Beautiful cooking experience where we could make and eat some traditional Japanese dishes. We felt welcomed into her beautiful home and enjoyed it tremendously. A lovely morning and lunch experience. After we went to the supermarket where she showed us some of the ingredients used in the preparation of the earlier foods and also showed us the various in season delicacies.
It was great!! Lovely teacher and great atmosphere
Great experience!!! Amazing guide and delicious food!
Mihoko is a terrific teacher. She provided great explanations and everything we cooked turned out great. We can’t wait to try these recipes at home.
What a lovely genuine lady Miho is, the food was amazing, and we learnt some fantastic cooking techniques and had some amazing food. Japanese food is all about balance, texture and flavour. Miho accommodated my fussiness while still being able to accommodate my husband who can and will eat anything. Highlight of our trip and loved doing the class in a Japanese house, thankyou so much Miho
The host was very knowledgeable and explained everything about Japanese cuisine in a wonderful way. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot about different ingredients and products. The atmosphere was very warm and homey. I highly recommend this course! 😊
My wife and I had the most amazing time with this cooking class. Our instructor Miho was very kind, welcoming, and fun! I feel like we learned a lot and had a great time talking with Miho, and the food was delicious. Thank you so much Miho for an unforgettable experience in Kyoto!
Great experience! Hands-on learning made it possible to prepare seven different items including sushi, vegetable tempura, miso soup and mochi. I preferred this class to other one-recipe options. The grocery store tour at the end was key to discovering tasty Japanese treats we would not otherwise have discovered. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful time! We managed to make a full Japanese lunch, including futomaki and an egg roll/omelette. Miho is a skilled and patient teacher, always ready to answer questions. She teaches you technique and culture. The supermarket visit is lively and informative. Besides making delicious food, the experience is excellent due to Miho herself, who is kind and lovely.
So good experienced. Good food and good experience. We've learned so much things !! We recommend it !
The absolute best! The kindest host and cosiest, most impressive lunch! I felt so looked after, gained so much knowledge and experience and had the best time. Absolutely delicious food that you can take home if you can't eat it all (you make soo much) and it's some of the best food I've had since being in Japan. The supermarket tour is such a lovely addition and she's the loveliest person to spend time with. I hugely recommend it :)
Had an amazing time learning how to make a tasty Japanese meal with Mihoko. She was fantastic! We even went to the local grocery store and she pointed out some popular Japanese ingredients and foods. Highly recommend if you enjoy cooking and learning about the local cuisine!
We loved the experience of cooking in someone’s house to see a tradition Japanese home and make traditional Japanese food. The tempura and miso soup were my favorites.
It was our first time to Japan and this cooking experience was absolutely amazing. Having Miho as our teacher was perfect. To have this cooking experience at a home made it more intimate. Not only did she teach us how to cook, but she explained the significance of some of the ingredients. From miso soup, sushi, to mochi ice cream for dessert, everything we made was delicious! After making our delicious meal, we were able to enjoy it in a traditional way. Miho also took us to the market and showed us many types of food and ingredients. This cooking experience is a must! Truly a memorable time! Thank you Miho for opening up your place to us and teaching us some Japanese dishes.
I had the most wonderful experience in my cooking class with Milo! She was so lovely and taught me so much about the different ingredients and techniques to make a variety of traditional Japanese foods. I am so glad we made so many different items. Now I can brag that I can make tamagoyaki! Making it in a local home made it even more special. I highly recommend for other solo travelers and groups! Cannot wait to introduce her teachings to family and friends back home.
Experiencing the daily lives of Japanese locals is something that is easily missed in simple travel. This opportunity not only teaches you the foundation of Japanese cooking, but it also exposes you to the Japanese home life! Our cooking instructor provided us with surprising and insightful answers to all our curious questions. This was by far the best part of our trip in Kyoto.
One of the highlights of our trip! We always like to do cooking classes when we travel and this one is a stand-out. Miho is a wonderful, knowledgeable host and we had such a lovely time learning from and chatting with her. The class was very well-organized and ran smoothly, but never felt rushed. We really liked that we made a variety of dishes to create a delicious, filling lunch set which we got to enjoy in Miho’s traditional Japanese room with tatami flooring. And the supermarket trip at the end was the icing on top!
