Itinerary
Discover the vibrant heart of Kyoto at Yasaka Shrine, a centuries-old Shinto sanctuary nestled between Gion and Higashiyama. Famous for its striking vermilion gate and lantern-lit paths, this spiritual site blends tradition, beauty, and local life. It’s also the birthplace of the legendary Gion Matsuri festival. A must-see spot to soak in Kyoto’s cultural and spiritual charm.
Step into serenity at Maruyama Park, Kyoto’s oldest public park, known for its seasonal beauty and iconic weeping cherry trees. A tranquil oasis nestled near Yasaka Shrine, it’s the perfect spot to soak in Kyoto’s natural charm, whether during cherry blossom season or while strolling under the shade of centuries-old trees.
Wander down Nene no Michi, a picturesque lane named after the beloved wife of samurai warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This elegant street is lined with preserved traditional architecture, quaint shops, and teahouses, capturing the timeless beauty of Kyoto’s historic Higashiyama district.
Experience the magic of old Kyoto as you descend the charming Ninenzaka path. With its stone-paved walkway, historic wooden buildings, and artisan boutiques, this scenic slope feels like stepping back in time—a must-see for photographers and culture lovers alike.
A hidden gem in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district, this shrine is famous for its “Power Stone” archway. Locals and visitors crawl through it to pray for strong relationships—or to break ties with the past. Peaceful and unique, it’s a memorable stop full of local tradition and symbolism.
Step into the timeless elegance of Hanamikoji Street, the heart of Kyoto’s famous Gion district. Lined with preserved wooden machiya townhouses, exclusive teahouses, and softly glowing lanterns, this historic street captures the essence of traditional Japan. As we stroll along, you might spot a graceful maiko or geiko heading to an evening engagement.

We did the Gion and Geisha District walking tour with Nay and really enjoyed it. He took us to some great spots around Gion we never would have found on our own, and his history and explanations were fantastic. We learned so much about the area and the geisha culture. A great way to spend a couple of hours in Kyoto. Highly recommend, and ask for Nay!
Finding out a lot about the Geisha district and viewing sites not normally visited. Very informative tour.
Malu was an AMAZING - I love asking tons of questions and learning about history, and she was able to answer every single question I had about Japanese culture and history. She was so clear and enthusiastic, this was one of the best tours of my life!
A wonderful experience with a very good value for money! Our guide Pedro was very nice, friendly, kind and gave us many information. He also encouraged questions and answered all of them. The tour lasted 2 hours and covered a big part of the district and many sights. I highly recommend this walking tour with Pedro!
Pedro was an amazing guide and kind guide!!! He shared useful information and interesting stories! It was a pleasant activity that I would do it again. The selected tour included many places that we would like to visit. Two full hours and we learned a lot!
Malu was the best Tiurguide I’ve ever seen. Highly recommend to do it with her.
The overall tour was amazing, Pedro was great at explaining and answering all questions. He even engaged in small talk and found a way to bring all the guests on the tour in on the experience. The tour was amazing overall, saw one Geisha and that was awesome.
Pedro was very knowledgable and gave very good, in depth explainations.
Amazing, Pedro - the best guide!

A really helpful introduction to the world of the geisha plus an overview of Japanese religions . Peter was an excellent knowledgable guide.)
Such a good tour, went places we would never of found and because it was at night it was quiet and lit up! Darren our tour guide was really professional and knowledgeable!
Hiroshi was an amazing tour guide, would recommend great value for money also
The tour talks about a lot more than the geisha experience. Maybe spell that out more clearly, but Otherwise, Pedro was very knowledgeable and did a great job.
Incredible night tour of Gion with Angelia, she was very knowledgeable and gave interesting facts and history of the area Highly recommend for a tour in Kyoto!
I was extrememly disappointed with this walking tour. The time was changed until 7pm- 9pm and was dark. Just as well we had a torch or others had a torch on their phones. The tour lass had someone else with her and she spent most of the time talking to her. She would start talking about areas before the whole group had gathered to hear what she was saying. Not worth the money. It ended completely away from the starting point, hence we needed to catch a taxi back to our hotel. I would not recommend this tour. Brenda
It was perfect. Hiroshi was our guide - and he were perfect! Very nice and have a lot of knowleg. Tnx!
Great tour. Nay cracking job. Informative from start to finish.

Hiroshi was an amazing guide! Knowledgeable, easy to talk to and engaging!
Lydia was our host, and full of interesting information--even things that I never thought to ask. Experiencing Kyoto at night had unique and beautiful advantages. Lydia told us of the traditions in various shrines and temples, including the importance of the icons at the entrances. Learning about the geisha culture was enlightening. Also, we were able to avoid the daytime crowds.
Haroshi Nagasaki was an amazing guide. Knowledgeable and polite. Thank you
It is a beautiful night walk past temples, parks, pagodas, great views, and the guests district. William, our guide, shared many facts about each area and it’s importance to the Japanese community.
Lidya was very informative and made the walk a very enjoyable experience.
We really enjoyed this tour and are so glad we booked.
