Itinerary
Start Kyoto Sake Brewery & Tasting Tour in Fushimi
Learn how to make Japanese Sake at Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum Okura Museum. There, you'll learn about the rich history of Gekkeikan and the brewing process of sake by observing sake exhibits.
Pass by Teradaya This is a famous tourist spot in Fushimi, Kyoto, where the hero of the end of the Edo period, Sakamoto Ryoma, was attacked and the “Teradaya Disturbance”, a famous tragic incident, took place. The site of his former residence is now home to a statue of Ryoma and a stone monument to the nine heroes of the Satsuma clan, and next door is the “Ryokan Teradaya” inn, a reconstruction of the original Teradaya inn from the time of the incident, making it a well-known place where you can experience the turmoil of Kyoto at the end of the Edo period. The surrounding Fushimi and Momoyama areas are famous for their sake, and are among the best places in Japan for enjoying sake. There are also many places where you can enjoy sake, such as the Gekkeikan Okura Memorial Hall, as well as shops in the area.
Learn about how to make Japanese Sake at Kappa Gallery The Kappa Museum is one of Japan's leading museums dedicated to the kappa, a creature that has long been popular with the Japanese. The museum displays a range of materials that explain the origins, history and folklore of the kappa in an easy-to-understand way. The Kizakura Memorial Hall also introduces the appeal of sake by displaying materials related to sake, including models showing the sake brewing process and tools used in the past.

Had a great afternoon learning the history of Sake and beating all getting the take 22 different types along with a bit of local cuisine. Rika knows her Sake and was a great tour guide 10/10 Ben & Stacey
Had an amazing educational and fun experience with our tour guide! I hope everyone gets to enjoy this sake experience at least once when visiting Kyoto! This was one of my highlights of my Japan trip! Me and my husband had so much fun and would love to do it again! Thank you so much for today!!
Mari was so wonderful. We absolutely loved her passion for Sake and she made us feel at home. She was an amazing tour leader. Can not recommend her enough!
Small group visits 1 brewery for tasting then walk and finish with tasting at a restaurant. We had 3 in our group with our wonderful guide Naomi. Naomi was warm and friendly and helped make this experience memorable. Highly recommend.
Had a great time, Matt explained a lot of the history of sake making and Kyoto. Would do again!
Matt was a great guide who ran a great tour. He was super knowledgeable about Sake and the history. Would highly recommend
Matt was so fun and personable. He was knowledgeable about the history and contemporary culture of sake in Japan. We met him right outside the train station and the whole tour felt effortless. We would highly recommend him!
Moon was very sweet and fun tour guide! Even though it was just my husband and I for the experience we had tons of fun learning about sake making in Japan.
A great side trip while in Kyoto. Excellent history of the area. Please note that it is 18 shots of sake. And you will have already had a few on the tour. The expectation is that you will eat a bunch of food while finishing the sake. So plan accordingly.
Jimmy is a great knowledgable guide, we had a great time and enjoyed the tour!
Matt was an amazing tour guide, extremely knowledgeable and super fun to hang out with!

The real experience is with Jimmy who made it really enjoyable. Don’t try too many samples at the brewery when you get to the sake cafe you have a lot to try and make sure you order some of the delicious food, the conversation and experience make it really memorable
An amazing and super fun sake tour! The atmosphere was great, we met wonderful people, and our guide was absolutely lovely—friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. It was a unique and memorable experience, and we highly recommend it!
Educational tour offering lots of Sake!
We had such an amazing time on our sake tour in Japan! 🍶🇯🇵 My sister and I had the best experience exploring the sake museums, learning about the history and process of sake-making, and, of course, tasting an incredible 22 different types of sake! Our guide was wonderful, and the entire experience was fun, informative, and such a memorable part of our trip. It was the perfect combination of Japanese culture, history, and tasting something new. My sister and I had so much fun together and would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan! ❤️🍶 Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
Such a lovely tour, my friend and I can highly recommend it! Yuki was excellent at explaining the history behind sake and she was such pleasant company. We had a lovely time, learned a lot, and got to see some parts of Kyoto we wouldn’t have seen otherwise! Thank you for the wonderful experience ❤️
We had an excellent sake tour in Kyoto with Jimmy, who was very friendly, knowledgeable and informative. There was a generous variety and plenty of sake to sample—highly recommended!
We had Matt as our guide and he was very relaxed, very helpful with our needs, and very knowledgeable regarding the process and background of sake making. For a first timer trying sake Matt had some fantastic recommendations.
Naomi was so lovely. Was a very enjoyable experience
Learned a lot about Sake. Knew barely anything before, now I know more about it than other drinks made where I’m from.
Matt did amazing definitely would recommend!
Yuki was awesome! She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I had an amazing time and highly recommended if you’re in a group or solo. She is also a great picture taker. Thank you!
Tiki was awesome! It was only my partner and I on the tour and she made the tour feel very informative but fun. Very genuine person and would definitely recommend her for any local tours.
