We rented our kimonos at the tea house and everyone from the beginning to the end of the experience were lovely and extremely helpful. I highly recommend to do the tea ceremony and kimono at the same place.

Itinerary
At the start of your session, your host will welcome you with a brief introduction to the world of matcha. Tea ceremony lies at the heart of Japanese culture, and to enjoy this centuries old ritual will provide a deeper understanding of the history, architecture and tastes of Kyoto. Before performing an authentic tea ceremony, your personal instructor will explain a little about the steps involved in the ceremony, the utensils used and the importance of the rooms decoration and layout. Guests will enjoy a seasonal sweet with their tea, and there is plenty of time for asking questions and chatting with the host. The experience ends with each guest having the opportunity to make their own bowl of frothy matcha, mastering the basics of tea making. We want your time with us to be a rich and enjoyable one, and to that end we encourage guests to not only participate but actively ask any questions they might have about Japan and tea ceremony. All our instructors speak English fluently and hail from one of Kyoto's three main schools of tea ceremony. At Camellia authenticity and inclusivity are very important, and we strive to provide memories our guests will treasure.

Great experience of authentic ceremony.
We had a very nice experience. This is a nice way to learn about a part of Japanese culture. It was very relaxing and certainly provided a new appreciation for matcha.
Wonderful! Highly reccomend it! The staff is super frindly and welcoming. Wonderful experience. Must do in Kyoto!
This has been my favourite place to come to since I came to Japan for a month! Good points -served by people who are tea masters who live and breathe tea! -clean lovely waiting room with free water wifi and chargers for the on the go traveller -treated with respect and kindness -English is word for word perfect with clear news reader accent (take it from an Englishman) -knowledge is second to none and answer all questions -a must see experience for any Englishman or tea lover and actually a really special experience Ok bad points -my partner wouldn't let me go to the kettle museum the lovely ladies told me about afterwards (I love tea) No other bad points the place is perfect the art of tea is a dying practice go and see this experience while you can!
Nice tea ceremony. Very good explanation of the process and history Welcoming and friendly staff. Room was small and plain. A nice garden view would have made it extra special.
Very well organized and explained. Making our own matcha was an interesting experience. Learnt a lot. The little sweet was really very lovely ! Thank you. Kalpana and Joseph Robinson. UK.
The instructor was very informative and graceful in her performance of the tea ceremony. It was a very peaceful and serene learning experience of Japanese culture.
The people were so friendly. The room was clean and well organized, and Airconditioning that people were very accommodating for us when we missed our train they let us go into the next session, even though it was full. They were very nice.
Yes very nice experience. Get there early and walk around the area it’s lovely.
It is false advertising based your picture since it is not sit down traditional tea it is very boring not worth of 35$ per person
Very informative about the social importance of matcha tea! :)
We had such a wonderful experience! Our hosts were so lovely and treated us to an authentic tea ceremony. The highlight for us was making our own matcha and learning all about the beauty and depth of the tea ceremony. I would highly recommend this to all who travel to Kyoto!
Authentic setting to experience a traditional tea ceremony. Took about 45 minutes total, and the actual ceremony took about 10 minutes. Some history of tea and the ceremony, then watch the instructor perform the ceremony, and then you get to make tea (not doing all of the aspects of the ceremony, just whisking the matcha), then time for questions. Interesting and fun.
My mom & I had a wonderful tea experience! We learned how to prepare tea & tea etiquette. The aroma & flavor were both amazing. I truly enjoyed every moment. Everyone who worked there was incredibly kind and welcoming. they were so friendly & nice. They made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
Beautiful ceremonial matcha tea learning experience! Our guide was informative and kind in showing us the traditional ceremony and teaching us to make our own matcha tea.
It was such a nice experience! My family and I loved the demonstration of a tea ceremony, it was very informative. It was also really cool to have a go at making matcha how it is made at ceremonies! Definitely recommending this experience to anyone.
Really enjoyed learning about traditional tea ceremony. Also got to make our own Matcha. Would definitely recommend.
This was an amazing experience! Everyone was so kind and explained all the steps and procedures of kintsugi in a beautiful way. Getting to take home our very own gold leaf bowl was the cherry on top of the already fun experience. Thanks Momoson!
Had a great time at this experience, the tea master was very knowledgeable and keenly provided deep and thoughtful answers to all the questions from our group. The kimono rental was also very convenient and we got some great pictures out of it
My daughter and I had an amazing experience gaining a clearer understanding of the beauty of a Japanese traditional tea ceremony. She was so happy that she now will be able to make her own traditional cup of matcha…the goal of her visit.😋
Great experience, definitely helpful and informative to anyone willing to learn more about this great ancient and noble tradition.
