Itinerary
We will visit one of the oldest rivers in Kyoto, where the traditional machiya houses are still preserved. These old wooden residences were not only homes, but also places of rest and commerce for travelers and merchants of the time
We will visit one of the most picturesque areas of Kyoto along with its traditional houses with the concept of machi-ya
At Chion-in, we will talk about how Buddhism came to Japan and the impact it had on the spiritual life of the country. We will also discover a curious connection with the ninjas, who found in some temples strategic allies and spaces to hide thanks to their unique architecture.
At Maruyama Park, we will pause to talk about Sakamoto Ryōma, one of the most revolutionary characters in 19th century Japan. We will learn about his history, his struggle for the modernization of the country and why his figure is still so admired in Japanese history
On charming Nene Street, we will stop to learn the story of Nene, one of the most influential women of the Sengoku period. Wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, his legacy goes beyond political power: we will talk about his wisdom, his role in wartime and the impact he left in Kyoto until today
We will talk about the Kōshin-dō temple, a colorful corner full of amulets called kukurizaru, which represent the desires we must learn to control. In addition, we will know the curious relationship of the temple with monkeys, symbols of self-control and spiritual messengers in this tradition.

Great informative tour with Sebastian.
We reserved a free guided tour in Kyoto today and had the opportunity to meet with a great guide, Sebastian, who introduced us with great knowledge to very interesting historical and cultural aspects of Japan which have allowed us to better understand this wonderful Country; highly recommended guide!
Very good experience with Sebas. He was very clear in the explanations and the tour was at the right pace. Definitely recommended!
Great tour with Sebastian. Culture, history, everything we could have expected! Thank you!!!
Very complete tour, definetely worth doing. Congratulations to the guide Diego, who has an amazing knowledge of Oriental History and Culure
Irene was an amazing tour guide. She included history details, city and food recomendations, great stories... all in a very structurized way. It was a hot day and she took us to very quiet, fresh and nice areas which made the tour very enjoyable. she was great!
We had our Kyoto tour with Chiara. She is very friendly and sweet and did her best showing us the gems of Kyoto and its history. We did notice that some of the information were inaccurate or lacked further development, so she needs a little more practice :) don’t let it stop you booking the tour, it was a nice experience (with the help of Google search here and there) ;)
It was very interesting and fun to wonder through Kyoto with Miguels explanations. 10 out of 10.
Miguel was very knowledgeable about the city and was very generous with what he knew. Very entertaining and fun
An excellent tour. Miguel was an excellent guide- incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I loved hearing about the differences between shrines and temples! A fab tour- just book it- you won’t regret it!!
Our guide, Miguel, is very knowledgeable and engaging. We loved how he pointed out unique and fascinating details during the tour. It was the perfect beginning to our first visit to Kyoto. Thank you so much, Miguel
Ideal for an introduction to Kyotos history, culture and most beautiful locations. Our guide, Miguel, was fantastic. His years in Japan and educational pursuits provide a unique perspective. I would highly recommend.
Miguel is a fluent English speaker and has an amazing way of sharing the historic information related to this tour, his background as a teacher certainly creates an advantage for him. I learned so much on this tour! I highly recommend this tour with Miguel or any tour that he offers. I've been in Tokyo and in Kyoto taking several tours and I can say that this is the best one so far! Thank-you Miguel.
The tour was lovely from beginning to end. Miguel was kind and well prepared, and he made everything feel smooth and enjoyable. His stories were interesting and added a special touch to the walk! Definately reccomanded :)
Lila was wonderful !!! She had lots of knowledge and energy. Her communication and people skills were very essential for understanding the history of the tour. Definitely recommend her and would gladly do another tour with her. Saludos LiLa
Miguel did a phenomenal job on the tour today. I highly recommend going on his tour as he is not only a very nice guy, but very informative and knowledgeable about Kyoto history. We thoroughly enjoyed this morning‘s walk with Miguel.
Jordi did it amazing! We had a great experience… He offered a lot information but never bored. Japandas is always a good plan.
Very informative and interesting tour with irene. She is very knowledgable regarding all aspects of the culture and way of life. Very glad we did this tour
Great walking tour with Lila. Although we didn't see any Geisha on the tour it was great to find out more about how they live and the training that goes into becoming a Geisha. The tour visited a number of interesting sites around Kyoto and was a good way for us to get our bearings. After the tour we retraced some of our steps and saw a group of Geisha's leaving an event, which was a great experience!