Mari and Yuki were great guides, very knowledgeable for our questions, and didn’t hold back the great details! We enjoyed the experience from beginning to end!
We absolutely loved our sake tour! It was a blast, and a great way to learn about sake. I wish the company would have reached out to us closer to the time, though - the only communication we received from them was when we booked the tour six months earlier. I had to dig through some old emails to figure out where to meet. Our guide, Ayaka, was really fantastic - I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone. We tried so many different sakes that it was difficult to pick a favorite. Afterwards we went around to some other sake places in town, and we felt like pros!
Our guide, Reiko, was excellent! Knowledgeable, welcoming and fun. Perfect way to connect with sake & spend an afternoon experiencing Japanese culture!
We had a blast at the brewery!!
YUKI was a great guide for the Fushimi Sake District walking tour! The 3 hours flew by effortlessly and I learnt so much about the art of sake.
This was seriously so much fun! My guide, Mari, was the absolute best. She was super knowledgeable, funny, and passionate about sake. I was the only person in my group, so I got to ask a lot of questions and get to know her! I booked through Klook and it was completely worth it! The tour was 3 hours and I had 21 sakes. I really couldn’t finish all of them because there were very generous tastings. I would definitely recommend this for anyone, especially solo travelers
Mari was an excellent host. We visited two different breweries. She gave me the history of the first one and recommended several of the sakes from the tasting. We then ended up at a bar where I was able to try a flight of 18 different sakes from other breweries. Then ordered some food and had conversation with another American who was seated near us. At the end she recommended a great karaoke spot which I went to the next night. Would highly recommend for anyone who wants to experience different brands of sake
Thai was such a great activity! Got to try so many sakes, the group was lovely and our guide was fantastic! Definitely recommend!
Rika was our guide and she was fantastic! Easy to find at the meeting point, very knowledgeable and articulate, very personable - we felt like a personal friend was taking us on a tour and teaching us all about sake!! Very fun learning about the history of sake here in Kyoto, the main brewers, the brewing process, etc. The tastings themselves were a delight. Wide variety of sake to sample, with a nice option to have some food if one desires. At the conclusion of the tour Rika made it super easy to catch the correct train and head back to our hotel area. I highly recommend this tour and especially this guide!! Rika is the best!!
Such an informative, fun and interactive tour! We tried so many different types of sake, and learned what differentiates them and how they are made, as well as the history of sake-making in Kyoto. Genuinely such an afternoon well spent and with a very attentive, knowledgeable and entertaining guide!
Great experience with Yuka! Friendly, very informational and of course a great selection of sakes. Chatty and ensured everyone was having a good time
It was a great experience of sake tasting. With detailed description of sake producing and a lot of sake types to taste. Thanks our guide Jimmy for such a great experience!
Our guide, Chihiro, and this experience was amazing! We ended up having a private tour, which was incredible. Chihiro spoke great English and was a great time at the tasting. We were also VERY pleasantly surprised with the quality of food that we ordered alongside the tasting experience.
We had an incredible time with Ayu!! Her english was phenomenal, she was very kind, conversational and shared various japanese cultural insights throughout our tour. Our time with Ayu specifically was such a special experience we will treasure and probably one of the brightest highlights of our trip! Aside from our wonderful guide, the sake itself was also delicious! The museum was stunning and provided a great overview of the sake making process and history of Gekkeikan specifically. We bought several bottles at the store and are excited to bring them home and share with our family and friends. We highly recommend this experience to any sake lover visiting Japan!
Very good tour and amazing experience thanks to Reiko. She was very knowledgeable.
Lots of fun and we ended up having a private tour with Ayaka because no one else booked on for our timeslot. Highly recommend booking, Ayaka also walked us back to the train station we needed and took some amazing photots for us during the tour, thanks Ayaka!
Incredible time! Matt was so amazing, so knowledgeable and great with English speakers. Learned so much & had such fun conversations! We loved every second and would highly recommend:) thank you Matt for everything!
This sake tour was an absolute highlight of our trip. From start to finish, our tour guide Jimmy was warm, personable, and genuinely enthusiastic. He made us feel welcome while sharing fascinating stories about sake history and brewing techniques. His explanations were clear and engaging, and he happily answered every question with patience and knowledge. The tastings were thoughtfully paced and well curated, showcasing a great variety of styles so you can really appreciate the differences. A big plus, he offers several tour options beyond the sake tour. We learned about his Nara excursions and food-focused tours, which sound fantastic for anyone wanting to explore more of the region. If you want a fun, informative, and friendly experience with someone who clearly loves what he does, book this tour. You’ll leave with new knowledge, great memories, and probably a favorite bottle or two.
I loved it. I’d recommend ordering sushi at the end. 10/10b
Matt was so great! He explained everything and we learned so much. We made friends along the way. Great tour!!!!
Jimmy was fantastic - 18 shots of sake for the 18 breweries in Fushimi plus another 5 along the way. What’s not to like! Great tour and a great host. Thoroughly recommend.
Good time! Our tour guide, Chihiro was amazing and she really knew her sake history. She is also a great person to talk too!
