It was a very enjoyable experience!! We learned a lot about matcha, tea ceremonies and Japanese tradition. And the matcha was amazing. It was also tucked away in a popular spot but felt very calm and private.

We were really pleased that we booked the tea ceremony whilst in Kyoto. The building was so peaceful and the garden was beautiful. There was info about the history of the tea ceremony and then we all took part. I dont particularly like matcha tea, but it did not stop me enjoying the experience. It was serene and relaxing and a lovely way to spend an hour.
Beautiful location in the old town. The experience was lovely and educational, showcasing the difference between what match made by a master tastes like as well as giving us an opportunity to try our own. The group was reasonably sized.
Lovely friendly staff. Fabulous kimonos you can wear outside too. Lovely tea ceremony
What a great experience. Visually pleasing and authentic. It doesn’t feel like a touristy thing to do - it feels like respect for a the culture and educational about an incredible art form. Beautiful location! Very informative and just all around lovely with friendly knowledgeable guides.. Also- this unrushed 50 min long experience is great for a packed scheduled. The surrounding area can be very crowded so give yourself enough time to find the tea house so you can relax! I would recommend this to anyone. A+++
This experience was great! It was very cool to see and be apart of a traditional tea ceremony in a beautiful setting. We got to see the tea being made and also got to make some matcha ourselves. It was also the perfect amount of time. If you are interested in doing a tea ceremony, I recommend this one.
It was a very interesting session and the tea host conducted it so beautifully. The atmosphere was serene, and brought out the essence of the whole ceremony. Th whole process was very smooth
Wonderful tea ceremony. Worth the time. Beautiful location. Very informative but not over the top. Great tea!
We loved the experience. Very informative and in great surroundings. Our host and the tea master were lovely people to lead this.
Beautiful, calming tea ceremony off the busy streets. Our guide explained the history of the matcha tea ceremony before starting and gave us the opportunity to ask questions. The ceremony felt special, the setting is lovely and in fall you will have red maples as your backdrop.
The people who conducted the ceremony were Charming and very well prepared. The setting is beautiful. We felt that the experience was over priced and therefore not very good value for money. Others may of course disagree.
This was a quick experience, which was wonderful because it fit so easily into our plans for the afternoon. It’s a very special experience, in a small location that is beautiful and intimate. We especially loved the setting and the ceremony was everything we hoped it would be.
This was a lovely introduction to a tea ceremony, we did it the first afternoon we arrived into Kyoto and felt like it really set the tone for our time there. The host and tea master were so knowledgeable and pleasant it was a joy to learn about the ceremony from them and be able to ask questions at the end. Definitely worth adding to your itinerary for Kyoto !
This was a cool experience to learn a little about the cultural significance of the tea ceremony in Japan. You got to see a tea master make matcha and learn about the process behind drinking matcha in ceremony. The setting is beautiful and the class was informative.
Great experience, informative, wonderful setting.
The tea ceremony was an amazing experience. It felt very traditional and the tea master and host were very informative. They were also very helpful and patient with us when we were learning how to make and drink the tea. Plenty of photo opportunities. So much fun.
A beautiful moment of calm and grace amid the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. The gardens added an element of serenity.
Very nice, traditional and informative. The translator and tea master were excellent. If you have bad knees… you may need to adjust your position off and on but otherwise it’s doable.
The place was so beautiful, in peace, and the explanation to made the matcha tea was so clear and nice
This was an extremely informative tea ceremony set amidst a beautiful garden. We learned about the history, the technique and customs, and had an opportunity to ask questions of the tea master at the end.
Tucked into a quiet courtyard on a busy Kyoto street, is this perfect tea room. It can be a bit hard to find, so leave a bit of extra time. It is 100% worth the effort to find it. This was such a worthwhile experience, first our host gave us an introduction to the history of the tea cermony and explained what would happen. Then we participated in a tea ceremony and finally we made our our matcha tea. It's just an hour long, but it was the perfect length of time and perfect calm moment in the middle of a busy day!
We had a great time experiencing this ceremony. The guide was very informative and pleasant. The atmosphere was incredible and the tea was good. Highly recommend!
Beautiful tea house and hosts, with a lovely tea master. Get your kimono rental in the local boutiques and attend in full garb. You can take photos but no videos, respect the space!
This was such a lovely experience full of great cultural information. I’d highly recommend finding the time to add this to your itinerary. Fun ritual and tasty matcha!
Such a beautiful ceremony. Incredible views and some delicious matcha too!
Never met a nicer guide! She spoke English and communicated very well, in turn making us not feel confused during the ceremony. At the end, all participants got to ask questions which the cunning tea master then would answer — a big plus!
