The tea ceremony was very interesting, and in addition to the ceremony itself, the guide explained the layout and functions of the house and its various areas and encouraged us to participate. He answered our questions and explained each step. Since it was a small group, he was able to give each of us individual attention, which was very pleasant.

The tea ceremony was great. The tea master explained every step very throughly and all the staff was very kind to explain all the steps in English for those who are not familiar with japanese.
I attended the japanese tea ceremony at this place. The event was very well organised. The instructions were in Japanese. But even as a non japanese speaker, it was easy for me to follow. The ceremony was very authentic, and I really enjoyed attending this. I appreciate the organizers.
Thank you for such a wonderful tea ceremony experience. Iโm grateful for this special experience.๐ต๐ฉท
My husband and I had a very nice experience. We ended up having a private experience since no one else signed up for our time slot. The tea master and host were kind, informative and professional and we learned about the rituals of tea making in an old home with a beautiful courtyard garden. They gave us sweets and we each got the chance to make our own matcha tea. Needless to say, I need many more lessons!!
A very zen like experience with knowledgeable tea master and host. Very friendly and was a perfect part of our Kyoto experience.
amazing experience and service, 100% recommended, very nice.
A wonderful relaxing experience that was knowledgeable and enjoyable!
We had a wonderful experience in a 150 machiaya house which is pretty cool to be in a part of such a historic place. Kumi was informative and cute, we got to experience our own experience in making the tea ceremony, a lot harder than the master makes it look !!
The tea ceremony experience was excellent. We did not have to sit on the floor (which is traditional, but this procedure is for guests). The procedure was explained by our host and the tea-lady and we could make tea ourselves. The wagashi (sweets) was so beautiful and delicious. Only 4 people in our group, so very exclusive and lots of time time to ask questions. Itโs an original merchants house, full of history.
Our Tea Ceremony experience was in and area more off the beaten path. As a result it was delightfully peaceful and in a beautiful setting. We ended up with a private tour. The experience very traditional and without gimmicks. Our hostess was well informed and the tea master very accomplished.
The tea ceremony was a great experience. It also added to the learning experience for us while in Japan. If you like Matcha, this is a must do.
Wonderful experience and a lovely insight into the amazing Japanese culture. I loved the ceremony and got to wear a beautiful kimono with the option of wearing it for the rest of the afternoon if I wished. I highly recommend this experience. The ladies were all so friendly, warm and very helpful. I had a fantastic time.
Lovely experience, we learned a lot about the ceremony and Japanese customs. The house is beautiful and everyone was very kind. Arigatou gozaimasu!
Thank you so much to the tea master and Yuki-san for giving me such a wonderful opportunity to experience a traditional tea ceremony. Everything was absolutely beautiful! Every movement of the tea master was precise, harmonious, and graceful. The beauty and atmosphere of the tea room were simply mesmerizing. It was such a peaceful and unforgettable experience. I am truly grateful for this wonderful opportunity!
The tea ceremony experience with Juraku was very pleasant. The sweet and matcha were delicious and the traditional Japanese house where the experience took place was amazing. The English explanation was limited but people who can't speak Japanese can still enjoy this experience.
I really enjoyed this experience. I really liked the traditional machiya because it was beautiful and had a very traditional Kyoto atmosphere. I also enjoyed watching the tea preparation. It was very calm and relaxing. The seasonal sweet was also very beautiful and tasted really good with the matcha. My favorite part was making my own matcha. It was my first time, so it was a little difficult, but it was really interesting and fun. Overall, I learned more about Japanese tea culture and had a really nice time.
It was a great experience! The tea master is wonderful and you get to taste a matcha of the highest quality. You can also try wagashi which was delicious. But most importantly, you learn the basics of tea ceremony and Japanese good manners in a short time and in a great environment. Yuki also speaks English so she can help translate if you have any questions!
I had a wonderful experience at Juraku! The staff was very kind, and the tea ceremony was easy to follow along with. The tea master took her time to answer all of the questions I had; the assistant knew English so it was easy to get my messages across. I'd highly recommend trying Juraku out! They were extremely personable and highly conscious of individuals needs. Also, the treat they served before serving the tea was delicious :)
Juraku's tea ceremony was an amazing experience from start to finish. The instructors were kind and knowledgeable, the atmosphere was peaceful, and I gained a much deeper appreciation for Japanese tea culture. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.
I had a really lovely experience at the tea ceremony. Everything was very well explained and the tea and sweet were delicious. I would definitely come again.
Although I knew nothing about the tea ceremony before joining, the teacher explained everything very kindly and patiently. I was able to enjoy the beauty of the season, and it was a truly wonderful experience. It reminded me to cherish each and every moment in life.
Very amazing ceremony, with the tea master and also you could make the matcha yourself! Also very nice location and it is very relaxing being there!
Wonderful experience; traditional ceremony with a very mindful tea master and beautiful story telling.
It was a really nice tea ceremonie. We learned a lot. They gave good explanation about the house and about the tea and about the making of the tea. It was really good matcha.
