A brilliant day. It was just me and the tour still went ahead so I had the best time seeing loads and learning loads. My guide, Julian, was great fun and enthusiastic, making sure all was good and finding us the best and most fun lunch. I felt safe on the roads as it wasn’t too hectic and the temples were awesome, with some really wonderful places to see at a sensible pace. I would highly recommend the tour and Julian as an excellent guide who made the day fly by! Thanks for a super time!

Quinn was a superstar - can’t recommend him enough!
great day exploring the city with our guide Karl, who was knowledgeable, friendly and customized our day to meet our needs. Karl also gave us great info on places to eat at our other destinations and showed interest in our needs - thank you Karl!!!
We had a fantastic day with Quin. He was extremely knowledge and enthusiastic about Japanese history and the sites we visited. I cannot recommend this tour enough as a great way to start a visit to Kyoto. The bikes were high quality and the riding was easy.
Great trip, Great guide - Jay “rock on” -, not the usual city trip. Great company, would do it all over again.
Our guide Karl was exceptional. He was so friendly and knowledgeable. The tour took us to such a great variety of things to see and experience. A fantastic Japanese curry lunch stop. Best thing to do for a first day in Kyoto!
We had a great experience! Our guide Julian was excellent. We had only a short time in Kyoto so this was really a great way to see the city and get a real feel for it. We also stopped at a great udon spot for lunch - he let the group decide what we were in the mood for which I really appreciated. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Kyoto
Meiko-San did a great job with our 8 hour bike tour in Kyoto! We thought it would be too strenuous, but she lead a lovely paced ride around major sites on majority flat roads. She is full of knowledge and recommendations. Arigatouuuu!
This was one of the best days of my life. Kyoto is a special city and the full day bike tour was a great way to see so much of the city in a short amount of time. Quin was an amazing guide and kept us entertained the whole day - super friendly and funny, and full of good information about the history of Kyoto. We had a rainy day but didn’t let that stop us! Quin made sure we were taken care of. I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Thanks Quin and Cycle Kyoto!
We had a lovely experience spending the day with Paul. He was friendly, engaging, knowledgeable and a very fun person to spend time with. We appreciated his insights into local life and culture. Paul was happy and obliging to let us tailor the day to our own pace and agenda. Highly recommend this tour.
It was the best choice we made to explore Kyoto
Amazing full day cycling beautiful Kyoto with the exceptional Jay. Both hugely informative but also very personal exploring not just the key highlight sites but also the back and quieter streets Definitely the highlight of our trip. And Jay was a huge part of that just wonderful.
As a family of five (with grown up kids) we have done quite some bike tours all over the world and we rate this one as probably the best ever! Quinn, our guide was the best, sharing his knowledge about surroundings, Japanese culture and religion. It was a very hot day in Kyoto, but he made it bearable by regular stops at air-conditioned places and adapting the tour with a visit to a yearly purification festival at a shrine were we could walk through water (to cool off!)
Beaftiful experience. The guide was very friendly and social. This is the best way to explore the city.
We did the full-day Kyoto bike tour, and it was one of the highlights of our month-long trip to Japan. The tour included a fun sushi train lunch and provided a fantastic way to experience Kyoto beyond the usual tourist spots. Our guide, Mayco, was exceptional. Her local knowledge, passion for Kyoto, and friendly personality really made the day special. She shared fascinating insights about the city's history, culture, and hidden gems, making every stop more meaningful. The tour was very well planned, allowing us to conveniently visit several temples while avoiding the larger crowds. Cycling through quiet residential streets, along the river, and through the beautiful Gion district gave us a unique perspective of the city that we would not have experienced on our own. The bikes were comfortable and well maintained, and the pace was relaxed and enjoyable. We particularly appreciated that the route focused on less touristy areas while still covering many of Kyoto's iconic sights. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kyoto. It's the perfect way to explore the city, learn about its culture, and see parts of Kyoto that many visitors miss.
The tour was fantastic, and Juan was so nice! He told interesting stories and shared a lot of Japanese history.
Our cycling tour took us to temples, shrines, Geiko dorms, along rivers and through the back blocks of Kyoto. It was fascinating and educational. Big thanks to Juan, who knows the history and culture of Kyoto exceptionally well and he shared it generously. I highly recommend this tour.
First time in Kyoto it was amazing to be able to see the beautiful city while biking. Juan was knowledgeable and fun.
Great guide very insightful. Have learnt a lot about Kyoto and the places we visited. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see Kyoto’s top sights in one day.
A little disorganized at the start and guide did not really tell us what we were going to see or ask input on preferences. Saw a lot of interesting shrines and temples with too much detail on the monks and shoguns. Would have liked more history of the buildings themselves. Could have skipped the chasing around to see a geisha. Nice lunch. The day went later than planned. 8 1/2 hrs.
