Yama is an excellent driver and very flexible in accommodating in setting up your itinerary. Was greatly appreciated.
Thanks Yama. Great trip. We saw Tina inna short period of time.
Yama was a great guide. Highly recommend this as you see all the highlights in a day :)
We had an amazing Kyoto & Nara private tour with Japan Luxury Tours! Our tour guide’s name was Yama. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. Yama did a great job showing us the highlights while also sharing interesting information about the history and culture. Everything was well organized and relaxed. Highly recommend Yama if you’re looking for a great private tour guide in Kyoto and Nara!
First time visiting Kyoto, and our tour with Yama made it an awesome experience. Initial communication for setting up a meeting time and place was clear and responsive. Also appreciated Yama’s suggestions for planning an itinerary, as well as his recommendations for snacks, because we food 😊. The vehicle was spacious, super clean and comfortable. Yama was a good driver and knew each site and surrounding areas really well. We liked that he was personable and had a relaxed sense of humor, but was always professional, keeping us on track with our itinerary throughout the day.
We loved our guide. However, when they said everything was included they did not mention the extra cash of about $150.00usd you needed to give the guide for gas and fees. We paid everything in advance and had to scramble to get the cash last minute when they sent a message the night before. We also had to pay for some entrance fees. I would rather know the real price upfront.
Yama was very nice and pleasant. He showed us the highlights of Kyoto and Nara and it was a really good experience. Thank you!
Nara - Kyoto tour was great, we had a family of 4 with 2 daughters 13-10. Yama was great. He was able very patient with my daughter’s slower pace and was able to help us get to all the different places we ask to be included as it was a fully customizable. The deer park was the highlight of the trip for me. But every stop was great. He recommended the treat shop that had the purple yams and it was a great decision as we had that on our list to do any ways. The only thing was that I paid for all of the attractions, which was fine, but I also had to pay 15000 yen that I thought was supposed to include admission fees parking and tolls. I paid this and the entrance fees. They did say it was extra, but it is very misleading on the price original price they quote. Other than that, the day was great and would recommend the company so long as I get an explanation / refund of the issue. I would highly recommend Yama as he is great!

I wanted to customize my Kyoto and Nara experience. Usually tours only go to Nara, Arishiyama, Inari gates and temples within Kyoto. Yama our fluent English speaking guide was very pleasant and flexible and as a result we were also able to have a wonderful experience in Uji. I would highly recommend this tour.
Our guide was wonderful! He was so hardworking and dedicated to us. While we were touring, I accidentally lost my phone and he went above and beyond to help me get it back and I can never thank him enough for it. He then got us right back on track with our next stop. Our experience would not have been the same without him.
Our tour guide today was Yama, he was a great communicator before and during our tour. He wanted to know exactly what sites we wanted to visit. His car is very comfortable and he picked us up exactly from our hotel. He knew all the spots to get great photos without the crowds and we shared a great lunch together. He is very patient and made us feel welcomed and relaxed. We certainly would use him on our next visit to Japan. Thank you Yama!
The tour with Yama today was great. He fully customized the itinerary to fit our interests and made sure we saw all the sites that were on our list. He even shared some recommendations for what to do the following day in Osaka. I highly recommend this tour!
We had a great day with our guide and enjoyed every moment. Very good communication with the company and our guide spoke amazingly English, explaining many new things to us.
Full day guided tour in Kyoto and Nara. Wonderful experience.
Yama was great, he took us to all of the sights in Kyoto we had an amazing day!
We had a very large group from young kids to grandparents, and Yama handled us all well. He was especially wonderful with my kids. My 5- and 7-year olds wanted to hold his hand the whole time, which he did very sweetly. My 12-year old sat next to him on the train to Hiroshima to ask him about WWII history from Japan’s perspective. He was kind and patient with all my kids, and I really appreciated that. My kids are very selective about who they talk to, and they warmed up to Yama instantly.
A great decision to book a second tour with this service. Tour other parts of Kyoto. Our second tour was just as enjoyable and smooth. Plenty to see in Kyoto for a second day, without feeling rushed or over extended. Lucky to have Yama show us around for both tour days. Yama communicates well in English and Japanese. Very polite and courteous. Really adds to the tour to be accompanied by Yama, a Kyoto resident, to find some hidden gems.
Well worth booking this service. Well organized. Logistics went smoothly. Well kept vehicle. We have been to Kyoto a couple times. Kyoto sites are spread around the city perimeter and center. A lot to be said about taking the stress out of trains, transfers and walking, when you can go doorstep to doorstep in a private vehicle. Get that custom tour to your liking. We booked this service to see northwest Kyoto. Our driver Yama communicates well in Japanese and English. He shared some history as we toured. Great suggestions on restaurants away from tourist traps, photo ops, and go-to spots for famous Kyoto matcha and other treats. We appreciate that he made the trip enjoyable and comfortable.
We saw a number of interesting sites (park with deer), temples, shrines, over a large area so there was a fair amount of driving involved. Our guide was very young and not very knowledgeable though he spoke English very well having attended university in the USA. I would recommend the tour as long as the guide was knowledgeable.
The guide Mr. Ya a was very well versed with English, he understood our requirements and took us to places of all our choices. He drove very sensibly and took care of kids' expectations also along with ours.