My mom and I do the tea ceremony here. It was a great intimate experience. A great experience for us to do.
It was really nice experience, culturally and historically I have learned a lot. It was so nice to practice all the steps of the tea making, drinking and grinding
Amazing authentic experience! Very impressive and interesting, we had a lot of fun, highly recommended!
Definitely, this experience grants you a deeper understanding of such a refined culture with precise handling of a tea ceremony.
The Tea Ceremony was superb ! Asano and Yuki were the perfect hosts. I really wanted an authentic experience, and this was exactly what I got from this time. Asano is a Tea Master so therefore, who better to watch perform this elegant ceremony! Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this very special event. Kim
I had such an unforgettable moment over there. Not only enjoying tea but also being able to understand the culture is very important for us to join the experience. Also they had a good collections for unique souvenirs to take back home!
Absolutely wonderful experience that I encourage everyone to have. The ceremony is performed by an expert inside a machiya of cultural and historical value. Despite being in the midst of Kyoto the surroundings are calm and peaceful, further contributing to the intimate setting of a small-group experience. Would rate 6 stars if I could! I highly recommend to everyone not to miss out on this opportunity and to book directly with JURAKU through their site and support a local business. If I am back in Kyoto I will definitely return!
If youโre considering a tea ceremony in Kyoto, go ahead and book this experience. From start to finish, each step of the tea ceremony has so much intention, tradition, and thought behind it and our hosts were great in teaching us. This experience really makes you slow down and relax to value the small moments. The ceremony is held in a machiya, a beautiful 150 year old wooden Japanese home, where generations of a family sold their intricately designed silks. We had a delicious Japanese sweet before the tea and learned to use all five senses when eating it. Our instructors made it very easy for us to learn and follow along with each step of the ceremony making matcha, and the tea was the best weโve had of the trip so far. Even my partner, who doesnโt like matcha, enjoyed the tea and said they really liked the whole experience! If youโre considering this, go ahead and book it!
Watching a true tea master is mesmerizing! Itโs great to have a small go at hosting, because then you really appreciate the skill of the master. Itโs a beautiful zen experience.
I had such a wonderful experience at this Sakura Tea Ceremony in Kyoto. From the moment we arrived, the hosts made us feel incredibly welcome โ they were so warm, kind, and genuinely passionate about what they do. The setting in the traditional machiya house was absolutely beautiful and added an authentic, peaceful atmosphere to the entire experience. We learned so much about the history, rituals, and meaning behind the Japanese tea ceremony, and everything was explained in a very engaging and easy-to-understand way. The hands-on part made it even more special, as we got to try preparing the tea ourselves. It felt both calming and meaningful โ a truly unique cultural experience. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Kyoto who wants something authentic, intimate, and memorable. A big thank you to the lovely hosts for making it so special!
I had a tea ceremony experience in a quiet machiya house in Nishijin. It didnโt feel like a place made for touristsโthe house still preserves the atmosphere of everyday life in Kyoto, and from the moment I stepped inside I felt a sense of calm. First, the tea master demonstrated the ceremony with beautiful and graceful movements. After that, we had the chance to prepare the tea ourselves. I was a little nervous and not very skillful, but as I focused on making a single bowl of tea, I gradually forgot everything else around me. Through this experience, I also gained a deeper understanding of the connection between Zen and tea, and the spirit of Japanese hospitality, omotenashi. In the peaceful machiya setting, with the teacherโs gentle guidance, I found myself relaxing and letting go of the usual distractions of daily life. It was a memorable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a quiet and authentic cultural moment in Kyoto.
Such a wonderful tea ceremony experience at Juraku. Asano-sensei was gentle and patient, and the 150-year-old machiya made everything feel very authentic. The staff were also incredibly friendly. A truly memorable experience in Kyoto.
A hidden gem in a 150-year-old machiya. The historic setting feels very peaceful and ceremonial, offering a quiet escape from the noise. The tea master was incredibly professional, and their meticulous technique was a joy to watch. With the English translation provided, the entire experience was seamless. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a high-quality and authentic cultural encounter

Tea experience, first time! I learned a lot from the tea ceremony teacher. Not just knowledge of the tea ceremony, but also Japanese manners! The matcha has a mellow taste, it's not bitter at all!I grasped the essence of "Wa Kei Sei Jaku." Thank you
The store staff speaks English and is very polite. From the introduction before entering the tea room to enjoying the matcha with sweets in the tea room, you can learn some details about the Japanese tea ceremony; it's really great!
Fantastic ceremony, true Japanese experience, Not the usual Tourist thing. Beautiful Traditional Japanese House, place with an important history. Really to recommend. Very good Tea Master and also the Translator.
It was a very enjoyable experience. The tea teacher is kind and handsome. You can also make your own matcha. The Nishijin area of the neighborhood is also a quiet city. There are also Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and Kamishichiken sj, about 10 minutes on foot. Perfect for those who want to experience the cherry blossom season slowly.