Paul was such a great tour guide, made all the history and local backstory come to life. I went as a solo traveler, there was a family of 5 and another solo traveler so it was a small but intimate group. Paul managed to navigate us really well through the busier street of Kyoto and we still managed to get our photos. Really good value for money, and if you’ve only got one or two days in Kyoto as part of your trip, this is a great way to see all the top spots and get the history rather than looking it up or skipping that part yourself
The place is difficult to find without google maps but the trip is worth doing. Meyco is very good and extremely helpful.
Our family spent a wonderful day on the full-day tour with Quin as our guide. It was the perfect introduction to the beautiful city of Kyoto. Quin is very knowledgeable, thoughtful and made the experience fun for the group (we were a group of 8, and our group was awesome and it was a delight to spend the day together). Quin expertly guided us through the cool streets of Kyoto and the major sites with ease. He was very meticulous about explaining the rituals at the shrines, which we appreciated very much. Highly recommend this tour with Quin as your guide.
Great guide with a lot of passion of everything to sightsee in Kyoto. You can ask him a lot of questions, he will be very honest about how tourism impacts the city, and he will give a lot of suggestions. The E-bikes were definitely worth it and the lunch was a great little spot. Perfect for a day of seeing as much as possible in the open-air museum of Kyoto.
There aren’t enough stars or enough superlatives to describe our amazing day with Momo! As my husband keeps saying-“It was off the charts!” Momo is so smart and knowledgeable and so friendly and kind. He was so easy to be with and made us feel so comfortable. He was so good at explaining everything we saw. As you can tell it was an extremely special day and an excellent way to see the highlights of Kyoto! Thank you Momo!!!
Fantastic way to see Kyoto, ride thru neighborhoods and see normal life, cycle to temples and other sites and truly experience the city on 2 wheels. Great pace throughout the day and some in our group used e bikes so definitely works for all riders. Juan was a wonderful guide. Safe and informative.
Sean was an amazing guide. Super knowledgeable about the sites we visited. He was also great about discussing Japanese culture in general. We learned so much! The tour had an excellent variety of sites and mixed in some nice biking at the Palace and along the river as well as some memorable dining experiences-crème brûlée donuts and automated sushi-tasty and fun. Just a great day. Highly recommend!
A great way to see lots of highlights in a relatively short period of time (unfortunately, we only had 1 full day in Kyoto). Our guide, Juan, was very pleasant and informative and the pacing steady without being rushed.
Amazing, loved it !! Our guide Jay was awesome.
It was een very great tour. Our guide Indra was a nice guy and did a very good job. A lot of information en nice facts. Seen a lot, a lovely way to explorer the city.
Great way to see some of the sites of Kyoto in the one day! Leisurely paced and informative guide in Momo.
Momo our tour guide was absolutely excellent. He was raised in the UK and currently lives in Japan so his English was excellent. Energetic and kind. is the absolute best way to see more of Kyoto. We have done bike trips in many countries and this is also one of the we have ever been on. I highly recommend. They do have electric bikes available, but still I would suggest you’re in good shape. Not super overweight with any heart or lung because you do bike miles, and miles even with an electric bike. You ride in between crowds of people and monuments in the street so have to be very confident on a bike. You don’t have to be a street racer. I’m just trying to give you a real heads up.
Did the bike tour around the entirely of kyoto managed to see majority of the city would recommend anyone going to kyoto to do ot by bike, our instructor Momo was the goat, all in all was a wonderful day out.
Great day seeing Kyoto with Kevin. I loved zooming around on bikes, usually on small streets. That way we got to see neighborhoods most tourists don't visit. The main sites were spectacular, though crowded due to peak cherry blossoming happening on that day,. So being on bikes, off the main ways tourists would travel was great. Kevin lives in Kyoto and had many personal accounts that were interesting. He altered the usual route to be sure we saw every blossom lined street anywhere near our route. Kevin knows a lot about the geiko and meiko culture, a fascinating part of Kyoto. He guided us to a small restaurant with a fabulous traditional lunch. Due to a snafoo getting the train from Osaka, Cycle Kyoto went out of their way to catch me up with the tour, not that such a favor is promised if you are late. I appreciated the personal service. I would highly recommend this 19 mile tour with a local on a bike! If you are not accustomed to biking that distance e-bikes are available but I opted for the regular bike. Screechy brakes, but otherwise the bike was just fine.
We joined Momo for the full day, he was an excellent tour guide; kind friendly and engaging. A wonderful day - highly recommended
We had a wonderful bike tour with Quinn as our guide! There were a few bonus unscheduled stops and we learned a lot! Quinn is so knowledgeable and really passionate about Japanese history. We got so much more out of visiting the shrines and temples. Cycling was pretty easy as the route is mostly flat. Highly recommend!
