind, professional, and supportive. What touched us the most was how dedicated everyone was. The team truly gave their all and made us feel comfortable and special throughout the whole experience. Even with nonstop rain during the outdoor session, they managed to create so many wonderful moments and amazing photos. We honestly didn’t expect to receive so many great shots despite the weather. Visiting Osaka, first trip to Japan and decided to take a day trip to Kyoto. Signed up for the studio photo shoot and add on outdoor option. I’m not someone that loves getting pictures taken or is all that photogenic but this seemed like such a special keepsake for my visit. The team were pros and got me relaxed and smiling (even laughing sometimes!) and my pictures came out beautifully. The process of them getting you picture ready was worth the experience by itself!! Absolutely recommend this experience and this photo team in particular…you will not regret it!!

This is a 💯 must do in Kyoto, my son rated the kimono photo shoot experience as his #1 favorite experience of Kyoto, the photographers made him very comfortable, he got to pic his own kimono and he savored feeling like a samurai warrior by using the 🗡️ as a prop, the pictures are videos were beyond stunning and the best value of 💵 i ever spent on a photoshoot 🙌. We got inside photoshoot and outside during cherry blossom season ( April 2026). One thing to note is you have to download the pics on a laptop because the zip file is too large to load on the phone. I have a MacBook and iPhone so for me the process was seamless once I figured it out.

We had an amazing experience for this photoshoot with Satsuki. We were able to book this using our chase sapphire reserve points. The ad from viator didn’t look great, but when we saw photos from some of the reviewers we knew that’s what we wanted. The photoshoot was very professional. One person to dress us in the layers and layers of high quality Kimonos. Satsuki as photographer and her assistant helping. The studio itself was beautiful and located right in the heart of gion. The sign on their studio says “petit wedding”. We loved the photos and everything felt high quality. Some tips for future visitors. Because we booked through Chase she had trouble contacting us before hand. She tried WhatsApp and viator but couldn’t reach my wife. So be on the lookout for messages so that she can get your preferences for hairstyle etc beforehand. Also the app wouldn’t let us book for our teenage son, for some reason the options are child up to age 12 then adult starting at age 20 then it asks for passport verification. So we had to book 3 people instead of 4 and just paid the difference later which wasn’t a problem. Also it says 1.5hrs but that’s for each person so if you want the full experience you should think 4-6 hours so you are not rushed and can do outdoor shots also. We are still very happy with our photos and definitely recommend you try them!!

Our kimono photo studio experience at Hagoromoya was definitely one of the highlights of our Japan trip. Satsuki and her team took very good care of us from start to finish. They were friendly, attentive, detail oriented and did everything they can to make our time and experience memorable. It is definitely a wonderful story to tell our children and grandchildren and we have beautiful pictures to show them. For visitors of Japan, we absolutely recommend that you include the kimono dress up experience in your itinerary and do it with Hagoromoya.

Kyoto is a very meaningful city for me, and I had long dreamed of getting photos in Gion wearing a kimono — something that’s incredibly hard to do on your own when you’re traveling solo. I came across a review of this studio completely by accident and instantly knew: this is it! They have an amazing selection of beautiful kimono — from elegant and understated to richly ceremonial. They even offer several types of armor… maybe next time I’ll choose one of those! What mattered most to me was having the kimono dressed properly in the traditional way, receiving gentle guidance on posing and facial expressions — and my apologies to Satsuki, I promise I’ll try to smile more often! I chose the Kimono Plan, and we agreed on an outdoor photoshoot. It was incredibly easy and comfortable walking around with the photographer and the assistant. She made sure my kimono always looked neat and perfect — I’m deeply grateful for that. At the end of the shoot, I received a finished mini-album with two gorgeous studio portraits, and shortly after, the full set of photos. They are absolutely wonderful… You didn’t just take pictures of me wearing a kimono — you captured my emotions and the way I truly felt in that moment. 10 out of 10 experience. This was an amazing way to capture our trip and have amazing pictures to remember our vacation. The photoshoot was professional and we highly recommend it to anyone looking to emerge yourself in the Japanese culture and get mementos of your photoshoot. I would like to note these kimonos are the real deal they weight 40 pounds are beaded and had gold thread sewn. So they are absolutely gorgeous and they have multiple to choose from (it’s like choosing a wedding gown). We got to choose one picture of ourselves and one together so 3 total pictures that the printed right there the day of and give us. Which was so nice. They put them on a sturdy mat board which I have on my tv mantle. We did the couple shoot and I had my hair and makeup done (which I highly recommend) it made the picture so much better than wearing a wig. About a week later we were sent all 300 pictures from the photoshoot digitally for our keeping. Such a great deal.

