Itinerary
Make your Kyoto experience part of everyday life: paint your ramen bowl, cook a meal, and take home a keepsake made by you. At Musoshin Ramen Academy, combine ceramic painting with hands-on ramen cooking. Choose your colors, bring your design to life, and turn a ceramic bowl into a reminder of your time in Kyoto. Then step into the kitchen and prepare ramen using the same ingredients served in Musoshin’s restaurants: fresh noodles rested overnight, soup prepared over 12 hours, house-made tare seasoning, and chashu pork. Boil your noodles, arrange your toppings, and sit down to savor the bowl you have created. Founded in Kyoto in 2012, Musoshin brings its passion for ramen to every experience. Our Toronto restaurant has been featured in the MICHELIN Guide for five consecutive years. Our Gion restaurant was selected for Dazhong Dianping’s 2026 Must-Eat List (必吃榜) and was one of three restaurants from Japan invited to the awards ceremony. Your painted bowl will be kiln-fired overnight and ready for collection the following day. Shipping to your hotel can also be arranged for an additional fee. Come for the ramen. Leave with a skill, a keepsake, and a Kyoto story to share.

It was an amazing class where they explained the process of everything
Amazing class!! Yuki is such a wonderful instructor, made the experience so fun and we learned so much. Highly recommended this class for anyone looking for something fun and engaging.
What a great experience! Yuki was a fantastic host and went over and beyond with lots of recommendations for us. The ramen was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed learning how to make it, something I can take home with me- thank you!
Loved it and the ramen itself was actually delicious. The place is a bit hard to find but once there it’s easy to see why this place thrives. Guides were great and spoke very good English, the painting was easy and the food making was well handled. I didn’t realize you had to go back the next day to pick up your bowel so that I’d want people to know about. It may be that I missed it in the description.
This is a great crafting / cooking experience for kids and grownups. They are very patient with little ones. We did it with a 4 year old and 9 year old. They are great at adapting based on the abilities of the kids and very patient when the little one runs around and plays instead of staying on task. One of the kids’ favorite Kyoto experiences!
Great family activity! Sherry was wonderful, and we had a fantastic time. We started by painting our own ramen bowls and then learned how to make ramen from scratch. We’re excited to try making ramen at home and enjoying it in our hand-painted bowls. Just be sure to plan on picking up your bowls the next day after they’ve been fired. Highly recommended!
Very well organized, Makoto was super friendly and spoke English, and the ramen was great
This is a perfect activity for couples, friend groups, or kids/family. Funny and energetic hosts gave great tips for making their signature ramen dish with full recipe provided (but the actual activity is making it with their premade ingredients to save time with kids). It is delicious! The bowl painting activity is really fun to do together, and a nice memory of our trip. Highly recommend.
In this class you paint a ramen bowl and assemble your ramen from disparate parts. You do get to mix the sauce and broth together and cook the noodles. The guides speak passable english. This is a great class for children, but may be a bit too basic for adults with good cooking skills.
This was one of the best experiences we’ve had across both Kyoto and Tokyo! Sherry and Chef Shin were wonderful and made the experience so much fun. They walked us through their ramen making process and gave us some hands experience for making our own! 5 star experience! Truly awesome!
Super nice people. Great ramen. Lots of fun!
Highly recommend, very fun and wonderful crew! Ramen is delicious and best I have had!
Amazing experience, lots of fun. Very knowledgeable and funny instructors. Ramen was delicious:)
We had a really great time painting our bowls and then making and eating the ramen. Painting our bowls was very relaxing, and the ramen-making was very fun. The ramen we made was so delicious and creamy. Thank you to the staff who were all so friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend this ramen-making experience!
The ramen cooking class was a great time for our family. It’s an absolute must-do in Kyoto. The ramen you make is exceptional and the class itself was fun for both parents and kids. Sherry was wonderful as our cooking instructor. Highly recommended experience.
I honestly could not recommend this experience more highly. Shin is incredibly talented and genuinely makes some of the best ramen in the world. We feel so grateful to have learned from him, he is so knowledgeable, passionate, and fun, and you can really feel how much he loves what he does. Sherry was made for this job and made the class an absolute joy. Her English is amazing (despite her insisting it’s not!), and she brought so much warmth and humour to the experience. I would honestly recommend people come to Kyoto just for this class.
What an excellent experience! My family and I visited Kyoto for the first time and this was the first activity we had planned. We went with the bowl painting, but they offer spoons and aprons as well. The hosts/chefs, Mika and Shin, were a delight; so kind, informative, and took adorable pictures of our group. Finally, most importantly, the ramen that you build together is delicious! Bonus, you get to navigate some lovely small back streets to get to their location.
Exceptional experience with Shin learning how to make hands down the BEST ramen we have ever eaten! You can tell the passion Shin has for his cooking just by listening to him talk about the process. He was very friendly and answered all the questions we had in regards to the recipe and about his love for food as well
The Ramen was absolutely amazing! We were treated incredibly by Shin and he was so warm welcoming throughout. Highly recommended, bowl painting was a bonus with Sake drink to enjoy with our meal.
Shin was a brilliant host who made the experience authentic and personable. Would highly recommend especially with the bowl painting included.
Amazing experience. Shin is very kind and informative. He was taking pictures for us the whole time. We had a fun time painting ramen bowls and making ramen!
Great way to learn about ramen and what goes into making every single ingredient. We enjoyed making the bowls and were able to take our bandanas home as souvenirs! The owner/chef hosted our class which a real treat. My husband, 12 year old daughter and I really enjoyed this experience. Would highly recommend.