Amazing expericence! The food we made ourselves was delicious and learned alot about Japanse food! You make 5 different dishes.
It was such a great experience! The food was amazing, the host was really friendly and helpful, answered our questions. We did some side dishes, sushi, eggroll omlete (it was difficult to flip it but I always wanted to learn it :D ) And we did our mochi! Turns out it’s not so difficult and is delicious! We will do our own at home for sure! Thank you Miho for the great classes
We had so much joy cooking traditional Kyoto food with Miho and definitely would recommend that to anyone who would like to both try eating and cooking with an amazing teacher. It was great!
I was traveling in Kyoto for 2 days on my own this week, and I really wanted to learn some Japanese home cooking since my family back home loves Japanese food. My teacher was Miho - we met at Iroha cooking studio which is in a really pretty Japanese home near Fushimi Inari. We've made the following dishes: 1. Dashi Tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omlette with Dashi) 2. Spinach with sesame dressing - came out amazing! Really surprised me by how good this side dish was. 3. Inari Sushi 4. Maki Sushi with egg and vegetagles. 5. Tempura vegetables (which it turned out are easier to make than I expected and in my opinion came out really great and much tastier than the ones I usually eat at restaurants in the US) 6. Miso soup 7. Mochi ice cream for dessert When I got in I told Miho I have very little experience with cooking, and she explained everything really patiently while we were cooking. I now feel confident I can repeat this process by myself, and can't wait to make this meal for my family! After we were done, I sat down to eat. It was a LOT of food, and everything came out incredible. I also had a lot of maki rolls left over which were enough for me for dinner as well. After eating, Miho took me to the local supermarket, where she showed me where to buy the different ingredients we used, and also gave recommendations for things that could be good souvenirs. The location of this class is also really good for combining with a trip to Fushimi Inari (it's around 10 minutes walk from where the class is held).
Miho was an amazing instructor that allowed us to get very hands on with traditional, delicious Japanese dishes. She was very prepared, and English was excellent. We’ve done several different cooking classes throughout the world and this one was one of the best.
We are so glad we choose this experience! Excellent teacher with education and technique. Not to mention the food was delicious! Highly recommend :-)
Thank you for opening your home to us and sharing your passion for Japanese cooking. We had such a great time learning, tasting, and experiencing your culture through food.
We had a great time in Miho's kitchen. We learnt how to make miso soup, matcha, sushi, spinach salad, and tempura. She was super friendly and knowledgeable and also sent us the recipes. The visit to the supermarket was also a great bonus as understanding what is everything is not simple in Japan.
Hands on. Lots of information. Knowledgeable and personable. Learn techniques for a variety of dishes. Plus ends with mochi (made by us) so how can you go wrong.
We visited Miho in the morning, and were introduced to a beautiful room, to have some water and snacks, and then got straight into the cooking- the cooking was super fun, and we learned a lot about Japanese traditional cooking, and the food was superb! We had a great time with Miho, and would recommend this experience a lot!!
We had wonderful cooking class experience. We learned many traditional Japanese cooking techniques, the meal was great and also the supermarket trip was wonderful.
Miho is so lovely and friendly, and encouraging despite our lack of cooking talent! The meal we prepared was enormous and delightful. Time in kyoto very well spent as a family with two teens. Thank you, Miho!
Miho is very friendly and her instruction were clear! We had a good time in family doing Japanese sweets. Everyone enjoyed the experience!
Amazing class. Teacher spoke fluent English. She taught us how to make delicious Japanese foods. We thoroughly enjoyed everything.
One of rhe beat cooking classes I have ever taken. Mihoko's English is excellent and her instructions were clear. She showed us how to do a task and then let us do it ourselves, reinforcing our learning. Everything we made tasted so good! The supermarket tour was interesting and related to the dishes we made. I would highly recommend this cooking class!!!