Amazing luxury kimono and photography experience. The team is professional, and the photo studio is large with all the lighting, equipments. This is the kind of experience you’d do for pre-wedding pictures, or family portrait that will be hung in your house as a centerpiece. Cannot recommend them enough. Had the most amazing photoshoot in traditional Japanese robes, the staff were amazing in getting me dressed and looking my best, and guiding me during the photoshoot! It was a great experience both in the studio and outside in the streets of old Kyoto (only permitted before 12 noon), highly recommended to anyone looking for an elevated kimono rental and photoshoot experience!

Thank you Satsuki and the team at Hagoromoya for the most memorable experience from our time in Kyoto! Everything about the time we spent with them was exceptional. We booked the Meoto Plan and also included the additional outside photo option. I am so glad we added the Storefront shoot as these photos are incredible and really capture the beautiful location, which is in a prime spot. We have the most beautiful photos from the Storefront, Gion Shirakawa, and the beautiful shrine. We were dressed in the most gorgeous outfits and not a single detail was missed. Every care was taken to ensure that we both looked perfect at all times. All of the staff were so kind and professional, they guided us through the process and poses to get the best results. We were made feel so comfortable and relaxed. We even had printed photos available to take home with us that day, which I was not expecting! When our photos and videos from the session arrived, we were blown away at how perfect they were. I truly cannot recommend them enough, booking this experience was the best decision we made for our trip. As a bonus, she even convinced my husband—who was hesitant at first—to join me for a photo. They were so warm and genuine that he happily gave in, and now we have a beautiful memory together. We had an absolute great experience with the team of Hagoromoya. They were very skilled in getting us traditionally dressed in the kimono and yukata. The photographer was warm and nice, she knew how to make you comfortable in the picture. When necessary, she gave directions and tips to get the best poses. They all took the time for us and were genuinely trying to make it an enjoyable experience.

If you're thinking of renting a kimono in Japan, be careful where you go. A lot of rental places offer yukata, which are actually the casual version of kimono. They’re cute, but kind of like the T-shirt and jeans of old Japan. This place was completely different. I wore a real, formal kimono that looked like something an actual Japanese noblewoman would have worn. They even had samurai-style armor for photos if you’re into that. The quality, the attention to detail, everything was on another level. The staff made the experience even better. The hair and makeup stylist reminded me of one of those sweet grandmas from anime. She was so kind, and at the same time incredibly skilled. She’s been doing traditional styling in Kyoto for over 20 years, and it really shows. The photographer was amazing too. She’s done over 40,000 wedding shoots, helped me with all my poses, made me laugh, and spoke great English. I’m usually pretty shy in front of the camera, but she made it feel so easy and fun. You can choose to shoot indoors with beautiful backgrounds or go outside for shots in the middle of Gion. I loved having both options, especially since the indoor studio had air conditioning, which was a lifesaver. I’ve done other kimono photoshoots before, but this was by far the most rewarding. It felt like I had stepped into a storybook version of Kyoto. If you’re looking for something more meaningful and immersive, this is the place to go.

I did a photoshoot with Satsuki in samurai armor. Both she and her assistants are very professional and help you with everything, from getting dressed to choosing poses and anything else you might need. They are very friendly and welcoming! You can see the results of the photos at the end of the session, which are of high quality.
