Discover the depth of Japanese ume culture through a hands-on workshop presented by CHOYA, the world’s No.1 umeshu producer. During the experience, you’ll sample a variety of ume syrups and select from over 100 possible combinations to handcraft your own umeshu (Japanese plum liqueur) or non-alcoholic ume syrup. Your finished bottle becomes a unique, take-home souvenir of Kyoto. The workshop is conducted in English for international visitors, with Chinese and Japanese guidebooks also available to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participants. Guests aged 19 and under are welcome to join by making ume syrup.
our host was very informative and thorough in taking us through the history and culture of Choya Ume. the course was an hour long and got to choose our fruit, sugars and liquor.

Our guide was wonderful conducting the experience in japanese and English flawlessly and going the extra step to take cute photos for all! Would recommend!

Had an incredible time, the staff leading the experience was very friendly and helpful. She ensured we got the best experience and the best product for our efforts in making the umeshu. She made sure we knew what exactly we were choosing when selecting our options. Would come again if we felt like more umeshu.

This was a great experience! The workshop is good value for money. We were there for the best part of 45 minutes, and we were the only people booked for that time slot, so it felt like a nice personal experience. The staff were all lovely, and the vibes were very welcoming. It was interesting to learn about the process of making plum wine and we got to see different bottles at different stages of development which was fascinating. We made 3 bottles in the end and also had some of the ume soda, which was delicious!

I had the most incredible time with Hiram learning to make ume syrup. It was a fully immersive experience and a delight to try all the different varieties of ume and styles of sugar to make both syrup and liquor! I would recommend anyone come if they are in Kyoto. It is the best souvenir!

This was fun, and easy to follow along. They have a translator so all can follow along. They are thorough in their instruction and it is the ultimate keep sake. Haylei was a wonderful host. Highly recommend!

I heard about this from a friend who knows I love umeshu. It was super convenient to book on klook and I had many slots to choose from. The place is pretty and comfortable, and the staff really helpful ~ I also like that you can add an extra bottle on the day if you feel like it. I would come back if I can !