This was an awesome experience. The tea house is truly stunning. The woman who lead the experience was kind, open, and very giving. The tea master had 15 years of experience and she was wonderful. It was fun to meet the other travelers that did the tasting with us. We had two other couples at the same time we were there. You get to make your own matcha although you also get the opportunity to have a matcha prepared by the experts. The staff will take a few pictures for you. You can use your camera throughout, just remember to be respectful.
Lovely, peaceful experience in a centuries old tea house and stunning garden. A great escape from the hustle and bustle of tourist-filled streets of historic Kyoto.
Great tea ceremony, the tea master and translator made the whole experience amazing. In particular the garden was beautiful and really helped you relax and live in the moment.
I had a lovely time here. I opted for this ceremony because I only had about a day in Kyoto, and this was under an hour. Beautiful ceremony and garden, and very kind and welcoming hosts. I’m a tour guide back in my country, so I have some experience memorizing a lot of information and communicating it; I was so impressed by our host, Haru - not only by her extensive knowledge of the ceremony and history, but also her ability to communicate so much information seamlessly and fluently in a second language. The tea and traditional sweet were delicious, and the ceremony is close to a lot of other sights in Kyoto. I highly recommend coming here. Thank you for having me!
A real highlight of our trip to Kyoto. The ceremony was a special experience for our family where we learnt about the various aspects and were able to participate. A very welcoming guide with excellent English, we were immediately put at ease so that we could enjoy the time and have photos taken at the end.
Very zen experience, staff was lovely, made it an unforgettable experience. Tea master was very cute.
Very beautiful and peaceful experience! We got to watch the tea master do the traditional ceremony, as well as take some time making our own tea.
Very peaceful and respectful setting. Professional presentation, but prepare to be uncomfortable kneeling/sitting for 45 min
It was a very nice experience with a good and professional tea master! Thank you for this beautiful experience !
This was such a Zen experience, it’s been the highlight of our trip so far! My daughter has attended several tea ceremonies and she said this one is the best she’s had because of both the beautiful scenery/garden and the educational and serene ceremony presentation. I also loved the Q and A at the end. Exceptional experience!
This was an interesting look at the traditions around the tea ceremony. It was easy to understand and was quite interesting. We enjoyed this. However we did get a little confused when trying to find the place. It isn't at the temple and is its own little house with small garden on the busy street way before the temple.
We really enjoyed this experience! It took place in a beautiful place and it was very informative. Thank you
The place of this ceremony cannot be matched. The whole experience of just being in that garden would be worth the money. The ceremony was well explained and it was beautiful and serene. I highly recommend this experience.
Our host had such a tranquil and calm speaking voice, we could’ve listened to him all day. His instructions were clear and guided us about all of the processes through the tea ceremony. Our hostess was simply lovely and elegant to watch during the entire ceremony. We appreciated the ability to sit cross-legged instead of kneeling, but a chair/stool was offered multiple times to those who needed it. We had a chance to stretch our legs between the actual ceremony and making our own tea. Although rainy, we also appreciated the ability to take in the garden scenery through the two large windows during the ceremony.
Beautiful gardens and interesting story behind the tea ceremony. However it wasn’t a standout experience.
Beautiful and best location in Kyoto !!!! It was so close to our hotel- walking distance and in heart of popular destination in Jyotos path
Well organized also with the presence of real English speaker that explains you all the details before the ceremony corr
Very interfering and mesmerizing
Wonderful cultural experience. Highly recommended.
Visited here with my boyfriend to experience our first ever tea ceremony. We had booked a few weeks in advance. Booking definitely needed! We arrived a few moments early, took our shoes off and were greeted by a lovely woman who talked us through the process and explained everything very clearly. The room where the tea ceremony is performed looks out onto a gorgeous garden. Very peaceful and scenic. The ceremony had a very calming effect on me. The tea master makes one cup of matcha tea for you then you get to make your own. There was a noticeable difference between mine and theirs, which I think demonstrates how hard it actually is to get it right! The tour doesn't include kimono hire, but this didn't bother us as we wouldn't hire them anyway as we aren't weird.
The welcome, introduction and ceremony was great! The team master was elegant and super gracious with her time afterwards to answer questions. I was impressed by her expertise and knowledge of history. I understand about being calm, focused and present in the moment but the guy behind the screen narrating was too quiet so we didn’t benefit from that. It really was lovely and the tea room and gardens were beautiful and on point! Thanks for the experience and memories.
This was the best part of my vacation!
It was a very beautiful experience. Something you must do in japan
Excellent, beautiful ceremony! Gorgeous garden and the tea was delicious too. We had no difficulty with language barriers, the translator and the tea master were very helpful!
