A fabulous way to experience Fushimi Inari with a peaceful walk up through the mountain path to the Tori gates. We came across large crowds at the end. Kana shared lots of cultural information as well as some hidden spots. She was an excellent guide taking photographs as well. Highly recommend. Perfect way to experience

This tour includes a beautiful nature walk and access to see the Fushimi Inari of Kyoto. We began the tour promptly on time, and started by walking through beautiful neighborhoods and old, mossy shrines on the way to to the Fushimi Inari, learning about local religious culture along the way. We made our way up the mountain, learning about various religious lore along the way. Finally, we descended through a beautiful bamboo forest to finish out the tour. Masa was kind and sweet as he showed us around. Definitely wear sturdy shoes and breathable clothing because you do hike for the full 3 hours and there are many stairs up and down the mountain! The limited group size is also nice, as it kept things intimate and easy to navigate while you do not have to pay for private tour prices.
Avoided crowds as much as possible and shared small fun stories
Hina was a great host and the tour was incredible in avoiding the big crowds. She was also very informative and patient. In addition to the great tour we had an opportunity to try miso ice cream!
Excellent experience! It was better than I had expected.
We are so glad that we booked the private tour as it gave us a chance to learn more about Fushimi Inari rather than just walk through some torii gates and take pictures. Our tour guide was amazing and we took a route that wasn’t as busy so didn’t feel overwhelming, once you get to the main part with all the other tourists it’s like Disneyland! Book the private tour you won’t forget it. Thanks again guys you were great!
Very informative and friendly guide. She was able to answer all our questions and the hike was not too crowded allowing us to enjoy the scenery
Ai was an amazing guide! She was very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the path she took us through and she was very patient in explaining what we were seeing. She also helped us to take some great photos. Highly recommend.
Matt was fantastic, very informative, great views.
We had a fantastic tour of the Torii gates with Naomi! We had booked a group tour, but got lucky and were the only two guests! She was super friendly and made the whole experience really enjoyable. She took us along a quieter, less touristy route, which made it feel extra special, and took some amazing photos of us along the way. Having a private tour just for the two of us was perfect, and we couldn’t recommend Naomi enough. A wonderful experience! 🌿📸 (Note there is a good amount of walking and climbing & descending steps, so not advised for people lacking a reasonable level of fitness and mobility.)
Excellent information and tour by Mr. Kakiguchi. It was wonderful to see local neighborhoods and see the shrine from a less busy area. I also appreciated that the tour proceeded even though I was the only participant.

Reiko was very sweet and full of interesting information. Would recommend!
Great tour, highly recommend! Reiko was super knowledgeable and friendly. The walk through Fushimi Inari wouldn't have been the same experience without her !
Wonderful tour with Ai who is a lovely and knowledgeable guide.
Ai was an excellent guide! Very nice and knowledgeable
Ai was the best tour guide ever! So well informed with such a bright spirit. She led our group through a wonderful 3 hour experience filled with storytelling, pictures, and sharing her culture. I especially loved how she taught us how to pray at the shrines.
The tour was a incredible experience and our guide is an amazing job of explaining all the different facets of the different temple shrines, their meaning, and history.
Matt was an amazing guide, taking us through back trails and paths exploring the entire hill of shrines. Definitely worth it!
Glad we did it. The main path was PACKED with people and we were finished when many were starting. We took an alternate path through the woods. The guide was a bit hard to understand but he was fine. Overall we were glad we went.
Momo was incredible! Very knowledgeable, prompt , sweet and had great energy. Highly recommend . And she did our tour in a way that allowed us to enjoy the area without being overwhelmed by the crowds .
Matt was amazing. He was so polite and informational. I can’t say enough good things about him and his tour. Recommended for anyone who wants to avoid the crowds and learn so much history. Thanks Matt!
Really enjoyed the hike. We saw so many interesting quiet spots away from the main tourist route. The walk up the mountain seemed to go in stages so never felt too onerous till the last 3 sets of steps. We took so many photos and lots with no crowds. The Forrest areas are beautiful too. Walking back through the bamboo is also very quiet. The guides told us a lot about the area /shrines/culture etc on the way. I’d recommend decent shoes as some parts are quite rough but all very doable if you’re relatively fit and able.
Was the hiking highlight of our two week trip in Japan. Three hours and many meaningful stops. Highly recommend. Our guide AI was particularly knowledgeable, pleasant and friendly.
Fantastic Tour. Thank you Ai. The mountain walk was just beautiful. Your knowledge of the area was so interesting. Thank you very much.
Wow what a great tour and tour guide! Momo was fun and informative and the route takes you up a quiet path to the top and back down again. Lots of steps and climbing so need to be aware, but would absolutely recommend this tour! And Momo!