Beautiful experience of tea ceremony in Kyoto. The tea house is tucked away in a little alley and was so peaceful compared to the crazy streets of Kyoto. The lady who demonstrated the tea ceremony was lovely and welcoming and very good at explaining. We enjoyed making our own matcha with her. Great experience. Highly recommended!
Very disappointed! Despite requesting a geisha host. We were fooled. The presentation was boorish for the entire group of 8.
Very peaceful & well needed break from busy streets outside. Hostess spoke well & guided the ceremony beautifully.
Enjoyable experience learning about the history of the Japanese tea ceremony and learning to make macha tea.
Lots of fun! Had a great time wearing traditional Kimono and learning about the tea ceremony and history. Would def recommend
What a wonderful and heartwarming experience. Thank you for the same. We had a great time. Thank you!
I would highly recommend participating in this tea ceremony if traveling to Kyoto. They offer kimono rentals which I suggest as well. (FYI you will see hoards of tourists wearing kimonos in the Gion district so you won't be out of place.) The care and delicacy that is taken to ensure your kimono and hair fit perfectly and look beautiful is unmatched! Once dressed, you are given a bit of time to walk around and take pictures in the historic area. As for the tea ceremony, it's a very educational and beautiful experience. You will learn a bit about the history and cultural importance of the tea ceremony before watching the steps involved. Of course, you will get to participate and drink the tea as well, which was better tasting than any other matcha I'd tried in Japan. Of note, this is a quiet almost meditative experience. Thankfully my two young sons were on their absolute best behavior, but this might not be suitable for children who have a hard time sitting still or staying quiet.
We had a wonderful experience at the tea house with Keiko! She was informative and we enjoyed making the matcha tea.
Was a very neat experience. The woman who completed our tea ceremony was very informative and gave a great presentation.
The tea ceremony was delightful. The young lady explained what she was using and how she was using it. Maybe I missed it a little, but I wasn’t quite sure why certain things were done a certain way I would’ve liked a little bit more history. We did Matcha tea. It would’ve been nice if we could’ve purchased some Matcha tea before we left otherwise it was delightful.
We had a great experience in their brand new tea house- our tea master was experienced, knowledgeable, & warm. Highly recommend!
It was interesting to say the least: the staff is very helpful and they will answer all your questions about Ceremony Tea and will give you a lot of details about this peculiar Japanese tradition. Kimonos are splendid, and give another level to the whole experience. This Ceremony Tea should be included into your to-do list when passing through Kyoto.
From our first step into the door, all the ladies were very inviting and kind. The process of the tea ceremony was educational but heart felt. The tea master made the experience even more of a special experience. We very much enjoyed this experience and will treasure it forever.
Such a pleasant and down to earth experience with such professional tea hosts. Very good English! Was truly an unforgettable experience.
Definitely do kimono rental makes the ceremony more authentic loved every minute of it!!! So informative and mesmerizing
Very nice traditional experience with friendly staff who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable
Beautiful ceremony. Delicious matcha. Our teacher was amazing and inspired us to get matcha tools and do it at home! She was patient, knowledgeable and really helpful.
A lovely experience with a knowledgeable and kind host. I highly recommend this as someone who usually doesn't like Matcha, making your own as part of a ceremony really feels special.
We had an intimate and memorable tea ceremony where we learnt the importance of this spiritual and cultural Japanese ritual. I enjoyed it so much I bought a tea set for me to enjoy tea at home.
A relaxed and interesting insight into the tea ceremony. Our host was friendly and knowledgeable. This gave us a real insight into the tea ceremony as well as understanding where high quality matcha came from. Well worth an hour of your time
Really enjoyed the tea ceremony, especially my first time being to Japan and wanting to learn more about the culture. Our instructor was so kind and gracious with teaching us how to make our own matcha, and the experience was heightened by choosing to rent the kimonos for the experience as well! After all the shopping in Tokyo, this was a much needed serene cultural experience and I would recommend any first time travelers to absolutely include this in their trip!
It was a privilege to experience the ceremony. Everything was so precise. The explanations helped with understanding the training & procedure for tea making.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared all the details of tea ceremony with the group. Really enjoyed watching her precise movements in meditative silence.
Such a beautiful and relaxing experience. We all loved this and came away feeling so very calm. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto.
The guide was amazing. Very easy going. Good English. Good explanation of the ceremony. We learned and practiced.
Lovely experience! Highly recommend to learn about matcha tea and how tea ceremonies historically were performed.
We have been very well welcomed and have sent a great time. Yugi taught us how to prepare a matcha tea and helped us to prepare our own. It has been a nice and délicate moment. Very peaceful. I would do it again without any hesitation.