Maina was very informative and patient and helpful and a pleasant guide the tour involves walking for around two hours with small breaks the highlight is seeing the geisha on the streets
Japandas was a fantastic guide. Her knowledge and deluvery were superb. I will recommend her and Guru Walk to all my friends and family.
we had an amazing time with Lila- she was not only fun but could also answer all our questions about Geishas and Japan in generell :)
Tour guide, Leela was amazing We had a great time, exploring the Gion with her I would highly recommend her to everybody who is planning to come to Kyoto
Ayumi is fantastic!!! She speaks English very fluently (which is rare in Japan) and has lots of very interesting Geisha-related information to share. Ayumi is so well prepared because she has lots of photographs to show to explain the various concepts - eg the difference between a Geiko (Geisha as they're known in Kyoto) and Maiko (Geisha in training). Ayumi even has quizzes to help keep the walking tour interesting. To top it off, Ayumi will even send a lost of places to eat and visit while in Kyoto! A Tik Toker needs to attend one of Ayumi's tours and help her go viral. Ayumi is a hidden gem of Kyoto!!!
Ayumi made such an interessting and cool tour und guided us to all the geisha places in gion! We learned so much about the life of meiko and geiko ! Thanks Ayumi for this entertaining and nice walk!!
Ayumi was fantastic guiding the whole group through the beautiful area of Gion in Kyoto. I would recommend it to everyone!
Ayumi was an enthusiastic and wonderful tour guide who could answer every question! She showed us a very respectful and interesting insight into the life of Mexikos and Geikos
Great guide, entertaining, knowledgeable, enough facts to remember, in the format that made remembering easy. Stopped at quiet places to talk so everyone could hear, allowed time for taking 📸. Send GREAT links for restaurants and things to do. Arigato Michael.
My children were very disappointed tonight on this tour. We went to Geisha district and had an interesting talk but we learnt nothing new. We saw no Geishas- apparently one went past in a black out taxi but the heading is misleading. Don’t waste your time!
Tour guide was great. Learned alot. Very low chance of seeing Geishas with this huge, loud tour that started later than the best time to see them. Disappointed that booking through Trip Advisor was really booking through Viator without telling me and charged me $120 for a free tour with Japandas.
The tour was good, but we didn't see a single Geisha, let alone meet one. The pictures and title of the tour is very deceiving.
This is our 1st trip in Kyoto as we landed Japan. This is must tour to learn about the Japanese Culture and authentic Japanese wardrobe
Worst experience ever; the tour guide did not show up, no response to our calls and messages and they refused to provide us with a refund. We lost an afternoon in Kyoto. Beware of this company.
Our guide Serhio was just amazing. He explained a lot of history and stories. Took the time to answer all our questions! And we saw more than one maiko during the tour! Definitely from my experience in Kyoto, Sergio’s tour was one of the best!
Irene ha sido una guía excepcional que nos ha explicado con detalle cada parada de la visita demostrando sus grandes conocimientos de historia japonesa. La recomendaría a todo el que visite Kioto. Un diez sin duda
A fabulous tour. The guide Sebastián does a phenomenal job; he tells you a lot about the history of the place and the country. And he makes it very enjoyable. You can tell he knows his stuff and that he likes what he is talking about. He is kind and funny. We loved it. It is best to arrive on time, but it is not worth arriving earlier because the guide does not arrive earlier either. Highly recommended.
Sebastian is the best guide we have had in all of Japan!!!!
Sebastián explained the history of Kyoto very well. Excellent tour, I recommend it
We could not be happier with our choice. Taking the tour of Kyoto with José was simply great. He is a super informative guide who took us to really beautiful and very charming places. What we valued most was his personal touch: sharing his stories and experiences made the visit much more special, intimate, and entertaining. Without a doubt, we recommend José with our eyes closed to anyone visiting the city. Thank you so much for such a wonderful day!
Our guide Sebastian was truly exceptional. You could tell from the emphasis in his explanations that his work was not just a job but a passion. Three hours of touring the streets and hidden alleys of Kyoto without effort... aside from a few steps. Well done thank you Sebastian
Very good tour to learn about the history of the city and Japan in general. Historical and cultural details are provided, and even if you know several of these, the guide is prepared to go into more depth. Irene, our guide, is very engaging, has great communication skills, and manages the group very well regarding timing and levels of information.
We did the free tour of Kyoto with Irene and it was great. She showed us the city in great detail, explaining the history and curiosities of each place in a very pleasant and easy-to-understand way. You can tell she loves what she does and enjoys sharing her knowledge. In addition, Irene is super nice, approachable, and attentive, and she made the tour very entertaining and special. We had a wonderful experience and, without a doubt, we recommend taking the tour with her. Thank you very much, Irene! 😊
Our guide Sebastian was excellent. You managed to lead a large group on a day of extreme heat and kept them focused and interested the whole time. Super Recommend!!!
Very good, I learned a little bit since I knew nothing about the samurai
A wonderful experience, we did the tour with Sebas. He provided us with a lot of information and interesting facts about Kyoto and Japan in general. A very well-informed guide who made the experience very enjoyable.😃
Irene was a great guide. He explained the history of Japan and Kyoto to us in detail. We are lucky to have her.
The free tour with José Miguel in Kyoto was wonderful
Great, highly recommended, you learn a little about the area and its history. Everything makes more sense with someone explaining every detail.
We loved the tour, Jordi was very pleasant and attentive at all times.