Great day with the 'Mighty Quinn'
Very fun. Jay, our guide, was very friendly, was taking care of of us. It was a small group so it was just perfect to visit Kyoto
Increible experience!! Very good tour! Very nice haging around with Jay! Very warm, nice person!
The full day tour of Kyoto with Paul was an absolute delight. We got to see so much of Kyoto, both the tourist landmarks and the authentic lesser known temples. We loved riding through the back streets, parks, along the river, enjoying the sakuras and different neighbourhoods. Above all, Paul was a wonderful guide - so kind, knowledgeable and easygoing, adapting the tour to our needs and rhythm. The whole tour was very kid friendly, and bicycles were light and of good quality. Great lunch experience at the conveyer sushi place. I warmly recommend this tour to families - we got to see the best of Kyoto in a fun and easygoing atmosphere.
We spent 11 days in Japan and the full day country side bike ride was the best part of our trip. Beautiful views, amazing tea, coffee, and lunch, historic spots, and no other tourists in sight. Shaune was an incredible tour guide. Details included a local Shinto shrine and Shaune explained the background and community, had a tea ceremony while overlooking tea fields, visited a buddah temple (Kasagidera), and the split rock from the Demon Slayer anime show. All while enjoying beautiful scenery in the rolling hills.
Quinn provided an outstanding experience from start to finish. His attention to detail, friendly communication, and genuine effort to ensure everything went smoothly made the visit truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere.
Had a great day with Karl and the other cyclists. Despite of the full day of rain (we were all geared up in ponchos) it was an amazing experience. We had lots of fun, saw all the highlights whilst at the same time Karl tailored the activities and length of the visit to the interest of our group
Our booking and cycling experience were excellent! This was a fabulous way to see Kyoto. We felt safe riding as took many side streets and canal paths. Our guide, Juan was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. We avoided a lot of the crowds and had great experiences at all the sites. Our son is 8 and used the tag along bike on the e-bike and it worked great.
This was a fabulous way to see many of the highlights of Kyoto, as well as experiencing some of the lesser known sides to the city. The bikes were great and our guide Julian was simply brilliant - great subject knowledge, and I loved hearing about every day life in Japan as well. He helped us get some great photo shots in some very busy places. We went back to the same lunch location later in our trip because it was so much fun. The cycling is 95% easy (just a couple of short inclines) and a mix of road and cycle lane/pavement, with the usual challenges of changing traffic lights, wayward dogs and errant pedestrians. Julian held it all together beautifully. I would 100% recommend.
The tour was extremely well organized, fun, and packed with incredible sights. Juan was very knowledgeable about Kyoto’s history, culture, and temples and he shared interesting stories and details at every stop that made the experience so much richer than visiting the sites on our own. He also kept a comfortable pace and made sure everyone felt safe and confident biking through the city. One of the best parts of the tour was how much we were able to see in one day. We visited Honganji Temple, Kitano Tenmangu, the beautiful Golden Pavilion, the Imperial Palace, Gion, Tofukuji Temple, and finished at the incredible Fushimi Inari Shrine. Traveling by bike gave us a unique perspective of Kyoto and allowed us to explore parts of the city we likely would never have found otherwise. Lunch was included and it was a great break during the ride. The food was delicious and it was the perfect opportunity to relax before continuing the adventure. Juan’s enthusiasm, deep knowledge of Kyoto, and great sense of humor made the whole experience engaging and memorable. If you are visiting Kyoto and want a fun and active way to see the city, I highly recommend Cycle Kyoto and especially Juan as your guide.
Julian was are guide for the Kyoto cycling tour. He was a wealth of knowledge about all the Shrines and Temples we visited throughout the day. He also gave us an in-depth view of the Kyoto culture and the surrounding areas. We also learned about the tea houses along the tour and gion district through the city. My son also wanted to eat somewhere different, and Julian was able to took us, so we could try different varieties of food to suit my son's style of food. We learned so much and saw so many areas being able to bike around. Just to mention the gear and bikes were in very good shape and maintained for safe traveling. This tour was great for us, because both my son and I are active people. This tour kept my son in gauged throughout the whole tour being able to burn off energy and learn the history at the same time. Julian thanks again for this awesome biking tour!
This bike tour in Kyoto was an absolute highlight of our holiday to Japan. Indra was our guide and we couldn’t have asked for a more knowledgeable, enthusiastic or engaging host. Indra was like a walking encyclopaedia. We saw and learnt more on one day, than any other tour we did throughout our holiday. Highly recommend this tour, with Indra as your guide.
We had an amazing day! The tour was so informative and fun. We covered so much ground and experiences. Our guide Indra was so kind and knowledgeable. I would recommend this to everyone. Our family loved it!
It surpassed our expectations and having a guide and an apprentice to ourselves, was very special. The mood was informative but relaxed and most interesting. Our guides immersed us in tradition and culture. We always do a cycle tour when visiting new cities, and this did not disappoint!
