ROKU Kyoto. Beautiful property and great service. It has 160 rooms but only had about 15 rooms being used when we checked in last week weekday so it feld incredibly private and serene. As a diamond they upgraded us my requested onsen garden room before arrival. Upon arrival they asked if we wanted a suite but we opted to have in room onsen despite a smaller room. The room itself is very nice and spacious enough. I look forward to staying again if my goal is a relaxing secluded trip. One very weird thing is the free pool rental chairs. Its super cheap regular plastic chairs in the back far away from pool. We were the only in the whole pool area! They definitely should have just given us the better pool loungers right by the pool with built in umbrella. Lack of training. The japanese do love their rules man!

This is by far the most comfortable hotel we’ve ever stayed in. The overall atmosphere is incredibly elegant and peaceful, and the central courtyard pond is gorgeous—perfect for photos and videos. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable. The toilet and shower are completely separate, which allowed us both to get ready at the same time without getting in each other's way. The bidet toilet seat opens automatically and doesn't make any high-pitched beeping sounds—the attention to detail is truly impressive. All the staff members were so gentle, warm, and patient. The hotel also features a large outdoor heated pool—supposedly filled with spring water. If it’s not too crowded, you can comfortably swim laps, or simply relax on the lounge chairs by the pool if you prefer not to get wet. Chairs with umbrellas require an extra fee, but free seating is also available. Since the hotel is located in the suburbs of Kyoto, getting around is a bit inconvenient; you'll need to take a taxi or Uber, though Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion) is about a 20-minute walk away. Overall, we were thoroughly satisfied with our stay, and our only regret is that we couldn't stay a few days longer!
If you are looking for a serene, luxurious retreat away from the bustling tourist corridors of Kyoto, look no further than ROKU Kyoto. The property itself is stunningly beautiful, tucked against the mountains with a peaceful atmosphere and its own gorgeous garden trails. We stayed here as part of a major family summer trip to celebrate a birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make it unforgettable. They were incredibly attentive, welcoming, and seamless with our family logistics. The absolute highlight of our stay was being upgraded to an Onsen Garden Room. Having a private natural hot spring bath right in our room, enclosed in a beautiful stone sunroom overlooking our own private garden, was an absolute game-changer—especially traveling with a toddler. It allowed us to relax in the thermal waters during nap times and evenings without ever having to leave the room. The location is perfect for those who want tranquility but still value convenience; the property sits within the Shozan Resort footprint, meaning top-tier dining options (like the fantastic chicken and yakitori at Wakadori) are just a short walk away. From the pristine rooms to the exceptional hospitality, ROKU Kyoto delivered a flawless experience. We cannot wait to return.
ROKU KYOTO completely exceeded my expectations. Visiting during the low season was a stroke of luck, giving the entire stay a highly exclusive, private feel. The hospitality is exceptional, and the staff is incredibly accommodating. Diamond Recognition: The team is wonderfully attentive to Diamond members. To compensate for the lack of an executive lounge, they allow Diamond guests to enjoy certain items from the mini-bar. Having access to the local Kyoto beer and the long potato chips right in the room was a brilliant alternative that I really appreciated. Room & Atmosphere: The accommodations define modern, relaxing luxury, with incredibly high-quality finishes. The sensory details are amazing—the signature natural cedar scent and the pleasant fragrances wafting through the hallways instantly put you at ease from the moment you step out of your room. Location & Activities: The property is perfectly situated. After breakfast, we took advantage of the beautiful weather with a 10 to 15-minute walk to the Golden Temple. Walking was a great way to digest our meal, and going around 9 AM meant we beat the crowds and enjoyed a very quiet, peaceful visit. Dining Updates: Note that as of April 1st, a new Executive Chef is at the helm. The Chef’s Table has been retired, but the slightly updated breakfast and dinner menus beautifully reflect the new culinary direction and maintain the property's high standards. A five-star stay in every regard!
I wasn't initially aware that this property was part of the Hilton portfolio, but it certainly stands out as a unique and serene retreat. The approach to the hotel sets the tone perfectly: navigating through quiet, narrow alleyways and local residences near the mountains provides a refreshing contrast to the typical arrival experience of a bustling urban hotel. Having opened during the pandemic, the facilities remain immaculate. One of the most striking first impressions is the scent; the corridors are infused with a natural hinoki (Japanese cypress) fragrance from @aroma, which I personally appreciate for its immediate grounding effect. The rooms themselves offer beautiful, restorative views of the surrounding mountains. The bathroom layout is thoughtfully designed—while it doesn’t have a direct outdoor view, an internal window connects it to the bedroom, preventing the space from feeling enclosed. The shower's water pressure is also excellent. The atmosphere throughout the property is exceptionally quiet, and the staff are universally gracious and attentive. A visual highlight is the water basin's lighting at night, which feels genuinely artistic and sets a beautiful mood. Additionally, the striking wooden pillar at the entrance, with a new shoot growing from it, evokes a sense of profound vitality and mystique. The thermal pool, open until 9 PM, is a wonderful amenity that anchors the sense of deep rest you feel here. The dining experience is equally impressive; breakfast is flawless. I highly recommend the duck congee—it was remarkably fresh and prepared perfectly, without any of the gamey odor one might expect. Though situated slightly away from the center of Kyoto, the tranquility and the sheer quality of the experience offer exceptional value for the price. It is a place where one can truly pause, breathe, and appreciate the surroundings.
