It is one of the most famous streets in Kyoto. You may see a Maiko or Geiko if lucky. If you see a Maiko or Geiko, greet them with a smile and say "Konnichiwa."
It is a shrine that helps men and women meet each other and cut off bad relationships. In the case of a married couple or a couple, the bond will be stronger.
This road leads near Kiyomizu-dera Temple. This road also has a beautiful traditional Kyoto townscape, and Yasaka-no-to (Yasaka Pagoda) is especially popular.
It was built in 1955 to pray for the repose of the souls of the victims of World War II. There is a very large statue of Kannon.
It was built about 400 years ago by the wife of a shogun to mourn the death of her husband. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful garden, the 400-year-old tea ceremony house, and the bamboo grove. Also, this place is not as crowded as Kiyomizu-dera Temple and is a perfect temple to feel the calm atmosphere of Kyoto. Caution: Daytime only Closing time is 5 pm.
Yasaka Shrine is the head shrine of approximately 2,300 related shrines throughout Japan. Yasaka Shrine is known as "Gion-san" for its blessings to ward off bad luck, bring good luck, and promote beauty.
It was a pleasure to have Natsu as our guide. She was knowledgeable about geikos and maikos, explaining their traditions, training and culture. She gave us insight into the districts, temple and shrines we stopped st. To top it off, she had personality plus!
Walking through Gion last night was magical. Kevin, our guide, was so knowledgeable, and what I appreciated most was how he helped me understand what I was seeing. I learned so much about the history of Kyoto’s geisha and the significance of its shrines and temples. I found myself looking at Gion with different eyes by the end of the evening. If you have a chance to explore Gion with Kevin, I highly recommend it. Mahalo, Kevin, for an evening I’ll remember long after I leave Kyoto!

This was by far one of the best tours we have taken. Our guide Araj (and I apologize if I have the name misspelled (lovely ubdergrad studying in Japan from India) was so informative! She introduced us to a whole site of Kyoto that we would just not have seen on our own. In fact, it had been there allalong, but she truly uncovered it. She was patient with all of our questions, told interesting stories, and just was informative all around.
Raj is a fabulous tour guide. She has in depth understanding of Japanese culture and did a great job of explaining in details about Geisha / Gion history. Highly recommend this tour!
We went on this tour on the 8th of October 2026- 18:00, the tour was genuinely interesting and enjoyable. Our guide, Pam, was very friendly and pleasant to talk to, as well as informative, she answered all of our questions. I highly recommend this tour if you’re interested in the Geisha culture and the Shinto religion, which is present everywhere in Japan (A combination of Shinto and Buddhism is Japan’s main religion). This tour was highly enjoyable, and even more so thanks to our great guide Pam. 5 out of 5.

The sites were great and the tour was okay. Not as engaging as other tours I’ve been part of, Karen followed the script for sure but I expect more anecdotes from someone born and raised in Kyoto. Very surface level.
Our guide Sophie was providing us excellent information about Geishas and their way of life. She took us for a lovely nightly walk through Kyoto and I know much more about this part of town than before!

This was one of the first things we did in Kyoto and we loved it! Our kids are aged 10, 13, and 17 and they were engaged and also really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Natsu, was so friendly and informative. Walking the streets of Kyoto at night with all the lights and lanterns really was magical! Highly recommend!
Great way to discover Gion and surrounding areas and learn about the history of Geisha. Don’t expect to see any Geisha, but that doesn’t detract from the tour. Got to see some beautiful hidden shrines and learn about them which would have otherwise missed

It was great to tour the area in the evening when it was less croweded and cooler. Our tour guide was very nice and was able to add her personal experience as a local growing up in Kyoto.
Me and my husband really enjoyed the excursion with Will. He was ready to answer all our questions and we learned a lot about Geisha culture. Will showed us all the main places of interest in Kyoto, taught us how to pray and we even got small gifts from him at the end of excursion which was very sweet of him. Highly recommend this experience with Will!

The tour was fun and informative! The guide, Raj, spent time explaining and answering questions along the way. Raj was energetic and it’s clear that she loves her job of guiding tourists through Gion Geiko district and the areas shrine and temples. I learned a lot and I highly recommend this tour with Raj!

Great tour. Yuma was very knowledgeable about the Gion district, geiko culture as well as Buddhism and Shinto practices. Exploring the area at night was amazing. Seeing the temples and shrines lit up was beautiful.

Dalil was a fantastic guide for our first night in Kyoto! He was so knowledgeable about everything and clearly wanted us to love Kyoto as much as he does. He took time to explain in detail each stop of the tour, took answered every question, and acted as our photographer at some points. Raj our guide was knowledgeable. The tour was some what interesting. The tour spent to little time on the temples. The lights go out at 9pm at the temples so I don’t understand why the tour starts at 8.30 . By the time we got there there wasn’t much to see. Tour not really worth it . Better to do it yourself.

I really loved this night walk with Yota. The city completely transforms at night and he took us to places I would never have thought of going in the evening, it was honestly magical. Yota is a great guide, full of local knowledge and patient in explaining things like deity and prayer rituals. It was a lot of fun but also so informative. I’d do it again.

We loved the tour. We walked in the same area earlier during the day and while beautiful, it was pretty packed and we couldn't really enjoy it. At night it was a completely different atmosphere! Hina was super nice and explained many interesting things especially about Geisha culture. Recommended!
The tour was good. Our guide skipped by a lot of sights though. She would say oh we skipped because it was too busy but other nights I saw guides stop there. Maybe she was in a hurry? She took time to tell the story of her great grandmother who was a geisha.
