Great for all levels and engaging. Educational and interactive. Would recommend strongly! And his acting skills for his death scenes are lovely!
Such an amazing experience! Our sensei was brilliant. So informative, engaging and genuinely a great teacher. You can tell how much she loves the art and history of the ninja, and her enthusiasm is infectious. You instantly find yourself fascinated by it too. The whole lesson was fascinating, fun and completely different to anything else we did in Japan. We came away with so many great stories, memories and photos. Would 110% recommend to anyone visiting Japan!
This was such a great experience for the whole family. It had an educational component where we were able to learn about the history of the ninjas, but the highlights were definitely learning how to fight and act with stealth like the real ninjas did. Great for all ages, our 12 & 14 year olds loved it! There were lots of laughs and we all had a memorable time.
Not a tourist trap and photo opportunity. Authentic experience with trained instructor. Chikiro was amazing!!!! She encouraged us and guided us through multiple weapons and experiences. This is unlike others!!! Train with more weapons, learn authentic techniques. Do not waste your time with boring samurai experience. Best. Experience. Ever.
This was an awesome experience for our whole family. We had so much fun! Thank you to the amazing instructor and the Ninja Dojo team!
Really fun experience. Couple of hours went so quickly. Cozy dojo and shop, not too crouded which gave personalized touch to each participant :)
This was a fun experience for the family. It was very engaging from donning the clothes to learning the history, and practicing techniques including stealthy walking, using hidden doors, and throwing stars, knives, and blowing darts. A great activity for our teens and adults alike!
Our family had a great time! My 3 teenage sons loved this experience the best. Great teacher and good all around learning about ninjas!
This ninja experience was absolutely amazing. Our instructor was patient and thorough with her directions. Her assistant outfitted us, took pictures of us throughout the event, and emailed the pictures to us. We were introduced to ninja warmup/meditation, walking, sword technique, and interacted with ninja stars, blow darts, and other weapons. Great shop within the dojo to buy items to take home (offers shipping for larger items). 5 stars and great for a family!!
As a practitioner of various martial arts (the kind without weapons), I booked this in order to get experience of that other type of art. My teacher (I never asked her name, oops!) was very nice, knowledgeable, and fluent in English. She also entertained my attempts to speak Japanese too lol. We went through various aspects of ninja martial arts and techniques. There are the ones we see in anime, like hand signs and hiding behind rotating walls, but there was also cultural lessons about how each weapon or tool was used. Somehow my previous training helped a lot for all the physical motions and techniques. I was able to hit targets with shuriken and such, and my swordplay was decent enough to do a short fight choreography with my teacher. I was allowed to record the whole session for my personal vlog. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in martial arts culture, just be careful that it’s somewhat physically demanding!
Fun experience with a skilled instructor, more than we expected, can highly recommend this class and photos are provided
Went as a family with our 10 and 13 year old boys for the 2 hour ninja lesson, which was excellent. Great fun for all of us and the boys loved it, especially learning skills with all the different weapons. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto.
This ninja experience was a standout highlight of our Japan trip! The two-hour experience felt incredibly authentic and immersive. We learned about history, used traditional tools like shurikens and blow darts, and practiced stealth walking. The class was well-paced, led by Sensei Jack, who was exceptional in his explanations and teachings. We loved that they took photos for us and that the venue doubles as a real ninjutsu dojo. Huge thank you to the team for such a memorable experience. Highly recommended!
This experience was a great activity for a couple looking for something different to include in their trip itinerary. The two hour class included meditation, ninja walking, ninja sword, samurai sword, shuriken, Kunai, dagger, blow dart, and other Ninja tool demonstration and attempts. The instructor did a great job keeping it entertaining and enjoyable throughout.
Great experience even for newbies. Learned a lot and what a fun way for a unique Japan experience. They took photos too for remembrance.
My kids (ages 10 and 12) said this was their favorite experience in Kyoto! It was super fun and very hands on. I definitely recommend it!
We had so much fun. Starting out with ninja hand movements in preparation of missions, moving on to breathing and moving like a ninja, which made us able to avoid traps without looking. We tries out so many different ninja weapons, which was a blast. The instructors were very kind and worked perfectly with the young enthousiasm of our 6 year old. The ninja store also sold some impressive things, from souvenirs to replicas to real weapons. I would recommend this experience to anyone who is looking something fun to do.
