They did a lovely job! They dressed us with care and took photographs for us. The tea ceremony was beautifully explained and was a lovely experience. They provided substantial snacks and tea with sweets. They gifted us with tabi socks, an origami flower, and hair stick. They were very kind to us and particularly my 9 year old son that started to not feel well during the tea ceremony. They were very sweet with him. The only thing to be aware of, this experience was an approximate 20-30min taxi ride from the downtown/gion district. However, it is near interesting locations that you could include if you time well (e.g., bamboo forest, kimono forest, many temples and shrines).

Wearing the kimono and having the tea ceremony were a great experience. The tea teacher was excellent and so was her interpreter. We learned lots of knowledge and everyone was so kind. They even gave my wife and I a small gift for our honeymoon!
Brilliant afternoon and great experience. Able to choose kimonos which added to experience. Tea ceremony and able to make matcha as well, Would highly recommend recommend
We would highly recommend this very authentic experience. Our tea master was so knowledgeable and willing to share information about the ceremony and her culture. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this tea house.
This tea ceremony is an absolute must-do in Kyoto! It started for us at 10:30 am and ended at 12:30 pm. First we were greeted by the friendly staff in a traditional Japanese house, which was so cool to be in. Then we got changed into our kimonos, did our photoshoots, and then did the actual tea ceremony. The tea ceremony was fantastic and we learned so much about the history behind it. Altogether, the experience was lovely and we’re glad we got to do this. A big thank you to the tea master and all the staff who guided us through the entire experience! Yet another unforgettable experience in Kyoto. We loved it!
This was one of the best experiences of our whole trip. It was beautiful and educational and elegant. Our tea master was so kind and gentle. Plus they dressed us so beautifully and all the staff were warm and sweet.
The whole experience is amazing. The quality and choices of kimono are impressive. The tea master is passionate and knowledgeable. Group size is a little big. It would have been nicer to have a smaller group with a more intimate experience. I would highly recommend this tea ceremony place.
A very special experience, very friendly and informative staff. Got to pick your own kimonos and was helped dressed by the lovely staff, hair was done with accessories. Staff helped direct photo shoot and the tea ceremony with the tea master was very special.
Very informative, very fun ceremony. Great opportunity to take pictures in kimono. The hosts were get knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend for anyone wanting to learn about Japanese history and culture.
What an incredible experience! This was a highlight of our trip to Japan. The staff were experts at dressing kimono and it was amazing to watch ourselves transform with each layer and accessory. They made us feel and look beautiful. After a fun photo shoot, we entered the tea room and a gentleman translated the tea master as she performed the ceremony, explained the history and reasons for why she did things, and helped us complete our own ceremony. We learned what and how to say in Japanese during the ceremony and when drinking tea. It was truly “ichi go ichi a” - one life, one meeting that will never happen again. I cannot recommend this enough!
This was a great experience! I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony! Thank you for the experience.
Excellent experience. The hosts were very friendly and explained the history and the ceremony very well.
Absolutely amazing experience! Every single staff member was so sweet and taught us so much about the tea ceremony while also making us feel like family. They helped us pick out kimonos and also did our hair, took many pictures for us as well. And the match was delicious!! Loved every part of this!
This is a must do cultural experience when in Kyoto. We learned so much about the significance of the tea ceremony and how it has evolved over time. Wearing the traditional dress was also an enlightening experience.
What a wonderful cultural experience this was. A great experience if you’re in the area near the golden temple. Otherwise it’s a bit far away from everything in Kyoto. Our tea master and all of the helpers were so kind and welcoming and we really felt like part of Japan.
It was an unforgettable experience. I have been to other tea ceremonies bur the tea master and other staff made it very special.
This was a truly wonderful cultural experience!! One of the absolute highlights of our honeymoon. It was amazing seeing the tea master do her craft, and I have never felt so beautiful as I did in the kimono I wore. The staff were so kind and lovely, taught us so much, answered all of our questions, and made us feel so comfortable. Thank you, so so much!!
Loved, loved, loved! They meticulously dressed us (hair included) in traditional attire (kimonos). The tea house was gorgeous and just as I historically expected. We were taught by a real tea master in her traditional attire & were also allowed to practice the skills we learned. Everyone was extremely polite & accommodating as well. Overall amazing & highly recommend!
It was a wonderful experience! Mira walked through the process of the tea ceremony with su ch martial and precision. It was my favourite thing I did while visiting!
Very informative and friendly. Very open to answering any questions about the traditions of the tea service.
This was a great experience! I wish we had known the dishware would be not food safe and that we could have brought our own dishware. It cost a lot to use their dishware other then the small ones they provided for free.
A wonderful small group experience and was a lot of fun putting on a Komodo for the ceremony…
This was such an enjoyable experience. We were welcomed to a traditional Tea House where we were dressed with beautiful kimonos (you get to choose your pattern, design) and ladies had their hair prepared with a large selection of hair ornaments to choose. We were then shows how to properly make tea by a very kind and warm Tea master. Everyone was incredibly welcoming. Everyone should take the time to enjoy this event. Thank you
extremely kind service, beautiful kimonos, awesome learning about the culture of the tea ceremony. i would really recommend
Here you learn about the traditional tea ceremony and etiquette. There is meaning and purpose to the tea ceremony. Very beautiful
It was a great experience! Fun to dress up in a traditional kimono. And was greatly informative on the traditional tea ceremony. Great participation. So much fun and great photo opportunity’s.
