Please note that this group tour requires a minimum of 4 participants. If the number stays below 4 close to the tour date, it may not proceed. Also, depending on the availability of Geiko and Maiko, we may not be able to arrange their attendance. If so, we will notify you in advance.

Stop At: Gion Shirakawa Gion Shirakawa is a picturesque district in Kyoto, Japan, known for its traditional charm and scenic beauty. It is centered around the Shirakawa Canal, which is lined with willow trees, traditional wooden machiya houses, and elegant tea houses. This area is part of the larger Gion district, famous for its historical association with geisha culture. The cobblestone streets and preserved architecture offer a glimpse into Kyoto's past, attracting both tourists and locals. Gion Shirakawa is especially enchanting during cherry blossom season, when the canal is adorned with pink blooms, creating a romantic and serene atmosphere that epitomizes the essence of Kyoto.

About Hanamikoji- Hanamikoji Street is a famous and historic street located in the Gion district of Kyoto, Japan. Renowned for its traditional atmosphere, it stretches from Sanjo-dori to Kenninji Temple. This iconic street is lined with preserved wooden machiya houses, some of which function as exclusive teahouses and high-end restaurants. Visitors often come to Hanamikoji to experience the quintessential Kyoto ambiance, where geisha and maiko (apprentice geisha) can occasionally be seen walking to their appointments in the evening. The street is particularly captivating at night when lanterns illuminate the buildings, creating a nostalgic and enchanting scene that reflects the cultural heritage of Kyoto.

We had a great time on this tour. After you meet up with your guide, you get a 1-hour tour around the geiko/geisha district of Kyoto (called Gion), then a 1-hour sit down in a tea house with a maiko (a geiko-in-training), during which you may ask her questions as a group. Then you finish with playing a game with her.
Our tour guide, Kosuke, was very informative and answered our questions as well. Our maiko, Fukuhisa, was so wonderful and answered our questions beautifully. I would highly recommend this tour if you are interested in learning more about geiko/geisha/maiko culture while visiting its birthplace in Kyoto!

Great experience and highly recommend. Our guide, Kosuke, was very informative and fun. We learned several things about temples and shrines that informed the rest of our travels in Japan and made it a great experience. We also got a great tour and walk around Gion. The Maiko was very gracious with her time and answered many of our questions.

Did an hour walk through the Geisha quarters in Kyoto.
Meet with a very cute Meiko for one hour. She was very engaging and her dance performance with fan was beautiful. She also played a gane with each of us and sang while we’re playing. Highly recommend this tour.

This was a lovely experience with our guide Andi! She gave us a walking tour through the geiko areas of Kyoto and we had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant. The food was excellent, and Andi had very thorough historical knowledge and explained in detail everything we were seeing and experiencing along the way. Our maiko— Toshikyo— was lovely and engaging, doing 2 traditional dances and teaching us a drinking game. Excellent, authentic experience— a gorgeous glimpse into old Kyoto for our first night here