Great experience with my kids. We had so much fun and learned a lot. If you like cooking I recommend it. Not to mention you get to enjoy your meal at the end.
A fun, inter-active experience. Mihoko was kind and generous with a lovely sense of humour. We highly recommend her cooking school for couples too!
This class was a great way to introduce us to Japanese home cooking as we had booked an Airbnb for a few days in Kyoto. We really enjoyed our cooking class in Miho’s lovey home - she was so friendly and helpful. We ate the delicious meal we cooked in her beautiful tatami room with looking out into an elegant Japanese garden. It was a nice walk along the canal to the supermarket where Miho introduced us to the mysteries of Japanese food shopping. The area is lovely and really convenient for the Fushimi Inari Shrine which we visited after.
One of the best things you can do when visiting Japan! Highly recommend spending the afternoon with Miho. Menu selection was simple and easy. It was exactly the type of cooking class I was looking for. Simple home cooking. She taught me how to make variations to what we were making on the day. Highly recommend the trip to the supermarket also. She offered lots of insight into the staple ingredients typically used in Japanese dishes. A memorable afternoon for sure!
The mystery of sushi meal unraveled. Just loved it. Our group 6 of us learned so much. An inspiration. Highly recommended. Miho and Naomi were amazing.
Vert cosy experience with just 3 persons in a regular house. The food was diverse and tasty. The supermarket tour at the end was also cool and informative.
A real pleasure. Interesting process and delicious outcomes. Super recommended! Minho is friendly and knowledgeable and the facilities are perfect.
Did 2 cooking classes with Miho: started with a typical Japanese meal (miso soup, omelette, inari and making sushi and spinach salad) as well as mochi, and liked this experience so much that we then took the desert class as well (dango, doriyaki and mochi). Miho explained everything so well, the dishes were delicious (some of them even better than those tried at different street food vendors). Most (if not all) of the recipes seem recreateble at home. It was fun, creative, informative, and delicious, thank you Miho!
Miho is fantastic! We were welcomed into a beautiful home and learned to prepare a wonderful multi-course meal, including sushi and mochi-covered ice cream. I especially enjoyed the supermarket tour at the end, where we were able to buy some of the ingredients. It was an experience not available in any other tour--like visiting a friend's house and having a look into day-to-day life. Our schedule was tight, and Miho even helped us get a taxi to the airport after our class.
Amazing authentic Japanese cooking in the home with easy instructions Enjoyed it very much with my adult children. Highly recommend
Miho was great. I highly recommend this class. She gave guided instruction on how to prepare a number of local dishes and provided interesting background on Japanese cuisine. Miho was friendly and graciously answered many questions that the group had. Her English is perfect and easily understandable.
Fantastic experience with Miho mastering a class of 5 people. From Sushi to Mochi, learning as well how to make an exquisite Miso soup, we had 4 hours course. I would recommend it to any people who is willing to deep dive into the Japanese life style.
We love this cooking experience so much. It was very special to be welcomed in and now we know recipes we could confidently cook back home. Having also been taken in through the supermarket, we know which ingredients to buy. Wonderful experience, we would highly recommend.
Our host, Miho, was an incredibly welcoming and patient instructor for our wagashi-making session. She was knowledgeable with cooking and knew how ingredients play together. We would definitely book for another session on a future trip to Japan.
Awesome and super nice host. Really learnt a lot and the sweets were amazing. Also had a green tea with it made by the host.
Highlight of my trip to Kyoto and I’ve been staying here for a while on a little solo retreat! Miho is incredible and informative and just the best teacher, I went in not being confident in my cooking skills and left feeling super grateful and excited to cook for my friends and family back in Australia and share this gorgeous cuisine with them! You will take part in cooking every single dish, there’s 6 people max so it’s such a tightly knit little group and amazing getting to know one another and share this experience- next up getting an abundance of cute little bowls and plates to bring home too!! Thank you Miho and your amazing friend you two are rays of light 🥰 also thank you for accommodating my gluten free - ness !
It was such a nice experiece that we can only recommemd. The cooking was really fun and the good turned out delicious. The whole team was so lovely, thank you!