Having learned of Ninja Dojo And Store through the YouTube channel "Let's Ask Shogo", I was not only drawn to their ninja weapons and gear but, additionally, thrilled to find out ninjutsu is taught within the two floors of their business. Sensei Jun-Jun's expertise in fighting techniques and weaponry is matched by his enthusiasm, humor and knowledge of ninja origins and history. Within two hours, I had learned so much about ninjutsu compared to the countless movies, animes and video games I had sourced my knowledge. My experience at Ninja Dojo And Store alone was worth the trip to Japan. Of course, that's not to say I didn't enjoy the other many wonderful things to do and see in Japan. Only downside is not having the privilege to access the dojo as often as I want being from USA. On the other hand, it makes taking in all the information more seriously. I'm hoping the business will expand globally. Until then, my next lesson will just have to resume when I revisit Japan next year.
A very entertaining way of spending a morning in Kyoto. We had an exciting time pretending to be ninjas for two hours. I recommend this to both old and young ones.
After dressing up like ninjas we learnt several techniques like how to breathe and walk, how to use kunai and ninja swords, ninja dart blowing and ninja meditation known as 'Kuji-In'. We also learnt the many weapons used by ninjas, including every objects like cutlery, The instructor and her assistant were lovely, very patient and keen for us to master as much as possible the different techniques. We even got a great number of photos and videos on the session.
Massive thank you to Sean and Mai for providing an amazing experience. All four of us feel like proper Ninjas now, learning how to walk correctly (it’s harder than you think), how to use swords (Ninja and Samurai), throwing stars, and a blowpipe! The team were really knowledgable in the ways of the Ninja, and knew the answers to our range of random questions. Thanks again to both of them!
5/5 would recommend. Great knowledge shared in a fun way, great banter. Enjoyed getting outfits to this experience. Getting to use a range of weapons. Hospitality was amazing and they also sent me some pictures and videos they took aswell to add to the experince.
FABULOUS! We took the kids to Japan for spring break and wanted to have a fun family activity. This experience was our 3 boys favorite thing from the entire trip! Master Sho was patient with the boys, very skilled in his craft and also hilarious! 😃 We had a great time learning to use a variety of weapons, including shurikens, katanas, kusarigama, kyoketsu-shoge, blow darts, and famous sneak attacks that ninjas are known for. If you visit Kyoto definitely add this experience to your itinerary!
Enjoyed the teachers and their style. The experience overall was great and currently is the highlight of our Japan trip. Went as 2 adults and 2 kids and did the 2 hour lesson and it was a nice balance of learning a little about history and then most of the activity was hands on trying to/ learning ninja moves and strategy. We loved it.
Lots of fun, instructor was friendly and gave us lots of information and everyone was friendly :)
I had an absolute blast doing this. From the start where they dress you up and make you kneel and all that - the fighting moves and weapons play was so cool. 🔥
This was the best thing my son and his dad experienced during our stay in Japan. It was really cool and fascinating. They both loved it. Highly recommended.
忍道 – The way of perseverance and endurance. The strength to remain steadfast and resilience under the chaotic world. What was once specialists in intelligence gathering and various field of other arts, has now become a fun experience for all, including myself who chanced upon this 2-hour courses while searching for things to do in Kyoto. There are practical lessons taught on breathing techniques, hand seal gesture, ninja walking in the dark, demonstration on some weapons used by ninja, and of course, hands on experience as well. To master them well, one must have balance and harmony with movement and stillness. Like the musical instrument, string that are too tight will break, and too slack cannot produce any sound. Everything has a point where it is just right, music play and things are in harmony. In martial arts, it is the centre of gravity. So is the way of ninja walking, with the sake bottle on the head, keeping your harmony as you walk. And is the same as the string weapon, finding the right way to spin. These experiences are valuable which you can take away and applied in your life, to remain calm and steadfast in your task at hand and be immovable as a mountain even when faced with danger. Recommended for anyone having an interest in ninjutsu, and finding things to do in Kyoto.
My daughter and I very much enjoyed our exposure training class with Tomoe our instructor. We had a mixed cultural and hands on experience from philosophy to meditation to technique and it was an excellent introduction to the way of the ninja and their contribution to Japanese society. I highly recommended this immersive experience delivered in an atmosphere of respect and tradition. Stephen
We had lots of fun today, learning about ninja methods and techniques, including sword handling, throwing shurikens and using blow darts. Loved our time here.
Teens were skeptical about this but ended up being fun. Our teacher was fantastic - super knowledgeable and helpful. Got to get into action and try several of the weapons. Where else can you go to throw shurikens (ninja stars).
It’s official! We’re Ninja certified. Such a fun experience! Full Ninja attire. Swords, stars, shuriken, blow darts and more! The instructors were great!
Jack was amazing. We did the 2 hour experience with a 7 and 9 year old. We all had a blast. Jack was so much fun. His music also rocks!
We had such a great time at the Ninja Dojo experience. The instructors were excellent, and made the session great fun. The time absolutely flew by. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto.