The best! So nice to to start at the top and work the way down
This tour was just ok. Our guide, Josh, made it clear that he was in a hurry and he was not accommodating to the pace of the 10 year old or 75 year old in our group. We felt rushed and eventually one adult broke off with the 10 year old and were not able to stay with our family due to the pace. We learned some history but not as much as I was expecting and it felt like we had to probe for info at times. I think we would have been able to have a more enjoyable time exploring this spot on our own but it was interesting to see the mountain area surrounding the shrines.
While our guide was a very sweet 77 year old lady, her English was very limited. We were unable to ask questions as she did not comprehend what we were asking. Did not really get much information from her.
Lovely guide, long but enjoyable walk, really enjoyed it and would do again.
Great tour, avoiding the crowds. Matt was very knowledgeable. Would recommend.
Very nice and friendly, very knowledgeable and the English was very good. She helped us understand a lot about the Shrines and of Japan. We loved it so much!!!!
Our group of 3 joined Jimmy today (Oct 7) and 2 other folks for his tour, also accompanied by the lively and talented Wakako. We were met promptly and our meet location, and after a quick orientation and introductions, we were off. On our way up the quiet side of the walk up Fushimi Inari. Jimmy stopped several times to provide insights and interesting facts about Japanese culture. Once up the beautiful and shaded trail, his knowledge and high level of engagement with his guests was excellent. We learned so much about the symbolism, foxes, mirrors, as well as how to respect the Tori gates and all of the sacred sites. We are SO glad we elected to do this guided activity, as it was exponentially more informative and enlightening than our usual mode of self- guiding. Jimmy was a superb guide, and he was a highlight of our 4 week Japan trip thus far. Arigato! Rory and Maureen Crescent Beach, BC, Canada
It was a wonderful experience! Jimmy was a great guide with a lot of knowledge on the history and meaning behind the shrines. I would 100% book again. Going the secret back way was definitely the way to see shrines.
This tour was fantastic! You get to really take in the serene beauty of Fushimi Inari without all the crowds at the main entrance. Jimmy was a wonderful and knowledgeable local guide who added a lot of valuable context to the meaning behind the various torii, statues, and other things that we came across. I would absolutely recommend, just be prepared for lots of stairs!
Ai is amazing. We loved our tour with her. Very interesting and informative
My tour guide showed me a great time where there are almost no tourists surrounding the locations she showed us. The hike is insanely very nice while difficult I think it was worth it for the experience. The tour was like less than $50 and it lasted 4 hours at that too. It felt great too with our tour guide Ai being a Japanese local. Best for those who love Japanese culture and an awesome hike.
Very good tour with Ai. Beautiful shrine and interesting tour. Nice to enter from the quieter side and enjoy the tranquility of the forest.
Great experience and day. We learned a lot and saw beautiful things.
It was a really amazing tour. We got to experience the shrine in a very special way, first being among nature. I would recommend!
I am so glad we did this and beat the crowds as well as having a fantastic explanation of the shrine, religions, customs and culture. It was a beautiful walk in nature despite the rain. My 6yr old son managed it with minimal whinging.
We had the best time with Matt on this tour. He was funny, patient and insightful. Many of the places shown was without a big crowds which made it more special
It was a great experience, our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. We couldn't have asked, or hoped, for a better experience.
We were a bit dubious at first but by the time we ended the tour we realised why they do the tour this way ! Starting at the end was so much better, we virtually had 3/4 of the tour on our own, because had we come from the start we would surely have given up half way , if not before! because there were so many people heading up and hardly anyone heading down! It’s a big day out but so beautiful it’s breath taking and without the huge crowds it was so much more pleasant , so consider this tour first … it’s hard going make no mistake but either way it would be hard going! but definitely worth starting at the end!!!!! And l mustn’t forget to say that Ai was a kind and caring guide she could see us struggling and alter the way to make it easier on us …, ps we are a bit on the older side lol and thought it might have been a bit too difficult but we made it with a few changes to the route so don’t be frighten to try this tour because with Ai help you’ll be fine …
Naomi's tour was very fun. The paths she chose were beautiful and she explained a lot about local customs. She was easy to talk to and was happy to answer any questions I had.
Loved avoiding the crowds for most of the trip! Naomi also explained many different places along the way
It was a wonderful experience overall. I highly recommend Ai as a guide. She provides excellent explanations of the historical and religious aspects abd is very attentive. We really enjoyed baking guided up the back pathways to the top seeing many other sites along the way. We are very grateful for her explanations and guidance. Fantastic morning.
Jimmy was great! Highly recommend. Avoided the crowds by taking less traveled paths. This is a must do in Kyoto and I’d request Jimmy if I did it again.
Ai was an excellent guide! She took us through the tour like a champ while carefully explaining the history of the area to us. This was an off the beaten path tour and I highly recommend it over the standard route as it was fairly quiet and we got to enjoy the sights without huge crowds.
Our family had a fantastic time!! We loved our guides Jimmy and Morio- they were encouraging and kind and fun! We learned so much and we absolutely recommend this. It is worth paying the money to skip the crowds and see the beautiful serenity of this gorgeous Shrine. Thank you so much Jimmy and Morio! You made this unforgettable for our family.
