Visitors here not only get to admire the stunning scenery but also experience the warmth and hospitality of the local people; the staff are consistently friendly and attentive, while the cuisine is as refined as the people and the local culture itself. I will always cherish memories of this place; that sense of refinement truly reflects the positive spirit and immense effort invested here. I hope this destination continues to flourish in the future.

We stayed in this hotel for the first time in Japan. The environment is moderate, the design is unique, and the service is super good. Although there will be some language barriers, they will help you solve it. I recommend Japanese breakfast. Here, there are three Japanese breakfasts for three days, and you can experience different flavours. Thank you very much to the staff. This trip made me feel extremely happy because of the comfort of the hotel.
The Gallery Nijo Castle Kyoto truly feels like a luxury hideaway in the city 🌿 From the moment I arrived, everything felt calm, refined, and intentionally designed. The interior has a sophisticated, modern style with subtle Japanese touches, and the space feels exclusive without being intimidating. It’s the kind of hotel where you immediately notice the quality in the materials, lighting, and overall atmosphere. The guest areas and rooms feel exceptionally well cared for, and there’s a strong sense of cleanliness and attention to detail throughout. The room felt quiet and private, making it easy to fully relax. Even though the hotel is close to Nijo Castle, the surroundings remain peaceful, which adds to the feeling of escaping the busy parts of Kyoto. Service was polished and professional, but still warm. Staff interactions felt smooth and considerate, without being overly formal. The dining experience also stood out — the food was thoughtfully prepared and felt elevated, matching the hotel’s upscale tone 🍽️✨ Overall, The Gallery Nijo Castle Kyoto delivers a high-end experience that feels elegant, calm, and carefully curated. It’s an ideal choice if you’re looking for a luxurious stay that prioritizes comfort, cleanliness, and a quiet sense of refinement 💖
Review for restaurant. I did not stay at the hotel. Restaurant is located just off the lobby with a view of their interior garden with a lit maple tree and pond. Hospitality and service were matched only by my experience at 3 star Michelin restaurants. World class! (Worth noting that I was the only customer in the restaurant.) Each course or bite was a combination of multiple interesting flavors and ingredients, which were always well balanced to delicious effect. I think this was displayed best for the beets and truffle soup. I enjoyed all 5 of the wine accompaniments, and the 2018 Napa Cab actually distracted me from the Saga wagyu! The amount of food and pacing were perfect for me, but I sometimes wished for a tiny bit more of some of the sauces.
Lovely hotel, very pleased with my stay here! It’s just in front of the castle and you have the subway nearby if you want to visit other popular places (I walked most of the time to better explore the city, and since the sidewalks are very large and flat, you can easily walk even though the city it very big). I especially enjoyed the kindness and politeness of the staff, both at the reception and at the restaurant. Also, the hotel has only 25 rooms, I believe, so it’s not super crowded, and the staff recognises you right away. My room was very modern and comfortable, and it was always very clean. I loved the bathtub and the the toilet was also super modern (it opened automatically, had the heated seating, etc). The big windows were also beautiful and the commands to operate the shades worked perfectly. The only thing is since it’s facing the castle/street, you can hear some noises from the outside, so maybe bring some earplugs (I always use them for sleeping because any noise bothers me, so I might be too sensitive, but bring them nonetheless). At breakfast, you have to tell them in advance at what time you’ll be eating so that they can have the table ready (I usually gave a time interval like between 8:00-8:30), and you have three menu options (well being, which I chose, Japanese and singular pancake). The Well Being was perfect. I also ordered in-room dining and it was great, as they had healthy options like grilled chicken, soup and an excellent fruit salad (no easy to find fresh fruit in restaurants, so I was craving for some and was happy to find they had the option). There’s no gym at the hotel, the property is not too big, but you’ll do plenty of exercise visiting everything Kyoto has to offer 😊 You can do some stretching in your room as it is big enough. I would definitely come back and recommend this hotel 👍👍👍