We had a great time in our lesson. We learned about ninjas, we were taught some moves and we were able to try out some weapons. After our class we received some wonderful photos and videos of our lesson. Thank you!
Such an incredibly special and unique experience! Thank you to Sensei Sho and Yuri for a fantastic 2-hr Ninja Hands-On Lesson. For those who have ever been interested in the art, history or legend of the Ninja, this is an ideal experience because it’s run by a Dojo whose Grandmaster was born in Iga and trained in the true Ninja arts of the Iga school. That means the lessons are rooted more with a little bit of history and gives participants a taster of what you might learn in a Ninjutsu class - from spells, walking, and weaponry. What I really liked was that it wasn’t gimmicky or cheesy, and I didn’t feel awkward putting on the Ninja clothing - I felt like I was going to class and putting on my uniform. To be fair, even if you’ve not been very aware or interested Ninja legends and history before, it’s still a fun and interactive way learning about the different weapons used in the past and learning about one part of Japan’s history. Sensei Sho - as an experienced tour guide - was great at telling the story around each segment of the lesson. He was patient, funny, and we appreciated his gift of explaining things in a way we could understand, so my husband and I felt like we really absorbed everything he had to say. We also loved the weapons demonstration with him! A lot were harder than it looked but all were really fascinating… makes me wish we had a dojo here. Yuri took amazing photographs for us to capture some of the best moments (see photos attached). The owner Izo was also incredibly helpful and attentive. Thanks again for such a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this experience.
We had a great time! The staff was lovely and knowledgeable. The activities were so much fun to do! We wished the experience lasted an entire day!
This is definitely a must do when in Kyoto/Japan it was so much fun and we learnt alot while laughing all the way thru it..using real weapons was a highlight
We came early (15min) left our shoes at the door, put on the slippers found in the shoe boxes provided and made our way up the stairs. We were welcomed by Sho at the door, where we were transformed into kindergarten Ninja… ready to learn the secret art. Prepare for fun, learning many things and even trying to kill a foam bullseye by throwing chopsticks, knives and forks :) A great experience to have, but beware… you will never look at kitchen utensils the same way again!
Book this!! We brought our five children (ages 5-12) and everyone had an incredible time. We learned so many skills and so much history from Sensei, who was kind, knowledgeable, patient, and very funny! She made every lesson accessible, taught each child according to their level of understanding, challenged us, and gave us an experience of a lifetime. We are deeply grateful for her kindness and generosity in sharing her knowledge and skills. Don't hesitate; if you are in Kyoto, this is truly a gem.
This was probably one of our best times in Japan- all 8 of us took the lesson together. Ages 6 to 68. The instructor was patient with our 6 and 10 year olds, and humored us all when we stabbed him! We learned knives, darts, stars, ninja stealth and so much more. Please take the time to visit and learn with this great Dojo.
Great fun learning Ninja skills with lots of interesting information from the friendly and knowledgeable instructor. Perfect family activity. Would definitely recommend!
Our family had an incredible time at this Ninja workshop in Kyoto. The session was fun, hands-on, and full of energy from start to finish. We got to try different traditional ninja weapons, learn about stealth techniques, and discover fascinating facts about ninja history and culture. The instructor gave great explanations and demonstrations — clear, engaging, and full of humor. It was a perfect mix of learning and action — a truly unique cultural experience we’ll never forget. Highly recommended for families visiting Japan!
Fun for kids or adults who are kids at heart. This experience is touristy, but it feels authentic enough that it might even be the highlight of your trip. The instructor is very supportive and is good at giving directions. The staff is friendly. The store itself is well stocked, and the prices are cheaper than other tourist stores.
We had a fantastic time at the Ninja Dojo and Store! We learned so much about ninjas — from using a secret door, blowing darts , to handling traditional weapons and even mastering how to walk like a ninja. The instructors made the whole experience fun, hands-on, and unforgettable. Out of everything we’ve done in Kyoto, this was by far the best experience. Highly recommend to anyone visiting!
Great 2 hour session of learning ninja moves and training in various weaponry! I did it along with my 7 year old son, who is obsessed with ninjas and absolutely loved it! Would def recommend if you're in Kyoto!
Incredibly fun & unique. I really enjoyed it. The instructor was very educated and talented. Really enjoyed the format and the uniforms we got to wear
We had a great time and greatly enjoyed the experience. The photos were much appreciated as well! Highly recommended experience in Kyoto for those interested in ninja and martial arts.
It’s a real Dojo not just a tourist attraction. Sho was my instructor and is extremely knowledgeable. They even had some antique weapons for sale. 100% worth doing and I might even go back if time permits