For me, the only way to travel and see the sights is my booking a private tour! Always! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and showed us the most important sites to see while visiting Koyto. Overall, great day!
Lots of uphill walking at monkey park but definitely worth it! Our guide Yama was great / very knowledgeable and friendly! Took us to hidden spots to avoid the crowds. Amazing experience!! Worth every penny!
For the amount we paid, I expected to go to more places. I think there are better tour operators for the same price point.
Wonderful experience and tour. Our driver/guide Yama very very professional, helpful and careful!! Yama for ever!!!
I booked this tour to cover some of the most important places to visit in Japan, and it exceeded my expectations. Our guide, Yama, was incredibly precise and attentive to all our requests, making the experience smooth and enjoyable.
I thought I had booked a guide who would tell us all about each place. Lovely chap but he just drove and only gave info when we asked. Maybe my mistake but I assumed we would have a guide as a driver but felt he was just a driver .
My wife and I flew into Osaka from Kuala Lumpur with one key plan in mind: a day trip to Kyoto. The big decision was whether to join a group tour or engage a private guide with a car. We chose the latter—and it turned out to be one of the best travel decisions we’ve ever made. Yes, it comes at a higher cost—but the value is undeniable. Kyoto can be crowded, distances between sights are not trivial, and navigating trains or public transport can quickly become tiring, especially in warm weather. Having a private guide and car transformed the entire experience into something seamless, efficient, and truly enjoyable. We spent our time soaking in Kyoto—not figuring out logistics. What made the day exceptional was our guide, Yama—an enthusiastic young Japanese with impeccable English, deep local knowledge, and an instinct for navigating Kyoto’s hidden corners. Our first stop was the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. While it was bustling with visitors, Yama expertly guided us to a quieter access point that avoided the crowds and long walks. The towering bamboo groves were breathtaking—serene, majestic, and almost otherworldly. We then visited Kinkaku-ji, the iconic Golden Pavilion. Yama walked the grounds with us, sharing the rich history and cultural significance of the temple while also thoughtfully helping us capture some wonderful photos—moments we’ll truly treasure. Lunch was at Warajiya, a charming and traditional Japanese restaurant known for its unagi congee. Once again, the convenience of a private car stood out—Yama dropped us right at the entrance and picked us up after what was a unique and satisfying culinary experience. Our final stop was Gion, Kyoto’s famed geisha district. Here, local knowledge really matters. Yama chose a quieter, less crowded section of Gion, allowing us to appreciate its beauty and heritage without the usual throngs. His familiarity with the city’s small parking spots meant minimal walking—something we greatly appreciated given the warm weather. After a fulfilling 8-hour journey, we returned to Osaka relaxed and deeply satisfied. We are truly grateful to Yama for his careful driving, thoughtful planning, and unwavering politeness throughout the day. His ability to combine efficiency with a personal touch made the experience not just convenient, but genuinely special. I would highly recommend Yama to anyone seeking a private Kyoto experience—especially for those who value comfort, time efficiency, and meaningful local insight. This was more than just a day trip—it was a beautifully curated journey through Kyoto, and one we will always remember.
We engaged Yamato to take us around Kyoto and Nara after our friends recommended him and had so much fun. He has great English and was very accomodating and helpful. Our 10 and 9 year old children absolutely loved him and we highly recommend him. We also engaged Yamato to take us around Osaka which was another fun day. We will definitely be using him again next time we come to Japan!!
We travelled with Yamato Kline around Kyoto on a day trip from Osaka and nothing could be more worth it ! Yama is patient, especially since we had children and seniors with us... He cheerfully took us around the heritage centre of Kyoto, temples of Kiomizudera and found us a quiet spot at the bamboo grove. He even waited while we shopped endlessly for souvenirs. It was a pleasure travelling with such an even tempered, patient guide and an excellent driver. If you're short on time, this is the best way to see Kyoto undoubtedly ! Thank you for a great day Yama

Yama was fantastic! He kept us on schedule so we could fit a lot in, was very knowledge, kind and helpful. We loved Kyoto and all the stops on this tour. Book with Yama!!
We had a great time with Yama, our driver and guide. Very knowledgeable, personable, and efficient with getting us to our planned destinations. Yama knew the roads well and planned our tour appropriately to experience the sites in best possible weather conditions. Thank you!! We had an excellent time.
We left this tour with amazing memories and even a new friend. Yama was an incredible host—knowledgeable, patient, informative, and entertaining from start to finish. He shared so much about Kyoto and Nara and made the entire experience feel personal and enjoyable. He even went above and beyond by extending the tour at no extra cost. If you’re looking for an English-speaking host who will make your trip special for you, your family, or your friends, Yama is the one to book.
We had a very good day with Yama! We were a family of 3 with one of us being a 72 y.o. with mobility issues and Yama was very patient and accommodating. He accompanied us to sites we visited and answered all of our questions all the while being a very safe and efficient driver. Thank you Yama.
Yama is great! He was very accommodating of our family and took us to all the great spots around the Kyoto area. He knew all the popular, yummy spots for food and snacks too. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Kyoto who needs an English/Japanese speaking guide. Thanks Yama! 🙌🏽
