What a completely beautiful experience this was. Highly recommend. In all the busy-ness that is Japan when you are on holidays, doing a traditional tea ceremony gets you to calm and take a breath and be in the moment. The idea around the tea ceremony is the very definite movements when firstly donning a kimono, then the matcha tea. Our guide on the day was so lovely and incredible and totally made the experience so worthwhile. We opted to go all in and be dressed in kimonos and the lovely ladies who dressed me did so with intention, even the donning of a kimono and getting your hair done is an experience thats so worthwhile. Cannot recommend this experience enough. We also added on a calligraphy session which do highly recommend as well, gives you a keepsake of the day.

Absolutely brilliant experience, the tea ceremony itself is lovely but the dressing up was the best bit!
The tea ceremony was so beautiful and to learn about the tradition was nice.
What a beautiful experience, well organised and very friendly team, I didn't feel awkward being solo and as a black woman, I felt comfortable with friendly people all about me , the culture is very beautiful and respectful, I enjoyed getting dressed in my choice of kimono and as I had afro hair I just had clips attached to my hair that was enough . The tea ceremony was lovely and very educative. I walked round to the shop in my kimono to buy matcha and returned back, no issues . Thanks for a lovely day
Great experience with my wife and kids learning about the tea ceremony and even getting dressed up in authentic kimonos.
Great experience and had a genuiene Japanese feel to it all the family enjoyed it. Also got to dress up in a kumno.
Absolutely loved this experience with my teen daughters we dressed up in kimonos and had our hair done, the women helping us were so sweet and really became part of the experience. The tea ceremony was beautiful and our host was the epitome of peace and kindness. From now on every sip of matcha has a deeper meaning. We also were able to take photos dressed up in the tea house. This was a Kyoto must do.
Great experience. Everyone was super nice and friendly. Learned a lot about the meaning behind tea ceremonies in Japan from Yuki. It was a bonus that we got to wear our kimonos and walk through Gion wearing them for a few hours.
Our family of four decided to experience a tea ceremony. Smart decision. All four of us, two men and two women, were outfitted with appropriate kimonos, undergarments, tabi shoes and socks, and obis. The ladies had their hair done in traditional Japanese styles. We were taken upstairs where we met Mariko. Mariko explained the significance and process of a ritual tea ceremony. Following eating something sweet to enhance the flavor of the matcha tea, Mariko taught us how to properly make our own cups of tea. It was a great time had by all. Even my often impatient teens were really into it. All in all, we truly enjoyed ourselves and I heartily recommend this activity. I must point out that everyone was an absolute delight. There was a young man who I discovered shares my passion for music. He was very helpful explaining things before and after the ceremony. The young lady who assisted my son and me with selecting our outfit was very patient and a pure delight. I’m sure the same was true for the lady who assisted my wife and daughter. Of course, Mariko was the star, and she was great. I know I have missed some others. Everyone was delightful, helpful, professional, and like everyone else in Japan - - very polite and grateful. Go!!!
We’d recommend this experience. We had a great time. Dressed in kimono, an experience in itself, we found the tea ceremony informative. The staff was brilliant.
What an amazing experience my adult daughter and I shared together! We both so enjoyed getting dressed up in the beautiful kimonos, learning about the ancient art of tea-making, and making our own matcha tea with sweet treats. They gave us plenty of time to take pictures after. We felt very “divinely feminine” wearing the kimonos. We both highly recommend this extra special experience in Gion!
This is a great experience, short enough that you can easily fit it in a busy day, along with the fact that you get to choose a kimono to wear, ladies get their hair done up. You even get the socks and sandals they wore. You can get photos in while you wait for the ceremony. At the tea ceremony, they give you a little history, and then explain each part of the ceremony. It's quite fascinating. Then you try a traditional sweet, then you get to stir up your own matcha tea and enjoy.
The experience was great. The location was super easy to find and the women who helped me get dressed in the kimono were so sweet. They took their time to do your hair nice as well and take pictures. The ceremony was great but it is hard to sit on your knees for that long. Do some stretching ahead!
It was such a great experience for us friends to do this tea ceremony wearing the traditional kimono. The stuff is very nice. We got to picked the color of kimonos we want to wear and helped us put them on. They fixed our hair too. They took a lot of our pictures. It was one of the highlight of our trip in Japan.
This was a great experience. It was fun and we met some lovely people. You should include the Kimono option. it adds to the fun. Highly recommended.
This was a fantastic experience. I can’t believe the value we got for the price - especially compared to other offerings in the area. The experience included getting dressed in the kimonos - for which we got to choose the colours and all the accessories. Women got their hair done and got to choose hair accessories too and there was a beautiful spot for photos inside the building. The tea ceremony itself was a unique experience and a nice moment of calm in our hectic Japan schedule. The host taught us the importance of each of his movements and performed his role with such grace and style. All of the staff were friendly and made us feel comfortable. I’d definitely recommend this place. Bonus is it’s in cute little traditional style houses on a very pretty street.
This was one of my favorite moments from my recent trip to Japan. My boyfriend and I had such a great experience! I loved that every step of the tea ceremony was so intentional and performed with passion. There were so many options for kimonos and even hair accessories. Everything felt very personalized and intimate. The matcha itself was delicious and I am still dreaming about the sweets I had alongside the tea. I would recommend this experience to anyone coming to Kyoto and especially to tea lovers.
Wearing of Kimono costume was amusing and fun. We get to walk around the Gion area after the ceremony while wearing it at no extra cost. It’s amazing how the tea ceremony was performed. Highly recommended
We had an awesome time learning the tea ceremony etiquette with the instructors and it was fun to dress up in kimonos! The service was excellent and they went out of their way to take great photos of us during the event.
Great tea ceremony with the opportunity to fully dress in a kimono and get pictures. it was a very small group which made for an intimate experience.
It was not just an experience but a moment outside of time, far from the modern world. Wearing the kimono was just the first step to truly entering the atmosphere of ancient Japan. Then the scent of tatami, the sound of boiling water, the slow and precise gestures of the teacher, and the taste of matcha did the rest. Upon leaving, I had the feeling of having experienced something authentic!
