Starting early was the best decision, allowing us to explore Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkaku-ji before the heavy crowds arrived. Our guide, Kona, was absolutely wonderful—exceptionally kind, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the entire morning. Kona made the history come alive and took wonderful care of everyone. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kyoto!

Itinerary
We begin our journey at Fushimi Inari Shrine. While most tourists arrive much later, we will walk through the magical Senbon Torii (thousands of vermilion gates) in the serene morning air. Your expert local guide will share the fascinating Shinto folklore and secrets of the fox messengers before the heavy crowds arrive, making for a truly peaceful and photogenic experience.
Next, we move to Nijo Castle, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site. We aim to arrive right as the gates open, allowing us to explore the historic Shogun's palace and its famous "nightingale floors" in complete peace. Stroll through the beautiful traditional Japanese gardens while learning about Japan's dramatic samurai history from your guide.
We conclude our tour at the stunning Kinkaku-ji, famously known as the Golden Pavilion. Seeing the gold leaf reflect perfectly on the mirror-like pond in the crisp morning light is a breathtaking sight. Your guide will share the deep Zen history and architectural secrets behind this iconic masterpiece, ensuring an unforgettable end to your morning.

The tour description was misleading. Based on how it was written, we thought that there would be a shuttle or car that drove us to the different tour sites. But instead it was actually just taking public transportation to each site. We could have navigated the public transportation ourselves - we wouldn't have booked this had we understood the cost didn't cover transportation. The tour description also listed the admission expenses as "free" under each site. On the tour we learned that we were actually responsible for paying the admission fees. Our tour guide honored the description and covered our admission cost to the ticketed sites (We really hope that he was properly reimbursed by the tour company!). Our tour guide was very kind and helpful. We enjoyed getting to know him. Overall, though, we felt that this tour was not worth the price.
Great tour with Takeshi! Thank you to Takeshi for his flexibility in changing the destinations of our tour when we realized we were seeing several sites again, and for an incredible sightseeing day full of history and art! Beautiful day in Kyoto, all around.
This tour was a great way to see some of Kyoto’s most famous places without dealing with the usual crowds. Starting early made a huge difference, especially at Fushimi Inari, where we could really enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and walk through the torii gates without feeling rushed. Since it was a private tour, we could explore everything at a comfortable pace. Our guide was very friendly and explained the history and stories behind Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkaku-ji in a way that was easy to understand. I especially enjoyed Nijo Castle and learning about the nightingale floors, which I probably would have missed if I had visited by myself. We were able to see three major sights in just half a day, but the tour never felt rushed. I would definitely recommend this tour if you want to experience Kyoto more peacefully and efficiently.
This tour was perfect for us, as we didn't have much time to spend in the city. We managed to visit three amazing spots in just one morning, yet the pace felt surprisingly relaxed and enjoyable. My absolute favorite was Fushimi Inari; walking through the torii gates was a truly magical experience. Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji were wonderful, too! Our guide was fantastic—friendly, easy to talk to, and full of interesting facts about Kyoto. It was a great tour. I highly recommend it!
If you enjoy taking photos while traveling, I think it's definitely worth getting up early. My favorite was Fushimi Inari Shrine. I had wanted to visit it ever since I saw it in a movie, so I was thrilled to be able to take a photo with my friend there!
I've already seen many temples and shrines on my trips around Japan, but this tour was a slightly different experience! The guide not only showed us the tourist spots, but also taught us the history and stories behind each place! We learned about history, but it wasn't stiff or formal, and it was a relaxing and enjoyable tour.
Maki was an amazing tour guide! Having a local guide made such a huge difference and made my trip to Japan much more enjoyable and memorable. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful time on this tour. The itinerary was excellent, and visiting Fushimi Inari early in the morning was definitely a highlight. It was much quieter and more enjoyable without the crowds. The Golden Pavilion and Nijo Castle were also beautiful, and we really enjoyed learning about the history and culture of Kyoto along the way. Everything was well organized from start to finish. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see some of Kyoto’s most famous sights in a short amount of time!
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto. Everything was very well organized, and visiting Fushimi Inari early in the morning was definitely the right choice. Being there before the crowds arrived made the experience so much more enjoyable and peaceful. The Golden Pavilion and Nijo Castle were also fantastic, and the whole itinerary was very well balanced. We never felt rushed, but we were able to see so many beautiful and historic places in one morning. Our guide was excellent — friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful throughout the tour. They explained the history and culture in a way that was easy to understand and made the experience much more interesting. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kyoto, especially if it’s your first time. Great organization, great itinerary, and an unforgettable experience!
I hesitated at the 6am meeting time, but it made the whole tour. We reached Fushimi Inari Shrine before the crowds arrived, so we had long stretches of the thousand torii gates almost to ourselves — great for photos and for actually taking in the atmosphere. Our guide explained the history behind the torii donations and Inari worship, which added a lot of context beyond just walking through. Nijo Castle came next, and we got a proper explanation of the ornate sliding-door paintings in the Ninomaru Palace and the "nightingale floors" designed to warn of intruders. Being there ahead of the bigger tour groups meant we could actually linger and look closely instead of shuffling through. We finished at Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) right as the morning light hit the reflecting pond — the kind of shot you just don't get later in the day once the crowds show up. Transitions between the three sites were smooth with almost no downtime, so we covered a lot in half a day without feeling rushed. Wear comfortable shoes; there's a fair amount of walking. If you're worried about Kyoto's famous crowds ruining your photos or your experience, this early-bird format solves that problem completely.
I highly recommend this tour! Miki, the guide, was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and shared so much information about Kyoto. I’ll definitely book a tour with them again next time I visit!
I want to pat myself on the back for making the best decision to join this tour. Above all, the guide, Miki, was fantastic. She was kind and funny. Thanks to her, I’ve come to love Kyoto even more.
It was my first time visiting Kyoto, and this tour turned out to be a truly wonderful and memorable highlight of the trip! Since the tour started early in the morning, we were able to enjoy Kyoto's famous sites at a leisurely pace before the crowds arrived. Our guide was incredibly hospitable and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to ensure the four of us had a great time and even pointed out the best spots for photos! The tour schedule was perfectly planned, allowing us to visit Kyoto's major attractions efficiently. Thank you for the wonderful memories!
Starting early in the morning allowed us to leisurely enjoy Kyoto's famous sightseeing spots while there were few crowds—it was a wonderful experience. The "Senbon Torii" (thousands of vermilion gates) at Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine were truly breathtaking. Walking through that tunnel of red gates in the quiet morning air created a memory I will cherish forever. Our guide was incredibly kind and gave us clear, engaging explanations about Japanese history and culture. They also helped us take photos, allowing us to capture plenty of wonderful memories from our trip together.
My trip to Kyoto with my friend was the best memory! We came to Japan from America and visited Kyoto together as a pair. This tour was a particularly memorable and wonderful experience of our trip.
I am so glad I joined this tour! It feels like I received the intangible gift of a journey. I want to express my gratitude once again to Hanako, our guide! Thank you!!
This tour was definitely worth taking. My guide, Jun, was incredibly knowledgeable and a Kyoto expert! I got to hear local information that you can only learn here, and I was very satisfied!
I joined this tour because I love Kyoto's streets and history, and our guide, Emi, was incredibly knowledgeable. It exceeded my expectations; I highly recommend this tour.