Excellent experience for someone new to Japan who wants to understand the history of tea culture especially in Kyoto
Great experience! The family that hosted the tea ceremony had a wealth of knowledge. They were also extremely kind and answered any questions we had about the ceremony. I have admit as a 5’10 woman I was worried about kimono options but they were very inclusive and had plenty. Also, the team did a great job styling my braids.
Beautiful tradition. Having tea with our tea master was one of our Kyoto highlights. Getting dressed in the kimono is a wonderfully orchestrated process. You pick the color of your kimono and then your lovely team take it from there. Within minutes you are looking stunning in hour kimono. It’s a feeling you should really experience. Lots of photo opportunities. Tea service is rich in tradition. Highly recommend.
A definite highlight of the trip. What an amazing experience! Our hostess was knowledgeable and very personable.
Amazing experience. A traditional tea Ceremony with a tea Master, then taught me, guided me making tea for my Husband. Such a great Honor.
Great energy from the host! Very interactive experience and beautiful kimono choices. Lots of photos.
Fantastic tea service! Learned a lot about a historic tea service. Wonderful experience trying on kimonos.
We had an amazing experience, they were so nice and made the experience unforgettable. My young nephew was crying and they were so patient and understanding. Highly recommended
It was a wonderful experience for our family with a 1 year old they were great with the baby. The Kimino was a perfect touch and they did our hair just right
This was such a memorable experience and something I’d do again next time I’m in Japan. I did it alone and they made me feel very comfortable and included.
Fantastic tea ceremony, kind and welcoming people, traditional clean tea house, kimonos were beautiful with an excellent choice of sizing. Informative, English speaking guide present. Not rushed or hurried. Truly one of the best experiences of our entire trip to Japan, a forever memory
Beautiful experience! Very informative and fun. We learned so much and enjoyed the ceremony, pictures, learning about Japanese culture, and having the opportunity to ask questions. Highly recommend booking a tea ceremony here.
Here’s a polished review version: We did this ceremony, and what an amazing experience it was. Being part of a tradition that has been practiced for hundreds of years, guided by the tea master, was truly special. The kimonos, the beautiful photos we received, and the incredible warmth and hospitality of the hosts made the experience unforgettable. We will definitely do this again when we visit Japan. We highly recommend it to everyone — it is an absolute must-do activity and one of the highlights of our trip.
Very friendly. Very experienced.
Amazing experience and they had beautiful kimonos to choose from. The tea master/host did a very nice job in explaining the process. It was fun and educational.
Highly recommend when in Kyoto! We had an amazing experience and mind you, I’m traveling with a 21yo son and an 18yo daughter- they too had a blast. The Caren team were so warm, welcoming and caring. From the dressing, to the hair, to the taking of photos, to the actual tea ceremony. Beginning to end was superb!
My daughter said that they treated her like their granddaughter and she had an amazing experience!!!
So glad we did this. This could have been very touristy, but it felt very authentic to me. They dressed us in kimono (we got to select the pattern), and did the women's hair. Then we took pictures in a small garden while the other couple in the group got ready. Next, we observed a shortened tea ceremony with a tea master. They took us through each part, we got to ask questions and then try it ourselves. It was a very special experience and I'm so glad we did this!
There were 11 of us and had so much fun learning about the tradition of the tea ceremony. The woman who dressed us were experts and it added to the experience. Highly recommend this tour!
This was a great experience to learn about Japanese tea culture. The hosts were great and very informative. They give information about traditional tea ceremonies and where they divert from tradition to make it more interactive for us. We wear Kimonos including our little one. At the end of the ceremony one person from each group make matcha tea.
This was a good tea experience if a little chaotic. They were in the process of moving to a new space but didn’t tell anyone in advance. I’m sure all of that is worked out now so no need to go into details. The ceremony itself was incredible and very meaningful. My one piece of feedback is to source more variety of kimonos in larger sizes to be more inclusive.
It was a fun and interesting experience. Everyone was friendly and explained each step of the tea ceremony very well. They not only put the kimono on you but they fixed up the women's hair. We looked very nice. We also got to do the ceremony ourselves and serve tea to our companions.
Our family of 5 had a wonderful time dressing up in traditional clothing and taking part in the tea ceremony with a tea master. Everything was timed perfectly and handled well, from selecting our kimonos and accessories to making tea. The women in our group were amazed at how quickly and expertly they were dressed and had their hair styled by the staff. We were given ample time in several locations to take numerous photos. We would not only recommend others do this, but we would love to come back the next time we’re in Kyoto!
Educational ceremony with wonderful hosts! Plus a photoshoot. Would highly recommend booking this activity when visiting Kyoto.
