A street of ryokans, each with their own private bath, in central Kyoto? It’s as good as it sounds! Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki Street was special from the very start. Staff took us to the lounge (with complimentary drinks and snacks) to walk us through our stay and facilities. The effort they make to sure we understood everything (and in such a kind manner!) was really appreciated. The ryokan itself was beautiful and spacious. It was an elegant mix between luxury and hints of domestic modesty. We had the kaiseki dinner, ordered a kimono fitting experience and finished it all up with a chazuke breakfast. After checking out, we received a really kind handwritten note and a gift, which was unexpected and added to the magnificence of the experience. Thank you so much!

This is the best hotel I have been to. The staff are professional, kind and amazing. The rooms are very nice and clean. The restaurant serves incredible food and was able to provide gluten free accommodations (be sure to provide them a notice in advance). The restaurant staff were also amazing, especially Rei-San who made our dinner experience wonderful. Thank you to staff for your hospitality. We hope to stay here again in the future.
We had a very pleasant and cozy stay. The staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The room was beautifully designed and cozy, and the onsen was definitely the highlight of our stay. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind. Both the breakfast and the meat sushi course were absolutely delicious and are highly recommended. We truly enjoyed our stay and would be happy to come back
In sum, overrated, disappointed and will not return. We stayed at room 23-7 from 4/24-27 At this price point, every detail stands out. Pros: 1. Staffs overall are friendly, especially the lady shared that she is from outside of Kyoto and moved there with her husband, thank you so much for the chat that day. Also the lady helped us with our AC, very appreciated. 2. Has a nice bathroom and bathtub. 3. Location overall is OK, if you like the center vibe of the city this place is not for you. Cons: We have stayed at similar prices hotel at Arashiyama, and it’s night and day different. 1. There’s no sign or brought up to us that we are not allowed to bring tiny little freaking snacks from the lounge area back to the room. This lady was helping checking in other guests and instead of saying, ‘sorry, it’s not allowed to bring the snack back to the room’, she used her body to block me from taking them back to the room, which we gave our stuffs to her willingly. Why make such a fuss over such tiny snacks? In similar prices hotels around the world we’d have asked you to bring snacks and drinks to us. Do not get me wrong, they do bring snacks to you, the night time sandwich which is just OK. 2. Rooms might seem clean, but look closely on the carpet, they never vacuumed around the bed during our 3 night stays. I still could find my hair that I intentionally dropped on the floor. Hairdryer filter is never cleaned, full of dust. 3. AC works terribly, it never stays on the temperature properly and turns on and off very frequently. 4. Breakfasts were below average, my husband had the western style, to his words it looks like putting a lot of premade stuffs together. As well as my Japanese style breakfast as well. Displays well, but not much effort goes in. Compared to the hotel - Muni at Arashiyama, they cooked the whole breakfast. 5. This room is directly across the kitchen, the sound of the fan is VERY DISTURBING even at midnight. 6. The rooms are so close together, you could hear the neighbors going up and down the stairs. Thank god there were no kids around us, otherwise you’d hear everything. 7. They asked us to give them our room key in order to clean our room, very firmly. Not once we were ever asked to give any hotel staffs our room key in other international hotels, very audacious to restrict hotel guests’ access to their own room. You can do so much better with this high end price. Very disappointed, will not visit again. One suggestion to the hotel, do some traveling around your own cities, stay in similar priced hotels to improve.
We stayed here for our honeymoon and were blown away by the aesthetic as well as the customer service of this hotel. Upon check-in, they bring you up to the lounge where they serve you a welcome drink and snack while going over the check in procedures. When completed, we left the lobby and were greeted with a row of hotel "rooms" that were actually renovated townhomes. The rooms themselves were very spacious, clean, and immaculate. The semi-outdoor bath was breathtaking and felt extremely nice to soak in after a long day of walking. And the seasonal ochazuke breakfast was delicious! All in all, this was the perfect romantic ryokan for a honeymoon and we definitely plan to stay again in the future.
